Sat outside - I picked a shady seat - and had Menemen breakfast and coffee. Both were perfect. The place is chilled and friendly. Read the paper for a while and watched the World go by. Perfect spot.

Staff forcing customers to leave tips. Giving you less change than was due, hoping you are drunk enough so you don't notice. The club downstairs is a rathole. A disgrace of a place ran by people that clearly have no decency nor honesty and who are unwilling to come to England to live under English standards. Stay away

I was happy to return here after being away from London for a long time. The food is as good as I remember and the prices still very affordable. Ordered an omelette, arrived looking like vomit on a plate. I queried if this was an omelette. Told it was a meditarain omelette. Never seen a omelette like this in the med. I thought I'd give it a chance, perhaps it was like sashuka. Nope tasteless and awful. Asked for my coffee not too hot, basically took notice of my request. Waste of money.

This is our favourite neighbourhood restaurant. The food is always great, fantastic value for money, with friendly staff. The service is not frantic and if you want to rush, perhaps try somewhere else as the mood is relaxed here and there is a real mediterranean 'take your time' vibe. Traditional dishes all worth a try, as is the full med breakfast (you can swap anything you don't fancy for anything you do!). The music can be a bit nuts at times but you can always ask them to turn it down if you can't hear yourself think. If the lady is at the front making flat breads, don't miss the opportunity to have a freshly made meat or spinach/cheese one. It will blow your mind. Add the complimentary AMAZING honey and coconut cake at the end of your meal and you will be happy.

Evin Cafe on Kingsland High Road is a good spot for those living locally visiting the market or small shopping centre. There are a couple of med type places up and down the street, but this duals good solid breakfast offerings as well as the more traditional style Turkish/Med fare. The ground floor cafe has a small outside terrace, but as it’s on the main high street it can be noisy with a bit of pollution. Also, it is the smoking area. It's best to sit inside for comfort. We arrived for lunch, but the breakfast menu was still available so Ema had the interesting breakfast mix of scrambled eggs, grilled halloumi, grilled sliced sausages, olives and salad. Ema was happy with this and she enjoyed it. I had the cheesy garlic grilled mushrooms for starter. The mushrooms were a little on the raw side and there could have been a bit more garlic. For my main course I had the charcoal lamb chops with mixed veg and rice. The lamb is an acquired taste, as it’s a bit on the well done side. If you like your meat tough, this works, but for me, it could have been a little bit more pink and tender on the inside. The menu in general is full of good Turkish options such as kofte, houmous, falafel etc. I have tried other things on the menu on previous visits which have tasted much better, so I would still recommend this as a place to go.The staff are friendly and the little lady making the homemade Turkish pizza quietly works her magic in full view of diners. If you come in for dinner, there is apparently a bar downstairs for drinks.

This is one of a strip of similar Mediterranean cafe-restaurants that span a block of Dalston Kingsland just near the Rio Cinema. I've been in others, but this one beats on sheer value. I ordered a Spinach Stew, for £7.95. It came with complimentary bread and two mezes while I waited, and when the meal arrived, it was utterly enormous - but very fresh and well-cooked. I used to go here all the time when I worked around Dalston. I actually miss coming here for lunch. I was in the area and hungry so this was the ONLY choice to have lunch. Service is quick and I love the Gozleme, reasonably priced. I had tea, good value. I noticed that prices have gone up for the meals which means that this place isn't good value for money anymore. There are cheaper places in Hackney. However, for a hot drink and a Gozleme this place is perfect. You can sit outside and people watch which I love. The furniture and decor is tired and could do with updating but this doesn't bother me.

