Fjara Cafe Bar in Shetland Islands

Our holiday hosts recommended this place and it certainly lived up to our expectations. Lovely coffee, nice pancakes and a great ambiance contributed to by the friendly, hard working staff. The toilets too wee spotlessly clean.....a great experience from start to finish.

Visiting area thought we would pop in for lunch on arrival no sign saying wait to be seated greeted by a rude member of staff told to wait in corner like a naughty pair of schoolkids 10 mins later yes you can now have this seat next to the open door we promptly left 😉

Excellent setting, good amount of seats. The menu is ok, though it doesn’t change much throughout the year but it has the best coffee in town and the tabnabs are yummy. My only grumble is I want to see the tables being cleaned after use with an actual cleaning product not a sad looking cloth. Haven’t we learned anything from covid in the spread of germs, plus it’s a restaurant this should be a given.

Firstly the restaurant commands amazing views over the bay, with outside seating if desired. I opted for the triple chocolate cake and cappuccino. The coffee was very good but the cake was simply next level. It has to be up there with one of my favourite of all time. The service is good and the staff very polite.

Oh my god you are doing everything so right, the service and the food were sublime, we all had different food including steak, salmon and lamb and it was superbly cooked, everything cooked to order and no waiting time.will definitely be back and recommending you to everyone who will listen 💚💚💚

Used to be the best breakfast on the island until removed black pudding hash browns and mushrooms from full breakfast it’s like serving fish n chips without the fish don’t change something that was your best sell still good but not what you want when you order a FULL breakfast

Lovely coffee and cake with sea views. We also enjoyed a lovely meal there and the staff were very accommodating regarding my wife’s food allergies.

First class. Super friendly and helpful staff. We had all sorts of food allergies in our group and all of them were accommodated without any fuss. The food was fantastic and reasonably priced. There’s a great ambience and a terrific view.

Came here twice during my four-night stay in Lerwick. The service is excellent and the place has a lovely atmosphere with beautiful views. The food is very tasty and portions are generous. Had the Shetland salmon the first time and the bean patty the second time.

We had the steak and the salmon and they were delicious. Best meal I've had on Shetland so far, in fact best meal I've had out for a while! We were early for our reservation but the busy staff were very welcoming. I had an iced chai latte instead of dessert which was delicious. If.i could give six stars I would!

This is the place to go in Lerwick! Had a delicious breakfast on Saturday and a devine dinner tonight. Fabulous food, fine wine and excellent service in a beautiful location overlooking Breiwick Bay. Highly recommend!

Wir haben Online reserviert, aber keine Bestätigung bekommen. Eine eMail-Anfrage blieb unbeantwortet. Wir sind auf den gebuchten Termin hin und es hatte gerade noch einen 2er Tisch (Zufall oder Reserviert?). Das Essen hnd die Getränke wurden aufgenommen und das Essen kam schnell. Auf die Frage wo die Getränke sind gabs eine unfreundliche Antwort in der Art, sie seien in der Warteschlange. Erstaunlicherweise gibt es auch eine Expressline, den die Tische nach uns bekamen die Getränke nach 5 Minuten. Beim nochmaliges Nachfragen gab es eine fadenscheinige Ausrede. Geschlagene 25 Minuten hat es gedauert, bis wir unsere Getränke-Dosen hatten, das Essen war schon fast gegessen. Wir würden nicht mehr dahin gehen.

Absolutely beautiful food. The presentation and taste is second to none. I can highly recommend the shoulder of lamb with red wine gravy, it melts in your mouth. My friend had battered fish and thoroughly enjoyed that too. Service was excellent, really friendly staff.

Booked ahead (as would recommend as was so busy). Adapted to my wife’s garlic intolerance but great food that were huge portion sizes. Cate has a CLT and I the steak sandwich - full of flavour, nice fresh side salad and the sweet potato fries were spot on. Service was lovely throughout - always there but never intrusive. Wow wow wow. I can not fault Fjarå whatsoever. The first thing that pops into my mind is Eating here whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner is like letting your tastebuds wrap themselves around a really good book and just don’t want the experience to finish. The location is what it’s all about here, set right on the water with floor to ceiling windows, this casual cafe serves everything from breakfast, coffees, right through to dinner. We first popped in for coffee after a busy day touring about, late afternoon on a Friday and the place was probably half full. We were back for brunch/lunch on Sunday and it was full, with tables turning over pretty well. Having said that, we loitered with our meal & a bottle of wine and there was no sense of being rushed out the door. Very relaxed. Food is good without being great, but it’s a cafe, not fine dining. Plenty of staff, all young and generally pretty good. Give it a try, it won’t disappoint.

A excellent dinner at Fjara. I had the slow cooked lamb and it was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. A delicious combination of ingredients and flavours. Definitely the best land dish I’ve had in a very long time. For dessert, the pineapple upside down cake was lovely and rounded off the meal well. The service was excellent, being both anticipatory and attentive. In short excellent food and service in a very pleasant atmosphere. Recommended if you are looking for somewhere nice to eat in Shetland.

Fjara is reliably great everytime, but today was REALLY great- lunchtime scampi special was spectacular! Huge portion, beautifully cooked- delicious. Plus one of the best flat whites anywhere, lovely staff and amazing views- unbeatable!

Amazing setting right on the water, wonderful views. Food however was very ordinary and a bit disappointing? Shetland steak sub - taste of steak completely overwhelmed by string competing flavours of cheese and caramelised onion chutney.

Amazing food great service and lovely views the menu is changed I would definitely visit again it can get busy so I would suggest that ypu book which is easy to do online

Underwhelming experience. Food was just ok for the price, last time I was there it was very good. I had the lamb which was mostly fat and very little of it, my friend’s dishes were better.

Friendly staff but the hake was dry and overcooked. Lots of asparagus, beans and mange tout, too much, was it to compensate for the overcooked hake. Shame that it’s not possible to source more local produce especially fish in local restaurants

ouf of all the 'top' recommendations to eat in Lerwick, this was the only one that actually delivered! The waiter (tattoos, very cool looking) we had was attentive, there was no waiting around despite a busy restaurant. The carbonara was absolutely delicious.
