Previously the best chip shop in Coventry. It had been owned and run by the same people for decades. I used to order online for home delivery a lot. Suddenly the food went massively down hill, pots of lumpy dried out gravy, undercooked fish, dried out chips... I went in to find it had been taken over by somone else. The shop is absolutely filthy. Surprise, surprise, they just got awarded a one star food hygiene rating. Run!

I would never use this fish and chip shop again!!!!!I paid for my chips and mushi peas.....and diet Pepsi.....he said that I did not pay.....when I did.....I said you must be tired!!!!!the place needs closing down.....and it's strange that it only open a couple of days a week.....it's disgusting......

Have it a chance as normally go to Cheylesmore. Never again, Chips were minging and sausage in batter was pathetic. Avoid at all costs

The workers are so nice and cheerful and great you with a smile when you walk through the door . Food is normally quite nice . Pretty clean aswell

Absolutely disgusting. Don't think it's a proper chippy. Chips tasted like cardboard,fish batter was burnt curry sauce was like water. Wasted £50. Please do not go there.

Many years ago this was a great chippy just got myself mini fish n chips and I've thrown it away the chips reheated and the fish is manky and looks like its from a freezer shop avoid at all costs

My partner was there as it opened today so thought the chips would be fresh but no they were obviously reheated. Just mostly scraps definitely not freshly made. Won't be going there again.

Worst chippy in the city! Have been a few times since the new owners have taken over and EVERY TIME they are cold, rubbish portions and bad quality chips. Thursday is the first day of the week they open and my chips are COLD REHEATS! Reheated from when? They've been closed since Saturday! No wonder they only open 3 days a week now. Surprised they do any business at all.

Really poor, gone down hill fast, such a shame as this use to be a great chippy, chips were reheated and they bought beans from the next door one stop for my order!!!! Curry sauce was like water and the mushy peas were inedible

Very disappointed, chips were not good, small little endbits, definitely reheated, my daughter didn't like the kebab mixed meat, tasted dry, not nice. I remember the old owners, a few years ago. We will not going back there, and stick to our local one in Chelyesmore.

Stood and waited 15mins for food. Got home and they forgot to put kebab in the bag. Chips are nasty & been sat there for ages.

Below average fish and chips. Not terrible but not great . Chips are not tasty. Fish tastes like frozen fish you’d put in the oven from tescos. Really hope they improve their recipe

Bought 2 fish and a portion of chips on Fri 28th April. My husband and I shared one of the fish. My son had his own. Late that evening my husband and I felt really sick and were in bed all the next day with sickness and diarrhoea. We didn't eat anything else.

The service is okay. It can be extremely slow even on days when it's completely empty - and even if your order is small. The opening times on Google review are completely wrong - and most days you can arrive to see the chippy closed completely. I think with some improved management, the place could really turn around and function more efficiently. Food is worth the wait though, fish and chips are always great! Burger wise, they can forget the salad sometimes - so make sure to double check!

Good food but one experience ruined everything Went out on a rainy night for fish and chips ad at some point I dropped my key. Get there and find that they are closed due to “a technical fault”. Get home and realise I dropped my key. Go back and retrace my steps but never find it. 40 minutes of walking in the rain and a lost key for nothing. I realise my lost key is not their fault but I’m very frustrated and need to vent.

Came to get a quick tea for our family and after a long wait (despite empty shop) we got home and were so disappointed. Chips weren’t properly cooked and were bland and flavourless, saveloy was cold and the mushy peas were just peas floating in green water! Inedible. It seemed very expensive too, £9.00 for cod. For the price of the food the quality should match and unfortunately it doesn’t. Won’t be returning, very disappointing as it used to be a good fish and chip shop.

Waited 20 minutes despite the place being empty. Very apologetic which is fair enough but Frydays was heaving on a friday evening - nobody goes in since the new ownership. Beech Tree Chippy is the one now. Do not recommend, cold & burnt food how does that happen. Gross.

Really changed, everything tastes poor quality. It’s all changed. Chips are not as good and the kebab meat tastes different. Portions are not as generous either.

