Please don’t waste your time and money going to this place. The food was very poor, Luke warm and much of it seemed to be microwaved. The service was awful. A waiter who had his earphones in all night, you had to go to him if you needed something and he moved slower than the earth’s tectonic plates. This restaurant doesn’t deserve to survive and probably won’t.

An incredibly poor experience. The food was terrible and the earths tectonic plates move faster than the waiter. No interest, moped with his earphones in and ignored you when you engaged him. Please stay away.

Didn’t know what tapas was, he tried explaining still didn’t understand lol so I only ordered two dishes. Personally I would prefer my shrimp to be de shelled (if that’s how you say it) because it’s messy and a bit off putting especially the eyes however it was very delicious and I definitely recommend! Will return.

One of the worst Spanish tapas bar I have ever been to. We ordered patatas bravas, ham croquettes and pulpo a la gallega. It was awful, we left before finishing our food. The octopus was old, hard to chew, lacked flavour and the bed of potatoes they sit on were not properly cooked. The ham croquettes were from Lidl (we know because we've bought them in the past). The patatas bravas were soggy and again not properly cooked.

Average food. Far too warm inside. No air con. Slow service. Staff avoiding eye contact but friendly when they serve Disappointing.

The service here is absolutely awful. We walked in and stood by the bar for 5 minutes before someone came out and we asked if we could sit down. We weren’t expecting a lot but it would have been nice to have the menu explained. The young man working didn’t come over to take a drinks order so we asked if we needed to order at the bar - which he had a massive attitude about. The drinks were shockingly bad, our margaritas were made with lime cordial and not lime which was unexpected and unpleasant. The pina colada was made with dairy cream and not coconut milk which, as a bartender, I resented. We left before ordering the food because the drinks were so disappointing and the service was so shocking. The atmosphere was also lacking. Had I not been so desperate to leave, I would have questioned the bill. If I could give this place 0 stars I would.

Recently paid a visit to this restaurant and had an excellent experience. This is a no frills tapas restaurant and it was great. The waiter/barman was excellent, friendly and very informative. The food was very good and was excellent value for money. Will definitely return, keep up the good work.

Read lots of good reviews and hoped we were in for a good night. Unfortunately the food was a real let-down. We ordered a good variety to share. The whitebait and Tortilla were good, but I feel that these weren't made in house? (I may be wrong) Other dishes like the Chorizo & lentils and the Beef Rioja stew were an off-putting color and lacked body and taste, like they had been frozen a long time and re-heated. The Octopus we had was also plain awful unfortunately. This is a shame as independent restaurants should really be outclassing the big chains.

Excellent tapas at El Toro tonight. Really really good. Muy bien in fact. Recommended.

Amazing food, good prices and a nice atmosphere

We were the only people dinning on a Saturday evening. Lights weren’t even turned on, I turned them on myself. Food was very average, served cold and lacking flavour. Definitely wouldn’t go back.

Almost didn't go in because it was empty, but SO glad I did! Admittedly it was 8.30pm on a Wednesday night, so probably not the most popular time, but the food was fantastic. The atmosphere probably wasn't 4* when I was there (because no-one else was), but I can imagine it would be great when it's a bit busier! Music playlist was awesome, so that'll do for me... 🙂👍 No longer cash only as stated in earlier reviews.

I always enjoy eating here. Great food, very reasonably priced, and lovely relaxed atmosphere. One of my favourite restaurants in Sheffield.

Nice early dinner offer. Great meatballs. However need to get the patatas bravas sorted out. Not like the ones in Spain (lived there for a year)

Was OK but very warm as they don't have many windows they can open. Service was not fast even though there was only 2 tables occupied. Will come back but not during a hot day.

Great restaurant in Broomhill serving delicious tapas style food freshly served. Just wish had more people to try more of the menu!

Our party of four had a number of plates of food. The goats cheese and beetroot was good. The pork belly was very poor. The paella and garlic prawns were ok but not good. Chocolate Brownie was dry and hard not what you would expect. Perhaps we ate there on a poor night because the majority of reviews are positive.

Avoid if you want anything remotely resembling spanish food. Overpriced and under flavoured. The 'meat platter' looks directly removed from the packet and the 'patatas alioli' is chips with garlic mayo. More like el toro mierda. We will not be back.

If you take the S away from Spain you get the same experience I got paying the bill. The quality was about as good as if they nipped over the road to tesco metro, cleared out the reduced section, came back and dumped it on the table. We left most of the food and went to a different restaurant where they don't serve food that looks like its been fished out of the bins round the back. Avoid this place like the plague (which admittedly would be a more pleasant experience than eating here).

This is an excellent restaurant. Broomhill has many good restaurants, and this is up with the best. It's small, but that adds to its charm. The food is high quality, very good value and the staff always attentive & friendly. It used to be cash only, but now they accept card payment. Highly recommended.

We were new to this part of Sheffield and we took pot luck. We got it right! The food was well presented and tasty. The service was welcoming. Overall would recommend the restaurant.

