When we arrived there were no customers waiting to be served so we made our way to the till and waited .... and waited... for almost 5 minutes. There were at least 3 staff members flitting about but it did not seem to occur to any of them that we might be waiting to be served. Eventually one of the staff came over and took our order of tea and cakes and we took it outside to eat in the last of the afternoon sun. That was when the next problem arose. There were only about 4 tables occupied but of the rest most were left uncleared from previous customers. Many tables and/or chairs had bird poo on them; I know this is a risk with outside eating especially when there are a number of trees around, but the staff need to be aware of this and ensure the tables and chairs are kept clean and hygienic. This place is badly in need of an effective, hands-on manager to improve the service, and the cleanliness outside, or people will not return, us included.

Visited today for a Cream Tea which was a gift from our daughter etc. The floor Manager (Lee) treated us like VIP's from beginning to end, and provided an excellent customer experience and service, despite the restaurant inside being very busy. Although we were seated outside, and my wife is a vegetarian, nothing was to much trouble. Thankyou very much once again Lee. Just in case Lee doesn't read the reviews personally, could a Senior Manager recognise and notify him that his good work was appreciated please? Its rare to get such a good service in my experience.

No Main Courses were available. Tried to order Soup and Jacket Potatoes at 11-40 (Menu said from 11-30) and told to come back later as till would not accept orders. Ordered at 12-00 and everything arrived promptly and was enjoyable to eat. Perhaps a sign by the till explaining when to order would have helped. All the staff were working very hard and were most hospitable.

We come here every month for our free drink, and we usually buy either a breakfast or some cake. The food is generally very nice and all the years we’ve been we have never had an issue with the food. Service is generally good, it can be very busy certain times of day/year in particularly weekends and school holidays. Service has been poor in the past (end of 2023) this was due to staff shortages, and the guys and gals working where under a lot of pressure, besides when go to relax so we don’t mind waiting. Some people need to remember, this is a garden centre cafe not the Hilton

Ordered scrambled egg on toast, described as creamy on menu. Arrived DRY, CRUSTY, COLD, salty and totally inedible (though plate was nice and warm!) Took it back up to the counter and asked for a refund, staff were not bothered that there was a problem - in fact one female member of staff seemed to find it amusing, no apology, no offer of replacement. Large puddles of water on floor from leaking roof, empty shelves. This store has really gone downhill in the last year, we used to shop here regularly but will not be returning.

Salad was dry as anything - most annoying was the acorn leaf that was in amongst it!! - mentioned it to the lady in the till who didn’t really seem that bothered by it. Not recommended The see to be a lovely place for a cuppa and a quick bite. Not sure why it’s gone downhill so bad.

Far too long wait for just two coffees!! We popped in for a coffee and a look around. Waited over 20 minutes for the coffee to arrive. Wasn’t worth the wait as the coffee was dreadful. Plenty of staff around but totally disorganised. The one barista made the drinks then had to take them to the customers table. Madness! Consequently a very long wait for drinks. Food arrived separately. Other customers not happy. Avoid unless you have plenty of time to wait! Management here need a lesson in efficiency.

We have stopped visiting this restaurant for meals as too often they have a very limited menu due to staff shortages. On this occasion we were there for a hot drink and a cake. Service was very slow which seems to have been the norm here for quite some time. When our drinks arrived much of my hot chocolate was in the saucer as the staff member bringing it must have had an issue along the way. He took the saucer away and replaced it with a clean one but there was no mention of replacing the missing third of my drink! I couldn't be bothered to question this as I was concerned I would be subjected to another long wait. We probably won't go back again. Walking back through the shop we saw numerous buckets and containers catching the heavy rain that was coming through the roof in multiple areas. The plants here are lovely but Dobbies really need to invest in this location if it is to thrive as there are plenty of other garden centres that are far more attractive inside and have better restaurants.

Buckets overflowing. The cafe had tables dragged from under leaking roof, water running down electrics. Staff unfriendly not taking orders or clearing tables everyone waiting for ages for drinks and food. Very unpleasant experience if raining would avoid. Not safe to walk round store with so much water we’re told by staff this is always like this, stock on shelves drenched awful.

Just appalling! There was a problem in placing orders and my wife waited for around 30 minutes to order and she was only fifth in the queue. It took about ten minutes for the coffees to arrive and a further 15-20 minutes for the food - that meant we'd been there an hour before eating anything. My wife enjoyed her jacket, my croque monsieur was soggy and cold. It is also very poor value for money.

