Fortune Express in Islington

I have been coming here for years. I always come back for their egg fried rice. Recently have also been enjoying their gyozas and dumplings.

Mushy rice anyone? Yes, mushy fried rice. This is literally the first time I have ever had mushy rice from a Chinese restaurant. I eventually had to toss the rice away as it was a tasteless as it was mushy. I ordered from this restaurant via Deliveroo based on the above-mentioned 4.5 star rating and obviously it was a disappointment. I have to say that I'm inclined to doubt Deliveroo's ratings system moving forward.

They have the WORST customer service i have ever encountered!! Not only did they get my order wrong (which i still paid for)?When I rang the following week and politly reminded them about their mistake! i get a phone call back from the owner and she said "We will no longer cook for you" and then slams the phone down??? I would like to add i have been a loyal customer for the oast 6 years! SOOOOOOOOO, on that note i give you the worlds rudest Takeaway......

Undercooked, off food. Chicken was fatty and grisley and had seen better days. Prawn toast was chewy and raw. Egg rice tasted off, rice was clumped together, definitely re cooked. Blocks of raw onions in the chicken curry, just chucked in there. I believe Fortune Express are selling expired undercooked food. The customer service was also atrocious! Absolutely no apology or sympathy at all, simply got shouted at saying I am wrong and how it is impossible for the food to be bad. Needs to be shut down before they make someone seriously sick!

The other reviews are all bang on! They cancelled my order without any explanation and then when I phoned to find out what was going on they said they were too busy to talk to me and hung up. I spent over £40 and had been waiting over an hour. DON'T ORDER FROM HERE!

This review is late due to some circumstances but it was still easy to remeber how different the takeaway was. The old owners were generally really nice people and always chatted with me after work. Now i went to a different takeaway after a new owner came and now the place was just gloomy and all. Whats more, is that the food was a lot more different and generally bad at some points. Some were nice but it really wasn't worth coming here anymore

I would give this place zero stars if I could! Disgusting food and disgusting service! I called to say my order was all wrong and when I rang to complain, and explain how my son who has severe autism and learning difficulties couldn’t eat the food that was sent as it wasn’t what I ordered and didn’t look the same as it usually does,I then went on to tell him how he got most my order wrong too....I then got called a “liar “and a “stupid f@😳King b*^•ch” cos his child also has severe autism too, I mean what that has to do with calling me that, I don’t know! But.. if that is the case then surely you should be a bit more understanding as to how something so simple can be a really big deal for people with autism!! Which obviously lead me to be more aggressive back! I wasn’t in the best moods in the 1st place as my order was wrong, And I definitely don’t like being called a liar and to top it off Every time I tried to speak, he shouted over me! Usually getting a takeaway means a nice chilled night is in store, nope, just sitting here now, hours later still in shock as to the way I was treated and spoken too! Completely ruined my dinner and my evening! The manager clearly has no clue as to what he’s doing! He’s taken on more than he can handle with this restaurant by the sounds of things, He’s is very rude and aggressive! Do not order from here ! It’s been taken over by new management in the past four months! and they don’t think to inform you of this when you order!!! And they’ve had the cheek change the recipe and keep the same name! Their food is no way on the same level as it was before! A real shame in my opinion! It used to be the best Chinese in town!! Now it’s gone to pot!!!!’ So Be warned!!!!’ And as looking at the rest of the reviews in the past 4 months, I’m not only one who’s had a bad experience from this bunch of cowboys!!

We placed a telephone order explaining that there were some special requirements which we were assured could be fulfilled. The price we were told was different (more expensive) that on the menu. The delivery driver came and for some strange reason pressed my door bell 8 times which woke my 3 year old son in a panic. It took me 40 minutes to calm my son who thought some sort of alarm was going off. I came downstairs and looked in the bag to see NONE of the special requirements were fulfilled. We are all vegan and the Tofu smelled like fish and when we cut into it, it had been put in the sauce raw as you can see from the picture. I phoned up and was verbally abused by a woman pertaining to be the manager. I firmly stated I want a refund and for them to come and collect the food I was invited into the shop for a fight and to deal with “head office”. I have never in my life been so insulted. These people are unstable. They are thief’s and the whole place needs shutting down. Do yourself a favour and get food from somewhere else.

I used to eat here at least once a week. The menu was simple and traditional. New owners . Claims that no MSG being used seems to be their major new selling point. All they have done is over complicated the menu and whacked a couple of quid in every dish. Do one

This was my local Chinese and it was great good food at a great price. It’s just got new owners the food is insipid and bland and very expensive I used to be a regular tonight was my last visit very disappointed. Don’t waste your money go somewhere better

Have had a few take aways from here and the food is tasty and well prepared. One of the better Chinese take aways in the area.

I usually order from here and they get the order wrong every time, but today they were absolutely rude. So we order alot of food and as of recent the food is burnt alot of the time, so I call in after placing an online order just to reiterate what I request, I always add in there please do not burn the food. So tonight they burnt the pad Thai and the chow main, I called up only to be shouted at and to be told the "chef" won't change it, I was not pleased so spoke strictly and firmly, stating I called up just to tell you not to burn the food and you tell me that this is how it comes? Then only to be told not to shout! I said this is unacceptable and you are meant to have a service, this service is not good and you are refusing to change or refund the order, she then argued with "the chef" and came back and said she would send another batch bit I must return the dishes to exchange I said I would as we won't eat burnt food. So the driver arrived very apologetic and I showed him the food and he also agreed it was burnt. So never ordering from this place again, been using this takeaway for 10 years spending a minimum of £40 each time.

