First of all its terrible how one has to use a card and tap your pin numbers on a tablet size screen that is not near to the user, hence stretching over the counter and anyone in the shop if wanted could see what's been pressed. Absolutely no privacy plus I was not even told how much the coffee's are or given a receipt. But the worst of this visit was once I had paid I was told to go outside and wait at a window or them to be made, It was raining I was freezing and the man who I might have been new took 7 mins to make 2 coffee's whilst I waited outside getting cold. Maye I could understand this method if the shop were busy. I could have easily stood inside from the rain and wait for the coffee's The coffee was pleasant would have been nice if there was a choice of a medium instead of only a small. cup it would have been nice if it was warmer not tepid

Had a lovely breakfast at Finks. The staff were very very nice and accommodating. Food was good quality however I do feel it was about £1 over priced. £8.50 for some mushrooms on one slice of toast felt a bit excessive. And no fried eggs! I’d go back but wouldn’t make a special trip.

Great place to have walking distance. It’s usually pretty hectic in there, but it’s quick as they don’t cook anything really. It’s mostly toast or sandwiches but they do this poppy seed egg salad bagel which is orgasmic! Definitely worth checking out!

This is quite honestly one of my favorite places to go for a coffee, or even a glass of wine after work. The staff are so nice and the food is in a league of its own. The quality of the service and the food is a notch above the rest. You can tell that the owners are passionate about what they do and that's a real draw imo. I've been here on so many occasions and always leave slightly aghast at how good it is!

Absolutely love this place. 1) Food is consistently creative and brilliant. 2) Wine list is fab. Decent prices and brilliant quality. 3) Staff are always lovely. 4) Most importantly, though, we love the atmosphere here. It's got a fab neighbourhood vibe. Really chilled and relaxed. Such a contrast to some of the noisy, rushed places in town.

Nice food with lovely decor and good coffee but unfortunately the middle aged blonde manager (or possibly owner) is seriously rude and grumpy all the time. He never smiles and is unpleasant almost every time I go there with friends. He’s completely put me off the place which is a shame as I’m local and would like to go there often but I’d rather avoid his awful attitude.

I live locally, and absolutely love Finks for brunch. Lots of delicious coffee, creative breakfast food, and friendly staff. It's also a fantastic place to come and work during the week in the afternoon (the cakes are great). I booked the place for a birthday party and it was just wonderful. Amazing food, lovely drinks, and the staff were just so so lovely (and really attentive). I wish I could do it all over again! Not only that, it was an absolute dream to organise - I put in minimal effort (a few emails), and they organised everything for me.

Visited with our son who lives locally and daughter with 5m old baby. The place looked busy and we started to walk away however, one of the staff called after us and said he could find us a place. This made us feel good about the place even though we had not yet sat down. The member of staff found us a table where we could also park the pram. The menu was kind of funky with many dishes i had not sen before. I had the Cinnamon bacon toast which came with more bacon than i have ever seen on one serving. All in all a good experience. I know we will be back when we are down in this area again.

I have been a regular at Finks since it opened, I think 3 years ago. I have never previously posted reviews about Finks because it's not something I usually do. If I had they would all have been v positive. Most recently, a few days ago, we had dinner there with friends. It was so lovely in every way I decided I should post the review it deserves. Warm, low key yet vibrant, nicely busy but not overly so and the food and drink were just delicious, from the gin and tonics and the house flat breads with zataar right through the various sharing plates of aubergine in a glorious tahini based dressing, greens in avocado dressing (sounds odd I know but so good and inventive), burrata with a spectacular pea and mint purée, smoked salmon pate with beetroot and seaweed sprinkles and the best toasts, and then there was sumptuous lamb, all accompanied by a delicious Rioja new to the menu. We had more than enough to eat and it came out at 25 quid each including alcohol (not including service). Finks really is a happy, special place. I just read the other reviews on line, no surprise to see they are so favorable.

Finks is a lovely, and stunning little coffee shop which I have had the pleasure of visiting since they opened as I live just up the road. It's been a real pleasure to see the grow and (thankfully) expand the breakfast and brunch menu to include more than just bread and cheese etc. The menu is still a little limited, and I really do hope that they start doing more hot food in the future, but until then, I will happily keep popping down for my coffee and small brunch plates. Food notes: The muffins (with cheese / hams etc.) are incredible, the pretzel roll with pulled pork and gravy dip is one of the best things I have ever eaten, and avocado on toast (of course) is brilliant. They do change the menu, and after my last visit I tried the toasted sandwich, which was okay but could do with a bit more work in terms of variety of fillings. Service can be a little slow, especially if it's busy, which it usually is. But they do work with with as many staff as they can, and you can see that they make everything there by hand, and they are always working non stop, so it's not as if they are just hanging out and not paying attention to their customers.Looking forward to popping down soon and trying more on the menu.

