Fox and Hounds Thurston in Mid Suffolk

Great local pub! Nice staff & good selection of ale every time.

Last week the food and was good. Sad to say this week the service and food were not great. Risotto was extremely salty (we left most of it) and service slower than usual. We will look for another venue to eat. Not a big fan of pop music from tv screen above my head.

June 2024 Went for a midweek steak. The 16oz rump was fabulous. The menu on the website is slightly different prices to the current menu, but the food was definitely as good as always. Great pub; my mates like the ales & the lager is pretty decent too, along with the cider. Cheesy chips are the best & the staff are very friendly. Went again in June 2022 with my two sons for a midweek meal out. Great value steaks and it was warm enough to sit outside too. Shame I forgot to get my loyalty card stamped.

Our first time visit 10th April around 5.30 ish. Wonderful village pub with a great lively atmosphere. Good selection of real ales etc. Food was very good and great value. Exceptional service from all of the staff. Good place to stop off if you are on the Cambridge to Ipswich line. Station is only 200 metres away.

This is becoming a frequent place for birthdays and anniversaries etc. The Staff are all friendly, today a birthday lunch for 6 family members. Excellent good, pipping hot food, no delays but not rushed, a birthday cake brought out on cue. Special thanks go to Sarah, Shane Keith and Andy. The beer is also pretty good too !

Rugby night so busy,And we never been here before ,But as we our anniversary we went. Can't fault the staff very polite and friendly Food was really good.hot and pently of it. If ever this way again would definitely eat here again.

Lovely curry, couldn't fault it. Unfortunately we went on an evening when Rugby was on tv so the bar was full and very loud. People standing along the bar area and into the dinning area where us and others were sitting to eat which didn't make for a pleasant time. We found that we couldnt hear each other talk and felt uncomfortable. We soon ate and left. This was our mistake for not thinking about it being busy as of the six nations being viewed. A suggestion to staff that maybe customers are asked to stand more into the bar area when drinking rather than the dinning area.

Fantastic food, serving sizes are extremely generous. The staff are all friendly, my first time here but was travelling through and wasn't disappointed. It is somewhere I would return to.

Popped in for lunch & found it busy for a Monday lunchtime, which was a good sign.Food was very good & plenty of it.Enjoyed it with a pint of Old Ale 🍺

Great value for money pub grub. Good size portions. Sirlon Steak was very good. Cooked perfectly for medium rare and very tasty. Good size cod and giant burgers. Almost too much food so we did not have room for desert. Perhaps the chips are too chunky !

Always a lovely calm visit here. For a village pub the range of cask ales on is exceptional. The prices are excellent too and the staff and locals are friendly. A lovely, traditional, comfortable pub which for anyone passing Thurston on the train, who has some time to maybe alight and catch the next one, for example. This is a must. I always make an effort to visit if I can.

We was a group of 14 people we pre ordered or meals through the week.the food came out all on time and hot .the staff were excellent.and a good selection of real ale on tap boom what more do you want.will be going again.big thanks to all the staff 👍👍🏆

A very nice place with a nice outdoor area. Unfortunately, the people who goes there are very racists. I have been there couple of times. Last time I have been there was 3 days ago with my wife. Two men were sitting at the bar area, one turned his back on us, which is not a problem, and the second one was steering at me in a strange way...

First time visiting Fox and hounds. I ordered the steak & Ale pie, the food was served piping hot, by one of the friendly waiters, (didn’t catch her name, wearing glasses) absolutely delicious, big tender chunks of beef, served with chips & veg, carrots tasted a little to chemical too me, for dessert I choose biscoff cheesecake, looked really presentable, tasted a little lifeless, so for that reason, I give 4stars. Would come back again to try a roast dinner. 😃

Lovely meals, have been for lunch a couple of times, staff very accommodating, gluten free options available. Small and homely place. They do a loyalty card too! Looking forward to going back as feel very comfortable there.

I had a pint of Jaipur IPA which tasted quite fresh. Full of gloomy looking locals but friendly and nice enough place for a pint. Food prices looked reasonable too!

