The Flute and Tankard is the hidden gem of the Cardiff pub scene. Always a warm welcome from the amazing owners. The selection of beers are always fantastic. Wonderfully kept and carefully curated. If you're unsure what to try the advice available is always on point. Up stairs you will often find great jazz and comedy. Highly recommended .

Wouldn't bother. Despite being "dog friendly" the half empty pub was too busy to allow a small poodle in. Go somewhere else where your custom is more appreciated.

Came here on a tip for the best Guinness in Cardiff. Can confirm it is the best, with no competition. Beautiful pint and served with a smile. Guinness aside there’s a lovely selection here and something for everyone, with a lot of local drops. Definitely worth a visit!

I went for a Jazz evening, and the entertainment was great. BUT The seats were not just uncomfortable; they were downright painful. I've never experienced such discomfort in any other event. It significantly detracted from the otherwise enjoyable evening. The toilets were disgusting, smelling like a urinal at a train station that was last cleaned a decade ago. This was the ladies, so I didn’t want to know what the mess smelled like. The whole place needed a deep clean with disinfectant. I felt I would have been cleaner and better off doing it outside.

Misogynist “Landlord” - dictates who he lets in due to image , all based on appearance, which is comical due to there only being 3 other people inside. Wouldn’t recommend if you’re female, young and not willing to conform. Would rate lower than a one if possible. Female barmaid nice though :) x

A real, Real Ale place with great staff and beers. Very cosy and welcoming. A place to meet and chat or enjoy a beer on your own without a loud crowd. There are plenty other places for that. I visited a couple of times during a brief visit to Cardiff. I'd love to return.

Good selection of beers and a perfect pint of Guinness. I do have to agree with another review though the place does smell a bit.

Brilliant. Andy and Dave are the best hosts I've met. They don't stand any nonsense, and they keep excellent beer. Thoroughly recommended. Usually 5 real ales on and a really friendly atmosphere. Quiet times are Sunday evenings and Monday evenings. No change since my last report. It's just as good if not better! February 2024. Usually closed on rugby days. No food served despite what google thinks. Gradual improvements in seating arrangements happen from time to time, the latest being the 1950's style bench seat against the rear side wall as seen in 1950's ice cream parlours. There is also a good range of low or no alcohol ale in bottles, as I found out recently when I was on course of antibiotics.

Absolutely outstanding pint of Guinness and a great little pub tucked away just off Windsor Place. Definitely worth seeking out if you're a fan of the black stuff

Not my usual place, it was clean but had a strange smell. Always wanted to give it a try. Had a jazz band that night. Not my thing but might be yours if you're looking for a cozy eclectic setting hidden in a side street in the city centre!

Good range of ales. You could find something special from Belgium as well.

When on a summer's evening you can hear jazz or Spanish folk music emanating from the windows upstairs, how could you not come in and have a pint or three? Even year round, at least a couple days out of the week, there is some live music event upstairs. Comedy shows happen about once a month as well. The seating outside is great for people watching and it's nice and cozy inside too. Great selection of beers ales and ciders, good variety of packaged snacks, friendly bar service, and the place is always kept clean and tidy. The owners really know what they're doing. To me it's the best pub to go to in Cardiff city centre.

This place is amazing....the 2 bartenders are amazing and warm and friendly...the range of cider is amazing..the local people inside are warm. I would go here weekly if I lived in Cardiff

If you want quiet and quirky, this is the place. Not been updated. I suspect for many years, but no music, just people chatting away. A quiet gem away from the noise and drama of Cardiff.

What a great find!! I went here on Monday 29 Jan for a comedy night, it has a great space on the first floor for gigs and comedy nights. The selection of beers and ciders was excellent! However the shining light of this pub was the range of snacks available!! I genuinely can't remember the last time I had scampi fries, bacon fries and pork scratchings it was fantastic! This place is a must visit for the atmosphere selection of drinks and of course the snacks!!!!

Great little local-style pub but in the centre of Cardiff City. Good range of lagers and beers, but the best bit is they host a comedy night upstairs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Check it out

What a great pub. Fantastic range of cask ales which change regularly. Similarly with the keg ales, lagers and ciders. Also a great range of bag in box ciders. Cozy, friendly and welcoming

A proper pub! With live jazz on Tuesdays and Wednesdays most weeks. That and real ale at student prices, no excuse not to visit. They are a pub so they don't serve food. Loads of other events happen here like Galician evenings once a month plus a couple of comedy club evenings in a month and a book writers club too. There is also a folk club style jam session on a Sunday evening for free. A place to meet up with friends, too. No food served here, despite other comments on Google suggesting there maybe, also evidenced by people turning up instead of the restaurant next door! Plenty of snacks here though!

Amazing pub to spend an evening, cozy atmosphere, varied selection of beers changing often, jazz nights on Tuesday and Wednesdays. Would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet pint.

A great little pub with occasional music nights wafting great sounds down from the function room above. This is one of the rare and dying breed of good old pubs, and Andy & Dave keep a good turnover of interesting beers.

I visited this really good Cardiff real ale pub on Friday 8th October 2021 This real ale pub has everything going for it really good staff telly good old interior with good clientelllle and above all a good choice of well kept real ales 10 out of 10 Monday 11 September 2023 To-night this pub was again visited This pub still is a lovely little oasis to drink well kept hand pumped ales in a peacefull lovely enviroment The landlord was in the pub tonight he was a grand fellow that when it comes to keeping good real ales he knows his onions, so to speak or better said when in Wales, his Leeks👍😁

A great time capsule of a traditional pub that has somehow survived in Cardiff city centre. Excellent beer, and we enjoyed the fantastic Bluesters playing a jazz oriented set for the regular blues club. Close to Queen Street station and finished in time for the last train home.

We popped in for a quick drink and spent quite a few hours here. The staff were very friendly and helpful and they had gluten free IPA which made my call night. I really do suggest you call in, its so relaxed and not full of young idiots drinking.

Best wet‐led pub in the centre of Cardiff. A great range of ales in several styles for all tastes and a surprising range of real ciders from further afield. The landlord Andy is a well known Cardiff publican who used to run The Rummer Tavern among others.

Fantastic place for cask ale. Totally unassuming outside, inside there is a range of usually local beers and in my experience always in spanking condition. Way the best place for quality cask ale in Central Cardiff.

Amazing little pub, tucked away off of Queen Street. The staff are always friendly, and the selection of real ales is great, generally 4/5 every time I have been, and all top quality. I've not had a bad pint here so far 😃

Proper old school service, offered a jug or straight glass for a good ale, as it should be. My choices were JD Weatherspoon, opposite or here, i made the right choice by far. Excellent independent, we should support more. Would highly recommend, easy 5 star.

One of the best pubs in Cardiff (IMO). Always a great pint, welcoming, helpful and friendly staff and a decent bunch of regulars and locals. No TVs or pipped music so really good for a place to meet friends for a chat and catch-up. 👍

Brilliant place to drink. It's cheap, the staff are very friendly, they are great at social distancing rules, and it's also very gay friendly, which my partner and I love. Not only that, it still has that traditional pub vibe!