We decided not to wait any longer and went to pay for the drinks and cake. We were told "the order didn't make it to the kitchen, human error". No apology at all. We thought we would give it another go being that I left a bad review in May 2019 and now gone to Dobbies. Well Im sad to nothing has changed and now at a time when cleanliness is a must, they talk the talk through the store but should look more closelyat their hygiene standards which are poor in this restaurant. We arrived at 0907 and was third in the queue but it took over ten minutes to reach the one girl serving and making the drinks. Ordered two full breakfasts, coffee and tea with toast. On her making the drinks we took them on a tray to a table, well if you can find a clean one that is!!! I looked at three the two before still had the remains of food on the table and on the chairs, and it has not been used yet toady??? if you look at my review in May 2019 you will see that I complained of this very thing then. Anyway we put down the tray and took off the coffee and tea and to my amazement the tray still had food stuck to it, and to top it all the teacup had lipstick on the side, and we are in a pandemic???. These were returned but had to go right around the one way system to do so and the staff [same one] could not care less. Breakfast came out cold beans cold toast hard fried egg, but this time we were ready and when she put the breakfasts on the table my wife checked the beans and we gave it back to her. She went off put it in a microwave and brought it back.We ate hardly any of it, the flies were non stop, this place needs inspecting and I will be putting in a report about the cleanliness. We noticed that a member of the staff went over with a spray after a couple had left the table, sprayed the table but left the chairs. Never again, please Dobbies stay in Scotland

At the entrance to the restaurant there is a notice asking you to queue before getting a table. The queue was very very slow, eventually my friend decided she would have to go and sit down as she is disabled and could no longer stand, there were lots of vacant tables. We continued to wait in the very slow moving queue, when we got to the till my friends husband decided to join her, he was then accosted by a very rude waitress, saying they should have not gone to a table, her husband tried to explain that his wife is disabled and could no longer stand, this (elderly) waitress was having none of it.Whilst we were waiting in the queue a gentleman left his table to ask her something again she was rude to him.The gentleman and his wife were sitting at a table close to us, they said they had been waiting 30 minutes for their pudding, but had decided not to wait any longer, even though they had paid for it. it was her birthday, how they had wished they had gone elsewhere. Just as they were getting ready to leave their dessert arrived.Out of no where the elderly waitress appeared and had another go about going to a table, we couldn’t believe it.I wouldn’t advise going to the cafe, it’s overpriced and very very slow service, and if you do go, take wasp spray as there are hundreds of wasps and flies.

Excellent, and all on the one level. We popped back to the café for a light lunch. Ok value, nice service with smailes again, but our jacket potatos were only luke-warm. Tasted nice though. The huge car park is the same as before, with lots of disabled bays close to the entrance, which is near the café. The exit, just past the tills, is a longer walk from thd disabled bays.Toilets are outside. A bit quirky but no worries. We like it here, and will visit 2 or 3 times each year.

With prices set at the upper end of local Dorset Tearooms, it was with much surprise that the teapot serving conventional tea costing £2.10 had so much staining around the lid. Whatever dish washing was available, I would suggest it requires servicing or review. Cakes looked and tasted as if baked by mass-production, but cost as if homemade. A simple Tunnocks wafer bar cost an eye-watering £1.00. All the staff were helpful and courteous. Perhaps Dobbies could review the set-up here?

Paid for 2 meals today in the cafe at 2pm , after any lunch time rush. At least I guess they had a rush earlier, because the tables were covered in empty plates and mess everywhere and we had to clean a table off ourselves in order to find somewhere to sit. Half an hour later we were still waiting for our meals. Why you ask? What could we possibly have ordered that would take so long to cook? Ham, eggs and chips! Yes, really, half an hour went by with no sign of our meals and us with better places to be than sat waiting in the dirty cafe area. Finally I went and asked a very nice young lady if it was going to be much longer, as we had places to be, so she went to check. While I was waiting for her to reappear I saw another young lady taking a bag of what looked like frozen chips from their storage area into the kitchen, whilst she was tearing the bag of food open with her teeth. By this point my hunger had taken over my brain, and despite the alarm bells of "no don't do it, get a refund and leave" was overwritten by the appearance of our long awaited food. We ate our handful of previously frozen chips, 2 barely cooked eggs and 2 slices of processed ham and left, never to return, even if we were starving hungry. These culinary delights cost us £7.95 each (pub prices). You might consider this expensive too, but when you factor in that it has now repeated on us both all afternoon, with that delightful greasy aftertaste you might think it was a bargain! It really is the meal that wont go away! My final grumble comes from the fact that although the disabled parking is right outside doors to the cafe part, when you try to leave, you are funneled through the whole garden centre and jettisoned out by the tills quite some hike still away from your poor old car that you could see out the window some time ago. No joke when walking is extremely painful. It's time they put in a separate cafe exit for those of us who do not want to buy anything and just want to leave. Not that it will make any difference to us, as we will never ever return again.

