What a delight to discover this place by chance! So refreshing to have a good selection of gluten-free options, both sweet and savoury - thank you! Lovely atmosphere and much bigger than it looks from the outside, with more space further back and to the side as well as a delightful little garden. Only downside was having to pay 50p extra fro soya/oat milk - but still couldn't go down to 4 stars as everything else was so good.

Haven't been here for a while as the coffee wasn't good last time ...sadly nothing has changed on the coffee front..and now the prices have sky rocketed..I understand that theres cost issues for the whole of the hospitality trade but the price increases here are ridiculous...also chaotic service, staff unsure as to what they were doing..

Horrific grey, soaking wet gloomy day working in Neath when a colleague said to me - have you been to cafe 46? We braved the downpour and walked into the most deceiving (from the outside) gorgeously decorated, welcoming cafe. The music that was playing was Sinatra, Holiday, Simone and really added to the lovely feel and ambiance. if I wasn’t on my lunch break I could happily have sat there for the afternoon with a book! Lovely food and can’t wait to return ❤️

I visited the coffee shop for the first time in 2 years. I have fond memories of meeting up with friends in the early evening and really enjoying my time there. I decided to pat a visit with my daughter,.but sadly didn't feel the same warm atmosphere on this occasion. I must acknowledge that it is tough on cafe owners in the current climate, but just having a welcoming conversation or a.smile.would have been lovely. Other recent reviews also support my feeling of wanting to get money out of customers. I really am.sad.writing this review because the decor is just fabulous and the cafe itself has so.much potential.

I popped in for an hour waiting for an MOT nearby and had two coffees and something to eat. The coffee was AMAZING, unique and beautifully roasted. They don't offer wifi but the coffee was good enough I paid BT for their public access to do some work on my laptop. I did plug into the wall which after 30 minutes was politely told off for; too many people apparently park there for the day. Silently noting the empty tables and thirst for another coffee I politely unplugged. I wanted to stay longer, my wife was finishing up shopping and coming to meet me, and I wanted some beans, but felt a bit ushered on so we went up the road for somewhere more inclusive.

Imagine this. A Mother with a young child upstairs on her own in a Café. The child has a biscuit to pacify him while the father is in the que downstairs buying food and drink for them all and the grandmothers who will be arriving shortly. Meanwhile, the owner of the café approaches the other and proceeds to shout at her while the traumatized child on looks, for giving him a biscuit not purchased there. The husband after receiving txts and calls while in the que finds the mother in tears and the child silent in shock and bewildered. Who does this? The answer: The owners of Café 46. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING BEHAVIOUR. NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY. Owner later apologized to the father but not the mother. Shame. It was a lovely unique café.

Great spot for a coffee and a chat or a bite to eat. Our paninis were fresh, tasty and delivered quickly. Eating in such close proximity to witches and wizards can be a bit daunting for muggles but we survived and will return to sample the tempting cakes on offer!

This place used to be the best in town.. the coffee was great, the food good. But of late standards have really dropped. Don't know what's happened but the last couple of times I've been there the coffee hasn't been right....I don't know if they have changed anything but it's really not agreed with me.. and it's not just me a family member has said the same...also the lady who runs the place can be rude...I know it gets busy in there but there's no need to be rude to the customers..

One of the best atmospheres of any coffee shop, myself and family members have been regulars for a few years, and now I live away from Neath, 46 is something to look forward to. It can get a bit packed when they don't open the upstairs section as today proved when we couldn't get a seat. But it is a lovely place for a hot drink, the Sandwiches and cold drinks are a bit pricey but it's certainly a jewel in the crown of Neath.

Found this fabulous coffee shop on a recent visit to Neath. Lovely quirky place with such lovely staff. Service was very quick and came with a smile. We only had cakes and coffee so can’t comment on the rest of their offerings but judging by the amount of people in there who are repeats customers I would say it’s all great. Variety of cakes which are all so fresh and delicious. Would highly recommend seeking out this gem if you are in the area.

