We had a great meal here. We went for the valentine's day set menu, which was more than we could eat! There was a really good variety of dishes and the staff made a real effort to accomdate the gluten free member of our party. I'd particularly recommend the deep fried ice cream, which was a lot nicer than it sounds

My partner is a big foodie so we order lots of separate dishes each one just as good as the last staff are so attentive and quick to help should you need anything . Used to be good , but gone down hill, such a shame as we loved this place!! The owner can’t handle honest feedback so he’s having to ask people to write reviews to make him feel better and boost his online status !! My review is not false, it's honest. Just because you have video footage of us eating food doesn't prove we were happy with our meal. I will say it again, it was bland but we finished it as we hate food waste! I don’t mind paying for quality food, this restaurant is not quality. Dear Jackie, I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with our recent dining experience at your establishment and, more importantly, your subsequent unprofessional and abusive response, I’ve never been spoken to the way you spoke to me over the phone by given honest feedback. Look at all my other reviews, I always give honest reviews. I have a good friend in Cambridge who runs a very popular restaurant and the food is much nicer than your establishment, the rice and portions are much more generous. I informed him of our conversation and he was shocked at your response. My partner and I visited your restaurant last week and were very disappointed with the food. The dishes lacked flavour, and the portion sizes were small. We finished eating all of our bland food due to the price we were paying and we hate wasting food. Following our visit, my partner left an honest online review reflecting this negative experience. Instead of addressing our concerns professionally, when I called by phone you proceeded to shout at me and call us liars. This behaviour is unacceptable and frankly shocking. How can we possibly be considered liars for expressing our honest opinion of the meal we were served? A simple apology and acknowledgment of our feedback would have been far more appropriate. The reason we didn’t bring this to your attention on the night was due to the restaurant being so busy. I have also taken the time to read other online reviews, and it seems this is a pattern of behaviour. It is disheartening to see that you appear dismissive and abusive to customers who share negative feedback. If you are unwilling to accept constructive criticism, perhaps you should reconsider your suitability to run a business that depends on customer satisfaction.

Been enjoying a weekly takeaway since they opened over a decade ago, and the food is always superb. The friendly staff are great people who'll really look after you well. If we're dining in with friends, sometimes Jackie the boss will cook something special like a sea bass if you give him enough notice to get it from the fish market. We love pretty much the whole menu, but our big favourite dishes are the salt & pepper king prawns and fillet steak in black pepper sauce. What's the point of going into Cambridge when we have the region's best Chinese right on our doorstep!

I only usually write holiday reviews, but having just had the most exquisite meal at Forum House in Great Shelford, I just had to write a review. We love the food from Forum House, and even though there are several closer Chinese takeaways in Cambridge, I will always drive out to them. However, tonight, my wife and I decided to eat in rather than take the food home and it was exceptional. A Saturday night, the restaurant was absolutely packed, but we were greeted with the same usual warmth that we always receive. There are quite a few foods that my wife can't eat, but the waiting staff were incredibly helpful, adjusting dishes to suit us. Despite the packed house, and the fact that the team seemed to be in constant motion, the service was quick, the food arrived promptly and - I really can't stress this enough - it was absolutely delicious. We love their takeaways, but eating in raised the level still higher. Although we are fortunate enough to be able to eat out quite often, my wife made the comment that it was one of the nicest meals that she has had in a long time, which sums it up really. If you're looking for really good quality Chinese food, in a really friendly restaurant, then you can't go wrong with Forum House. We've been eating there for over a decade and have never had a bad experience.

