So disappointing. We had the Brie bacon and cranberry baguette. The cranberry was so sour we couldn’t eat it. We did raise it at the time and the waiter acknowledged and said sorry but offered no recompense even though we couldn't eat it. As they were so busy I didn’t make a fuss. I emailed the manager after and she acknowledged the batch of cranberry sauce used was very sour. She offered us two free drinks and 15percent off our next meal. We paid 30quid for lunch we couldn’t eat. This offer was insulting.

Excellent full English breakfasts. Glad we went for the standard size as none of us would have managed a bigger version. Good quality ingredients - proper doorsteps of bread, not the flimsy cheap bread you sometimes get served in other cafes. Very impressed.

Great looking place. Ordered ham egg and chips. Lovely crunchy chips but the fried eggs were on top of ham which made the ham slimey.

My husband and I stopped by for breakfast. I ordered the avocado on toast with poached eggs; my husband ordered the eggs Benedict, and two cappuccinos. When our breakfasts arrived, I had two pieces of cheap sliced bread, smeared with the meagrest amount of avocado but worse still, the poached eggs we’re literally rock solid hard; I could hardly cut through them. My husband’s eggs were the same. Solid. Now, I don’t like an undercooked egg but the whole point of poached eggs is that the centre’s are at least a bit soft; which was the point of both the dishes we ordered. Sorry I’m usually of the school of “if you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything at all” but these cafes/restaurants are quick enough to take our money then can’t even cook an egg; when they advertise a breakfast menu. Very poor. Added to the food issue, our cappuccinos tasted odd with a strange twang so couldn’t drink those either. Definitely won’t be returning. They could see what they served us was clearly poor quality and badly cooked; it shouldn’t need pointing out!

The worst breakfast ever. Ordered the full English, arrived with no sausage, was told given extra bacon…my wife ordered the vegetarian, it was swimming in oil needless to say both sent back…I was horrified to see them cleaned up and put straight back on the pass, as yes. Resold… I got our refund and left, needless to say Will Not be returning…

Visit here every few months bit disappointed today. Paid £12 for a salad, requested no mayo told not possible! When it arrived consisted of half a dozen leaves and a large dollop of tuna mayonnaise. Certainly not worth the money. On a positive note cakes look amazing and my friend’s meal of a club sandwich was much better value. Maybe a little more attention could be given to the salads!

Fantastic service and food. You cannot fault this place as its staff are welcoming, friendly and efficient. Especially the tall slim chap - a lot of other restaurants/cafes need to watch and learn from him. The food is superb and good value - would thoroughly recommend.

Quite frankly I would not bother going here. We arrived early for lunch and were shown to a table. Then sat around for 20 mins before going to order at the till (apparently we were told to do so but we did not hear this). At the till we were told we could not order lunch and would have to do so in 10 minutes! After ordering we then were told there was no ice for the iced coffee - how can a kitchen not have frozen water - and then when I complained that it had been 30 mins to get a drink was told it has only been 7 minutes since going to the till. To top it off I could hear the staff bad-mouthing me afterwards. What kind of cafe does not take food orders and ignores their customers sat at tables. My advice is to check out the smaller cafes nearby. They are much better.

Arrived on a Sunday afternoon and joined the queue at 3.45 for a table for a meal. Taken to a table by a member of staff at 3.55 after asking if they were still servicing food and told yes. Had to ask for a menu and by the time I took our order (you can't order from your table) to the till it was 4.03. I was then told they had stopped serving at 4 o'clock and we could only have cake and drinks. Disappointed, we ordered cake and drinks and were given a told to wait at our table till they brought the order over. After 15 minutes, I inquired at the till if we would have to wait much longer as my daughter who has type 1 diabetes, had taken insulin and needed her food. The waitress as very apologetic and lovely. I can't say the same for the guy on the counter who was very abrupt and was obviously having a bad day.

