Stayed in the car park in our motorhome as part of a trip to Scotland. What can we say about this place? Fabulous welcome from the fella that welcomed us (turns out it was Robbie the owner). Nothing too much trouble, very relaxed and welcoming towards us and our little companion Bruno the Cavapom. We had a couple of drinks in the bar. Not a massive choice of beers, but adequate. We weren’t rushed and we went to our table when we were ready. Menu choices weren’t extensive but that’s often a good sign. We chose not to have a starter. Mains ordered: scampi and a sirloin steak (med / rare). Both dishes were excellent. The steak was well cooked and well rested - so no huge amount of blood oozing out. Very impressed! Have to say that dinner was excellent. Service was superb. Doggy was welcome too - always a positive for us. Value for money? Amazing!! We had a bloody good evening, with bloody good food and thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Thanks Robbie and your team - we will definitely be back again

We used the Finavon for our football presentation. Robbie and the team were outstanding and very accommodating. The Marquee out back is massive and would recommend for booking for parties of all types. Food was great and shout out to the Chef. Big play area out the back with stunning views. This is our 3rd year and will be back, we also use this venue for events throughout the year and nothing is too much for the team.

What a fantastic roadside stop off. We were heading between Aberdeen and Edinburgh and in need of some proper food we stopped. A really nice menu and the food was just what I expected. Good, well cooked tasty food. And the service from who I believe may be the owner was very personal and friendly. If you are hungry en route. Stop. You’ll not regret it.

A lovely hotel which has both a cafe and a restaurant. We stopped here for dinner in the restaurant. Restaurant well furnished and cosy with a coal fire . Menu was brought on a blackboard. Really good selection of starters. I chose Camembert which was a generous portion and cooked to perfection. Husband had garlic mushrooms which he said was also excellent. Main courses were not such a big selection but husband chose gammon steak which came with all the trimmings and said was very tasty. I chose fish ( because of lack of chicken dishes ) tasty fish but batter could have been better drained. Both served with unusual chips (thick odd shapes ) which I personally didn’t like at all . Drinks : pint of beer usual price but for a small glass of water and dash of cordial £1.75! The bill was probably correct but every item had “ correction “ bedside it so was a little bit more than confusing! We will probably return next time on that route as overall a pleasant visit.

Early tea. A very quiet restaurant, but it was early. Nice staff and nice menu. We had the fish n chips, duck stir fry, beef stroganoff and the chicken n black pudding. All the meals were served quickly and were superb, but the stroganoff was a wee bit too salty. Pudding was nice but warm chocolate fudge cake was not warm, but a quick visit back to the kitchen it was sorted. All in all, recommended.

On the journey home from down south, grandma, myself and my kids needed some food. So without any thought we went to the Finavon hotel for a bar meal. We have never had a bad meal here and tonight was no exception. Kids had chicken goujons, grandma had the fishcakes and I had the steak pie. Followed by sticky toffee pudding for dessert for the adults and the kids had ice cream. With a coffee and tea and juice for the kids we were just £43 and something pence... and the food was brilliant, the amount of food for both kids meals would have fed older kids but my six year old tackled it well. We have left fully satisfied with happy bellys. Definitely recommend. From a family of foodies we loved it.

I stop here anytime I'm travelling south. The Finavon Hotel cafe serves great coffee. Lunches are generous and freshly made to order. The seating is comfortable and the service is very friendly. Even though you are close to the road, it's quite quiet because the walls are so thick. I've had dinner just once on a journey home and it was excellent - a varied menu, very nicely presented. It's just a great place to stop. And there are lovely rooms for the weary traveller. As you drive south look for the sign for Finavon Services, and take the right hand lane to cross and leave the dual carriageway. The road turns to the right to get to the hotel front door 60m at most. There's enough parking for probably 15-20 cars. To get back on the road going south, take the same road back to the dual carriageway and take care crossing the lanes.

I then requested the bill, it was for the full amount of the meal. I don't think so! I requested I get discount as the salad was not edible, got a measly £2 off. If, like me you travel to Aberdeen and Inverness regularly don't drive past the Finavon to stay at a chain hotel. The food is good (local ingredients - veg is grown in the owners walled garden) and there is often someone to chat with at the bar. The feeling is one of home from home and I will often do a crossword whilst relaxing after dinner. Rooms are tidy and clean. It is the antidote to the bland uniformity of the well known chain hotels! I have stayed here since 1995 and still look forward to arriving. One of the best things about the place is breakfast. Whatever you order it will set you up for the day. It is always advisable to book your stay the day before as, like me many business travellers make regular return visits. The Finavon is also the venue of choice for both uk and foreign parties who make annual visits to the area for shooting and fishing. The place has its idiosyncrasies but these are all part of the charm and character!

Decided to visit as the chippy is near the sea harbour and has a restaurant part to sit down and enjoy your meal. Experienced possibly the worst fish and chips Ive ever had. The batter around my fish was not crispy but strange and bendy like it’s was made of plasticine. The fish inside had a weird mushy texture with a faint tinge of fairy liquid mixed with something else, disgusting. Chips fared no better they were not crispy but again bendy…seems to be a theme here. It appears they didn’t have the fryer hot enough to get crispy chips and batter or they were using really old oil….this I don’t understand. If you cook fish and chips all day you should be an expert at doing this limited cuisine..not many things to perfect or get wrong. The restaurant is poorly designed sitting near the window was an uncomfortable and sweaty experience like being in a crappy conservatory. Unpleasant. Toilets were filthy and looked like they had been decorated by. drunken 2 year old. Came away and felt unwell all day…think I consumed too much old chip fat oil. Avoid!