Very average food/service. We arrived quite early for a Saturday night to avoid the crowds and our food was rushed out with very little taste and substance. The sizzling prawns with onions was literally a large plate of four prawns and a big pile of onions! £15 please! The special fried rice was a tiny bowl, barely two spoons full £10! The chicken curry tasted like a Tesco cheap curry pot. Overall we were sorely disappointed in the quality and presentation of the food. In the end we finished what we could eat and left to pay the bill. They didn’t even check on us midway to see if all was ok! We figured they weren’t going to give us the bill so my partner went up to the front and paid. It was that bad! We’ve been to this place in the past and it’s been alright but we figured the chef is on holidays. Either way it’s hit and miss and after tonight’s tasteless expensive experience £115, I would never go back! My local Chinese in our village does better than this crap. Response to passive aggressive owner: Wow! if only your attention to detail in responding to critics reviews was reflected in your food quality. I can see a trend of other displeased reviews from other guests along with your responsive sarcastic tone. Keep it up! I'm certain more dissatisfied responses will keep appearing as you continue to rip the patrons off with low quality dishes and small serves. My partner and I also noticed your recent fake reviews which included our names, you must be desperate.

In response to Brett and Scott: From a customer/reader point of view, I personally think that it will be more appropriate and helpful to raise any criticisms with prove, for example: a photo of the dish with only 4 pieces of prawn and a receipt for the expensive £115 dinner. I am one of the customers at Forum House and have never encountered your issue of having such a tiny portion. Therefore, I sampled a few of the dishes you had the other night and they came out to be a standard serving size. As a business owner myself at the service sector, I can see people are leaving a lot more negative feedbacks/ complaints nowadays. However, most of the time construct feedbacks or complaints did not feed through to the front service or management on the spot, leaving customers like you not being satisfied simply because no one could read your mind and rectify the issues you had. Just leaving a negative review afterwards could neither resolve your disappointment nor for the restaurant to make you another dish. There were a few occasions that I had unpleasant experience with the flat Iron and KFC Cambridge, I ended up leaving 5 star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ review for them because they resolved my problems right away just by face to face interactions

This restaurant is located in a very nice area of Shelford. The servers are very friendly but the menu sizes are extremely misleading. We ended up spending over £195 pounds which was completely unjustified given the portion sizes. The dishes were barely enough to share, yet they were priced as if we were getting generous portions. It felt like we were being scammed rather than served a proper meal. One of the biggest shocks came when we ordered a bowl of rice for our table. Thinking it would be a standard, affordable addition to our meal, we didn’t think twice about it—until the bill arrived. They charged us an outrageous £45 for a single bowl of rice meant for 9 people! There was nothing special about it, just plain rice, yet they priced it like a luxury dish. In total, we spent over £195 on a small dinner for 8 people, and for that price, we expected generous portions and quality service. Instead, we got tiny dishes that barely fed the table and a bill that felt like daylight robbery.

Booked a table for nine friends on Sunday evening. Absolutely wonderful food and brilliant service. We ate from the 'pick and mix' menu, which gives you starters, followed by crispy duck/lamb with pancakes, then a wide choice of main courses. We were all fit to burst! My best advice if you eat this way is to order less than you are offered as the portions are extremely generous. If you run out of food, you will be offered more! Thanks to all the team. One of our all-time favourite Chinese restaurants, Forum House is consistently excellent with really great food. We're happy to drive the 20 minutes it takes us to get to Great Shelford to eat there. Our favourite dishes are the salt and pepper ribs and calamari starters. The salt and pepper aubergine is also addictively good, as is their garlic Pak Choi. We love this place and always choose it for family celebrations. Our meal on 1st August celebrating a 60th birthday was excellent from start to finish. One of our party of ten arrived late and the staff very kindly bought him a plate of starters to ensure he didn’t miss out. All the staff were lovely with our 17 month old granddaughter and the service was friendly and efficient. The food was superb as they use good quality ingredients and sitting at the big round table with a lazy Susan in the middle makes for such a sociable evening. Once we had finished our meal the staff appeared with a dessert for the birthday boy with a candle in it and joined in the singing! Can’t fault this place and we look forward to our next visit.

We were a party of 9 Celebrating a friends birthday. We found the starters and the crispy duck very tasty. For mains it was a different matter, the chicken was certainly not chicken,it didn’t look like chicken neither did it taste like chicken. For the price you pay surely the chicken dishes should contain chicken. We had two dishes that weren’t touched one due to the chicken problem and the other was a beef curry tasting very powdery. The curry was requested mild so I would imagine something was put in it to tone it down a bit. Drinks prices are a little inflated,£12.10 for Gin and Tonic ,a pint of Tiger was £9.00. Yes we should have complained at the time but didn’t want to put a dampener on the birthday evening.

