Got my dad an Essen gift voucher for his birthday as he enjoys cheese so we went in this weekend just gone. He had the opportunity to discuss with the gent at the counter what cheeses are similar to what he likes and then have the occasional taster piece. My dad was like a child in a sweet shop, he bought several different types and was adamant that he'd be back! Thanks :)

Lovely place to lunch and drink wine. The two young men who run the business are outstandingly knowledgeable and helpful.

Didn't any food sadly, but looked delicious. Bought some drinks here and had really helpful advice from staff.

Love this place. Fantastic recommendations, excellent service and total deliciousness across a wide range of food. I went to Essen with a small group of friends for a fantastic meal for a significant birthday recently. The whole event was perfect from start to finish.

Gem of a place. Great food and drinks with knowledgeable and helpful staff. Impressive range of cheeses and other deli items. So many good things on the shelves too. Returning tomorrow for some post-Xmas shopping.

Stumbled upon this charming spot that offers wine, sandwiches, and cheese. The staff is highly knowledgeable and provided insights into lesser-known wine and cheese pairings. The ambiance is relaxed and the main menu features sandwiches and cheese boards. Highly recommended.

One of our favourite places to eat in BEESTON. The guys who run it are friendly and helpful and have excellent knowledge about their products. We always have a nice time here. The ambience is just right and the cheeses are phenomenal!

We love this place for a croissant and coffee or a wine and cheese in the evening. The staff are knowledgable about the products and the vibe is relaxing with lovely fresh products available to buy.

Expensive but actually good value due to the very high quality of the food. They even have fancy pants coasters :)

Brilliant venue. A really interesting cheeseboard menu with gorgeous sourdough bread. Also, an interesting draft beer to help wash things down.

Went to the fondue evening when i heard some poor soul had to cancel. I hope they aren't dead, but as yet, I don't know if they are or not. If they are, RIP cancellation person, but thanks for the cheese. Anyway, back to Essen General Store. What lovely folks, Ed is amazing at giving me wine to sniff, and Sam is spectacular at melting cheese and wine in a pot. They definitely know far more about funky foods than anyone else in the NG postcode, which is handy. As thats what they do, go talk to them about it. So, fondue. The gooeyness and cheesyness was nothing short of sublime. The juxtaposition of pickles and cheese was something I thought would taste weird, it didn't, it was like a vinegary cheesy mouthgasm. The carrots, now, I'm a huge fan of a crunchy orange vegetable, cold and crunchy, not hot and squishy, but hot cheese on carrots sounded like some sort of vegetable based torture method, however, wow, crunch and goo, get in my face hole. I had a beer to go along with the cheesefest, exceptional locally brewed table beer. Which isn't beer brewed from tables, it's actual beer, made from beer things. Made to drink at a table. Fantabulous. My carer had a glass of Gewurztraminer, lovely wine, she seems happy, which makes life far easier for all involved. There was sausage, and ham, and all the breads, all dipped in just the right amount of cheesy goodness. Cleaned the cheese pot. Smashed all the dippy things. Now sat in a food coma. All in all, a bloody fantastic result. Ps. If youre on the correct side if the globe. Go to Essen and eat cheese. If you die before you do. You've missed the 8th wonder of the world. That's all there is to say really. Pps. They're dog friendly, not as in, if your Mrs is a bit of a dog they'll be nice to her, as in, they let actual 4 legged dogs in with well behaved owners. Synopsis. I'd give them 6 or 7 stars if I could. But this isn't Dubai and I can't make up my own star ratings to suit my inflated ego.

Incredible cheese, wine and charcuterie. Highly recommend the ‘All the cheese’ platter and getting the team to recommend wine to go with it. We held a significant birthday party here and the team were incredibly accommodating and welcoming, including making sure that the two coeliacs in the group were well catered for. One of my absolute favourite independent shops/ restaurants in Beeston!

Since discovering this gem of a place about a year ago, I have always gone out of my way to return when I’m in this neck of the world! Great vibe, great staff, great food! I had a yummy sandwich and cuppa, picked up some pasta to take home, what’s not to like!

The best selection of cheese and wine + the most helpful and friendly staff. Just had to sample a Reuben sandwich on the way out and WOW - probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever had.

