Haven’t used here for over a year and now I remember why!! Cold cold cold and missing items! When you call they don’t care you just get told to call Deliveroo I can honestly say I’ll spend my money else where!!

Had fish & chips tonight and normally on a Saturday night the shop is soo busy but no customers in the shop and such a rude response by asking if the sauce was in the bag, customer service and manners are low on the list, used to be the best chippy around but has certainly gone downhill.

fish is always fresh me and my dog Elmo love this place the staff are super friendly you must try the curry sauce cod is fresh eat here every week always great cant understand the reviews that say its not always busy mush peas are superb great value tried the rest cant think its changed hands as Nick is always frying whenever im in My dog and me love it keep up the hard work Nick and Elmo

£12.20 for a tasteless, small, over battered piece of fish and chips. It was suggested that the standard of food here used to be good but the shop has new owners?? Well we won't be back.

We found the fish disappointing. The batter was what I can only describe as slimy and we had to throw the fish away. The chips were fine but given the prices we were underwhelmed. Better fish and chips can be bought for this price and I’m sure anyone who knows the area knows where. Sorry but wouldn’t buy here again.

Its been well over a year of fish and chips since our last review . and Nick and his team keep knocking it out of the park. Most saturdays we order one a large gluten free cod and a large (normal battered cod). Im salivating just writing this review ....never had better

Been ordering here for years mainly through DeliverJ oo. Foods always very good. And on the last order we had an extra whole fish free, which prompted us to write this review. Have also ordered from chez fred but this place is better. Would be a 5 star if you sold saveloys Nick!

been getting weekly fish n chips from TJ's in Lilliput but they close by 8 so we headed over to Nick the Fish in Penn Hill and staff friendly with spacious clean customer area and outdoor seating. Gave us extra piece of fish with our large fish n chips and open a bit later than other fish n chips around Poole and they are good fish n chips too with easy parking outside on the street

Nick's is a regular weekly enjoyable experience . Great quality and cooked well. Double cooked chips and not too greasy and easy on the batter unlike many competitors.

Overpriced after 40 minutes wait which was not advised when ordering. Food average - customer service arrogant never again .

Went here last Friday night for the first time for Cod and chips and it was amazing! The only reason I’m not rating it 5/5 is because of the long wait time which was around half an hour, but luckily it was worth the wait! Will definitely be going back.

I just ordered a large cod from this restaurant and the quality was shocking. It was swimming in grease and overcooked. Picture attached. We had ordered just before Christmas and it was fantastic, I would love to know what has changed.

Usually a couple of times a month we order a delivery of fish and scampi and chips via Deliveroo, but the last two have not been as good as before. This last Saturday, the delivery was 20 minutes late and so the food was not hot, never had that before. I was given 2 smaller pieces of fish rather than a larger one that I had ordered, so ended up with lots of batter and hardly any fish. The chips tasted like they had been cooked a long time, and were small and flat, nothing like we have had in the past. We are so sad that the quality has gone downhill and hope that improvements will be made in the future. Unless, Deliveroo went somewhere else for the order!

Tasteless food and staff who couldn’t care less if you don’t get what you ordered. Such a shame as it used to be good.

Let's just remember its only a fish and chip shop not that difficult to operate The problem is chez Fred has been operating for many years and has set the bar very high for all the competition having said that this is a great location and easier to park but that is in my opinion all it can offer

Wow, if you are looking for a plaice to spend your money on o fish and chip taleaway ,thisis where to go. We visited again this week and found nothing had changed. The fish portions were as generous and tasty as ever,Quality maintained, and served with a smile.So if you are fed up with staying in and cooking,splash out and enjoy a fish meal courtesy of Nick and Victoria. You will not be disappointed.We love it.

Love this Plaice! Cod’nt fault our delivery last night. On time which was nice because we were in a curry and we’ve Haddock really hard time getting decent fish and chips delivered recently. Busy at the weekends which is a good sign so arrive early!

Have bought from here in the past and thought it good, but will not bother again. Cod was tasteless and the batter on the plaice was slimy and spongy. Staff attitude rather wanting too.

My review is about the staff not about the food. We cook at home daily and very rarely buy food from restaurants. This is one of a few places we would buy so be assured that the food is good.However today the staff mocked my accent and the contents of my order. I don't know where this came from. They are not the nicest bunch for sure but have never been rude before. So food - OK but if you don't have Dorset accent be prepared for some hostile behaviour.