Our party of 5 visited because of the restaurant's surprisingly high rating, despite its humble appearance. However, the food was uninspiring, unauthentic and certainly not the vibrant, succulent hidden gem we were hoping for. The best dish was the whitebait with mayo but not a squeeze of lemon in sight. Our mojito drinkers thought the drinks tasted like they had been made with lime cordial and the margaritas were not very nice. The tables were not very clean and the chairs were sticky. Sorry to say we do not recommend this experience, despite the waiter's best efforts.

Visited here recently and wow, the best tapas we have ever had, the staff were so attentive and lovely and the restaraunt has a lovely atmosphere, also not to forgot the amazing cocktail's, cannot wait to visit again.

I have been to this restaurant a few times, it offers very tasty food, good quality-value, friendly staff. The food is quite tasty, original and wide variety of dishes with alternative vegetarian food. Food has quite traditional flavour and taste very fresh. I personally like meatballs, chorizo and lentils. They also have a few options for drinks including a variety of wines, beer, cocktails and coffee. Deserts are very generous and tasty. The staff is amazingly friendly and are always s willing to help and suggest dishes if you are unsure, just ask them for advise. If you speak Spanish you can even practice by ordering your food or having a chat with the staff. I definitely recommend this place, you will not get disappointed!

Absolutely rubbish. The paella was more like a packet of savory rice, in fact that is an insult to savory rice. Not Spanish at all. Over priced. I have never written a bad review before but i must warn you.Please don't waste your money

Good experience, nice tapas with good prices

Disappointed to be fair. Bravas didn’t have the right sauce, cold potatoes, pulpo was not fresh or cut typically. Best thing was the service.

La comida no me gustó en absoluto, de 3 tapas, ninguna valdría más que 1 de cada 10. Los platos parecían y sabían a comida enlatada. . . . muy decepcionado. La paella de mi esposo era una broma, solo arroz blanco con algunos mejillones encima, uno de los cuales olía mal. . . Soy español y créanme, estos no tienen los estándares de tapas españolas que uno desearía.

Authentic Spanish tapas and desserts in a lovely setting. Welcoming and friendly Spanish staff who were helpful in recommending dishes. Most of the tapas we had were excellent but a couple were slightly bland. All in all, very enjoyable evening!

The staff are very tentative, it is a lovely cosy atmosphere and the food is absolutely amazing. You get soooo much for your money. 10/10 recommend.

We came to Sheffield as my son has just started University Here and this weekend was his birthday weekend. We wanted somewhere near the halls, and we all love tapas so my husband booked El Toro. My word we were not disappointed- the service was super good, friendly and attentive with warm friendly smiles. The menu is traditional tapas- on the daily board rather than a repeated menu. We had a gorgeous meal - two tapas each, plus extra potato bravas, and olives. There were five of us and we were more than full with the number of dishes we ordered. Lovely atmosphere, very reasonably priced food, lovely wine. My one only very very small criticism is that the sangria was much sweeter than we are used to. But that’s just a personal taste thing. Thank you for a lovely night! Would definitely recommend!

I love tapas so was excited to try here and I wasn’t disappointed. There was a good selection to choose from and all very reasonably priced. I really enjoyed all of the dishes that we chose but I think the prawn dish was possibly the best one. We also ordered Mohitos (two for £10) and to be honest, with it being a restaurant and with them being quite cheap, I wasn’t expecting much!! However, it was the best Mohito I’ve had in ages!!! Great value. The staff were lovely and service was good so overall a great experience! Will definitely be going back.

The most charming tapas restaurant I've ever been to. The staff are really friendly, the food is to die for and the atmosphere is just really really great. Not badly priced and highly recommend the meringues!

I want expecting El Toro to be as good as this so was pleasantly surprised. The service was friendly and excellent, the setting was nice. All the menus are on the walls which is different - but I liked it. Plenty of choice all broken in to categories, seafood vegetarian etc. The food itself was great. Just really well done. Nothing out of this world special - just really well done. It's a must visit in my opinion.

Really really nice calamares, whitebait, aubergine and lamb stew. We liked everything we ordered. Really decent prices and tasty Cocktails. Informal setting and a good early bird offer - 3 tapas and a drink for £13.

Excellent tapas and wine friendly and efficient service

A great little place that we've been to twice now. There's a good selection of tapas with some classics (we always have patatas bravas wherever we go) and some unusual dishes too. Scallops and asparagus were my favourite. Eight dishes, one dessert and two alcoholic drinks came to less than sixty quid, so it was good value too.

Lovely, authentic Spanish tapas

I've been in this place several times, one of my fav in Sheffield, service is good and they have nice tapas, paella valenciana and the ham & cheese croquettes are delicious. My favourite deserts there are flan and merengues. I wouldn't recommend the scallops and octopus tapas, lack of seasoning. They only accept cash. Better to do a reservation as the place is not too big, just a few tables.

Two visits in the last month with family groups. The food is freshly cooked to order and the portions are generous, unlike other tapas I've had before. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The menu is on the wall, very comprehensive. We found it useful to write our orders down. The website needs updating as I couldn't make a reservation by phone. My email was answered quickly though, no problem. It is quite small, very popular, so for four or five people better to book in advance, especially at weekends.