Finks is our favourite local place and we've been visiting since it opened. We asked them if they would host our wedding dinner after our registry office ceremony at Clissold House last Friday evening. They did, and they absolutely exceeded all expectations. They closed the restaurant just for us, did the most beautiful table arrangements and served an incredible dinner. We've had so many friends and family comment on the beautiful food, and the amazing staff. Mat and Jess and the team worked so hard for us and it showed. So now Finks means much much more to us than a local cafe, and we cannot thank them enough for making our day so special. The only down side is that I'll probably well up with tears every time I go in for a coffee.

I've been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner (and everything in between) or several occasions. Always buzzing with locals in for work or pleasure. Dinner is a laid back affair, with interesting small plates and great cheese. I keep returning to the lamb and flatbreads.. but no dud notes. Often pop in for a glass of wine early evening, leave hours later full and roast cheeked. Very very busy over the weekend for brunch, so tend to avoid peak times. Service is always friendly, food great and wine delicious.

We came here for breakfast one day as it was always full and looked interesting. We ordered a couple of sandwiches, a coffee and some sort of health drink. The coffee was good, but the health drink was quite disgusting - a mix of salt, sour, milky, and generally not good. The sandwiches were very standard, a slice of ham and cheese on sourdough without anything interesting and definitely not worth the cost.

One of my favourite cafes in London fortunately quite close to me. The people that run this place have very good taste. You can't learn or teach the sort of taste you are born with it. The originality of the food and the way they make things work together is right up there with Highburys very own Nigel Slater. Yes it's not the cheapest but the quality of the ingredients, the flavours and dishes they produce would not look out of place in a gourmet restaurant. It doesn't take a genius to realise to deliver this sort of quality you have to pay a bit more than the typical cafe prices, not much more, just a little.Full marks for the coffee which is too often overlooked in local cafes. They've spent the money on a top Italian machine and the people using it are trained to a central London barista standards. Producing great coffee clearly isn't easy, so many places fall short. Finks have put the work work in to keep the machine clean, the water and coffee fresh and probably a trained barista making it. Well done. As another reviewer mentioned it's English tapas. Lots of small plates mainly served cold, some hot. More extensive in the evenings. You'll probably be a bit surprised at the menu but just go with it. It's all great. Lovely corner unit with lots of light and some outside seating and pleasant staff. There's a lot of hard work gone into this place and it show. Enjoy. A hidden gem.

Nice food if you like delis, good quality meats and cheeses, and some of the hot dishes are nice, particularly the aubergine. Wouldn't really recommend the chorizo as not a great deal of chorizo. The veg dishes are relatively substantial but the meat dishes are a little lacking for the money and the charcuterie boards in my opinion are extremely expensive for what they are. Desserts really good and staff very friendly, nice atmosphere and well located. Plenty positives but a couple of things to work on in my opinion and could be better value. Love the quirky menu and atmosphere.

I actually found this place because I'd heard there was a Sylvanian Families shop nearby. I'm not a collector but I was intrigued to see it. It's actually next door to Fink's so we thought we'd pop in for a bite before checking out the cuteness next door. We had sandwiches and they were very tasty. I also treated myself to a little cake. The staff were friendly. The place was nicely turned out and full of people working on the MacBooks, or yummy mummies. Price-wise, I think it's on the high side. A tenner for a focaccia seems steep to me. It was a massive one but still. When it came time to leave, we must have been too satisfied because we completely forgot about the shop next door. However, it's the nearest place for me to pick up a takeaway coffee so I've started going in there on the way to the park with my cockapoo, Dora. She's allowed in! I've eaten breakfast there a few times. There's a good choice of toast, yoghurt etc. it's a bit pricey and a bit pretentious and gets packed at weekends so very popular. A relatively new addition to East Highbury. A cafe which has an appealing contemporary feel and is tastefully renovated from an old military shop on Mountgrove Road. They offer relatively attentive counter and table service, but the owner can come across a little surly and staff clicky. A bit work done on customer service and being a bit more welcoming would be appreciated. There are deli shelves offering a range of the tasty, high-end grocery goods to buy and take home. After a few visits now, I'd recommend the charcuterie board, smoked salmon bagel (fresh & tasty) and a slice of the (moist & delectable) Guinness cake. Try one of the Le Bénéfique organic infusion teas - made with endemic plants from the mountains - refreshing & uplifting. This place opens for breakfast, lunch and dinner and should be supported as a good local cafe, and especially while the boss and staff work on how they can come across a little friendlier and more open!