We have had 3 deliveries from nick the fish 2 of which were passed our time slot.The first initial was spot on the fish melted in your mouth chips were good.Since then the fish has been very spongy with lots of tough batter, chips were like ends of really discusted.Our time slot was 6.45-7.15 it arrived again 20 minutes after this.Shall now be going back to our previous supplier.

First time using this fish and chip shop as normally frequent nearby Chez Fred. I ordered two gf fish and chips, one normal fish and chips and a 7up.Overall found it pricey.the above costing us just over £25.Bizarrely the lady serving seemed to be irritated at the mere fact I was ordering, actually made me feel quite awkward, which is unusual. When the food was ready she chucked it on the counter in an extremly oddly aggressive manner.... No offer of salt and vinegar or napkins/plastic cutlery. Maybe she was having an off day, it was miserable weather outside. There's really no need to behave like that to paying customers and to be honest it's annoyed me so much that I'm writing this review.Aside from that the fish and chips were pretty good, chips really good gluten free fish was pretty standard but kudos for offering it, normal fish really good. And big up for cooking in groundnut oil.To be honest if service had been normal I'd have been fairly satisfied,even if on the pricey side. I'm not sure too if we were overcharged or not so might not actually be that pricey. I'd have checked but was too scared to query.Would recommend if you don't mind the service. This was my experience which I wasn't happy about so thought I'd share on here.

My hubby and I only go to very selected fish and chips shops in Yorkshire and London. Now that we have moved down South, we now have a new local favourite to get our fish and chips! Everything is perfect, from the size and freshness of the fish, to the lightness of the batter, to the homemade tartare sauce and to the generous portion of chips! Couldn’t fault it as it was perfection! Price was reasonable too and the shop is clean with al fresco dining in Penn Hill! Owners were genuinely lovely couple and customer service was spot on! what more could you ask for!- jeff and kaye

On holiday in the area three years ago, I just loved the quality food and great service. Three years later on holiday in the same area and the food was just as good. Portions even bigger than last time.

This place serves the best fish and chips ever!! The only place my family will all agree on going to!!! In lockdown I missed this and on their opening we couldn't wait!! It did not disappoint!! Watch out though. the portions are huge, I usually have a junior meal. You also need to have their curry sauce, its essential!!! I also always collect it fresh, my friends all go to nick, (it is our guilty pleasure after a cheeky early evening meet up at the pub) but one used deliveroo, but its best collected!! it needs to be eaten ASAP.... and if you do collect, you will be picking at it on the journey home!!!

Making use of the Eat out to help out we thoroughly enjoyed our cod and chips alfresco at Nicks.For 7pm it was not busy at all and we easily got a table. Although we had a 15 minute wait for our meal it was cooked to perfection. The batter was crispy, the cod hot and meaty and not a bone insight.Covid friendly dining, hand sanitizers on table.Thanks Nick.

I decided to make the most of the lovely summer weather so I went for some alfresco dining at Nick the Fish. I ordered Cod and Chips which came with a homemade dipping sauce. It was a treat! Fresh fish, crispy chips and a lovely dipping sauce. The tables are thoughtfully spaced so you can dine out with confidence. The staff are very friendly and it is excellent value for money - half price under the 'Eat Out to Help' scheme! How amazing is that!

We enjoyed a calm fun day picnicking on the beach. Before we left for home we thought we would have a bite to eat. Normally love nick the fish - have been many times over the past couple of years and never had any problems. My partner is coeliac and always been excellently catered for. Decided to get it yesterday, tried to call up to order but was told need to just turn up as very busy, which is fine. However, having walked over a mile to get there we were told that they weren’t doing gluten free. I feel that this should have been advertised as many people are gluten free and we wouldn’t have wasted our time walking there and back had we known this prior. Otherwise great food when we do have it, just a shame about yesterday.

I’ve just had haddock and chips and it was amazing. Perfectly cooked chips. Great amount of crispy batter on the haddock. Haddock itself beautiful. First time and definitely won’t be the last time I’ll order from Nick The Fish. Arrived hot too. Thank you 😃

First time and will be one of many. The batter is so crisp there is some kind of magic going on there that I suspect we will never learn about how they do it. Its like a cocoon of freshness as the fish was amazing. The chips crunchy on the outside yet soft in the middle. Amazing.