Fish was dry batter was awful chips looked like they had been ccoked a week ago. Generally very bad worst fish and chips I've had in a long time so upsetting used to be so good. Will be going somewhere else for my chippy next time waste of money

Their customer service is absolutely fantastic! They always seem to go the extra mile for every single one of their customers, offering food to be cooked/served specifically to a persons requirements. Their food is always fresh and delicious too. I would highly recommend going there. I will be returning as a very happy and more than satisfied customer. Thanks guys :)

Shockingly bad: Didn't give us salad which we asked for. We asked for chicken only, they gave us half chicken and half kebab meat. The kebab meat had a lot of gristle in it. Chips were old chips reheated, some of them couldn't be chewed and some even had a funny taste. Fish looked old too, it was also chewy. Portions were small, probably half the size of usual portions. How are they still open?

I started using this chippy a few months ago when the new management took over. The food and the service was great. The owners cooked the fish to perfection. Yesterday, I visited the chippy and I had the worst experience. An Indian lady with glasses served me. I ordered: Regular chips 2 cod 1 mini fish 2 large curry sauce 1 scallop batch 1 Donner batch with chilly and salad I paid £30. These are the issues I have with the food: * The fish batter was dark, like it had been refried more than once. The fish inside was pretty dry. * The chips were hard and I hurt the inside of my mouth trying to bite into it. They didn't look refried, maybe ovecooked. My daughter also hurt her tooth eating the chips too. * The donner batch was horrible. The meat was overcooked. I had to throw half of it away since I could not bite through it. * When you get a Donner batch elsewhere and ask for salad in it, you get onion, lettuce, cucumber, tomatoe. I only got 5 peices of lettuce in mine. I could see the lady serving, looked in the salad pot and saw she didn't have anything but lettuce. Maybe cut some up instead of focusing on completing the sale? * I ordered 2 large fish but one of them was the same size as a mini fish. Seems a rip off. When the owner is working, this never happens so it's a bit hit and miss. I did email the chippy with a complaint but I got no response. Furthermore, you could tell that the Indian lady working there, did not want to be there. I doubt I will visit again.

just done a 12 hour shift, starving, asked for a chicken tikka kebab with lettuce and onion and they just gave me a little tray with a tiny bit of chicken tikka on it (not even any chips?!) and charged me £7.50, the pie was burnt on the bottom, feel absolutely scammed never going here again

2 x Fish and chips ordered with just eat. Arrived very late. Inedible. Concrete batter cold chewy reheated chips. Cost £27. Just eat offered £5 compensation. Joke. Won't use them again.

Chips were undercooked & hard . Steak & kidney pie was stone cold and didn't seem to have been cooked . I won't be returning .

Crap, Crap never ever go there again. This chippie has fallen off the cliff with service chips,burgers and fish is ALL horrible. I would say the worst chippie l have ever eaten from and it used to be one of the best until it had new owners...l will be reporting this place FRYDAYS to the health and safety dept at the council. PLEASE to all the old customers don't use this shop or else you'll end up I'll like l did twice..x

The smallest kebab in the world and they dont even add in salad ! chips half cooked. Its clearly changed hands and won't be around for very long never again.

This has been my favourite chippy for years, but unfortunately they've recently had a change of management - the new folks are lovely but trying to find their feet in it all. So u was bit disappointed on the last visit.

What on earth has happened to what used to be one of the best Chippy's, Doner Meat way over spiced, Cod in batter so hard it feels like it's been thrown in the fryer a few times, chips were just dreadful and greasy, a price list with the old prices crossed thru and higher prices written next to it in marker pen (illegal), a girl behind the counter more interested in her hair and make up. A great Chippy ruined :(

Great tasty food Portions are massive

I ordered a mini fish which was absolutely tiny. I understand weights when you order the fish, but this was a prawn in the sea of crabs. When I went to talk to them afterwards as I’m not someone to complain I received a lot of attitude. We’ve given this chippy many chance’s especially as we’ve had our order wrong so many times, but this is the last time. Mistake sorted but if the manager wasn’t around, no cares given. Such a shame. We will not get anything from here again and we live 2-4 mins away

Used to be so good. Food is good tbf. But we have a chippy on a Friday have done for ages and from here without fail every single time we order something is missing off the meal. When you contact the restaurant its awalys. "can you come and pick it up". Yeah of course I ordered a takeaway so I can come pick it up it not rocket science if you can't get an order right then stop taking takeaway orders. Once fair enough but it's consistent probably 5 out of 10 times ordering from here something is missing today it was a chip batch for my son.

What's has happened to this place. Dry burger. Kebab with no sauce or salad. Ordered because we had friends around it was embarrassing when it arrived we had to apologise for it. No choices on the just eat menu to order salad, chilli sauce so we expected it to come with it. Next time we will be going elsewhere.