Visited today with my infant daughter - we were greeted by a lovely member of staff who found us a table immediately. On ordering unfortunately we were told they don’t offer a single dairy free sweet/cake/biscuit etc which was really disappointing. My daughter loved her babychino, and the server who brought it to the table was lovely. My oat latte was completely undrinkable however, the coffee part of the latte seemed to be missing so was just a watery hot oat drink. So all in all, good job on the customer service, terrible job on the product.

Much of the time the food has been OK / good and occasionally excellent .But the meal we had last Sunday was lacking in both quality and quantity A serrated knife would have had a problem cutting through the meagre portion of beef.. Also wondered if they had changed their 'butcher' or indeed their chef?. The roast potatoes were also a disaster. My daughter thought the four 'roast' potatoes per portion were new potatoes 'roasted' to soft oblivion TERRIBLE!!

Despite living only a stones throw from this restaurant, I haven’t visited since 2013 when I had such a poor experience that I vowed never to visit again. However, a friend persuaded me to meet there for breakfast back in January and I was so impressed that I took my partner for breakfast there this week. The choice of breakfast options is fantastic and reasonably priced. I had eggs royals which was perfect and my partner had a fantastic full English which looked amazing and was filling and tasty. It is clear that good quality foods were used in both meals and it’s so nice to know that it’s cooked to order and not been hanging around. There is also a super selection of hot and cold drinks and our coffee and peppermint tea (the tea was served in a pot and was proper leaves) were both very good.I am so glad to see this lovely place back to its former glory and it will definitely be a regular for us again. On both of my recent visits we have been served by friendly happy staff ... there was a rather grumpy unfriendly woman on the till on my first visit but the rest of the experience made up for her behaviour.. hopefully she was just having a bad day.Defiantly my new favourite breakfast venue in Dorchester, I’m looking forward to trying the rest of the menu next

You have to pay in advance of getting your meal, which in itself, is rather unusual. Perhaps there is a trust problem in this town? I ordered sandwiches and a burger. It took a long time to arrive though the drinks came more quickly and were nearly done by the time the food arrived. The sandwiches were ok but expensive by other standards. The burger looked like it was taken from the freezer and was dressed up with plenty of salad items and some fairly grotty oversize wedges. The side salad was put into a plastic flowerpot (probably because the garden centre is just across the way) but it was nothing special. The food was okay but not remarkable, but what I did not like at all was the dirty cutlery that was on the table in a large pot with serviettes. There is no excuse for that lack of cleanliness. From what my wife had told me this area has expanded quite a lot over the years and it looks like it has been done at the expense of the quality of food and service. This could be a gold mine but not the present way it is run. There is a large kitchen so perhaps chef needs to assert his skills and reduce the menu down for more quality items for the customers? Most garden centres have food outlets attached these days but this does not rate in my top 10. A shame since Poundbury is a totally fascinating place to visit.

On the 10th October 2018 we stopped for lunch with you on the way to an appointment. All three of us had wedges with our meals, which were soggy and slimey. Like they were cooked and 're heated. Pretty much disgusting to put it politely. The reason we did not say more at the time as we had to get to the urgent important appointment. The service was great and friendly as always, but on this occasion the meal was spoilt by a severe quality problem.I did send an email, but no has replied after four days, so I thought I would post a comment on Trip Advisor.

We recently held a baby shower at The Engine Room. Kelly and the team couldn’t have been more helpful. They sorted out a selection of lovely food to fit our tight budget and arranged some gluten free cake and a low-sugar alternative at the last minute. Some space was also set aside for us well ahead of the time we had booked, which enabled us to decorate and set up ready for surprising the mum to be. I would definitely recommend this for the yummy cakes and helpful staff.Thank you Kelly, we will be back!

Four of us visited The Engine Room this afternoon , Saturday 13th October . There were three assistants working and I’m afraid to say that none of them knew what they were doing ! We had ordered but after a while we had to remind them we were still waiting . When reminded ,they still didn’t look as though they knew ! I saw other customers go up to them with queries as well . It’s such a shame as we have visited The Engine a Room before and it was ok. I don’t think we will be returning again though .

