Friar Tuck's in Newry and Mourne

One of my many times at Friar Tucks, Newry. Seeing as I was in the mood for a takeaway I figured Friar Tucks would do nicely. There were some tables around if you wanted to sit in. Whilst walking up to the counter to make my order I couldn't help but notice that the floor was quite dirty and sticky. That generally seems to be the case in most takeaways. Anyways, I ordered my food and sat down while I waited. The food took a long time to be prepared which was a bummer as I was famished. In the end it came. Once arriving home I tucked in to one of the nicest Friar Tucks I'd had in a long time. Chips were well cooked and delicious. Burger was fantastic too. Decent place to go for a takeaway.

I rang Friar Tucks sugar island newry to order a delivery and the guy that answered the phone was so rude and arrogant that I hung up the phone. I was trying to ask about a special that was advertised for chicken burgers and he sniggered and laughed down the phone telling me it definitely wasn't their restaurant advertising this offer which it clearly was online and he then proceeded to argue with me that they had no website or online information which i was clearly reading out to him. when I tried to ask about how we could pay for order he shouted down phone do you want to order or not and sighed down the phone to this I responded by hanging up the phone. Never again will I go near Friar Tucks Sugar Island Newry. I then left the house and drove in to Friar Tucks in Monaghan Street Newry and had a much more positive experience the staff were really nice and took the time to explain any special offers they had on, food was prepared and presented very promptly by very helpful and courteous staff. The Sugar Island store could learn a lot from the Monaghan Street staff. Will definitely be back to Friar Tucks Monaghan Street Newry

Well now what can I say I went into sugar island cafe on Wednesday 11th October to get take away dinner for my son and daughter-in-law and three children under five .my son and daughter-in-law were celebrating their wedding anniversary as they both work very hard I wanted to get something the whole family would enjoy as they live outside of Newry this is a treat for them my server on the day was Katie her attention to detail and her tips on what to get such an asset to any business

Ordered food and took a seat. When the food arrived it was the wrong order. I had ordered two super ft meals but we received to chicken supremes. I went up to explain the situation. The server simply said 'I thought you said Supreme, and it has already been served'. Would not correct the mistake. Very poor service for overpriced food. Avoid.

Awful service and didn't even remember to put my burger in the bag. I can understand it happening once but this is a reoccurring issue.

I really don’t know what the fuss is about this place. It serves overpriced, industrially produced, rubbish food. I know people who have moved away to work and live and when they return home for visits a stop here is a must for them. I find that sad. I was with a group who decided to go here for their chicken burger and chips. It would never be my choice but I was well outnumbered. It was takeaway given the Wu flu and while I had this rubbish bought for me but I think it was around £7.5 for chicken breast burger & chips with a Diet Coke. The burger included a white bread roll and coleslaw. The chicken had a coating that was barely ok. The coleslaw was predominantly thin sliced white cabbage with a very well thinned down factory made mayonnaise. Euch. The Diet Coke was flat and had an unpleasant chemical note to its smell/taste. The factory made chips were a good size, cooked in a factory refined veg oil rather than animal fat but they were poorly cooked so they were limp and lukewarm and a deeply unpleasant eat after only a few minutes. The bread roll had all the texture of how I imagine damp cardboard - in short poor. Hunger made me eat the industrial chicken, I had some of the top part of the factory made bread roll and two chips. This is nasty food - it has the edge on Mc D’s - but at the price it’s sheer rip off. Hopefully I won’t re experience this place. If you want this type of food try making your own as the quality and taste difference will be huge and your tummy and intestines will thank you.

ordered a chicken burger and super chip meal which came to a rip off 9 40 . However that wasbt the problem .After waiting 24 minutes this waitress came out and asked and what I wanted. She had forgot. When I asked to soeK to the manager called Stephanie They didn't know where she was ,nor did any staff know how to do till refund . This normally does good food but at these prices and bad customer service the Downeys need to cop.on.

Friendliness and attentive in every way for a fast food service. Place was really busy yet staff were so happy to serve just loving there job not to mention the food was delicious this kind of attitude and work ethic deserves to be recognised and appreciated well done friar tucks sugar island

Love the Monaghan street Restaurant makeover. Friendly staff, very clean, good menu and good value for money.

The chicken burgers are delicious. Although the menu has been extended the chicken burgers are the speciality in this fast food restaurant. Service can be hit and miss as some staff are fabulous while others are typical young people who haven’t been trained in customer care. Never mind the chicken burgers are delicious.

I went to friar tucks on sugar island after many years Expecting it to be similar to the one on monaghan street But I was very disappointed with the food the curry chip was horrible The coleslaw on the chicken burger was yellowing and far from fresh My son asked to use the toilet which was dirty no toilet paper and broken hairdryer Where did this once great takeaway go wrong?

