One of the best restaurants I've been in the UK! Staff was so friendly and the food was INCREDIBLE! 10/10. If I'm ever in Bristol again I will definetely want to go back! I highly recommend the vegetable soup!

First of all I’d like to say the food here is very good. It’s the second time I’ve been here for that very reason. The reason for the three star review is purely down to the attitude of a waiter and to highlight that staff need extra training. After my partner and I ate our meal we asked for the bill. It was brought over by a waiter, we paid and started to leave. As we started to walk up the stairs another waiter, one who hadn’t dealt with the bill, began to shout “sorry, sorry but you haven’t paid your bill”. I don’t know his name but he was wearing a silver chain. My partner and I responded that we had indeed paid the bill and that he needed to speak to his colleague which he did so. Not a nice way to end what was a really nice meal and it was particularly embarrassing to be called after and accused of not paying in front of a room full of other diners.

BE AWARE!! FOOD POISONING! I experienced food poisoning at this restaurant. I've been vomiting and having terrible diarrhoea since then. The food was disgusting, and the staff were quite rude. Here's what happened: I ordered seafood soup, expecting a delicious broth with mussels and fish, but what I got was far from it. It smelled terrible, and the texture was slimy. I couldn't tell what was in it - blended jellyfish or slugs? I'm not sure. Then, I asked to change my dish to beef udon. The taste wasn't too bad, but it was still too oily and not enjoyable. While I was trying the new dish, a waiter came to me and said, "We will not exclude the soup from your bill because it is already cooked. Is that okay with you?" I politely responded, “Usually when you don’t like a dish, a restaurant excludes it from the bill. But it’s up to you. I would be really grateful if you could show me your great hospitality and exclude it, but no pressure. It’s up to you.” (These are exact quotes) When I got home a few hours later (I was in the restaurant around 6-7pm and came back home around 11pm on March 15, 2024), I started vomiting and couldn't stop. I couldn't sleep, and I'm still vomiting and having diarrhoea now. I don't know what went wrong, but it was definitely because of the udon. I vomited up the dish, and it looked exactly like it did on the plate, so my body must have sensed something wrong with that dish and rejected it. Did they poison my dish because I politely rejected it? I only said, "Sorry, that's not for me." Did they use bad ingredients? Do they keep their kitchen clean? Are my health problems because of some bacteria in their kitchen? I don't know. But please don't make the same mistake I did. Do not come here! And they did not exclude the soup from the bill. But they DID include a 10% service charge! Haha, I paid to be poisoned! UPD: 1) i have tried just one spoon of this soup and the dish wasn’t eaten at all. In good places when you don’t like a dish and it’s not eaten - this dish is excluded. 2) usually it’s enough 4 hours to get first symptoms of food poisoning. I felt nauseous and had stomachache 5 hours later, then i started vomiting and having diarrhoea around 1am. Sorry for confusing above. 3) i leave my reviews when it’s convenient for me. I visited Zizzi on march 3rd. And Roman baths i visited in January 2023, but left a review in March 2024. UPD2: 1) What should i answer for your “it’s not our fault”? I got poisoned. And it is damaging for me, for my health. And i know that it is your fault. I vomited the whole dish. I did not eat after visiting you. I haven’t eaten for 5h before coming to you. I definitely got poisoned there. Calculate the time. 2) really? I politely said that I would be grateful if you could exclude this soup from the bill. This comment ridiculous. Have a read of my quote again. 3) And yeah, I stopped vomiting in 3 days and having diarrhoea in 5 days. And I needed to call 111 two days after being poisoned. Thank God it’s over. Trying to get my normal life back. Dear people, who read this review, do you see that? Do not come to this “restaurant”

Superb meal tonight. Absolutely excellent.

I don't get to come here as often as I like anymore as I now only visit periodically for work but whenever I get over to Bristol, this is my eatery of choice. A fab, family run restaurant. The staff are friendly and happy to engage when I am on my own. I also bring clients - selfish on my part but no-one has ever complained or turned down the offer to go back! My personal favourites include the salt and pepper ribs - a must for me, Beef with Black Bean, Kung Po Chicken, anything with duck in it and almost all of the prawn options. Having said that, I have tried a decent proportion of the menu and not had a bad meal once. It might be "old skool" then then so am I and i heartily recommend it.

I got a severe food poisoning after eating here. Avoid by all means.

Discovered this restaurant yesterday and I have to say, the food was amazing. The duck in plum sauce was probably the best one I have ever eaten. Service was good. 👌

Booking was quick and informal via telephone even on a Saturday evening. Easy to understand menu. Chef specials are hidden at the back tho. Service efficient and speedy. Dishes are tasty and big.

Really shocking an dismissive service from the management !! They only take bookings on their terms, and if they are short staffed, you are told to forget it!! Food may be good generally, but management attitude is not !!

Been meaning to try out thus restaurant for ages. Should have come a lot earlier. I don’t usually write reviews but, in this instance, I can honestly say it’s a little gem and probably the best Chinese for miles. Well done. Definitely will be coming again!