This is such a shame as I would eat here regularly but I don't have time to change my clothes and wash my hair after visiting each time and if I don't, I would absolutely reek of their cooking smells.I strongly suggest they do something about the overwhelming smell.

I'll echo a previous comment and say that the food is a little pricey, but the quality means it's worth paying for. The atmosphere is lovely and relaxed. We will definitely go back.

The best place locally for brunch by far! Had the Butternut Zing which is literally to-die-for! They use quality ingredients and the menu has an innovative style. Was a bit let down by the coffee but it may just be a question of personal taste. Won't stop me coming back though!

Finks is a fantastic addition to Highbury. Tasty, innovative food all day using high quality produce. Mat and Jess clearly take huge pride in what they are doing and it shines through in everything. Lovely weekend brunches, great midweek sandwiches and cakes and delicious weekend dinners. I hope Finks will be a staple for many years to come.

Yes, caps is necessary bc this veggie is so happy with options. There are meat options but they of course, didn't interest me.Here is what I have eaten in two consecutive visits:Butternut and Zing- 8 poundsRoast Butternut Squash with Cavolo Nero. Carrot, Lime and Ginger Dressing, Sour Cream, Carrot Rashers and Horseradish Sauce: Oh man, the tender squash and dressing had such a great flavor in the mouth. I wanted to lick the bowl. A substantial portion as well for a tapas plate. Only the rashers were a bit meh.Winter Greens- 6 poundsCavolo Nero, Romanesco, Tenderstem Broccoli, Sprout Tops and Purpe Kale. Tahini and Maple Syrup. Sticky Toasted Pumpkin Seeds and Pistachios: crunchy veggies with the slight smokiness and crunchiness of the kale and seeds all done well. Again, a substantial portion.Winter slaw- 7 poundsCabbage, mooli, kohlrabi, raddish, beetroot, slaw dressing, lavash crisp: I loved the think sliced beets as I am picky on their preparation. The crisp lavash balanced the slight crispiness of the cabbage and radish and the dressing was subtle. A good portion here too.Of course, the WINNER, WINNER was dessert: the chocolate crack for 5.50 pounds. This is possibly one of the best desserts I have ever had. The biscuit-like, soft cracker is layered with a caramel sauce and then topped with chocolate and crushed pistachios. There's a substantial portion of crackers offered- 5 or 6? Alongside vanilla ice cream glazed with a dark chocolate crust. Man, it's as amazing as it sounds. The service started off great and then, like everywhere in London, tapered. But overall worth it for the great food!

My sister lives in the area and took us here for brunch, we arrived as they were opening and immediately they bought us menus and a high chair before we had even selected a table! The goats' s curd, avocado and Harissa on sourdough is a delight. So good I tried to re create it at home and it wasn't a bad attempt. Coffee was great and a soya milk hot choc and small cooler hot choc for small child were all delivered without any issue. When we came to pay the card machine wasn't working so a trip to a nearby cashpoint was necessary, for which the cost of drinks was removed from the bill.

Spent an evening there recently with a group of friends, lovely service and great selection of food to accompany the wine. Also, their sandwiches for lunch are simply divine!

Well, maybe not quite LOVE, but close (the harissa, hmmmm...). I'm so pleased this place has opened in my area, it's such a great spot to hang out in and have a bite to eat and drink. The best place to go to if you've been in Clissold Park, or for that matter anywhere vaguely nearby. Also it transforms in the evenings from light and airy to snug and atmospheric. In Michelin language, well worth a detour.

my husband and I have just had lunch there, the food portions are ilarious and the quality of food is appalling. I had a chicken sandwich wich was cold (from fridge) with tasteless mayonaisse (called creamy sesoning!), chewy cold bread and unwashed wild rocket (it wasn't in the menu and I don't really like it!!!). My husband had 1 english muffit cut in half with a thin slice of cheese and bacon chutney... everything without any side. DON'T GO THERE if you don't want to waste your money thinking you are having a proper lunch as you'll have a disgusting snack.