Several people around were having to wait a long time for their food, and in the end two people waited so long for their food they asked for their money back. The food was okay and I'm sure the staff did their best, but one asks "How many cooks were in the kitchen?". If you want to run a successful café you need sufficient staff both behind the counter AND in the kitchen to run it properly.

Garden centre and restaurant going downhill fast. Plants not looking good, manager seemingly disinterested in most things. Always a long wait for lunches, don't find this anywhere else locally. Food coming out cold etc. Used to look forward to lunches here but now avoid it. Many friends we have spoken to have had the same experience and now go elsewhere for their plants and food. Had a groupon for afternoon tea and visited on a Sunday. Didn't seem that busy but the staff were really stressed, with only one person making the drinks. Our afternoon tea took about half an hour to arrive by which time we had drunk all our tea! We had asked for vegetarian but they included rocky road cakes which contain gelatine. The scones were rock hard and cold and they were actually more like rock cakes. Also very dry and I didnt have any tea left to wash it down .it was served as a festive afternoon tea complete with mince pies which certainly were not home made and were still in their tin foil tin straight out of the packet. If you have a similar groupon, don't bother !!

We got inside and I found a table and the gentleman sat down while I went to be served, this is self service. I selected our cake from a stand and then had to queue for approximately 15 minutes for our drinks. The 2 girls serving were very slow and asked twice what my order was also when I got the drinks I had to ask for teaspoons. Don't go here if you are on a timetable.

Visited on the 15th of March with my mum for a Mother's Day gift for afternoon tea. The times were between 10-12 and 2-5pm. We went at 11.15 and the cafe was relatively quiet until about 11.30 when the lunch menu started. The afternoon tea came out on a three tier stand but with no extra plates, but it was fine cause the plates detached from the stand so you could use them. The sandwiches were lovely and the scones were huge! Couldn't even eat the small cakes as we were stuffed! One of the waitresses put the cakes in small boxes for us to take home! Was a lovely atmosphere and lovely afternoon tea! Recommended for the great value also!

A friend and I visited there on a Sunday with a Groupon voucher for afternoon tea. On arrival, the café seemed reasonably quiet. When we got to the counter there was a notice over the hot water boiler apologising that there was no tea available. My friend does not like coffee, so she had to order a hot chocolate with her afternoon tea. Not quite the same!. Then the food arrived on the 3 tier stand, no plates arrived with the food. I went up to the counter to get two plates, only to be told that we could only have one as the washing up hadn't been done. The food was nicely presented and the scones were lovely. The voucher stated we would receive unlimited drinks, however the staff looked quite confused when we went up for a refill. The voucher also stated that last sitting was 430 pm, only to be told that last sitting on Sunday was 330pm. A good job we didn't arrive later! We are not sure if this was a Groupon error or a Galton error. Overall a rather confusing and under average experience.

We are local and visit the garden centre regularly. Naughty breakfast usually once a week. Lunch about the same. Small main specials menu but the fish and chips are always very good, freshly cooked and good non greasy batter. Usually have a little wait because they are nearly always busy. Staff really pleasant. They seem to have a lot of good offers in the restaurant which makes life better. Have tried to go to the garden centre only for a meal but always end up finding something for the garden at the same time.Gardening club card a bonus. Prices probably 10% higher than some garden centres but you receive this back in reward vouchers.

But be prepared for a wait, as service can be a little slow if busy. Menu is limited, but well prepared food is the order of the day. Staff are always pleasant.