I found the fish & chips quite normal and nothing special, despite it being noticeably more expensive than other nearby fish & chip shops. They also do fried squid and this was exceptional. We will come back for the squid, and pass on the fish & chips!

Its relatively expensive but the fish size and standard of cooking makes it worth it.Usually a well sized cod with crispy batterCrispy chips, not too greasy. But on occassion we have received ridiculously small sized portion, especially considering the price The service is normally efficient, but one of the ladies (who seems to manage the serving staff) isn't very friendly!

Nick the fish is the best fish and chips in Dorset. I regularly go there and the quality is outstanding. Unfortunately they are victims of there own success with negative reviews when you have freshly cooked fish you have to wait especially on a friday when the place is heaving. Keep the good work up and were happy to have such a good chippy locally.

I am a very regular customer, mainly via Deliveroo and normally food is exceptional, however tonight when I got home having ordered a cheeseburger with chips in the shop itself, it was lacking...the cheese, not sure who was to blame but sadly my Husband was so disappointed as having cheese with a cheeseburger makes all the difference, burger thrown away so had to suffice with just chips for him, so next time I order expect at least a free burger and with cheese this time. Had you ran out of cheese in which case would have ordered something else, please respond

I went to get food for me and my four kids early on a Saturday evening. When I got home (a five minute drive) we realised that although I had ordered 2 lots of 9 'chicken bites' and one lot of 6 chicken bites we were missing 9 chicken bites. The ones we did have had been put in with the meagre 'large' chips, which is not good when you are sharing them with someone who eats fish but not meat. Also a fishcake I had ordered was a nasty 70's style flat grey thing that was virtually inedible. I phoned immediately to complain that I had one of my kid's meals missing and asked for a refund, was told that I could only get one if I went back to the shop (another 15 minutes - leaving my food to go cold?) and the same applied if I wanted the chicken bites. I said I would not be going back that evening and they said to make myself known to them when I next went back, as if that is going to happen!For a shop that serves unlimited chips with their 'eat in' meals the portions were rather scant.On the plus side the children said that the chicken bites were really nice chicken and the fish (that I ended up sharing with my daughter, as the fishcake was horrible) was also good. It would be nice in future if a refund could be given with out having to return to the shop.

This great, tasty and delicious fish and chips a was a highlight of our brief 3 days in Poole. Having tried it last year we knew we would be going back this year. Order via the phone with year for collection which worked fine. Now just have to wait a year for another visit.

Used to use this shop weekly. Not any more!! Chips were meagre even though I paid for the larger size and several were barely cooked. When I drove back to complain the woman just gave me money back, didn’t offer me another portion to compensate for 2 lots of petrol and when I said I wouldn’t go back she just pulled a face and shrugged her shoulders - she couldn’t care less!! Very poor service and will be telling everyone about how damn horrible and rude the owner was!!!!

Had been to Nicks before and we just fancied fish and chips. We have been before and were not disappointed this time. Service was good and the food good. Only minor complaint was that there was to much batter but that apart enjoyable.

Well I have Never wrote a Bad review its not my nature.But can't believe how someone serving can be so very Rude.I asked nicely please could we have a light coated haddock. as Where we normally go they are more than happy to do so .then when we got our fish&chips; ( the chips weren't nice very oily) And not lightly Battered. Didn't enjoy them at all . please Lady keep smiling you took our money once .You won't have the chance again , How disappointing .Now we know where we go there is a Queue .

We're regulars. Food and service is outstanding. 'Nick the Fish' is consistently consistent in frying and serving fabulous fish and chips. We've been regulars for at least 2 years. We make a special trip from Wimborne (8 miles away). 'Nick the Fish' are the real mccoy. Proper fish and chips cooked perfectly every single time. Our local fish & chips in Wimborne is appalling which is why we go to 'Nick the Fish'. There used to be a second fish & chips in Wimborne but it closed recently, after just 1 year! It wasn't good either. If you think you've eaten great fish and chips - it's very likely you haven't. Can't sing their praises highly enough. Eat in or take away. Just go!