Placed a very large takeaway order for a family gathering and they prepared it and had it ready within 30 mins and the food was absolutely lovely. Not a bad dish in the order (which included 12 dofferent dishes plus crispy duck). All delicious, all cooked perfectly. Couldn’t fault it on food, service or value.

We arrived late towards the end of service, however, we were welcomed and unhurried. We ordered a variety of starters and mains- all food was freshly cooked and to a high-standard. One of our group is hard to please, yet she enjoyed everything and left very satisfied, as we all did. Would definitely come again!

A good find. Duck was fresh and well cooked and spiced. Sliced beef was beautifully soft and well seasoned. Squid tasty and lightly battered. Steamed rice and noodles good. Overall a good meal and recommended

We came for a 70th Birthday 14 of us When we arrived there was 2 helium balloons provided which was a great surprise, most of us ordered the set menu,, which was absolutely amazing I’ve never seen so much food keep coming out , the food was cooked to perfection and really tasty, we all enjoyed our food and a few took food home to where there was so much ,, we enjoyed so much we’ve booked to come back , you all work hard and you can tell thankyou

Booked a table, arrived and no table was held for us. Had to ask for a menu after 15 minutes of being seated. Waiting an hour for food to come out after having to ask for our order to be taken. Had to ask for the bill twice after waiting 30 minutes. Food was decent, not a bad price. Service ruined the entire experience. Will not be returning.

We had a family meal there to celebrate my 70th birthday. There was 15 of us, we had are own private room, which was U shaped, nobody felt left out.The food and service was excellent, will definitely go again. They even had a couple of balloons in the corner. Well done Emperor Court, you made a special occasion more special 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

We booked this restaurant for our anniversary as we wanted to eat Chinese. We thought to give this place a try as we never heard or tried this place before. When we walked-in it didn't look that great from outside and it's well hidden too. But when we went inside we were warmly welcomed and given seat next to the fish tank. It was nice for them to give us a table which is a bit better and different for our anniversary. Food quality was good and portion size was generous. I really enjoyed their chow main and crispy aromatic duck. Overall it's a nice place with delicious food and service is good.

My brother Brett and I come here most Thursday nights. The owner is beautiful and friendly and her staff are always an absolute delight. The food is fantastic. This place is an absolutely wonderful hidden gem 🙂

I lived practically next door to this restaurant for years and never got round to visiting. Silly mistake, it turns out. I had a really excellent takeaway meal, generously sized portions and delicious food, not to mention a friendly welcome. Will definitely come here again.

Lovely Chinese, we picked up a takeaway that was delicious - best beancurd I've had in a long time! Restaurant looked lovely and cosy too.

The food was excellent, the flavours were great and the showmanship with the sizzling king prawns was unexpected but amazing. Service was prompt and we were well catered too. The staff took extra care to listen to my partners allergy requirements and provide clarification to ensure safety and satisfaction. The atmosphere however leaves a little to be desired. Feeling somewhat dated, it struggles to create the cozy atmosphere it tries to imply. This isn't to say it's bad, but small details such as paper tablecloths, plastic chopsticks and ambient lighting could be improved upon. The fish tank was a fun unexpected bonus though. Overall a great restaurant, where you can enjoy some seriously good food away from the chaos of the city. Dishes may be on the pricey side, but you get great value for money.

We haven’t been to Emperor Court for ages but we’re so glad we decided to come here again this evening. The food was excellent, freshly cooked, hot and good quality ingredients. The service was great and we felt very welcome.

First time visit as passing. Went for takeaway. Super friendly waiter staff,ten min wait.Was £5 more than my local but it was very tasty and beef was not stringy or chewy.I would definitely visit again. Had a free bag of prawn crackers and pot of curry sauce.

I am totally overwhelmed by this restaurant the staff doesn’t even know what they sell there it is completely embarrassing these guys definitely needs to do something with the customer service because the way these people tries to speak with you is not on

Negative: I hate paper table cloths in a restaurant. Positive: Excellent food and service. Piping hot and tasty. One of the best Chinese meals I've eaten in a long time. Also, we did notice how clean the restaurant was. Seemed to have a steady flow of custom while we were there.

All dishes are very good. A bowl of plain rice is insane. The portion is too big and can be shared among two people for £2.50 per bowl. Service is very fast and the staffs are very friendly!

This is one of my favourite Chinese food places in Bristol. Absolutely a big fan of their chicken chow mein. Especially during the pandemic we went here a lot for takeaway. The food was always on time and delicious.