We have had some else’s order delivered, driver just dropped the order in the porch and left! We have only ordered via just eat a few times and the first order never arrived and today we’ve got someone else’s order. The phone is always engaged! Total joke! Please bring back the old owners they were just fab!!

OMG The worse meal ever!!!! 😫 kebab meat was old, salad was just lettuce leaves, chips were old, haddock was battered to an in of its life and hardly any fish in it and got gravy instead of curry sauce. All of it went in the bin. The server also had a bad attitude 😒 can tell it has new owners very poor quality and service will not return.

Total joke.25mins standing waiting for x2 mini fish meals.Staff looked vacant and not concentrating on her own customers! Not even home and got incorrect drinks order!!! Last visit to Fridays after 15 years Need to get the old team back!

Bought 2 large cod and chips...terrible 1st time and last time!!! They had served mixed afternoon chips with new chips, old and greasy and served them...very easy to tell when I got home....also ordered 2 large cod yet they were far from large, very greasy batter at £6 50 each, best go elsewhere. Was not worth the money and effort...not sure if the business has changed hands recently from previous owners but food was much better back then! Thankfully will not be buying here again!

Terrible service, ordered gluten free fish and was told to wait half an hour. Rang again to check if they know it’s gluten free they said yes. Went to the chippy and they didn’t know anything about the order. Totally unprofessional amateur service, totally disgusting, never again,

I made a order on the phone, they said come in 25 minutes and it will be ready. Phoned again to make sure they had the order right, they said yes and they were rude because I rang again. We went to pick it up and they said they didn’t get the order. I made them aware I rang twice and I waited half an hour. He apologised and blamed his staff member. I walked out disgusted how can you run a business like this? Totally unprofessional, shambolic, unreliable, pathetic service, I don’t usually go here because the chips are disgusting but I was in the area and it was convenient. We waited for a order they never had no intention of delivering on, your never going to be successful with this lame attitude. Do yourself a favour and avoid disappointment by eating elsewhere.

Cold chips snd sloppy uncooked batter . Fish was dried out disgusting ! I called to complain and the manager said it was his customers liked their fish cooked!! I told him he was trying to justify his poor product and he told me he didn’t have time for my crap !

Great traditional fish and chips.

Paid good Money for awful food. Feel ripped off. Used to go here all often and travelled a couple of miles for the privilege however stopped going during COVID as wait was too long. Just visited chicken kebab and chips and was bitterly disappointed. Young girl serving was not friendly and tried to serve someone behind me before me. Portions were tiny. Chicken is stale and been obvisouly sat in container a while and tastes to spices like it’s cheap meat. Chips are hit and miss some ok some like chewing wood. Never again.

Got delivered half the size fish for the normal price of £5.50, when I called them they tried to give me the excuse of different supplier due to transportation issues, oh yes and this one was wider!! Had to drive up there and got myself the other half of the fish. Such a shame, they're trying to rip delivered customers off. Last time for me.

I've just been to the fish and chip shop and got some pie and chips for my work colleagues and got some fish for myself the food was absolutely revolting the fish was soggy and cold and I got a tin of muscles in their out of date by 1-year ear how could it be possible in the 20th century if the foods and the out of date by 2 years complete joke would not recommend stay away if you don't want poisoned

Usually a very tasty meal from here, chips are occasionally abit cold but never taste stale so it's an overall pass

Ordered fish n chips. Got triple fried chips and fish. Not a complete waste of money as the fish was ok. The chips weren't worth more than the paper they were wrapped in.

Wednesday 18.15 arived at the shop . 3 people inside 1 other out , so there are only 4 people in front of me . In 20 minutes only 1 person in the shop had been served and 1 delivery person . Que getting longer outside . There were 5 people working but nothing seems to be getting done. It looked like the new owner turned up and took off his coat and pitched in and then things started to move at last after half an hour waiting I'm finally managed to get my chips on leaving the shop it looks like some of the people in the back of the queue at left and giving up. This shop needs to get a manager who knows what he is doing regarding customer service , speed and efficiency of staff and react to the situation .

I must admit my first experience after the takeover I wasn't happy. Ordered chips and they were warm. But ordered a second they were beautiful. Thank you to listening to my experience. Don't worry I'll be visiting agai n . Tonight's chips were perfect. Thank you.