Severely let down by this restaurant as have enjoyed many a meal with my partner and daughter, was let down by management and there handling of a situation. After my child came in and was a tad grumpy, she settled after having some lunch, unfortunately her father had to go work so I stayed for another 10 mins to pay the bill and put her in her pushchair, which with a grumpy 1 and a half year old was a fight of wills. A patron happening to stare at myself and my partner throughout our meal and when I was putting my child in her pushchair was staring at me more so I calmly asked her "may I help you" and "is there something wrong" Well I was met with a torrent of abuse, screaming in front of a crowded restaurant to "Get Out, and "Your child is crying" After being humiliated in a public restaurant I was visibly upset. I then said "You should be ashamed of yourself" after which she responded " You are depressed you need to get help" in front of a crowded restaurant. So after breaking down in floods of tears, a waitress speaking in Turkish obviously saying to the woman to stop, I had to sit on a chair and compose myself. Waitress was a sweetheart offering me water and apologising for the woman's behaviour. I calmly walked out visibly upset though.Spoke to my partner who had been eating with me throughout the meal decided to go into the restaurant and make a formal complaint to which Managment insinuated that our child had been crying for an hour (lies) and this woman did not behave in that way, also that our making a complaint was unacceptable behaviour. I let him know that we were patrons for the past 5 years and we had enjoyed taking our daughter in there but for him to turn round and say this woman was a patron for years as well. The point I was making was that for him to treat patrons of 1 day or 5 years like this and insinuate because he was friends with this woman that we were at fault then I find disappointing. Does he honestly think that we would want our child to disrupt others while they enjoy there food?May I add the high chairs in the restaurant which there are 3 are broken and have been broken for a while even mentioning before that they should take note of this. Straps that are clearly broken to keep a child from climbing out and so they do not hurt themselves. Also food was incredibly slow to arrive so my child was irate by the time it came. For a patron to do this is unacceptable and for the Managment to accepts this even sitting with the woman who had abused me I find shocking. Disgusting to the point. A restaurant which I always supported now sadly I will not enter again.

Let me start by saying that we need to take a bus, an underground and an overground just to get to this place! But we love here so much! Normally we arrive at around noon and get lentil soup (one of the best I have tried), gozleme (huge savoury pancakes with various filings: cheese, spinach, potato) and lots of turkish cay, which is always excellent. Sometimes my turkish husband orders melemen (egg and vegetable dish). Recently I tried their dried apricots with homemade cream and nuts and I loved it! This place used to have a lady in the window making flatbread... I think she moved to make their outdoor area bigger. I miss seeing her when I walk past, but she's at the back so I just have to go in more I guess. Luckily, I don't mind at all... They do great Turkish lunches, and both great Turkish and English breakfasts... I've been here loads for morning meetings and your bill comes in a treasure chest. Nice touch. Like all my favourite places too, its got a few weird quirks... like the TV screen inside running a constant advert for the restaurant, but which can only be seen from inside. Perhaps its just a casualty of moving the bread lady.

My parter and I are regulars at Evin - it was the first cafe/restaurant we visited when we moved to Dalston and we've been going back regularly ever since. At first glance it can look a little sparse but the food consistently delivers and we love going there at least every fortnight now! We're always recognised by the staff and we feel at home everytime we're there. We discovered our favourite meal after seeing it on another diner's plate - Icli Kofte (minced lamb inside a ball of wheat) completely rocked our world when we first tried it and it's hard not to order it again and again every time we visit! They've slightly reduced the size of the four balls you get as it was always a real struggle to finish it, especially after a starter! We'd also recommend the cheese pancakes which are made fresh in Evin every day. At £1.50 each they're perfect for breakfast on the go and have just a little kick of chilli to make things interesting! I only ever had one complaint about Evin - the beer (Efes) was always served a little too 'room temperature' for me and the glasses were always warm, but this seems to have been sorted now, so I literally have no bad things to say about this place. We'll keep going back again and again...

