Fish and Chips on The Waterfront in Fife

Ordered the haddock and scampi, the others liked the haddock but sadly the scampi went into the bin. The scampi poo was not cleaned, there were overcooked to mush and batter soggy and falling apart. The fries had a weird yellow/brown colour which was not appetising. Service was in existence.

My wife and me had a fish supper and smoked sausage supper today(April 6th),,and both were well cooked and fish was lovely,service was great as well ladies,, definitely be back.

Poor service today not normally like that. Normally they are chatty not today. Really blunt. Poor portion compared to normal for chip and cheese. Really shocked. Wow take it use can’t take a bad review. Don’t give shit portions and have better staff with better manners. And you won’t get a bad review simple.

We went because the other one we saw was highly rated and “award winning” but it was so packed - but we’re grateful cos this place was super friendly, great service and the food was super tasty! They have a little seating area out front to soak in the sun whilst you snack. Loved it!

It's one of the best fish suppers I've ever had, and my husband says the same! The portion of haddock was generous, as were the chips. The batter on fish was so light and crispy, and chips were perfection. Everything had been cooked there and then to order, and it was worth the wait. My husband says there's an app where you can order ahead which is handy to know as it'll definitely be our 1st port of call for delicious fish n chips in the future from Anstruther!

Delicious, the chicken burger was so tender, fresh batter, fish was lovely but not too keen on the chips, they were crispy compared to some chip shops but just felt the potatoes were very bland/ dry.

This place is as good as the one along the road that's queued round the block, without the hour long wait.

Been here a few times. It's brilliant. I don't know why the one along the road gets all the attention. Staff are always very friendly and it serves a tasty fish supper. Cannot fault it.

Went with my wife for fish n chips. Decided to share a fish supper. The guy in the shop split a fish supper between us and put it into two boxes. Great service and great food at a great price.

Great wee chippy definitely the best

Went with the family yesterday evening. The service was good and friendly, with staff coming out along the queue to take orders and keep orders moving at a really busy time. The portion size was good, but like some of the other reviews though I found the fish and chips was overly greasy. The fish was heavily battered and came in two pieces with small amounts in each. The mushy peas and curry sauce were really nice. I’ve given 3 stars because the food is the most important factor

Don't bother with the tourist trap along the road with its hour-long queue. There's perfectly cooked fish suppers to be had here with a 10 minute wait.

Lovely and very friendly staff, service was very prompt. Unfortunately food was very greasy. Asked for some Brown sauce, only to open the box and find out that our chips were coated in wayyyy too much sauce. As for the atmosphere, the floor was very dirty, this is to be expected as it was very busy. While waiting in the Que, we could see the Chef's preparing the food from scratch which was good. Staff were very good with taking orders, as every 5 minutes they would politely ask over the counter if everyone had ordered. Overall the food was standard.

First class service and delicious fish & chips, cooked to order, with mushy peas and home made Tartare sauce.

We were here yesterday after a day out and what an end to a day the best fish and chips we have ever had by a country mile my daughter is normally really fussy when we order a chippy at home, she absolutely devoured hers. Your staff are brilliant and a special mention to the young lass on the till and taking orders outstanding customer service considering how busy she was superb!!! Will need to visit more often thanks again guys!!!!

First time visitors and didn't disappoint. Suppers were first class, fish was excellent. Sitting outside in the sun, what better way to spend your Sunday. Definitely be back

Nice place, however waiting for my order number to be shouted and nothing. Then the next number shouted out. Asked about mine which had now been given to the wrong customer, had to wait again. They made it quickly which may explain why it was very greasy. Nice chips and tasty fish, pity about the grease.

I am also writing an opinion because my wife and I have no reason to lie and according to the owner it is not true that the fish made us sick. we went there with empty stomachs and only those in the family who ate fish are sick. five of us went there, three of us ate fish, those who ate fish are sick, our stomachs are cramping and I vomited.

We bought 3 fish and chips this afternoon, everybody is sick, sore stomach, my husband vomited. Fish was definitely wrong. Service is perfect.

Service was fantastic and have to mention exceptional from the young lad, Kyle I believe his name was. The food was second to none. Everything here was better than the two other chip shops I found in town.