Absolutely wonderful,really friendly lady working and rushed off her feet.Food was i incredible,everything we ordered was delicious and really well priced, there were a few groups of people here,bearing in mind it's not a huge venue,and the atmosphere was warm and people were generally enjoying themselves.Will most certainly be going back.

No matter which day or timing of visit the service is frendly and food tasty. Fresh, well presented but not style over substance; plenty to choose from , meat fish and vegetarian options . desserts delicious. Early evening Early bird offer excellent value before 7 pm.

I had a dinner with friends and we loved this place. The food was very tasty. We ordered a variety of Tapas, including house wine (excellent option). What we most enjoyed was the seafood paella, the beef stew and the seabass with a delicious sauce. I also recommend the duck, was AMAZING!!... We will definitely go back to this restaurant.

Went on Saturday with friends for a bite to eat before going out for the day. We missed breakfast and were too early for tapas (we were there between 11am and 12pm). The sandwiches were really nice and it's a really nice atmosphere. Definitely recommend!

Terrible! Worst place I've eaten in for a long time. Vegetarian tapas- uninspired and overpriced. Edible- but that's it. Both me and my friend very disappointed.Two weeks later I ate at the obvious tapas place in town where the dishes are larger, better value, more varied for vegetarians and actually taste special. Two dishes wecordered looked and tasted virtually the same- veg fried in breadcrumbs.An avacado dip was the size of a large teaspoon dollop in a wide dish. Stingy. Advertises cocktails- only three on the menu but one not available. Two cocktails were badly mixed- mine was just sour juice, two supposedly identical cocktails looked and tasted different! Disgusting, undrinkable, had to get them to make it again and then they were drinkable but not really that nice. If you are vegetarian don't bother going. I have never written a review before but feel that I need to warn the vegetarians out there not to waste their money!

Mi hermana y yo visitamos El Toro el último fin de semana de junio. ¡Reservar con anticipación es definitivamente recomendable porque es muy pequeño! El ambiente allí es relajado y el personal es muy cálido y amable. No tienen menús de tapas en las mesas, por lo que es una buena idea tomar fotografías de las pizarras de la sala para hacer un seguimiento de sus elecciones. No tuvimos que esperar mucho para la comida y todo llegó a la vez. Todo era hermoso, pero la panceta era especialmente buena. No aceptan tarjetas; pero hay un cajero automático justo enfrente. También ofrecen un 10% de descuento para los estudiantes y el personal del NHS. Pedimos seis platos y compartimos una botella de vino, y era un poco más de 20 cada uno, lo que creo que es realmente razonable para la experiencia que tuvimos.

Really good authentic tapas bar, there was plenty of choice on the menu and the specials board. All the food was delicious and the service was very friendly and efficient. It is a warm welcoming small restaurant and I would happily return again.

Viviendo en Broomhill visitamos regularmente El Toro. La comida es siempre fresca, auténtica y sabrosa. El menú es muy variado, con muchas opciones vegetarianas. Nos hicieron sentir muy bienvenidos y nada era demasiado problema, incluso cuando decidí cambiar mi pedido de postres. Hay una fantástica selección de tartas caseras, pasteles y merengues. Definitivamente lo recomendaría a cualquiera que quiera tapas en Sheffield.

Great tapas! Really nice vibe and friendly service, broomhill really has it all

Very delicious tapas particularly liked the manchego cheese and the aubagine. Had a bottle of the house red which was actually very nice. Would recommend to anyone. Have been to Andulucia and the tapas is comparable. Coffee and meranguines are also very good.

Really nice food and service. Cosy place. I can imagine it gets quite packed but it was easy to get a table on Saturday 1pm. Lots of specials and offers with a discount for students. Be aware, cash only. Currently there is a Tesco cash machine over the road that's free to withdraw from. Desserts were limited to cake or meringue. Meringue was massive and didn't taste all that much of anything but if you have a super sweet tooth then it's a good choice. Bottled beer at almost £4 is a rip off.

We always have our coffee at el Toro when in Broomhill. You get a much better coffee here than across the road at Costa and their sandwiches are very reasonable. They also always keep the cafe warm, unlike some. Thoroughly recommended.

Went with my husband, daughter and her boyfriend. Lovely easy, rustic atmosphere, particularly liked the Spanish guitar background music. Food excellent, service excellent

We tried El Toro on a friends recommendation a couple of weeks ago. It was fantastic. Service excellent good advice re dishes and everything hot and tasty. This is an independent tapas restaurant so does not have the extensive list of slightly over processed choices that some may be used to from chains. But if you want fresh tasty food in a charming atmosphere with a great choice of drinks I would give El Toro a try. We will definitely be back.

Went on a Saturday evening. I agree with many other reviewers who have said that the food is very average here; bland and lacking in seasoning. Not bad enough to send anything back (the octopus came pretty close though), but nowhere near good enough to tempt me back for a second visit.

The lemon cake here is amazing! The staff are always very helpful and friendly too. I haven’t tried the meals here yet but they look lovely. The coffee and hot chocolate are very good and there’s a good selection of alcohol. There is paid parking close by on Newbold Lane.