I have visited this chippie when on holiday from Somerset, and never been disappointed with the friendly fast service, of enjoying a cold lager sat outside basking in the southern sun enjoying , Nick's over generous portions of beautifuly cooked fish and chips recommend . Best fish and chips in Dorset in my opinion.

Another visit to Nick`s proved to be as enjoyable as ever. Lunchtime is a good time to visit.My wife had a generous sized portion of really tasty Haddock, whilst I enjoyed a mixed grill of battered prawns and scampi,topped off with a spicy chili dip. Who could ask for anything more.Service and cleanliness as good as ever.We shall be back..do join us !

We go at get fish and chips once a week and sit at evening hill as we both work in offices last weds we unwrapped our standard size, and found what I would consider a child's portion at £15 for 2 portions it was a rip off don't get me wrong they were nice but I won't be going again

The chips were oily and soft, the fish was bloody awful being spoiled by the cheap, nasty tasting, oil that it was oozing from the overcooked batter. I have used this chip shop many times since its opening and I have noticed a progressive decline with tonight being the ultimate, never again

Really enjoyed this meal through Deliveroo Perfect battered sausage and not one crap of rubbish chips! ie all those rubbish hard bits that often get with chips! Well worth delivery costs and small fee for small order. As a person with a disability this is well worth the extra.REALLY enjoyed this meal! Thank you Nick the Fish! The local fish & chip shop for me is Nick The Fish at Pen Hill,Poole. The service is excellent headed front of house,Vicky.Even on a busy evening she will always keep waiting customers up to date with timing of completion of their order.The quality of the fish is par excellance,produced beautifully by Nick beavering away out of limelight!

When we are on holiday we always make sure we have fish and chips. We like to eat in the shop, after having an average meal in one by Poole harbour I searched on trip advisor and found Nick the Fish, on arrival we were disappointed that they had moved the tables so you could not eat inside but this was understandable as it was a very busy Bank Holiday weekend. However they had set some tables up outside complete with plastic cutlery, condiments and serviettes. We ordered regular cod and chips which were served in a nice large box and I can honestly say they were the best fish and chips I have eaten for a very long time. The cod was lovely and white, the batter light and crispy, the chips perfectly cooked and everything piping hot. If they could repeat this elsewhere then Harry Ramsdens had better watch out! One final word, Superb!

After finding this place on Trip Advisor and seeing how many great reviews it had we decided to give it a try. The seating area is very small only around 8 seats for dining in the front of the chip shop. But they are all clean and set nicely with flowers etc. The service was very friendly and attentive. We ordered 2 x fish and chips and some sides of squid, well the squid came out with some free prawns for us to try. The squid was cooked to perfection in a salt and pepper batter (LUSH) our mains followed. It the best fish and chips I have had for a long long time, everything is cooked to order even takeaway. The fish was lovely and moist and the chips not greasy.

I have traveled up and down the country trying different chippies, freinds recommend Nick the fish , I was greeted with freindly fast service , on my take out , I live 9 miles away and my food was still hot . Massive fresh haddock with crispy batter , chips were amazing , best chippie in England recommend .

Yes. You read the title right. The wife and I are in the UK visiting my son. We spent the day touring Stonehenge and Salisbury. Ended up on the coast. Everyone was all dressed up so was looking for a nice casual spot for dinner!!!! So TripAdvisor has never let me down and definitely didn’t disappoint this go round either. We ordered cod and chips and a salt and pepper squid and shrimp for an appetizer. Well I’d be remiss in my review if I didn’t mention the chile sauce that came with those. So the appetizers could not have set the table any better for the main course. 3 monstrous orders of cod and endless chips. Well let me just say you don’t need the endless chips. We couldn’t eat all we had. The chips are fresh cut and the fish was cooked just right with a darn good batter as well. Had to wait about 5 min to eat the fish. It was that HOT!!! Fresh and flakey. Not overly seasoned and they threw in a pan of the best mushy peas I’ve ever had. Cold bottles of beer and while it is mostly a take away the service was 5 star. Silverware, matching glasses to pour the bottled beer in. Proper plates. And this is a straight up British Fish & Chips shop!!!! I see why this place rates so high!!!! Thanks for the great night out. And the red and white roses on the tables made a really nice touch on Valentines Day for the wife and I accompanied by the oldest son!!!!
