Lovely little Italian restaurant , friendly staff , good atmosphere and always packed whenever we come here great place to dine .

Had a wonderful 30th birthday meal here, the staff were so accomodating, food was delicious and they catered for 2 gluten and dairy free members perfectly, thanks Gianis

Was in and out within half an hour had a garlic pizza bread which was nice and my over priced half glass off beer but the main was not pleasant tasted like a microwave meal the first time I have not finished a meal in a restaurant, did not stay for dessert but 3 stars because the staff was nice and friendly

Rang to book a table for 6 people at 6pm and told they would need the table back for 7.30pm as they were busy. We agreed to arrive at 5.45 to give us more time although we were somewhat perplexed that on a wet February evening the restaurant could be so busy. Unfriendly greeting by male member of staff who was in a hurry to take our order even though we asked for a little more time and also that there was only one other table of two in the restaurant. The food was mediocre to say the least my pizza was limp and tasteless. In the whole time we were there most tables lay empty and it seemed to us that the male members of staff just wanted us to leave. The female staff member was the only saving grace as she was smiley and seemed interested in our needs. They have a rule that only one card payment can be taken for each table. Not something I have encountered before and most inconvenient for our group as not everyone carries cash these days. In summary I would say unless you like bland insipid food and being served by rude staff go elsewhere.

Not the best meal by a long way. I choose from the "specials menu" beef cannelloni, If that was special, I'm glad I didn't choose from the ordinary menu. Pasta was actually lasagne sheets wrapped around cheap plastic beef sausage, sauce almost non existent. Quite frankly it was over priced for the effort it took to make such a meal. The final straw was when a group of 6 friends came to pay. Normally we can all pay separately by card, Not here apparently, they are not able to work out if everyone has paid!!! so we had to pay by cash. Who carries cash nowadays??

This place was so unwelcoming . You can tell who they like to chat to and who to ignore .I’m guessing the locals were the ones who got the attention to get repeat custom . Never felt so unwelcome ever . In and out in a hour plates thrown down during service , loud waiters and miserable faces . This spoilt the whole night . Food wasn’t like we get in the city very fast food style not authentic ,

We had a lovely time at Gianni's. From the moment we walked in and the owner realised we are motorbike fans we were treated with wonderful stories of his time working with the greats like Rossi, Simoncelli, Sykes and co. He shared photos of them with us and entertained us throughout. The general ambiance of the restaurant was great - it wasn't packed but then nowhere was on a cold, wet night in Penrith! The food was lovely and the service was great. We have no complaints!

Great fresh pizzas loads of options for food quick service and great staff highly recommend

took a chance on this restaurant and I am so glad we did, we have never been to Penrith before but Gianni's is worth the trip alone, Fantastico! we hadn't booked beforehand so were relieved we were able to get a table. Starters, pizza , pasta , wine and soft drink (between 2 of us) for less than £60, a bargain. we so enjoyed our whole experience, food and service highly recommended xxx👌

Lovely food and staff, it was not my first time here and this time i unfortunatelly didnt make good choice food wise, so next time i will stick with pizza again, with that you cant ho wrong :)

I read a few negative reviews about giannis before booking but I do love to try Italian. This one really stood out when we spoke to locals in the town. We visited as a family of 3. (We have a 2 year old.) Food... We had cheesy garlic bread (the best one I have had to date!) steak peppercorn sauce, chips, spag bol and chocolate fugde cake with ice cream. Every dish was delicious. Could not fault the food. The owner was very polite and friendly. The waitress and waitors was very helpful, polite and efficient. Very well run. Whilest there the phone did not stop ringing. Very busy /popular restaurant. Very happy we tried and we will be back.

Got us in new years eve at the last moment and whilst we were put upstairs (which was quiet)the staff could not been more helpful or more accommodating. Defo recommend

Pizza and pasta they boxed it off! Great atmosphere and rapid service. Lovely family run restaurant in the heart of Penrith. Modern interior which is simple and clean with a decent array of wine and beer. Family friendly and very welcoming.

Beautifully simple good food, friendly, efficient service, genuine Italian manager, unpretentious decor, great experience. Would definitely come here again. Very good value for money.

WOW HOW EXPENSIVE IS THE LAGER £7.95 AND TASTE DISGUSTING. yes I did return it and had it removed off the bill. Garlic bread and cheese fantastic but charging London price in a great little town like penrith for the lager no wonder restaurant wasn't that busy on a Friday before Christmas.