Finks is now a staple of my eating and drinking in the area. It's the type of place I have hoped for for a long time and as pretty much become my new local, be it for a dinner with friends a quick drink or a coffee in the daytime .They really know their stuff and set a perfect atmosphere whatever the occasion, and considering what else is on offer in the area they have massively raised the bar in what can be done... Oh, and I haven't tasted anything on the menu ( and I think I may well have tasted everything) which hasn't been truly delicious. I've read a couple of reviews that praise Finks for everything apart from their prices (which some seem to consider too expensive), but it seems a bit of a contradiction to say that everything is perfect yet not worth paying for? It's not as is if there aren't a lot of other lovely, but slightly less quality places in the immediate vicinity which are a bit less expensive. For me the prices are incredibly reasonable for what is on offer, this isn't a local caf, it's punching well above the offering of far more established (and more expensive) restaurants throughout London. If anything I think it's to the credit of the owners that they have created a space that feels so accessible but keeps the quality at the highest level. Maybe it's this that makes people forget quite how good this place is. So whatever they're doing is working for me, and considering the constant buzz and lively atmosphere, I'd say it's working for a lot of other people as well!

Gorgeous cafe, great service with really friendly and informed staff. Cheese platter and charcuterie board really delicious but it is hugely overpriced for quantity of food. The other dishes are also very tasty but mainly cold (as expected from menu), and again hugely overpriced. Would return for glass of wine with friend but not dinner.

Different enough, interesting enough, new and inventive enough. An alternative atmosphere within what looks like a pretty innocuous space. The dishes are thought in an Ottolenghi kind of style, so pretty much a modern inventive fusion with a tapas mentality to it.. And, when you take your picks from what looks like a pre-theatre menu on recycled paper, there's no such a thing as a differentiation between starters or mains, so choose what you want, eat what you feel, basically. Things like "Lentils, pomegranate, roast beetroot & chèvre" or "Chickpeas and cavolo nero with goat curd" or "Bresaola & Celeriac" were unfailingly fresh. The Burrata was so & so but no complaints as it's rare as it is to find it around in London anyway. Friendly service that could have been more attentive, particularly since on a mid week evening there were only few diners around. Overall, good marks. The food and service just need to gain confidence.

I wanted to find somewhere small and with delicious food to celebrate my birthday with friends and family - my expectations were exceeded at Fink's Salt and Sweet. I can't recommend it highly enough - for food, service and atmosphere. The food was fantastic. We had a set menu, which included tea and coffee, croissants and jam, yoghurt and muesli with fresh strawberries, bacon jam & cheese and smoked salmon open sandwiches and - as if that wasn't enough - huge cheese and meat platters (of exceptional quality). The whole thing was such a great experience and everyone was really impressed as each 'course' was served up. Loved the lovely cutlery and crockery too, and the cafe/restaurant is just generally very nicely decorated.Mat, the owner, went out of his way to come up with a set menu for 16 people, and was incredibly helpful throughout. He was very welcoming of babies and toddlers. Everything was well organised and the service was great.I highly recommend Fink's for groups, and recommend it to anyone who wants to have a coffee and a bite to eat in a very lovely care/restaurant.

Had an amazing Sunday brunch here today. Relaxed atmosphere, friendly attentive staff and considering the great quality of the food, really reasonably priced. Particularly liked the delicious salmon and cream cheese open muffins, the cold meats and cheeses board and the tasty yoghurt and muesli. We'll be back for sure!

We popped in for lunch and ordered the smoked salmon board and beef sandwich. The beef sandwich went down a treat and the smoked salmon was delicious - five thick tasty slices. The only downside was that it only came with four small crackers, although the waiting staff quickly brought some more without any fuss when asked.Great coffee and freshly squeezed OJ.We're looking forward to going back in the evening and seeing more of what this great new local cafe has to offer.

I haven't lived in the UK for over 20 years but always try fish and chips somewhere when I'm here on business. This place is honestly the best fish and chips Ive had in decades. Staff were low key and friendly, sat outside with a nice beer watching the world go by. Really loved my haddock, so crispy and just the right amount of batter. A very chilled and relaxed dinner on my own.

One of the best tapas restaurants I have ever been to in London! We managed to make a last-minute same-day reservation on a Saturday evening at 7 and the food absolutely didn't disappoint. Upon arrival at the restaurant I immediately had a good feeling about the food quality because we got to sit at the kitchen counter seeing how they prepare everything in front of our eyes and all the tapas looked absolutely amazing. We went with the plain tortilla, seabass ceviche, fried chick peas, braised beef cheek in apple sauce and roast lamb cutlet with hummus. Tortilla was creamy and savoury, ceviche was super fresh and sauce was so refreshing with the grapes it's definitely a good way to prepare your palette for something even more flavourful. The fried chickpeas were such a pleasant surprise with its savoury taste from the batter and it went nicely as a side with the beef in apple sauce to enhance that flavour profile. The beef was super tender and melted in your mouth and the apple sauce had a pleasant flavour to it. The lamb was a little chewy for me personally but together with the hummus it was great. Service was amazing with friendly waiters and chefs serving throughout our time there. I was really satisfied by the experience and would definitely come back soon.
