We didn’t expect this level of service in such a small village. Superb service with friendly staff. The food was delicious. Staff went out of their way to make sure my husband celebrated his birthday meal on a high. Hope to see them later in the year.

We thought the restaurant looked promising - smart and modern (although the table was dirty) but the food was of a very poor standard. The ‘home made’ steak and ale pie looked and tasted like a left over from the back of a chip shop warmer. It was hidden under a mound of chips, stale peas and gravy which had never seen a pice of meat. The ham hock terrine starter was good but served with a piece of limp pea shoot. Obviously something has gone wrong since the reviews of 2016 ( most certainly did not deserve its CAMRA pub of the years award and we could not recommend this to anyone. To add insult to injury, in spite of complaining, we were still charged for the food.

We were shown to a table in the restaurant in which when we arrived there were only three other diners at two tables. Two more arrived whilst we were there. It wasn't busy and so what followed really wasn't acceptable.Ambience: it's clean, obviously recently updated but it feels like your eating in a stone floored barn. No 'warming' features, no music and therefore everything was amplified in this large almost empty room.Menu: seemed a decent selection of dishes. It isn't cheap.Service: MixedFood: One excellent dish and one extremely poor dish. Served on wooden chopping boards, a fad I thought had disappeared. What is wrong with a plate? Boards are unhygienic and the paper placed upon them gets soggy, tears and then you have the potential for nasties. Personal preference I know but I do prefer a plate!Partners snout to tail pork dish was pleasantly presented and he said it tasted delicious. I had the seafood platter. In all honesty (and I did tell a member of staff this too) it was the worst seafood platter I have ever eaten. Prawns in a glass three quarters full of limp lettuce leaves, no cocktail sauce, well there was a tiny bit. I actually poured it out onto a side plate and the small amount of sauce did not leave any impression on either the glass or the plate. The goujons were barely warm. The other fish, salmon and mackerel was straight out of the fridge and were too cold. One slice of bread was hard on one side, presumably having been left out of storage for too long. As nobody asked me how our meal was and because I was very hungry, having not eaten for seven hours, I slowly made my way through the meal, hoping that a member of staff would approach and at the same time noting that two residents of the hotel who had ordered the same dish had been presented with a vastly different chopping board. I could see the sauce on the prawns and steam gently rising from the goujons of which there were more of and of a larger size. Had I been served the not quite up to standard food, not being a resident? It was noticeable that we were the only non-residents eating there and we experienced a totally different level of service to the fussing residents were treated to.Eventually a member of staff did attend us and all of the above was detailed to her in a pleasant manner. We were asked if we wanted dessert to which I responded no, just the bill please. We sat and waited for twenty minutes. No bill arrived. We eventually went to the separate bar and paid. The bill was reduced by 10% to reflect my comments which to be honest was an insult. I wasn't expecting a full discount as I did eat the food but 10%?!Ravenglass is a small village and there is captive audience when it comes to food in the evening. Perhaps this explains things. I left disappointed having arrived in anticipation.

During our recent visit we were invited by friends in the area to dine with them at the Pennington........now there is something missing here........the place has undoubtedly been given a makeover but there is a lack of warmth and ambience perhaps it is the blandness of the décor but both the bar and dining room lack character and intimacy. Nevertheless the menu was extensive and everyone enjoyed there meals although there was nothing really that gave a real wow factor (and it was not cheap). The main problem was the disjointed service......meals appeared at different times some did not arrive at all and at one point one of our party had to assist the bar staff so she could go to the kitchen.......ok it is the end of season and I can imagine that staff are hard to recruit so it may have been a one off (although I note another recent reviewer had similar problems).....Hey there is a solution call for Jackie who works at the INN down the road......if ever a place needed her enthusiasm and organisation skills this is it ! unfortunately is it

Booked in for b & b but also ate evening meals in hotel and food was great. Presentation was a feast to your eyes and tasted every bit as good as it looked.