After an out patients appointment at Dorset county hospital fancied a nice cup of coffee. Decided to treat my mum and we went here. It is not far from the hospital. Found a parking space easy. Ordered a flat white and a latte. Prices very reasonable, you order at the counter with your table number and they bring your order to you. Coffee was nice and hot, service is good. This is a lovely place attached to the garden centre, so you can always browse the garden centre and shop as well

Lovely interior of this restaurant, we only stayed for tea but quirky coloured china. Nice clean and different styled seating available from sofas to timber tables and chairs. Very helpful and friendly staff. Note toilets in garden centre attached its a little walk through to find but adds a different touch of looking at the flowers.

I visited this wonderful place yesterday as I had heard people raving about their roasts and thought id give them a try for myself and let me tell you they did not disappoint! this was by far the best roast I have ever had! I myself am a vegetarian but the way that the lamp was cooked made me question my ethics, i was salivating more than Ivan Pavlovs dog when i saw my wives food arrive. the vegetarian roast was exquisite and the service we received was fantastic! the whole restaurant has a lovely warm feeling to it and i defiantly cannot wait to go back.

Visited today with my mum for a coffee and cake. The staff were so helpful, friendly and welcoming. My mother is gluten intolerant and they had such a wide selection available. Will be visiting regularly from now on, as not had many good experiences in Poundbury for atmosphere and service. Keep up the good work.

I bought a steak pasty, hot and fresh and perfectly cooked. I've bought their loaves before and those are also brilliant. Everything is a little pricey but you have to pay for good quality handmade bakes which taste fantastic and are served with care and attention, and they can be fun as well

Went there with my family for a drink and ordered fish and chips to be shared as we already had our lunch but still spent around 50 pound .we ask a rude lady for extra cutlery she very aggressive said that you are paying for 2 but feeding 4 mouth and I will have extra washing to do ...never heard anything like that. She even took our plates away while we were still eating avoid avoid avoid.

The perfect overnight stay in Dorchester, passing through. An excellent price. Central to all amenities, other pubs and nearby fish and chips and the river. Host, Chris, was welcoming and friendly and helpful when asking questions about the nearby areas. Our room was neat and well presented. Overall the atmosphere in the pub itself was friendly and warm. A classic pub and inn!

Was all set to enjoy a coffee in my favourite Costa ( see review Jan 23 ) when I witnessed the best example of managerial skill I have ever seen . I imagine that the customer in question may have underlying social problems . He was unbelievable rude - over a cookie . The abuse that staff were subjected to because they had unfortunately sold out was totally disproportionate. Sir , get a life . Staff , well done for the calm and professional way you handled an extremely unpleasant situation !

Visited the Fun Factory on a rainy day with my baby. To book in, other children in the waiting area were running into his pram. The gates were hard to open. Upon arrival, we were told, that the only available tables were upstairs and there was no lift! I had to carry the baby and pram up the stairs. Walking through the downstairs department was like trying to run through a jungle. We finally got to our table which was covered in what looked like chewed food and saliva and all over the chairs too. I am aware that soft play areas are noisy but this was more than that. I took the baby down to play in the under 3's section which was a tiny cage. There weren't many activities for him to play with. The baby mirror in there was dirty, the ball pit was over crowded. To get on the slide, it was a climb and with a baby, it proves impossible. Older children were coming in the baby section and scaring him and leaving the gate open which I was furious about. The sensory toys were broken. A 7 year old girl was in there throwing balls at him too and I had a go at her mum and told them to get out. I told a member of staff and they did nothing about it. He also had some lunch there which looked cheap and processed. You could literally see the fat dripping off it. You are apparently allowed to take the babies in the older children's play area but I was straight away put off when i saw the filth on some of the children's socks and the rate they were running around! In order to make this a better place you really need to add a lift, make a better play area for babies, get friendlier and more helpful staff, healthier food, clean the place and maybe even give it a revamp, buy more toys for the baby area and in general make it more appealing. Until Fun Factory up their game, I'm certainly not going back. Unless you want your babies to have a day of being in the worst play area of all time, don't come here!