We visit this Wyevale Garden Centre occasionally and usually have something to eat and drink. One often has to be patient when queuing at busy times, which can be tedious. The food is generally nicely prepared and delivered to the table by friendly staff; the menu is limited, but there is usually something for everyone. Prices are not unreasonable for this standard of establishment. The ambience is light and airy, as the building is an ex-greenhouse. The retail area includes a pet shop, Edinburgh WM and other independent retailers, plus books, gifts and a good range of garden products. Worth a visit...

The space is fantastic and it is the only place I know of where they can have soft play, music, food, party games and cupcake decorating. Nearly ever parent there said they'd like to have their parties there, and you can't get better than that. As a parent of the birthday girl, it made my day as stress-free as possible too. I don't visit this Garden centre for the plants. Garden centres are as a majority, extremely overpriced. The cafe charges a fortune for their food and drink and seems to have confused itself as a gourmet restaurant. However, its saving grace is the soft play area that it offers for young children. This is one of the few soft play areas where I am actually able to leave my two year old daughter to play on her own without having to go around it with her. They charge £1.50 for an hour's entry, although I've never ever had anyone come round to check how long my daughters been in there. Do you always pay for my daughter but I've noticed quite a a few people walk straight into the park without paying entry. This needs to be monitored as it's not fair on the people who are honest and pay before they go in the park. It's kept clean and there is seating and tables around so that you're able to enjoy a cup of overpriced coffee while they play. Reading the rules of the play park, I think the age range should be lowered as I've been there sometimes eight-year-old children are running around a playpark blatantly made for toddlers and bullying the younger ones. They do offer a function to have birthday parties in there and it would be nice if they had a certain time they do it, as I've visited before and it's been closed. Driving 20 minutes to get there is a bit of a bugbear when it's been closed and there is no notification of that and it's very difficult to explain to a two year old child. I have started having to phone before I go to see whether the park is open but if you ever want somewhere to go on a rainy day with a young child, I would recommend this place. You can also get yourself a loyalty card so you can collect your points on your expensive coffee and play entry and get vouchers.

Am saddened to read the negative comments! We bring our two children to Galton all the time and absolutely love it! Food is great, staff are always friendly and the soft play area is the perfect size for our little ones to have fun whilst we relax and are able to 'chat' to friends! So this is the reason why we chose Galton for our sons 4th birthday party yesterday. It was brilliant! Chanelle is excellent and really goes that extra mile. You can tell she genuinely wants us all to have a good time and nothing was a problem or too much trouble. In fact I hardly had to do anything which was so nice!! Decorations were lovely and food was beautifully presented (lots of fab comments by parents!) 2hrs of soft play, cake decorating, t-shirt and card for the birthday boy and all for such a reasonable price - will definitely recommend to friends and we'll be back again to come and play - thank you Galton for throwing my little boy a super party! He and his little friends had a brilliant time!!!!!

I very rarely write scathing reviews on Trip Advisor, mindful of the impact this can have on a business. However, the service I received at Galton Garden Centre was so appalling that I have no qualms whatsoever about venting my feelings online. Intent on having a light lunch in the cafe, I stood by the counter waiting to be served for around 10 minutes. During this time, no one saw fit to acknowledge my existence despite staff presence around the serving area. When my order was finally taken, I was charged £4.60 for the soup of the day plus roll. That's not an exorbitant amount for a bowl of good quality homemade soup and hot, fresh roll. But for what eventually turned up 20 minutes later, it was daylight robbery. 20 minutes! I was presented with the most disgusting, gelatinous, utterly tasteless bowl of lukewarm green liquid that I have ever encountered in 30 years of travel around the globe. There is no other way to describe it. I can only assume that the soup had run out and the chef - no, that is a wholly inappropriate word - the food preparation assistant scraped the pan and then added some form of starch paste to make up the volume. The end result was a disgrace. I read from other similarly incensed patrons of the cafe that standards have fallen at the garden centre. Well, on the evidence of my soup, they have reached the bottom. I shall not be eating there again.

Chanelle the party organiser at Galton's was brilliant, she made everything run so smoothly, made everyone welcome and didn't complain that we ran over our set time. She deserves employee of the month or a promotion! The food was presented imaginatively, and the children didn't want to leave. My only suggestion would be to have a sign saying that the area is shut off for a party nearer the restaurant entrance, as a few parents came right up to the soft play to see it was shut and we could hear them curse as they left.