Came here after a boat fishing trip. I can safely say this is in the top 2 in the best chippys I have ever had. The fish is freshly battered to order and the fish is also fresh. Crunchy batter and flakey tasty fish. Received great customer service also.

Went all the way from Kirkcaldy, the food was dire, cooked for too long, the batter for brick hard and greasy and that was after waiting about 20 mins

Very tasty fish and chips! The take-out process is though organised very poorly: multiple queues are all in the same place. The serving lady was trying to do a good job, but was clearly overwhelmed. it’s better to slow down, rather than rushing through multiple tasks.

Great service, really fast, freshly cooked food, very tasty. No need to queue at the better known chippy when this gem is just a few feet away!

Very bad ...just came to the place with someone reference but worst decision ever...who gave you the award for the best fish and chips?? You should get the worst award ever...really pathetic...no fish inside only coating and very bad taste of oil...very bad ....have tried other places also in Anstruther, they are much much better than you...will not suggest your fish n chips to any one ...if you have got the award please return it honestly.

I came up from Edinburgh but big Disappointment The other fish and chip shop was very busy. So I came here, the chips was grease and the fish has left an Disgusting after taste in my mouth.

Hands down the best fish and chips we had along this coast. Really lovely staff team who were clearly working hard to fulfil the orders expertly, and they did.

Pop in for some chips at lunch time today was highly recommended to do so. But very disappointed in the quality of the chips lucky if there was a dozen of chips the rest was scraps unable to eat definitely will not be back

Maybe not as famous as the more illustrious establishment nearby, but if you're after a tasty fresh fish supper, you'll absolutely get it here too.

Poor quality fish and chips - more greasy batter than fish; chaotic ordering system (and they became aggressively defensive about the problems ); stick to the Anstruther Fish Bar - superior in every way, even although you need to queue for a few minutes; trades on proximity to Anstruther Fish Bar and some people's lack of patience to queue - won't get caught out a second time...... don't get caught out the first time.

Fish and chips takeaway on a very hot Saturday. Chose your place due to smaller Crowds. Best decision ever. Dry slick service. Food was amazing best fish and chips ever. Hot hot. Fab crumbs on fish good size good value. Will return. Thanks.

Fish and chips were disgusting and awful. Put them in a bin. Waste of money and huge disappointment.

Very disappointing experience. The fish consisted of 60% batter and 40% fish, if not less. At points it felt like there was only batter and hardly any fish. I never such a low quality fish'n'chips before. I would not recommend that place.

The most thin piece of haddock you can possibly imagine in tonnes of butter. Not impressed at all. An absolute no from me. And no I don't mean your competitors. I have the receipt and it is from you. It may have been the wrong day but the fillet was thinner than paper.

Pros: The location is lovely with nice customer service/prompt ordering system. Cons: WAY too much batter on the haddock and prawns. This causes the food to have to be overcooked, leading to dryness and a loss of flavor. Also, the chips were undercooked.

Both waterfront chippie and restaurant are great, whether sitting in or take away, my personal favourite is the smoked haddock in batter with chips and mushy peas and their own tartar sauce, with a side of crispy onion rings, absolutely delicious

First time here, ordered two fish suppers. The fish tasted fresh and the chips were lovely. Very friendly staff, will go back again.

Overall disappointed. The portion of the fish was unbelievably small, it looked like the piece of fish had been cut in half lengthways and it was overcooked. I'll forgive the slow service as it was very busy (Easter Sunday) and the queue was out the door. I really should have taken a picture of the portion size.

Sat today at their outside seating area and had the best fish suppers in the area. Beautiful white tasty haddock and lovely chips, yum!

Used the waterfront takeaway and had the regular haddock and chips and it was probably the best fish supper I have ever tasted. I am very sceptical nowadays about chip shops not selling haddock,but using inferior fish such as pollock.But this was absolutely haddock and absolutely fresh.And the batter was to die for. I made a point of returning and passing my comments onto the staff. I would thoroughly thoroughly recommend this place.

Bought late lunch here during bus trip. Ordered single haddock and was told we would have to wait as everything was cooked fresh. The short wait was well worth it as the end result was a truly delicious fish with light crispy batter. I was told if I needed more salt or vinegar to go back in but everything was perfect. Well done to William and his colleague. We will definitely buy more from here if we return to Anstruther. Highly recommended.
