Best African restaurant i have seen so far in Uk.

Mrs Vivian and Mrs Eniola were very hospitable,great restaurant !

You need to taste their beans cake (Akara). It is really nice

I've eaten pounded yam and ẹfọ riro here - 100%.... and this is where you'll eat the best goat meat pepper soup in Birmingham...& yes, very friendly staff!

Had an amazing experience with the array of African food. I recommend Poundo and Egusi soup.

The worst customer service experience ever and the most terrible African food in Birmingham. This isn’t the first time I ordered for food and they either bring spoilt food or some items are missing from your order! Unethical and unapologetic staff. When you decide to dine in or go in to order takeout they delay and can’t even get the order right most times. Never patronising them or referring ever again!! I am so livid right now.Close up of you can’t handle a business! Horrible food horrible staff horrible customer service

I ordered spaghetti from Aunty it was the best spaghetti I’ve tasted in my life, the seasoning and al dente spaghetti was top tier. This should be part of the menu because I can’t stop loving it. Best thing I’ve ever tasted. 10/10

Efo Riro soup is too too salty, just shake and bones in the soup, even thou I requested for goat meat. Total rip off of my money. The customer care guys was really really nice but kitchen lady was not not at all. Tap water in the bathroom runs hot boiling water. Literally when you come out of bathroom, there is no water to wash your hands. Hopefully people Dont get invested with diarrhoea.

Jollof rice was smoky Jollof. Absolutely perfect. Seafood okra and pounded yam was also fantastic. Didn’t enjoy the suya as much but it wasn’t bad

Wow, we normally frequent a different Nigerian food vendor but we are so glad we tried here, really accommodating of my western pallet (non spicy) but my Nigerian husband was expertly catered for! We will definitely be coming back! Really lovely service and great food! Don’t miss out on a meal here, you won’t regret it!

I had the jollof rice with garnished turkey & the porridge which was delicious as ever, if you'd like to visit, and the service was excellent.

They take care of their customers and deliver orders on time. In terms of food quality, they are exceptional.

This is my 3rd and last time ordering from them Everytime I do the delivery time is shocking I’ve had to wait almost 2hours when it’s not even a 10 minute drive from me absolutely ridiculous with no compasaifod your time aswell they don’t pick up the phone when you try and call either

Flavour was amazing, beautiful Jollof rice, Gizdodo and stew. Portion size for the Jollof, Gizdodo were good, stew was ok, could do with a but more stew and bigger meat portions, fish portion was too small, needed an extra piece for the price. Delivered in good time. overall, really really good, would order from here often.

I was staying in a hotel in Birmingham and ordered some food from this empress African restaurant. The delivery time kept being updated to a later time until it had updated to an hour after the originally stated delivery time. I called the restaurant and asked what was going on. The lady on the phone said the food is coming out right now and will be with us within 10 mins. After 15 mins I called again to be told the same things. I called again after another 15 mins and they were now not picking my calls. The food then came at around 10:30. The jollof rice had a funny taste and smell to it, the turkey was a bit hard like it was cooked a day or so prior. The soup that was with the turkey was nice. Small chops box was average at best, chicken wings were not great but the puffpuff was nice. A very big fish that was well seasoned and looked very appetising until we realised it was raw on the inside, I called the restaurant to let them know. The lady on the phone sounder very insensitive and told me to come in the next day although this was an order placed for delivery. Leaving me and my child without proper food to eat. We had to order McDonald’s as a last resort. I love supporting African businesses but experiences like this are what make people stay away. You guys need to do better to be honest, this is diabolical. This will definitely be taken further.

Hi, I received my order of jollof rice and beef quite late, and unfortunately, it arrived cold. After waiting all day for my meal, I was disappointed that I couldn't even enjoy it properly because the temperature affected the taste. I would appreciate it if you could look into this, as it really impacted my experience. i would like the full amount refunded to me as my food was not up to expected quality and i need to be compensated for this poor customer service on the restaurant and just eats behalf

I would like to say that Vivian is a blessing to this business .She is very dedicated to her job and made sure our orders were ready on time .I kept wondering if she was the owner of this restaurant because of how passionate she was about rendering service .I would definitely be coming back I’m giving the atmosphere 3 stars because it’s too small and not giving . With the quality of food sold here ,it deserves a more spacious environment

After leaving a negative review in the past due to the staff's attitude at Empress, I've revisited twice since then, and all my friends who have also visited have noticed a significant change. The staff, especially those on duty on 4/4/24 around 1400, from the kitchen crew to the lady at the till, were absolutely delightful. I'm pleased to report that the customer service was top-notch, a solid 10/10. They even interacted with my baby, which was a lovely touch. As for the food, it was a perfect 10/10 as well. We enjoyed puffpuff, suya, and amala with abula, and everything was incredibly delicious. Thank you, Empress, for the improvement in staff attitude. It is definitely appreciated.

I do usually order from these guys but will not be ordering again since they were trying to tell me its not bitter or oily It tasted extremely soapy for some reason I’ve had this soup growing up and know exactly what is meant to look like and taste like. It did not taste like ogbono soup or look exactly like it

We visited the restaurant in the evening as we had been in Birmingham for a trip and were craving some “home” food. We checked on Google and saw that this one came highly recommended. When you arrive, you have to scan a QR code and pay online, then the meal is ordered to your table. One thing to note is, they are strictly card only, so cash is not accepted. We sat down and got some Palm Wine and about 30 or so minutes later, the food arrived. The portion is big and we struggled to get through it but it’s better too much than not enough. We got Egusi soup with Eba and Efo Riro with Pounded Yam. Lots of assorted meat and very tender which we loved. It tasted so delicious and home cooked. Not too much oil and seasoning just right. I can’t give any faults about it. I would totally recommend this place. There is even a Suya/Shawarma truck next to it and an African Food store. Any Nigerians/Africans that are in Birmingham, make your way to Empress Bar & Grill!

The atmosphere is chill and the service could be slightly faster but the smoky jollof rice deluxe makes up for all of that! its amazing, tastes like home, super fresh and just scrumptious! shoutout to dolapo and chef vee!

Ended up having food poisoning from the Dodo and gizzard and jollof rice dish. The gizzard was not cooked properly and the jollof rice also tasted incredibly odd. I would avoid ordering either of these dishes from this restaurant.

The service was nice, and they have a very nice attendant called Dolapo. Chef Vee was also amazing. Make sure to tip him. He’s very helpful. The food tastes very good as well.

Food at empress is great, very good for taste of Naija food. The service is always good. I would like to particularly commend Vivian, her attitude is just simply amazing!! She has a positive approach and friendly disposition. Each time I go there her attitude is the same. I travel to empress from Cheltenham. Will be back again soon. I had take out this time but last time I was here and it was not so busy ai sat down and properly enjoyed my Abula and the portion is good.

The food is absolutely disgusting, Jollof rice came with a smell of weed and the taste was like burnt,the meat inside was to hard to chew also Ordered beef also, I couldn't chew all the meat, hard and to cooked ! I threw up after this food swear,my stomach is in horror pain No worth of money, all of it in the bin 🙄🤷‍♀️

Went there with my family. The food was exquisite and fantastic. Music not child friendly. The beef and chicken suya was amazing and price was fair. My children ordered shawarma and the flavours and sauces were on top. Definately go back next time I'm in Birmingham and definitely recommend the beef and chicken suya and jollof rice😁😁😁😍