We were passing through Neath and liked the look of this place, so popped in for cake and coffee. We had no idea it was going to be Harry Potter themed. What a great idea! The inside was pretty busy for a Tuesday I thought, so we opted to sit in the garden at the back. Very quirky, including the staff, who were abrupt and unfriendly, but very efficient. Our order came quickly and everything was decent quality, though unexceptional. As cafes go, I'd say this is pretty average in terms of what's on offer, but above average in terms of its decor, efficiency of service, and cleanliness. Worth a visit for sure.

The owners attitude absolutely stinks and I’m not the first to have noticed. I’ve had many of my friends telling me about bad experiences they’ve had at 46 and how the owners attitude never seems to be pleasant. You’d expect high standards from the high prices, unfortunately that’s not the case. Such a shame as has so much potential to be a lovely cafe, the owner and some staff put it down. GET NEW OWNER! Or try and learn some human decency and actually SMLE and be KIND.

I wasn’t going to write a review at first because I’m not the type of person who enjoys upsetting people. However, my recent visit to cafe 46 has left me baffled. My husband and I decided to get lunch there for my 56th birthday, due to their lovely vintage decor. But I’m afraid it’s the only thing going for this place. The attitude from not only the staff but the manager is unacceptable! They were extremely rude to my husband and I when we asked to not be seated at the low tables due to my husbands back problems. There were many empty tables, so I’m still confused as to why they wouldn’t let us move. I’m very disappointed by this experience. Many other things happened in that restaurant that are too long to explain. But just know this, I will never go there again, or recommend you to go there. The manager is one of the rudest people I have ever met. Get new manager and staff!

Staff are so rude, especially the owner, very disappointing. The owner made me feel very uncomfortable, she is very rude, I know many others who have had very unpleasant experiences there due to the staffs attitudes (mainly the owners, but staff also) considering the high prices you’d expect high quality service, or at least a level of common decency. So disappointing, such a lovely cafe as well, get new staff (including owner).

It's great to see No. 46 re-opening since lockdown relaxed, however, not all is going well!COVID-10 precautions: Making an effort but must do better. Personal track and trace information for customers is written on an sheet of paper that anyone can read, (against data protection act regulations). If one customer comes in with COVID, everyone will catch it off the communal pen. Get staff to write it down discreetly. Social distancing, sanitiser, table service, (all good) then we have the owner who is wandering around the building coughing over customers and taking his mask off to do it??!!Coffee: Used to be the best in Neath but now quality is all over the place. My most recent coffee was absolutely appalling, bitter and sour at the same time. This is the bedrock of your business, if you can't get this right you're going to haemorrhage custom.Wi-Fi: Come on guys, it's the 21st Century. Every other (decent) coffee house offers Wi-Fi, it's what customers EXPECT. You are the most expensive coffee in Neath. Time to modernise! By resisting requests to put Wi-Fi in you're just signalling your contempt for your customers.I'm giving you a kicking on this rating as you deserve it. Future ratings will drop at least 2 points until there's Wi-Fi in place. My visit to this establishment was informed by the displayed optimum food hygiene rating of 5/5, (Very Good).

Myself and my friends visited fortysix for our monthly catch up after reading fantastic reviews on here , to say we were disappointed is an understatement ! The decor of the cafe is quirky and that’s the best thing I have to say about the place ! The staff need to learn customer service skills , they are so rude !! We actually felt like we were putting on them by just asking for basic things like sugar etc also can I add - a smile doesn’t cost anything, not one member of staff cracked a smile. The food was bog standard !! The jacket potatoes were crunchy !! It’s a pity really because their set up is great and the Harry Potter theme is a great idea.

I was hear to meet a friend for lunch, and the service and food was really great. You get a good welcome here from the staff, and they're always happy to help. I am really disappointed by the attitude of the lady manager. This was my favourite coffee shop in town, when it first opened it had such a lovely atmosphere. It has since become the place to be, very busy and noisy. On my recent visit, the manager was rude to my mother, when my daughter was eating food from a pasty shop. Fair enough, i totally understand no other food should be consumed. But I dont appreciate my mother and daughter to be so sternly reprimanded, especially when I had been in the queue for 20 minutes waiting to purchase the obscenely priced hot drink and cakes. I have been there enough times and spent enough money to be more appreciated. Its not like we brought in a picnic. I had witnessed the managers harsh tongue on a previous occasion. Maybe a quick course on customer service might come in handy? The employed staff however are wonderful. I wont be returning, i'll go where we arent spoken to like naughty children.