We came for a meal today as it’s my birthday and so glad we did. The food was amazing, massive portions and the staff are very friendly. Even our two teenagers said how lovely it was and they are fussy!! We ve got a loyalty card and we definitely be returning!!! Couldn’t fault it

Not at all impressed. Booked a table for the quiz, specifically said on the phone to them I’d book the table early so we could eat before the quiz. Drive over 30 minutes only to be told they don’t ever do food on Sunday evenings. Asked the waitress, as this was their error if we could order food from a takeaway as all so hungry, she said no. We didn’t have time to go anywhere else without missing the quiz. No compensation, not even a free drink. Terrible service. I’ve worked in pubs my whole working career and understand mistakes happen but it’s then how you deal with them. Terrible customer service from start to finish! A simple genuine apology, offer to help and rectify it would have been fine. Will never go back.

Not very clean and food service is a bit chaotic. Reasonable beer and ambiance but not really a place I would go regularly. The food is at they lower end of pub grub.

The Fox and Hounds delivered exactly what one might expext from a good pub. The beer was good, as was the wine. Better tan average at the price. The food was served hot, well prepared and tasty. It isn't a restaurant meal, it's a pub grub bit a good one. The service was well above average and the price was more than fair.

First time visiting this pub. Really lovely place to visit and have a meal. Portions are huge and a great choices on the menu and specials board....Staff are really friendly and helpful. I'm definitely going back again, Definitely recommend a visit 👌.....

Beer&Cheer a Reason 2 Visit Here 🚂🍺

Food was given to us, I asked for some salt and vinegar - I was told it was inside get it yourself, I then asked for knife and fork to be told its inside get it yourself, unbelievably bad service never experienced such rude and poor service.

One of our stop off pubs when out cycling. Good that all outside tables have brollies. Good pint of Adnams. Like the fact that dog area is fenced off.

Cycled from Bury, sat outside in the large beer garden, enjoyed cheesy chips and chilli nachos, a couple of pints washed that down all in all very satisfied. Pleasant staff. Decent pub.

Went for a Friday evening meal here last week and we are very glad that we did! Service was friendly, attentive and professional, the choice of beers was great and the food was plentiful, tasty and brilliant value. I really can't fault The Fox and Hounds and will no doubt be returning soon 🙂

Honestly don’t think I’ve ever been to a pub with a better atmosphere and team behind the bar and kitchen. Definitely the, if not one of the best pubs you could walk into in Suffolk. The staff are so friendly and really give you such a comfortable and warm welcome, alongside the locals who are more than happy to welcome people into conversations etc. This pub has such a good family feeling. Great food, and tailor to children within the dining hours. Then turns into a proper pub with a great atmosphere there on after with absolutely crystal clear 5 star beer. Dogs are welcome within the bar which is such a vital part, considering how many dog lovers we have in todays world. I can honestly say I’ve never been to a more complete, well managed and considerate pub who are determined to provide the best experience for both community and external guests throughout. Really great job guys, everyone needs to get down to the Fox and Hounds and experience what I have! (As someone not local to the village of Thurston)

Google’d what time they did food and it says 8:45. Arrived at 8:30 to be told they don’t do food. Had my little girl with me and was told no kids after 9 o’clock. Ok, no problem so we sit outside. 9:45 comes round and I get a pizza delivered as my little one is hungry. Bearing in mind I’m sitting outside with my group of friends who come here every week to be told I’m not allowed a pizza. All just seems so petty. I wanted to eat here. Even got here before the time they apparently stop serving. Sat outside to then be told I can’t eat. So unhelpful. I tried to work with them. Tried to spend my money and eat here. Next time I will go to a more user friendly pub.

Lovely place to take the dog after a walk in the Abbey Gardens. Good coffee and tasty cakes. Decent dog friendly area inside.

I will never visit this pub ever. I booked a table for 10 people but unfortunately had to cancel due to covid. I emailed 5 days before the booking to cancel and offered to use the £50 deposit on another occasion. They claim now that they did not receive my cancellation even though i replied directly to their email. They asked me to bring proof of my emails to them only to be told as they have not received my emails there will be no refund. I find it most unprofessional to get me attend the premises with my proof only to ignore it.