This year sees the 30th birthday of this iconic restaurant. I can remember frequenting it in 1988 when I lived in the area. Then my favourite meal was chicken burger with the legendary scrumptious coleslaw, large curry chips and Coke. I’ve just had the said meal and it was delicious, exactly the same taste as 30 years ago. It cost £8.50 and they accepted €10!!! Hope it’s here in another 30.

Very small portions which came with a very large price. Food was disappointing greasy and on the cold side. Staff were like stone no customer service at all. Such a shame as I had heard great things about it.

Fab food and service, extremely clean and up to date. Great place at brill prices , staff are wonderful.

So paid £17 for our food (3 of us) an 2 kids. Food was horrible.. staff are arrogant they need some serious customer service training an learn not to be so dopy. Especially the fat male.

People in the locals in Newry were raving about the chicken sandwiches, so had to try one.Very good food,but bathrooms are off limits!? Mayeb that was because it was late at nite.

Stopped off for a quick snack enroute and pleased with the cleanliness, staff appearance and 5 star treatment. Food was hot a fairly quick to come and well worth the money. tasty and in Abundance. Great fast food treat.

Este sitio ha ido cuesta abajo desde que una vez dieron el mejor pollo hamburguesas en el planeta de ahora también corrió una. El tamaño de las porciones y el contenido de grasa están abajo. Los precios son abusivos. Calidad de los ingredientes y la comida no es genial y lentamente empeorando.

Will not be back,food average at best and very expensive,staff friendly though but food not worth the price at all.

Normalmente me encanta un FTs cuando estoy de vuelta en la ciudad natal de hoy, pero el servicio era lento, desagradable y si desea experimentar. . Y tuvimos que lidiar con enanos moscas alrededor de caras mientras comíamos. Y lo peor de todo, había un grupo de preadolescentes, sentados en una mesa foodless, lucha libre, jaleo, hawking y escupir en el suelo y gritando y cuando nos dijeron que el personal que hicieron. . . Absolutamente. . Nada. Pobre espectáculo.

¿Por qué no hay inodoro en las mujeres? El secador de mano tampoco funcionaba. La comida era deliciosa, y creo que sus raciones son más grandes aquí que en la calle monaghan. Pero el servidor estaba tan poco, bastante claramente odia su trabajo y me confundí todas nuestras salsas y olvidó uno de nuestras bebidas.

Me encanta el aule FT! Snack super hermosa fuerte y salsa como de costumbre. Col mejor en todo el mundo. Personal rápida y una tranquila zona como de costumbre. No puedo decir que me encanta lo que he hecho con el lugar - parece un hotel/mcdonalds híbrido del infierno. Y el personal puede parecer un poco asqueroso (como patatas fritas en pelo asqueroso) pero volveré como una polilla a la llama hablando de la Dieta de lunes.

Friar tucks has always been a family favourite, it is unfortunately very unpredictable. Sometimes you can hit it when the food is fresh and hot! And then there's times when your left disappointed due to stringy chicken and reheated chips. It is a pity that they can't keep their standards at a continually high level as you would not mind paying the high prices they charge. When it's good it's very good but as the rhyme states when it's bad its horrid lol.

food is plentiful and the flavor in the chicken is really nice, not for people on a diet, everything on the main menu is full of high calories and fat so tastes fantastic..prices are always getting higher because we will pay for it and just complain to each other :) lol

Ordered food for sit in in monaghan st Newry .Upstairs was extremely un hygienic for a kids area so unclean that I didn't want to be there.Iv been extremely ill these past three days and that's since eating out of friar tucks. ... don't even know how yous are still open with how unclean yous are

Good food, good choice, good service. Friar Tucks restaurant has plenty of seating, is open long hours and provides delicious food.

This is a typical 'fast food joint' which i would normally avoid but we were on a long drive and there was little else open. I was surprised at how amazingly large my chicken burger was and have to say it was ridiculously tasty. That might have been the 7 hours i had spent driving and on a boat but it will last long in the memory

Chicken, supersauce and coleslaw are among the best you'll find anywhere in the country and the chips are great. They've downsized their chicken burgers quite noticeably, but I prefer that... yes, their prices are too high but then again I keep paying it don't I. It's worth it since its only an occasional treat

Ordered food via Just Eat this evening (13/02/16) got an email to say order was declined, so rang up to find out why and the cheeky lad said they were too busy to deliver out to us and they didn't have time...(Meigh.) Loyal customer who has supported local business for last 25+ years will not be back. I can understand it being busy, we didn't mind waiting, but the attitude of the lad on the phone was disgusting. Clearly they don't want our money or business!

friar tucks used to be the spot for the best chicken burger about and get a family fast food meal spent many times here during my younger years,, I wouldn't go back after few bad experiences food didn't taste good chips doubled dipped, some times raw chips, its very expensive aswell