Little gem in the middle of Penrith

The service was awful we were passing through and felt invisible , paying huge attention to the locals , obviously keeping them happy so they return . Food was bland and Luke warm , pizza was like shop bought and the pasta very small portions . The worst thing was the atmosphere. If your not local don’t bother . We do not recommend this place

We love Gianni’s in Penrith. Great ambiance, excellent food and fantastic, friendly service from all the staff. We can recommend the garlic pizza for starters, penne with smoked salmon & chicken Gianni, and the tiramisu and tartufo for puds 😋 Thanks for making us so welcome each time we visit. Paul & Dawn xx

Recently returned from a trip to the Amalfi so to be completely honest our hopes weren't too high! however this restaurant is an absolute hidden treasure and exceeded all expectations. Beautiful authentic Italian food, possibly the best cannelloni I have tasted. We are not local so glad to have stumbled across such a beautiful, family run Italian restaurant in the UK. If we ever come back to Penrith, we will certainly remember this spot. Thank you 🤍

The service was very good, staff helpful and friendly. I ordered a lasagne. It arrived in a bowl on a plate and the bowl spun round and round while trying to eat it. There was copious amount of runny sauce and it was laced with stringy cheese. The combination of these three made for an unpleasant feed. It tastes fine but I can't say it was good sorry. First time I've been and I'll not be rushing back.

Last visited here in June 2017 when I wrote a review. Revisit and had a great meal again. For my birthday. Great service, good food and for a Thursday in November nice busy vibe.

We ended up at Gianni's after a disastrous visit to another restaurant and we're glad we did! Excellent food, lively atmosphere, friendly staff and not too expensive.

The waiting staff were lovely except for the older gentleman who was quite abrupt and not particularly welcoming. However, he was very chatty with what appeared to be regulars. Wouldn’t recommend the lasagne which was heavy on sauce and lacking in meat. Won’t be rushing back.

After climbing outdoor stairs up to the restaurant, we were welcomed into a warm, inviting environment where our booked table was waiting for us. Service was excellent throughout our visit, the food exceeded expectations and staff were friendly as well as efficient. The restaurant is good value for money. This is a little gem buried in the heart of Penrith.

Our new favourite place to eat at. The food was absolutely simple but amazing. The staff were very charming and welcoming. Grazie!

Pizza was on the greasy side, although that's to some peoples taste. It was difficult to get the attention of waiting staff even though there were a number of them standing around, facing away from the tables and talking amongst themselves.

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! Visited here a couple of weeks ago and have returned to review as we were so unimpressed! Owner and staff were extremely rude. Rushed into ordering. Had only sat down a few minutes before being told "you better order we are going to run out". Prawns were tiny and definitely frozen. Food was fairly tasteless, staff rude and too expensive for the quality. It was someone's birthday so we asked if they could put a candle in one of their chocolate slices. Stated I was happy to pay extra for this. Came out with a candle in a scoop of ice cream...I was genuinely embarrassed. Unsure how they have 4.4 stars as its the worst Italian I've ever had! Definitely making their money on tourists who will visit once and never again. Regret paying anything and not refusing to pay for such a rubbish experience!

Absolutely no idea if the people of Penrith are brain dead or these reviews are fake, this is possibly the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant, ordered a pizza and they sent it out with the toppings randomly in 4 quarters all separated, when I asked if it could be mixed they sent it back like this (see photo below), absolute insanity! My partners meal was bland and tasted similar to a micro meal and my starter of bruschetta was literally bread and chopped tomatoes, nothing more. Thankfully they took the pizza of my bill. Absolute shame as the building is really beautiful but is unfortunately occupied by clowns.

Travelling from Scotland to penrith and was looking forward to visiting this restaurant. Called in at 7pm as 2 couples on their way out,walked in asked for a table for one and I knew straight away that he wasn't going to give me a table. Guy says their full and come back after that,clearly they weren't full as 4 people had just left. Such a pity as I visit Penrith on a weekly basis for business but I'll never give any of it to this restaurant. Pity as I'm sure they would be looking for customers in a long winter.

Had a gorgeous meal at Giannis last night. Cute restaurant, lovely staff and beautiful food. We shared a cheese garlic bread (best I’ve had) 3 mains, 3 puds with soft drinks about £80. Nice atmosphere as it was pretty busy by 6pm on a Tuesday night so I’d recommend booking xx

Extremely friendly and excellent service with delicious food. Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant. We hadn't booked but they found a table for us and despite it being full and very busy we didn't have to wait long for our food. We had two different pizzas and a pasta dish and all were tasty and hot. Staff checked regularly that all was well, would definitely return

We are local and although we had heard bad things about Giannis recently thought we would give it a go. Big mistake! The older staff were rude and inattentive and only paid attention to people they clearly knew which made us feel awkward being in the middle of it all. The food was so bland and average - not even freshly made pizza bases. Drinks massively overpriced. So disappointed as we really wanted it to be good and to be somewhere we could go regularly. The only positive were the young waiters who were all lovely and trying their best. We won’t be going back.

Love the food and atmosphere here. We've been twice and it was great. The only thing to note is that it is tucked away and access might be tricky for less able people.