Five of us started our meal at 6.30, had set menus with a few extra dishes but our desert wasn’t served until 10pm, so we left at 10.30. We booked very last minute on a Friday evening and obtained a table for 3. The service was faultless throughout. The vegetable lettuce wraps were uninteresting. The spare ribs were delicious. The 2 main course king prawn dishes tasted similar consisting of lots of vegetables in a glutinous sauce. The Singapore noodles were delicious unlike the aubergines which were slimy and undercooked. When we questioned the temperature of the seaweed the chef appeared and, curtly, replied that, if we wanted hot food, we ought to have specified that when ordering. Great ambiance and, with the exception of the chef, lovely staff. Disappointing food. We won't return.

Had a really bad experience I am afraid. We went with our 2.5yr old kid for a dinner. At the beginning kid shouted for once and she was sooshed by one of the staff out of the blue without parental consent which seemed unprofessional, obviously that ruined my kid’s mood. Anyhow, things were going well since then, started having appetizers. Kid started crying again, mum started calming, within a minute, 3 staff came round and asked us to calm her down(obviously that’s what we were doing). The next minute, the owner instructed his staff to ask us to leave the restaurant!! I called the owner to find out if any other table complained about us or not! The owner is equally arrogant and rude, saying this exact line ‘I would do the same thing again and again as we are a high end😂 restaurant’ Also he mentioned- ‘as long as I am alive, you are never welcome’ I don’t know if this actually is a high end restaurant or not, the menu did not really suggest this as high end fine dine!!

Staff were welcoming and accomodating of some of our party being a bit late. Our group travelled fair distances to come here to meet up, but was definitely a good choice. Parking is free and spacious in the car park nearby, which was important to us as we had 4 cars. Website needs some work (no online booking, placeholder text for the car park info), but that's the only small criticism I have. :)

Overpriced, quality of food not great. Probably wouldn’t bother visiting unless you live in walking distance. If you’re driving, drive to one of the many other Chinese food restaurants around. Our takeaway was cold, it was not quite what we expected flavour wise. The chicken balls were tiny, way overpriced & overcooked. The rice was cold, stone cold. The prices do not match the quality, only the location. When we ate in, it was fine, just fine, staff weren’t rude, but weren’t friendly and a bit too quick to clear away plates etc… (still had a mouthful) the food was at least warm then, we were also overcharged. Honestly I’d only go back because I can walk there. But it’s really not good quality.

The food was a huge disappointment, sadly. We travelled 25+ miles to lunch here based on the great reviews this restaurant has had. We ordered two of their most expensive dishes: the sizzling prawns in ginger and spring onion and the sizzling fillet steak in black pepper sauce, together with special rice. The 'fillet steak' dish had no discernible flavour and the 'steak' had a spongy mousse-like texture, perhaps a result of the use of a meat tenderising agent? The sizzling prawn dish was over-loaded with onion, hardly any ginger and the spring onion was just a few bits of leaf. The rice was bland, over-cooked, contained one shrimp, a lot of egg and some very dried out char siu pork. The portion size was meagre for £8.50. We asked for some soy sauce and chilli oil to punch some flavour into the dishes and were charged £2.00 for a tablespoon of the chilli oil! Nothing authentic about our food........ but the jasmine tea was lovely. We will not return and on the basis of our experience, we can not recommend lunchtime dining.