Menu items are what you'd expect from any British Chinese restaurant. Quality is good, it meets the price point, as does the atmosphere. Service is great, friendly and attentive. The larger round tables have Lazy Susans. You're really going to get exactly what you expect from a classic Chinese restaurant when you come here. The takeaway options seem a little limited, notably there are decent vegetarian/vegan options on the restaurant menu but none on the takeaway menu. In fact, the only way to get a good vegetarian takeaway meal is to get the vegetarian sharing platter for two, which includes items not listed individually. Strange. Perhaps they accept special requests? Despite this, there were plenty of orders coming in for takeaway/delivery when I dined in on a quiet Tuesday night, some seemingly from regulars, so it can't be bad. There is a pleasantly relaxed environment in this basement restaurant. The interior is a quirky mix of mock Tudor, Chinese nicknacks and a fish tank. The capital spare ribs were nice and the waiters were friendly. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. The kung po chicken was nothing of the sort - it out to be spicy ("HOT", claims the menu) but instead was served with a seemingly out of the bottle sweet and sour sauce - and the squid was served with its membrane still present - meaning we had to literally scrape membrane away from the meat, making it almost inedible. Left with a very unpleasant tingling of salt and/or MSG on the lips.

Nicest staff ever. Peking duck to start, perfect. I went a bit off menu for mains and asked for mixed meat and prawn kung pao. Not a bother at all, huge portion of beef, chicken char sui and prawns, great sauce. Wife had roast pork and beansprouts, again thoroughly delucious. Decent prices, well worth a visit

Just had the most delicious meal at the Emperor Court. Everything was top notch. The staff were fabulous, we were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. They went the extra mile changing a dish to suit our taste. Couldn't recommend highly enough.

Having struggled to find a decent Chinese restaurant or takeaway anywhere near where I live for years, I crave a good Chinese. Working in Bristol for a couple of days so I thought I’d give this a go. Best Chinese food I’ve had in years. Fresh, delicious, generous portions and the friendliest staff and service. Highly recommended and I will be back on future trips to Bristol.

I've stopped going out for Chinese meals as they all seem to be much of a muchness and the food doesn't particularly excite me. However I was in Bristol with my sister & niece and it was decided that we should go for some Chinese food. I googled "best Chinese restaurant in clifton" and the Emperor Court came up so I booked it. We werent disappointed, the food was delicious the only thing that K was disappointed about was that I couldn't squeeze more food in! I'm just gutted now that there's not one near where I live in Manchester. I would highly recommend it!!

Been a good few years since we last visited Emperor Court but it was well worth coming back. The restaurant is very old fashioned and a bit tatty and perhaps a little bright in there. We ordered duck to start followed by fried noodles with spring onions, Szechuan prawns and beer with ginger and spring onions. All the food was reasonably priced given the portion size and very fresh and tasty. Service was very friendly but a little slow

We checked this restaurant when we were walking near and it didn't look that great from outside, but I was shocked of quality of food and service! One of the best (and definitely not high price like in the centre of Bristol) Chinese restaurant which I can recommend to everyone. It's just a shame that I cannot order on UberEats/Deliveroo.

Such a warm welcome back! Always such good food, the set meal was varied with many courses and absolutely delicious with so much of it! (All with a no fuss swap out of a main due to not eating that meat too). It has got to be the best Chinese food in Bristol. Very much look forward to next time.

Some of the nicest Chinese food I’ve ever had! We walked in on Saturday night and were given a table quickly. The food was great and brought to us quickly. Nice atmosphere and decor. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. Definitely will visit again and order takeaway from here. Very reasonably priced for such great quality. 100% recommend if you’re looking for great Chinese food in Bristol!

Food was all really good quality and the service was friendly and attentive.

We had a great meal here, sat next to the fish tank and had a set menu for two (which could have easily fed 3 or 4) amazing food and great portion size!

I cannot rave enough about this place. It took us years to find a good chinese place in Bristol, and if you’re looking, look no further. The staff is super friendly and professional, the service is great, the portions are very generous and the price is on point (considering the portion sizes). And the taste - the best chinese we have come across as I have mentioned before. We have also met the owner Kim, and she is just a gem of a person. It’s a shame it’s not on uber eats, and we have to drive there to pick up our order - but frankly they are always so busy as it is, I don’t blame them. Make sure you book a table or slot your take away in advance, as they get really busy sometimes.

We have had several takeaways from Emperor Court. The food is always absolutely delicious. Portions are really generous, the chicken is of a very high quality and all breast meat. The order is always ready on time and the staff are extremely polite and helpful. The prices are very reasonable considering the size of the portions. I couldn’t recommend more highly.

Came in on a Friday and and seated quickly in a cool nook. Spring roll, crispy duck, and pork sweet and sour dish’s were great. Good flavour, simple, and not too salty. Server was attentive and polite. Will come again!

Great food. Sadly, however, we were left waiting for our takeaway for 25 minutes after the time we were told it would be ready to collect with no communication from the staff and when it finally came - no apology. Not impressed!

This place is so good we come back to it time and again! Service is quick, the staff are very friendly and they have a popular take-away service. The food is cooked fresh, is very tasty and the portions are generous. Crispy Chilli Beef has a wonderful crunch and a sweet, chilli sauce that’s incredibly moreish.