Ordered a set meal b tonight which cost £25 for 2. Absolutely disgusting worst Chinese I've ever tasted the whole lot went in the bin. Not one nice dish in the whole set meal. Cheap rubbery chewy fatty meat.

Delivery arrived but the lemon sauce pot for the chicken had been put in upside down and leaked everywhere. Couldn't eat the chicken as its very dry without sauce. Called the restaurant for a new pot and was assured they would send it straight out. After still not arriving for 40 minutes I called them and they said it was on its way. After another 25 minutes of no show we called again and said don't bother and we will have a refund on the chicken. Food had gone cold and went to waste. Unacceptable that it wasn't the first thing sent out when they had made the mistake. Will not order from here again.

Great! Chicken satay was really good quality and plentiful, it's often disappointing from takeaways. Stir fried broccoli in garlic was delicious and crunchy. Salt and pepper chicken was great, large crispy chunks with lots of garlic. Mushroom curry and chow mein also excellent. Topped off with free prawn crackers and a friendly delivery driver. Keep it up!

The set meal for two was huge, had lots of food left over, but delicious, food was ready slightly earlier than said which was good and we got free duck rolls :)

Decent quality food :D the chicken satay was great, beef in black bean sauce, good Singapore noodles, and all delivered in less than half an hour! Will order from them again.

Delighted with the food and service from this restaurant. That was the nicest spring roll I've ever had, and I've eaten a lot in my time! Food arrived within 20 minutes, I was so impressed. The delivery driver was lovely too. I shall be ordering again. I really appreciate that there's no minimum order cost, as I live alone and have no need to order extra items to cover the ever escalating costs from other restaurants. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for the meal ! Got a late Sunday dinner from Fortune Express. Pipping hot food, big descent portions, free prawn crackers and a delivery 30 min. earlier than expected. Plus the delivery guy was pleasant with a sense of humor, what more can i ask for?

Specifically told them to put no veg in sweet and sour prawns as there is hardly any sauce to put on the rice, the took the veg out but again hardly no sauce to the point some of the king prawns were still dry not covered in sauce... so disappointed

Having ordered from here numerous times before and food was always great quality. However, this time I ordered beef fried rice which came full of large chunks of egg and peas (same as special fried rice). I've had this numerous times before and it has only been rice with beef. We phoned the restaurant and they said they could get us another rice and beef but we would need to pay for delivery again!!! Disappointing service and food went straight in the bin because obviously they had left over rice with egg and threw in some beef. I've never written a negative review before and I'm just disappointment in their attitude and service. Avoid if you actually want to eat what you ordered!

The meal was alright but there was too much rice and not enough sweet and sour, i though the rice was plain boiled rice but it came with soy sauce on it when i would have prefered plain rice, furthermore the chicken spring rolls tasted too salty.

Been ordering from Fortune express since 2015 and saw today when I made my order that it was under new ownership. Was a little wary as when my last local Chinese went under new ownership, the food quality and taste went downhill. However when the food arrived today, was happy to say the it still tasted as good as always, was expecting some changes to the taste/ menu, (it being under new ownership and all), but did not really notice any differences. Will definitely be ordering again.

Food arrived really quickly. Ingredients were fresh. I like beansprouts and garden peas but it would have been nice to have had a better variety of vegetables in the dishes.

Food is too salty, stodgy and overpriced. I honestly could have made better myself. The delivery guy also did not pay attention to my request of not ringing the buzzer, hence waking my sleeping child. Avoid avoid avoid.

We indicated we wanted our food at 6:40pm instead it arrived at 6:10pm, someone called on mobile to say order was outside. I normally leave phone on silent and wouldn't have seen call. They could have rang the bell, the chill beef was in edible and a waste of money.

Delivery took an hour and a half, as apparently the order was damaged and they had to replace it. Then when the food did arrive the driver demanded that we pay, even though I'd already paid by card online. Finally the food was below average. Very greasy noodles, and generally tasteless. Never ordering from here again

Food was average at best. Delivery turned up 45mins later than we were told it would. Called restaurant who were non apologetic and said we were not the only ones to complain that night. Said they would call driver and let us know which they didn't. Driver didn't say a word just handed bag over, no hello etc.

Best Chinese I've had in a while

The food was delicious and arrived very quickly. Great to find a Chinese that doesn't disappoint! I would definitely recommend this place.

Duck wasn't cooked properly and was just so greasy.

Food was tasty as always but I ordered a large beef chow mein and got delivered a regular size one. I didn't bother chasing up the mistake because the rest of my food would have been cold by the time a swap would have happened. But this is the only time I have had any trouble after over a year of use.

I asked my meal to be cooked without onions... I received my food with onions. I asked for cutlery, but when I got my order there was not cutlery there. They ignored everything what I asked

Terrible food! The rice was greasy and brown, the chinese style chicken sauce was watery, as was the sweet and sour sauce and neither of them tasted anything like I have had from previous Chinese takeaways. The delivery time was spot on though.