Seven of us went for the buffet style menu. There was quite a range of choices, and something for everyone. We didn't have to wait long for the appetisers. The presentation of the food was very good. We had various dishes such as spring rolls, prawn toast, sweet honey ribs etc. The main dish we chose was lamb and pancakes. It was all eaten. Following the lamb, we chose dishes such as beef noodles, egg fried rice, crispy beef. Although the food doesn't look much, it is quite filling. We all had a dessert each. I chose the frozen lemon dessert. Which was quite refreshing after the food. The quality of the food is fresh and much better than any takeaway in the area. The servers were very polite and friendly. Everything was 5 star at this restaurant, from the service to the food. Even the toilets were spotlessly clean. Price wise it's fairly expensive but for the quality and quantity its justifiable. 1st time we have visited these restaurant. We decided to go just out of the blue. And glad we did. We went on Sunday early evening and easy to park . We was warmly welcome as it had just opened. We was shown to several tables and we choose to sit near the window. It didn’t take long before people for there takeaways and for restaurant to fill up. So we ordered soft drinks. we opted for Mixed Hot Hors D'oeuvers for 2 sharing. And we was not disappointed, my wife choose Deep fried shredded beef in chilli sauce placed in 2 nests. ( that seemed like poppadoms) it was piping hot and light very tasty. I opted for King Prawns Peking style (ginger and garlic sauce) good amount of king Prawns. Now I've had quite of these dishes from various Chinese restaurants. But this was top light creamy with nice pieces of ginger! Bought out on hot sizzling pan. And we both share King prawn fried noodles. Again hot cook just right. as times you can taste that they have been burnt but not here. I finished off with banana fritters with honey and scoop of ice cream. The fritters were very hot with light batter lovely deserted to finish of lovely meal. Great service. With Excellent friendly staff. Would recommend and are go again.

Been here countless times. Food and service are great, but I didnt give them 5 stars because they recently started adding a service charge. I cant help but feel robbed whenever restaurants do this. And in addition, the waitress asked if i would like to leave a tip? So what was the service charge for??

You cannot go wrong with anything here. I cant have enough of their food. Try several dishes. They have take away service too. Parking is no problem in front of the restaurant. Don’t miss the excellent Chinese food. Highly recommended.

Excellent Chinese food - I last attended when restrictions were being relaxed. Excellent freshly made food on all-you-can-eat buffet menu. Excellent service and possibly the best Chinese restaurant around the Cambridge area!

We always eat here when staying in the area. It is the best chinese restaurant around. The staff are super helpful and the food is just so tasty. We had the set meal for 2. Wouldn't fault any of it. Couldn't eat it all so they were happy to box it up to takeaway. Can't recommend it enough. See you next year!

Visited Forum House on Saturday night rather than a weekday evening, every table was taken. Food and service remained an excellent standard even though they were so busy, well done to them.

Wonderful night this evening for valentine's day, the set menu was delicious and they made such a effort to make it special with decorations, and even a rose and heart balloon to take home. The staff were amazing, and let us stay and wait for our lift home.

We went for lunch and decided to have the house set menu (Classic - A) so we could try different dishes. This menu has a combination of starter and mains: - Starters - satay chicken, honey ribs, crispy seaweed, butterfly praws and spring rolls - Middle dish - aromatic crispy duck with panckackes, cucumber, spring onion and hoi sin sauce - Mains - Stir fried chicken with cashew nuts in yellow bean sauce, stir fried king prawns with mixed vegetables and sizzling beef with green pepper in black bean sauce. Served with special fried rice. For the money paid, the servings were enormous and made us feel full! All the dishes were super tasty, but our favourite was the sizzling beef dish, which can to the table..sizzling... and perfectly cooked with an amazing sauce. One of the best chinese resturants in the area, recommend!

Great family experience. We had the tasting menu for two adults, two teens and one child. They were all well catered for. We really enjoyed our eating experience. It was the first time they had had a Chinese tasting menu, so they tried things they had never tried before. It’s very spacious, the staff are very welcoming and look after your every need. Thanks

Not the spot if you're looking for specialty coffee, but I'm giving it 5 stars anyway because the ladies who work here are are so kind and friendly. They could improve by getting more freshly roasted coffee (roasted within the past two weeks), grinding it fresh, and extracting at 6 bar psi, 97°, weighing doses etc etc, but fundamentally this is a nice comfy community spot, that's the point, and it's lovely. Very relaxing and lots of good options for bacon related sandwiches. Very reasonably priced too! Warm and genuine folk.