Avoid this place as the quality of food is poor, they’re too busy walking around, speaking in Italian to even ask you if your food is okay.

I had lasagne , there was no pasta in it , it was in a metal dish just full of sauce , you got no salad no chips or garlic bread with , it was the worst lasagne I have ever tasted , it tasted like a microwave meal at best , my partner had pizza which came out the size of a side plate and wasn’t even sliced , the staff walked around made us feel uncomfortable. Would never ever go there again

Have been here a few times over the years and the staff are always friendly, attentive and efficient. The food is by far the best Italian food you'll get for miles around. Very child friendly also, my daughter enjoyed her meal this evening.

Lovely , friendly Italian restaurant right in the center of Penrith although a little different to get to if you have mobility issues as I do as it’s has steps to climb to get into it but it’s worth the climb if you can make it. Typical busy Italian restaurant with a good menu which caters for everyone, we has bruschetta for starters which was excellent although a very large portion, with four pieces but I’m not complaining. I had Vongole pasta for main which had plenty of clams in and the garlic sauce with a touch of tomato was very nice, my wife had a pizza which was good but too much for her after the large starter. House wine was good quality and very reasonably price as were our other drinks. Not fine dining but great for family or couple for a good meal at a reasonable price

Situated in the centre of penrith, nice and clean but the food is overrated over priced and very average with the portions being on the small size , drinks, are expensive as well, only access is up stairs.

What a fabulous restaurant excellent quality food, wine & service. We was given a warm welcome, excellent service during our visit. We loved our food it was absolutely delicious. Excellent range of quality wines & other drinks. Its one of the best Italian restaurants we've had the pleasure of visiting.

Difficult to find as tucked away. Owner was extremely rude and arrogant to us, to the point where we considered eating elsewhere rather than wait for a table. Food however was excellent. Atmosphere was not great, as owner was rude to his own staff in front of customers. Reasonably priced and would recommend based on standard of food alone if you are happy to ignore the owners attitude.

Very rushed, basic food, overpriced for food quality, lovely wee venue but it is not a place to relax!! Disappointing experience all round. Sarcasm has no place when asking about the food (a starter at £9) and a senior waiter 🙄 RUSH RUSH RUSH!! We won’t be back and we are locals.

Not entirely sure how I offended the main person in charge but we unfortunately got noticeably colder service than everyone else there! It was a lovely little location though, in a secluded courtyard and there were lots of different pizza choices, though the non pizza items were not the best value for money.

Food was absolutely gorgeous & the service was really good.

1 out of 5, the food was more ready meal quality from a supermarket rather than a restaurant. My plate was just throw in front of me and never returned to ask how my meal was. There was more attention to online or telephone orders or large groups definitely money driven with paying more attention to larger groups. The beer was OK but it was bottled. I won't be visiting again as the food as so bland I had to season whilst I ate. Basic cooking at its worst unfortunately

This Italian restaurant is truly authentic. We had an absolutely delightful experience, with every dish we ordered being incredibly delicious. Even the coffee at the end was simply fantastic! Luca, the owner, along with his team, were extremely friendly and attentive throughout our visit. I highly recommend this place!

I haven't been to Giannis because of Covid and force of circumstances for 3/4 years. I live in Leicester. Booking was easy and polite. Ambience was warm, clean and relaxed. Menu was extensive. My wife and I ordered, me a Chicken Gianni (REALLY tasty!) my wife had salmon pasta which she really enjoyed. The Tiramassu for desert was a delight. Service was excellent! We had a really great meal, beautifully presented and very tasty! Very highly recommended!

Went Saturday night with friends. The steaks were all great as was the king prawn dish however the pizzas were under cooked and doughy. The veg and potatoes served with the steaks were very underwhelming. We will try again.

Food was beyond dreadful. Ordered the lasagne and it came out looking like lasagne soup. It was also ready within 4 minutes of ordering - definitely microwaved. Had that microwave film over it. Drinks were also poured out of a 2 litre bottle of cola. Lukewarm drinks. Understand how tough it has been for restaurants but the answer is not to make dreadful food and skimp on the drinks. Avoid!

Birthday lunch here. Beautiful hidden gem tucked away., just off main drag in Penrith We hadn't booked, but were greeted at door by friendly staff It wasn't too busy and we were shown to a table straight away. Menu was typically Italian, and the restaurant reflected this too, with family pictures adorning the walls. We loved this touch - could have been in Italy Lovely atmosphere and we were attended to immediately with the drinks menu. We had the pizza which arrived fresh, well cooked and with plenty of topping. Base was light and crisp and tasted lovely We didnt sample the desert menu as we were both too full ! I had the Pinot Grigio, and my husband had Peroni. Fab Nastru Azzura coffee to finish. Would thoroughly reccomend Giannis Will be back in Dec 😘