The service in this restaurant is woeful - the young guys and girls are always too busy chatting with each other - i find this very rude!! Will not be back

Went here for a chicken burger last week. It does what it says, fast food and hits the spot when you are hungry

wanted a super chip and asked for the sauce on the side as it for my 8 year old daughter. and she doesn't like too much sauce. was told it would cost 1 pound extra. when I said it was part of the meal as advertised the server was quit cheeky and said if I didn't want it then would I move out of the way as there were other people to server . I asked for the manager and was told he wasn't in . while outside I phoned the establishment asked to speak with the manager and got speaking to him the manager/ owner . was no help at all and said it was policy to charge extra for the sauce if you wanted it on the side .

My family love this place. Go every summer. Big juicy pieces of chicken. The big family box is great. Proper chips nice and not too chunky. Great gravy as a side. As fast food goes this is great.

This place used to be my fav when i was a teenager and did great burgers and chips . I went and ordered a superchip and burger . The Burger bap was mushy and the chips arrived with a sauce on top with cold skin. I asked the waitress who was pleasant to please change this . She came back with a carton of very fried chip ends and cold sauce . I explained to them this was very poor and event worse the second time . At £7 a meal you expect a bit of quality from the Downeys . Sorry folks it was terrible

Now friar tucks has been around in newry from before I was even born but even I know it has gone downhill. Some days you can get lucky and you can get an absolutely to die for chicken supreme or whatever tickles your fancy don't get me wrong. But other days you're wondering what's IN the chicken? The service from staff is often poor and the hygiene of the establishment would suggest you should take out. But don't get me wrong - you can't bate a friar tucks. IF it's done correctly.

This is the top food in N.I. Chicken burgers come from another planet. Super FT does what it says on the tin. Six stars!!

Friar Tuck's locations are plentiful around Northern Ireland. Eat in or Take Away, its the basic fast food menu, plus ice cream counter, etc. A ok spot to pop in for a quick snack. Not a formal sit-in place however.

Just got our near £17.00 delivery from here and guess what....WRONG again!!!!.....couldn't be bothered waiting for replaced food but did ring to let them know...said they would give me a free curry chip on my next home order....personally won't happen....either they don't listen or don't care..I order something I expect to get it, not some random other food,as I said this is NOT the first time this happened I would NOT recommended here for home delivery if you actually expect to get what you order.

Food can be hit and miss, but I've had some really shockingly bad food here over the years and some shockingly good food also! It's local fast food with locations over Northern Ireland and worth the visit I think if your passing through. Also they're famous for there super chip, and chicken burger and I've family from all over Ireland who request one if I'm coming down.

You cannot beat the Chicken Burgers with Coleslaw in Friar Tucks. I lived in USA and craved the Super Chips.. These are the best and only chicken burgers I would eat! Try one!

The first time I ate food from Friar Tucks I was in my early teens and now when I am hitting 40 years of age I have vowed never to step food in it again! We purchased a take away order and as soon as we got home opened it up to find it was probably the worst food I had ever wasted money on. I immediately phoned them to tell them particularly how the chips had been fried over and over so many times they were inedible. I asked who I was speaking to as I thought I had recognised the voice as being the owner...I was right, I told him of how I had been buying from FT for almost 30 years and how over the years I have moved for work and not lived in the area at times, that every time I visit or move home that FT was one of our first ports of call and that having just moved home a couple of weeks ago that every time we come home FT seems to get worse and worse and that it was a shame that they did not serve food to the quality that they did years ago....His response was very shocking, he said 'right, I've heard your story and don't want to hear any more of it. We are busier that we have every been, you can pick up your partial refund tomorrow.....I am not interested in anymore of your stories'. He was downright rude in my opinion. My advise is stay away because no matter if the food did improve there is no way I would want to give my money to someone with that snotty attitude to customers. Also the place was filthy.

The BFM has always loved the chicken burger and creamy coleslaw since high school!!!! An old staple of the Newry night goer. The Chicken burger with the most amazing coleslaw, for hungrier super chip, chips in chicken gravy.. gourmet its not but definitely has its use after the pub

Some good deals but food is average. It is a place having an identity crisis. It's not a fish and chippy. Its not a pizza place. Nor a burger joint. It dabbles in a bit of everything not very well. Its not cheap either for fast food. It opens late so thats cool.

Friar Tucks is a fast food joint. The food is always of a high standard especially their chicken products. Chicken burgers are full to the brim and they use freshchicken fillets. Locals coming home for holidays often go to Friar Tucks for a taste of home.

Service was ok, but the food is over priced for all that you get and 45-60 mins waiting for a delivery which by then the food was cold. A member of staff is always very obnoxious towards me and a few others so I have stopped getting friar tucks altogether.