Been here a few times. Great place for a drink and some nibbles. They have a great selection of wine and cheese and the staff are very knowledgeable about both. It is also possible to get some craft beer. Around the seating is the shop, which can make some great gifts for friends and family.

My Mrs loves this place and it’s easy to see why. The selection of goodies for sale is vast and always high quality. To dine in can be limiting and the big table could put some people off sharing their dining experience. However If you want a glass of wine and some nibbles or a filter coffee and a Welbeck Abbey pastry then you can’t go wrong.

On a recent trip back to Beeston, we were delighted to find this place and everything it had to offer on a sunless Sunday morning. Sam and his team we're helpful with choice selection and all of the individual characteristics of their produce leaving you with the reassurance that they'd put a lot of effort into researching and sourcing something a little different for their shop! They have a fantastic range of small production wines and nothing you'd find anywhere else on the high street let alone in Nottingham. It was a real pleasure to discover this place and such a change from everything else, very much looking forward to our next visit .

Great place in Beeston with a real flair for quality products. The staff are all super knowledgeable and help you with picking what works for you. Their expertise really shines. We have had some amazing wines and excellent cheese on several occasions. Well worth a trip to visit and if you’re local then you are blessed.

ESSEN is one of my fave places in notts. Gorgeous produce and products, really lovely atmosphere if you're planning to eat in and great staff who really know and are always happy to talk about what's on offer. (The pic I've included here is some of their chorizo which I took away to cook with, beautiful quality and makes for fantastic dishes.) Check them out, you can't go wrong here.

A cheese and wine emporium, many varied beers in the fridge and a couple on tap. Grab a table, a drink and some cheese from the vast selection, relax for a short while. Talk to Ed or Sam for some excellent advice and it won't be your last visit.

Our new favorite store! My husband and I have visited twice. The sandwiches are lovely and very satiating, and it is lovely to chat with the owners. They are very knowledgable about food and wine. My husband left his hat at the store, and one owner was even kind enough to run after us and return it. The nicest people and the best food!

Just popped in for a coffee and bun to hide from the snow. Lovely place we great music and atmosphere. Friendly and helpful with a nice menu and loads for cheese, wine and beer. Dog friendly, we will be back soon.

My friend and I went for some wine and cheese and it’ll be my new favourite place from now on. The service was absolutely wonderful and really informative, although there’s SO much to choose from, they didn’t make you feel silly for not knowing about the different varieties of wine and cheese. The prices were so reasonable for the quality of food and drink you get, and the atmosphere is friendly and not stuck up like other places that do the same products. I can’t wait to take my friends and family here in the future!

Visited with a friend on a Saturday afternoon and it was a really enjoyable visit. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I’m not a regular (or knowledgeable) wine drinker, but I felt very comfortable ordering and there was certainly no pressure to order a glass. The sandwiches available were really tasty - although as someone who doesn’t like sourdough, would love another option. Will definitely be returning to try out a few of the cheeses. Really glad to have something like this in Beeston

Great selection of meats and cheeses. They even have nduja which is hard to find so I had to buy some of that. Now I just need somewhere to stock guanciale and I will be set!

Visited the Essen general store on a saturday afternoon and was instantly welcomed by the helpful staff and the great atmosphere. Serving a selection of artisan goods, cheese, beer and tough mary bakes and sourdough- it is the perfect place to sit down for a casual drink or to take out. Loved it and cannot wait to go back!

A great little place. Lovely atmosphere, very friendly, helpful staff who knew their wines. Excellent fayre: gorgeous natural wines and very good snacks food (cheeseboard, sardines, tuna pate, etc) to accompany them. There’s nowhere else like it in Beeston for a chilled couple of hours with great wine and excellent company.

excellent! aside from the wine/cheese/charcuterie there are plenty of goodies I'll be perusing for a Christmas present or two. plentiful cracker refills as needed. just a note, if I may - update the online menu, which still states that corkage is free!

Absolutely divine! We had the "all the cheese" board, along with a selection of natural red wines by the glass. Great staff who really know their stuff. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

Fantastic!!! Never tried natural wine before and every glass was delicious. The staff are very knowledgeable about the wine and food, and there's a nice selection of local gifts / deli treats. The cheese selection was excellent (you must try the Selles Sur Couffy), can definitely imagine spending more time here!

We had an antipasti board and wine. It was excellent, will definitely be back!
