After visiting before, we thought a return visit was what was needed after a lovely woodland walk. We love the quirky interior with the log burner and the general feel of the place is great, however, the service was very slow, we received our drinks after a long wait. Our toasties then arrived, by which time our drinks were finished, one of our party ordered soup which didn't arrive till we were almost finished and it was the smallest serving I've ever seen, half a soup mug. I had a quarter of my toastie left when the waitress appeared stating that she'd forgot to put the brie in, she had a lump of melted brie on a plate, not sure what she wanted me to do with it, having almost finished. All in all quite a disappointing visit, certainly nothing like our last one 😕

The cafe is tucked away in a great location for walks in this area. The outside is a nice place to sit. Was really disappointing to see the hen area at the back which held one male hen in a dirty area, ground completely covered in broken egg shells and all alone which was incredibly sad to see. The amazing peacocks area also desperate for some attention and potentially increasing their area for enrichment

This charming independent spot is a must-visit for locals looking to support a quality establishment. In my opinion, it's far superior to the pub down the road. The only minor drawback, which is beyond their control, is parking—though I've never had an issue, it can be tricky, so keep that in mind. The cozy fireplace makes it a perfect retreat in the cold, and on sunny days, you can enjoy the outdoor seating with a view of the lovely two peacocks around the back. While I haven’t yet tried their Sunday roast, it always smells incredible. The food is delicious, offering a selection of toasties and burgers. The ice cream is especially delightful, so I highly recommend saving room for that if you can. The drinks are generally good, though I’d skip the orange juice as it comes in a small carton. Otherwise, the selection is fine. Overall, the staff, quality, price, and atmosphere make this a place worth supporting.

staff appalling! visited last sunday, waited 20 mins for my coffee.. when asked where my coffee was they replied that it will be 2 minutes. Again waited over 10 minutes still no drink.asked again where my drink was? The reply was the drinks go in order. Even though the table next to me had just got served after only being there a short time. What a waste of a Sunday afternoon. We won't be returning

Lovely rustic cafe in the woods-with a really nice relaxed vibe, just around the corner from entrance to castle Coch. Great if out with your dog- lots of surrounding walks & plenty of outdoor seating. There is also a small carpark next to the cafe. Very poor service from start to finish. This place should be thriving due to its picturesque location however this couldn't be further from truth. Table service apparently! We went in twice to see if we could order before walking away. We then managed to order after 30mins of waiting, witnessing multiple families walking away with a loss of trade. Order was then wrong, highlighting to the staff n allergy. Come on guy's sort it out.

A lovely locally run cafe that was the perfect dog friendly pit stop after a walk around the woods. We just had some chips and coffee/tea. The chips were good, the coffee tasted like machine coffee but was fine, and my partner had a slice of cake which he said was really nice and home made. Very much appreciated the doggy ice cream! So reasonably priced too and the place was full of other walkers and families stopping for lunch.

Been coming back and fore for a few years now. For a quick bite and a warm drink when out walking the forests that surround the area then you cannot fault forest cafe. Plenty of choice if you want something more substantial. Food is basic but scrumptious, and served with a smile. A top class restaurant they don't claim to be, but for the clientele that one would expect in an area renowned for its walking routes it's perfect. Kids love it too, the peacock and fish on-site ensure they'll want to come back. If you are a Coeliac let the staff know and they'll do all they can to help you. Serve Joe's Ice-cresm too ... Hmm👍😀

Thought I’d try this little place and I found it a nice change. Ok it has a lot more to offer than what I could try out being disabled but there’s was plenty of people using the trails around the cafe. Cafe itself had a pleasant feel inside and the food was pretty nice, not a bad choice either. They also do a Sunday roast but you’d better book that. There it’s also seating outside in direct sunlight or under a canopy of trees with a peacock in view. One to use when you want piece from people you see all the time.

Visited as a break stop while travelling along M4. Parking is very limited. Not very welcoming. Ordered coffee, cake and sausage baps. Service was slow. Coffee was OK. Cake was not fresh and tasted highly processed. The bap in which the sausage was served was nice but the sausage was the lowest quality. The cafe was untidy, cluttered and not clean. The toilet had no hot water, no hand towel. Also fairly expensive. Not recommended.

This place used to be so much more than the shell of what it is now. The coffee used to be the best or atleast one of the best in Cardiff, wheras now its watery, cheap, bland and weak! The breakfast also used to be much better but now the ingredients are the cheapest you can find, especially the chip shop sausages. The building itself is starting to feel rundown, dirty and in need of a lot of TLC I.e. the toilet had a hand towel that was stiff with dirt and clearly hadn't been washed or changed in days if not weeks. The service we had from the middle aged lady who wears glasses was really poor. When we arrived we asked her if they were open, as the door was closed, no customers were there and there was no sign saying open, the response we had was "I hope so"... OK I let that one slide as maybe she thought she was being funny but it came across as belittling and passive aggressive. Next when we were in the middle of ordering our food her poor etiquette showed again. I was with my wife and 2 year old son, I ordered a breakfast and coffee for myself and my wife ordered a sausage, bacon and egg roll... she didn't wait for us to order something for our son and when I said "sorry can I also get a beans on toast" we had a huge sigh and an eye roll. You just can't behave like that when serving the public. Finally as we went to drive away from the car park she came running out shouting "have you paid" which disgusted my wife! My wife bit her tongue and politely replied "yes I paid the lady with the blonde hair" (who by the way was lovely) Why she didn't check with the other staff member first before running out causing a commotion and embarrassment for us as a family I don't know. All I can say is she had the worst people skills I've witnessed in a very long time. I'm Autistic myself and things like this make me feel way too uncomfortable. Alas my family and I will sadly never be able to return as a result of poor service and inferior ingredients. It's a dark shadow of its former self.

This quirky little cafe is great - roaring fire when it's cold, lots of seating (some inside, some outside and some in-between), and simple but tasty food. We like to visit after we've been walking around Castell Coch, the Sculpture Trail or Fforest Fawr. Love this little spot. Hidden away from the main road, you'd hardly know it's there - the Forest Cafe definitely feels like a "local knowledge" kind of place. Rustic, a little quirky and far more in tune with its surroundings than any chain cafe/coffee shop, this is mainly going to be serving those with a love of the outdoors. I stopped by for breakfast - the coffee was lovely and the sausage bap was alright... But I'm really not sure the salted crisps and sorry-looking salad served with said sausage bap were a wise idea. Bit of a rethink needed there. On a sunny enough day, make sure you check around the back of the place to enjoy your coffee under the forest trees...

Starters were lovely but the main wasn't pleasant. It wasn't made clear to us when ordering that the broth was creamy, as we don't like creamy food. I thought it would be more of a clear broth. The bowls and drinking stein mugs were chipped. I explained at the end that we were dissatisfied with our food and they did offer another meal which we didn't want as we were put off with the previous dish, no discount was offered until I asked in which they took £20 off the bill.