I love fish n chips so my review is restricted to experience of this one single menu choice. The business has recently changed hands. The new manager takes pride in cooking his fish to order. I like my batter fine and crispy (and NOT thick and stodgy or soft!). I challenge you to find a better cooked piece of fish anywhere in Coventry. Seriously. The chips are great as well and servings are generous. Like everywhere, at busy times they are busy and with only 2 allowed in shop (due to Covid) you might have to queue outside for bit. But the wait is worth it.

Hands down the best chippy I have been to. Very high quality and top customer service. You will not be disappointed.

Excellent chippy as always with top service. They recently had a changed management and they really have improved the food. The tandoori chicken is a must try! Looking forward to trying the fish next!

This must be the best Chip shop in Coventry. They always have a small but manageable queue, but for good reason. The food. Its absolutely delicious with a lot of Variety. The new management took over 3 months a go and are always friendly as well. You also get 10% NHS discount which is a nice bonus.

Such a good name for such a fish bar, A marking feature of this place is the diversity of the menu, not only will you find fried fish and fried sausages, but also fried mushrooms or pineapple, even pizza if I am not mistaken. The range of dishes offered way exceeds your conception of things you consider to be possibly fryable. Don't be daunted to try some, however, for thou may be admirably surprised. Proposing a fish and chips combo for around 7-8 pounds, the bar offers you the possibility to choose your batter, whether thin and crispy through thick and creamy. In practice nevertheless, on Fridays, the rush is such that you end up receiving any fish on the counter. Another issue I noted is the inconsistency of the batter, such that the place does not have their style of batter. Some days it is creamy, some others it is thin, you thus don't know what to expect.All in all, does the taff perfectly, reasonably quick service even during peak hours, and correct pricing.

all staff were lovely. Some people didn't get along with the Ex manager however everything was fine until November 2020, when the new owners came. They sacked 1 person who was from the original staff team, then 1 more a few weeks later, then they sacked the manager who had been there for 30 years. After that the business started failing miserably, and you could tell. Shortly after this 1 more staff member was "removed" , and then a month after that, another staff member who had been there for 8 years was also "removed". A new staff member was hired who was amazing, especially at cleaning, however she left due to the fact she couldn't stand the belittling sexist comments coming from the boss. She decided to answer back to him one day to tell him to stop and he fired her (surprise surprise) If you couldn't tell, they are removing all the original staff so they do not have to pay wages to anyone.On Saturday night i left this place for good. The Owner made a mistake with a text message which resulted in miscommunication, because of this he decided to shout and bellow at me, insulting me and calling me names in front of the entire shop to the point where i was shaking. All because he made a mistake.Im not going to say anything more as you can already tell the food quality from every other review online. All i all i do not recommend this place at all due to the way the Staff are treated.It is honestly sad that a community favourite takeaway for over 30 years has turned into whatever it is now. Michael did a great job in starting and managing this place, it is such a shame to see what it has become.

Excellent crispy Haddock cooked to perfection, and wrapped in boxes. They offer good fish and chips and value for money

Honestly, this fish and chip shop never disappoints . It is very exquisite and makes me get all tingly when I think about this shop. The chips just melt in your mouth when they are drowned in a nice bit of vinnigger. Love it. Leyton is also a 10/10 staff member. PS. I loved it when I saw the sweetcorn I had 10 hours later in the bog inside my excrement.

The quality of the fish and chips excellent as usual. BUT, you need to sort out the service for people queuing at the door. It appears that the Just eat delivery guys have preference. I personally qued for 40 minutes on Friday evening to get served.

Best chippy I have ever had in Coventry! The food arrives fresh and not soggy and it's packaged very neatly in boxes with greaseproof paper lining. I will make this my go-to chippy from now on. Very pleased.

Our first time at Frydays Seafare , ordering with Deliveroo and from Tile Hill our food came on time and food was hot. The cod and chips was great. As was everything else. Will order again. Thank you.

Very poor customer service. Drivers waiting and not being attended.

Extremely rude older female staff member working in this chippy; berating and belittling other team members in front of customers whilst the owner looks, silently, on. She’s rude to customers too. Awful that she gets away with it without censure! To the owner you know who she is - she knows who she is. Either retrain her in professional standards so that she can work in front line customer role or get new staff. Otherwise lose custom! Have been happy with this place for years but will now go to Daventry road chippy instead.