We've been going to Fortysix for several months, really good each time. Lovely staff, always helpful, friendly and attentive. Always somewhere comfortable to sit and there's never a rush. The food is really nice, recommend the soup......seriously lush!!! They also come up with novel ideas, for example, special dishes when the Lions Tour was underway. Everywhere is clean, tables are quickly cleared and the food is brought to you within minutes. The location is ideal, being right opposite Victoria Gardens.I've only met Victor Meldrew in there once, the occasion when I was reading the paper he simply had to have there and then.......he had his way, life is far, far too short!!!!Why are we advocates? Simple, for the reasons mentioned above and it just works. No need to change although Neath has an increasing number of options these days. The many times I've been there with my eldest son and daughter have been great......we were there yesterday and will be back again early next week. Looking forward.Thank you to the team at Fortysix, you're awesome!!!

Go here quite often. Coffee always good, nice atmosphere. Rolls, paninis etc. A good vegan menu but not a lot for people watching their weight. Very nice place.

The decor is right up our street, vintage with a quirky twist. Lovely coffee and a slice of cake. Only problem was deciding which to have. Which means I have another excuse to pop in next time we are in Neath. Great that they also stock Mr Nice Pie vegan pies. They are delicious whether you're a meat eater or not. A great place to meet friends or sit and chill with a paper. Wish they were in Port Talbot.

Coffee, cake, friendly staff smiles and fabulous oldy woldy decor, what more can you ask for?their soup (italian tomato) is to die for, every time we visit my partner has this soup and has never complained once, he now makes us go their at lunch time for coffee so he could have the soup, even though we have been there in the morning or afternoon!!we took my sister and her husband there last week for the first time, (they were visiting here from scotland), and they couldnt believe the vast amount of old, antique decor, the ambience and the staff was the best place they had visited and asked to visit each day they were here, so they could get the experience before going home. best place in town.

So far I've only had a coffee here with my mother, but what a wonderful place to stop and relax. A very eclectic mix of 'stuff' all around you, lots of it for sale, lends to a very cozy, warm, feel. The staff working there are very friendly and helpful, giving me extra warm milk for my coffee when I asked for it. I love places like this instead of the cold, minimalistic cafes. I even complimented one of the waitresses on the ladies toilet, which was very nice. It's not often you get a toilet that clean and well decorated. I will definitely go there again. Not sure if it would be suitable for large groups due to the size of the café, but for a couple to a few friends, it's ideal. Didn't have any food there, but what was on show looked and sounded really nice, maybe I'll try some next time I go :)

We love coming here, it's like a little idyl in the middle of town. A huge variety of cakes with great gluten free selections. The drinks are wonderful. The service I've had every single time is impeccable. I will always return here.

Have visited here many times and had consistently good and friendly service and quality beverages here. Would recommend this independently run establishment over the nationals every time.

An absolute must if you visit Neath it really is a hidden gem.Visited today and tried the festive latte with a turkey and cranberry panini, they were both excellent and only notice the spiced pumpkin latte as we were leaving so I will be back.

We came to The Refreshment Rooms with a large group of friends (pre-booked) and were allocated our own room. The decor and atmosphere is so authentic, the staff were friendly and helpful, the coffee was excellent and we are determined to return, next time for a meal as the food smelt divine.

Was out early in Port Talbot and needed somewhere for breakfast. Read some good reviews here and went along. What an absolute delight. A genuine local restaurant rum by the very pleasant owners. No frills but a great value for money breakfast. I had the full breakfast, my wife had the veggie avocado one. Both very good hot and freshly cooked. Had seen a few posts complaining about the coffee. Well it might not be the very best I've had but it was perfectly OK for the price paid. If your passing through on the motorway I really would recommend this little family run gem over the big chains, it beats them hands sown for authenticity, friendliness and value.
