A small shop serving predominately ice-cream treats plus the sort of fudge, sweets and candies that your grandmother bought for you when you were small. The ice-cream treats are ice-cream based deserts with all manner of toppings and flavours (a normal scoop on a cone is also available!). Downside is that there's nowhere to sit inside; there's a bench outside (though you may - as we were - be attacked by midges) and you're next to a busy main road.

Have enjoyed the delicious ice creams here for years. The Orkney named inventions were great. A trip to Orkney needs a visit here. Gerri has adapted to the current situation by just doing take away. My husband had a double cone and some of the wonderful selection of sweets. I had a take away - a wonderful chocolate orange sundae. Have tried other ice cream parlours but this is the best.

Okay so let’s start with the positive: it’s an ice cream shop with some fabulous concoctions so it’s not just cones or tubs. They use Orkney Ice Cream (it’s good) to also provide knickerbocker glory type dishes. These are very good and very popular. There is also a monster ice cream challenge which is weirdly priced...3 scoop dishes are around £3.10 to £3.50 (excluding knickerbocker glory types) so roughly £1 per scoop - the 7 scoop monster challenge is in a huge cone and is £20....huh??They also stock a wide variety of traditional sweets which you buy by weight. Oh and 10p mixture bags ready made. Now for Gerri! Wow she has little or no interest in giving her customers a positive experience. We went in twice over 3 days thinking maybe day one was just a bad day. Hell no! Day two was worse. I asked how she was, got little more than a grunt and what do you want. We sat in and observed her being short with customers and she comes across as generally grumpy. There were some exceptions eg if she knows the customer or a momentary lapse in her attitude. Then there is the ‘cannot be bothered anymore’ serving. On both visits she starts to take your order then just walks off part way through and mumbles to the assistant to take the order while she makes the dessert. Better if she either took the whole order, did not take any of the orders or explained to the customer that she will start to make the order and her assistant will complete taking the order. Just rude!!In summary, go for the ice cream and be ready for less than pleasant interaction and it will be just grand!ps I should add that the young assistant who works there has a face is not that welcoming - don’t let that put you off as she is really pleasant and helpful...I suspect the face is the fear of working for Gerri!!!

Every time I go into Jerry's its very busy. Came here because we had an hour to kill before our Maeshowe reservation and didn't have a car. A good variety of flavors of ice cream, mid-20th century music, and tea served "properly," as my mother put it, with an additional pot of hot water for dilution. The vibe seemed to be a 1950s American soda shop. Overall enjoyable experience.

The Ice Cream gets a 5* but the attitude and manner of the lady serving ruined the visit. Had been on previous trips and always enjoyed. Arrived from the adjacent Maeshowe centre and purchased almost £30 of ice cream - from arrival to finishing felt unwanted and unwelcome. Purchasing ice cream appeared a major inconvenience. Hello Gerri,As one of your best customers. I have been going to Gerri's Ice Cream Parlour, for many years several times per week, each week she opens from April to last day in September. Great Service Great Ice Cream. We always look forward to Gerri opening every year. The case is you can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time. Gerri is the best at what she does and always has a nice smile and is very curtious to all her guests and all her customers. We send many of our guests every year and everyone has the same opionion as us. Gerri is simply the best. Better than all the rest. As Tina would sing.Keep up the good work Gerri. I am sad at some of the reviews on here as we have never ever had a bad experience. Some people use Gerri's toilets as public conveniences when there is public toilets up the road. That upsets me too. Also use the parking spaces available for Gerri's shop and not actually going into the ice cream shop, this drives me mad as I can't park to go into Gerri's shop. Please do not fill the bucket outside Gerri's shop as it is for Gerri's customers only and there is a public rubbish bucket at the bus stop if you can't take your rubbish home with you. You then should use the public bucket. Last time I was at Gerri's, there was some people eating chips (not bought at Gerri's as she only does ice cream not chip). They dumped all the chip packets, also all rubbish from thier car etc in Gerri's bucket. We, being Gerri's customers had to walk to the public bucket. Please be considerate to Gerri's real customers please. Take your car rubbish home and be curtious to other cutomers using the ice cream shop. Park some place else. Coaches and none customers to Gerri use the public toilets, not use Gerri's toilets they are for customers not public.

Gerry's Ice Cream Parlour never fails to impress and every time I'm up visiting the beautiful Orkney Islands, I always make time to drop in and have a cappuccino and one of their themed ice cream treats. Well recommended and served by the friendly Gerry. I always seem to catch it when it's quiet and pleasant but can well imagine how chaotic it can be with the streams of visitors. Can't wait until we're up next... maybe even 'attempt ' the Stenness Monster and get my name up on the wall ;-)

Gerri makes wonderful ice cream sundaes with Orcadian names and delicious flavours using the local Orkney Ice Cream. Visiting this Ice Cream Parlour is a MUST when you are visiting Orkney. If you are brave, try her Stenness Monster - seven scoops of Orkney Icecream in an enormous cone! Great place !

This is not a restaurant - Gerry's is an ice cream parlour in Stenness, on the main road between Kirkwall and Stromness. If you love ice cream you really should stop here. The parlour serves the wonderful Orkney ice cream which comes in a range of flavours. Try the Marmalade Cheesecake! There's lots of calorie laden sundaes as well as monster cones, with a roll of honour for those who have managed to eat a whole one.

Nice find passing through Kirkwall, Gemma was a very attentive and pleasantly natured lassie.... made for a nice experience and good to meet a local who shared his thoughts and experiences 😉 I'll pop in the next time I have more time to explore Orkney...thank you!

Busy kitchen on the night, by all accounts. No draught beers due to 'maintenance'? The food that myself and my partner had was fantastically underwhelming...sadly, we wanted a treat as it was our last night away. Steak and ale pie with 'seasonal vegetables', small amount of mash with handful of frozen peas/green beans. Maybe seasonal in Iceland, the shop!... Mac and cheese, surely you can't go wrong? Sadly, yes you can. Stodgy, overcooked pasta, unable to pick up a full piece and very little taste of cheese. Come on! #Serve proper veg, it's cheap. #Take less bookings if Chef is under too much pressure. #Give customers a better experience. # Quality and profit can be achieved, with a bit of thought. I'd say eat elsewhere until standards improve. A fish and chip shop would pay more attention to detail. Barman was very pleasan.

Simon is the person who served us each day this week. Very dry sense of humour & not a man to be rushed! The coffee and teas are good. Small selection of eats - a fab coconut and chocolate cake and hot pies. Only 4-5 small tables available ( and takeaway). Only seems to be open around 9am or 9.30am, not 8am as advertised. Good old fashioned easy listening music.

The website says open 10-5. This is only the gift shop not the brewery. Brewery tour times change daily. Staff said they expect tourists will phone ahead to ask about daily tour times. None of this information is on their website. Drove 40 minutes from Kirkwall for nothing