You must think I'm in the pay of the Pennington Family but I'm not, the Pennington Hotel is just a few door's up from my cottage and I use them for all Birthday's, Anniversaries, Just fell like going out to Dinner's, Guest Entertaining, Girlie Catch up's and what's for Supper and we just fancy their Fish & Chips. Simply because they are so good, service is exceptional and they go that bit extra to make your stay simply the best. But this Saturday night was Roy's 75th birthday and the treat was to a typical 70's 'Special Dinner Out' so I met up with the chef Thursday or Friday morning to talked over Roy's favourite meal, which is a 'Prawn Cocktail' followed by a Fillet Steak with all the triming's and to finished off with a Baked Alaska washed down with a bottle of Bubbles!Well Kath and her fellow chef's did us proud as did all the staff, the meal was absolutely beyond fabulous, the whole evening was a joy.Kate and her staff made the whole experience so enjoyable that I didn't think it could be made any better, until this afternoon when Kate and her young chef's paid us a visit with two plates of fabulous 'Strawberry Meringue Roulade' which we had with a cup of tea, that's how nice and thoughful this Hotel Group are! Good Service, fabulously kind and caring staff we'll never go any where else.

I ate at the Estuary Restaurant on Saturday Night whilst enjoying a one night stay in Ravenglass.I chose to eat here having stayed the previous week when I tried the Inn at Ravenglass which is actually owned by the same people. The Restaurant is tastefully decorated and provides a comfortable dining experience. The wine selection was limited but none the less affordable and satisfactory. The food however I have to say is probably as good as anywhere I have sampled in the lakes. To start with I had the Blue cheese panna cotta with a waldorf salad, I have to say this was perfectly presented, balanced and very tasty indeed. For the Main I had Duck with fondant potato which was equally fantastic. The chef really does need commending on not only the presentation but the balanced way in which he puts his creations together every component on the plate was considered and made to compliment something else.I had a wonderful cheese board to finish.so is there anything the could improve on? well of course.I would personally like to see tablecloths on an evening rather than bare table and I also think that despite the very friendly approach by the staff there is still some way they could go to improve. also the cutlery would benefit from being updated. That being said, they are getting right in so many ways, I would return again without hesitation.

Went along to the Pennington Hotel in the village of Ravenglass last night to celebrate my Birthday, had the most wonderful time! they had gone to alot of trouble to make it one to really remember complete with a birthday dressed table! The meal was truly wonderful and what I really wanted, even down to a real Prawn Cocktail with a stuning side salad, followed by the most perfectly cooked steak beautifully presented oh! the sweet of sorbet mango and lime that ended this dream of a meal was a dream! in it's self, all washed down with a lovely bottle of pink bubbles. The staff really do make our visit's so perfect, always going that bit further to make our visit fabulous, they are so kind generous and attentive to both of us, looking forward to our stay with them over the Christmas period, I do recommend you visit for that special occasion, may I say we're both looking forward to our Christmas Lunch there this year too, we wouldn't go anywhere else.

We ate in the restaurant while we were staying in the hotel but it is also open to non residents. The 3 course meal was around £24 per person which was good value for what we had. This would be a suitable veue for a celebration meal as well as just for eating out with friends. There was an interesting choice on the menu and we enjoyed all 3 courses with a complimentary sorbet in the middle. We also enjoyed the wine. The service was excellent with all our needs met. We ate in the bar on another evening - again a very good experience.

Lovely friendly family run business. The cakes are exceptional, so much so we asked them to bake one for our Nieces 18th and it did not disappoint. You can go to Costa Coffee and pay much more for a cake that has not been baked on site and probably mass produced. Have some home made heart warming, tummy satisfying cake. Or try some of their traditional polish food, you will not be disappointed!

Missed off sauces that were paid for. When rang regarding matters were rude and indifferent to customer. Therefore happy to accept your money albeit u may not get what u have paid for. So you can basically bracket it as theft. Thrives.
