I don’t like to leave negative reviews, especially when it is clear that an establishment is trying to make an effort to do something good, so I will try to be balanced in my feedback despite the fact that this restaurant really annoyed me. On the plus side, the food is overall well done. The dishes varied from very good (the liver parfait) to good to okay (we didn’t much like the tofu or one of the desserts, but that is probably down to personal taste). There is a focus on organic wines, which is a big plus. The décor is quite nice – simple, modern, clean. On the negative side, some (not all) of the dishes are expensive for what they are (£50 for a large bowl of (very tasty) rice with a couple of sliced scallops on the top); and none of the wines was particularly good value either. We were sitting at a large table as we were a group of 7, with 3 people sitting on a bench against the wall which was at completely the wrong height for the table (my boyfriend is 6ft2 and the table was at chest height). But my biggest gripe of the whole evening was the chef’s response to a simple request to be allowed to take home the remainder of our £50 rice dish which we had been unable to manage to eat. There was much to-ing and fro-ing by our waitress between our table and the head chef (in the open plan kitchen not far from our table) relaying messages of varying pathetic excuses for why our request would not be accommodated (‘we don’t have a container’ (ok, so wrap it in foil); ‘we don’t do take-aways’; ‘we might give it to our dog’… ‘it would be bad for a dog; we don’t believe you have a dog’… etc.etc.), which finally resulted in ‘it’s against our policy’ and an absolute refusal. I consider this level of service and the chef’s bad attitude to be totally unacceptable, especially given the high prices they charge for their food. I have been to far better, more upmarket restaurants than this where such a request would have been treated with good grace and readily accommodated. It left a very bad overall impression, and put rather a downer on my birthday dinner. I certainly won’t be returning.

Quite hard to find but once you reach the counter the multiple Japanese tapas are quite interesting. We tested many of them and they were all different and original. We particularly loved the Turbot and the Tartare. No cheap though. Highly recommended

Consigliatissimo!

Heard some good reputations about this modern izakaya so we visited there with high expectations, unfortunately it wasn’t as good as we thought. We ordered few plates to share and mackerel sushi and chawanmushi were really tasty. But all the potions were small, and over priced. Very narrow wine selection, also ridiculously expensive. We spent more than £100 but still hungry. Disappointed.

Great ambiance and a great welcome. Totally takes your tastebuds away from the stereotype of Japanese cuisine. Well balanced flavours with as much information on the dish as you want, friendly and knowledgeable staff to pair wines with your meal. Will definitely be back

First Izakaya outside of Japan that matches Japan standards. Food and service were impeccable. Location of the restaurant is in a residential neighbourhood but worth the trip.

This hidden gem in Battersea is an absolute must visit if you love good quality Japanese food & it’s no surprise that it’s got a Bib Gourmand. The area itself is a very cute spot with nice bars & restaurants to go for a drink afterwards too. The restaurant has cute bar seating as well as tables for bigger groups. The decor is minimalist but warm with a modern trendy vibe. The menu has 18 savoury dishes which they have perfected & are ideal for sharing. They also do a tasting menu Thurs-Sat. We tried half the dishes: Yellowtail Sashimi - Turbot , Asparagus & Yuzu-shu - Scallop Sashimi & Potato Dashi. Pork & Shrimp Gyoza & Rhubarb Ponzu. Beef Tataki, Shoga Dressing & Calcots. Chicken Hearts & Shiso - Grilled Chicken Curry Katsu Bun. House pickles - Grilled Mochi, Smoked Poacher & Chilli Crisp. The best way to sum this up - every dish that came out I kept announcing it as my new favourite dish. The only one that was not one I’d rush to have again were the chicken hearts, these were just not to my taste personally but we tried them & appreciated the flavours it was more the texture that I was not 100% on. If I had to pick my top dish I am honestly struggling but I would say 100% try the Beef Tataki, Yellowtail Sashimi & Turbot. The sashimi was so buttery soft, the beef so flavoursome & Turbot light & beautifully delicate. Oh & a shoutout to the mochi & the sauce that we were tempted to lick the plate clean of had it been socially acceptable. I actually thought it was a really reasonably priced menu & sharing dishes between two was perfect. Also all the staff are absolutely incredible & so lovely, they made you feel right at home. A really beautiful meal which the chefs display a great pride in when they bring each dish out & seek genuine feedback on. Safe to say I would definitely come back & this time try the rest of the menu!

Such a beautiful town! The castle is a fantastic experience, staff were so friendly and helpful. The displays were stunning and well displayed, lovely to see. We were on a tour so couldn't spend as much tie as we would have liked. Highly recommend, hope to come again.