I love Evin. Turkish/mediterranean and British (particularly breakfasts, but there are a range of breakfasts) fare. The prices are good, the menu wide and varied enough. Good solid food at reasonable prices, considering the hike in prices in this passing trendy area. An example is going to Evin for a decent-sized breakfast and you're paying £5-6. Go to another place very nearby which has a higher trendy drawing appeal and you're paying almost double for much less food. Well, I suppose being trendy doesn't make one smart. Evin has tables outside under a canopy which get the sun on good days, and the first space inside is nicely decorated with an intimate atmosphere. The back space is much less inviting, and seems rather tired and run down. This cafe/restaurant has been very busy on the last two visits I've made, and as a result I've had to sit in that back area. So, a word to the owners, please improve the decor and ambience back there :0). Great for a coffee, great for breakfast and good for substantial dinners, with lots of side-salad. Use this place! the view by the way migh be described as scenic. It's the busy Kingsland Road and the busy pavement running by it. Interesting to people watch.

Not just the usual kebabs, but a veritable feast of mazas and old Turkish favourites, with a speciality of traditional Anatolian dishes, like the amazing içli köfte (similar to kibbe, but soft, and served on a thick bed of yoghurt) and really excellent hünkar begendi (stewed lamb on an aubergine purée). We were very happy at our table at the back (it was busy when we arrived) and when one became available at the front they came and asked if we would like to move. We didn't move but it was a nice gesture to be asked. The staff are very friendly and accommodating.

Been here every time since I have started visiting Dalston ( 3 times in a month ) and i love it. Excellent service, great value for money and gorgeous food. Everything on the menu seems a very reasonable price, the burger and chips was under £4 and was a decent sized serving. On one occasion they bought out a wrong main meal, was no problem at all but straight away they bought over free of charge flatbread to apologise. There is sometimes a lady sat in the restaurant making the fresh bread, lovely touch! Price of soft drinks is £1 for a can, reasonable i think for a cafe / restaurant. Really cant fault this place, its my favourite place in the high street to eat. To give you an example of cost, for 3 adults to have lunch with each of us having 2 soft drinks it came to £20.05.Cant wait for my next visit!

Went here on Friday night, and as promised by many friends much of the food was good. However, the long black human hair in the salad was not so good, nor was the manner in which the owner or manger dealt with the situation. After rather publicly accusing us of introducing Mr Hair to Mr Salad ourselves, he grudgingly offered only to deduct the price of the salad from the bill, and when we informed him that seemed a little under generous, he threw us out. Oh well…

As I live around the corner I quite visit regularly for breakfast. Recently undergone some refurbishment, the restaurant now is even nicer and has more seats- indoors and outdoors. You can get a full english breakfast for about 6 £ and turkish options are even cheaper. The Gozleme are about 2£ and I can only recommend them as they are made fresh in the restaurant. As for lunch/ dinner the food is very nice but sometimes the portions are a bit small. Usually you get some bread and tomato- onion dip complimentary.Note: This is not a halal turkish restaurant as they serve bacon for breakfast.Highly recommended for breakfast, ok for an evening meal!

One of the better Dalston Turkish restaurants -friendly, efficient staff with a typical menu using fresh ingredients. Particularly nice over the week-end, when getting a table can involve a wait given the mixed crowd of regulars, including young families. Recommended!

Been going there 3 years, food hasn't tasted that awful before. My chicken was raw couldnt eat it,now going to z bar Which is located on the other side of the road which has good food and good service. I waited 15 mins for a tea and there was only 3 people in the cafe........

We went there during their opening month in November 2014. It was busy. There were 20 of us and the staff struggled to cope with our orders. Some food was excellent some poor and some never arrived. I had hoped that things would improve but the restaurant is now closed

I want to love this place so much - its a little local cafe in a lovely spot with outdoor seating which makes me want to go every time I walk past. However I've been twice now and I definitely wouldn't bother again. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt - I don't mind a relaxed vibe in terms of service - but the staff are just don't seem to care and as a result it is unenjoyable. Both times I've had to ask for menus and later to order after no one came (most people around me have had to do the same both times), and both times the food has been missing things - the first time my coffee had no syrup and the second time someone had forgotten to put any ham in the ham and cheese croissant. Honestly such a shame this place is let down by the staff. They seem lovely but can't do their job.
