El Mexicana in Cambridge

I used to love travelling through here to get my burrito. It's changed too much and the staff are rude. I won't be going here again.

Quick and easy food stall close to the office

Never used this company before, didn’t really understand the company system-card only. Assistants weren’t in listening range to help. Ordered a veggie cali burrito. Paid an extra £1.30 for a very small dollop of guacamole. I think there was a bit of veg chilli at one end of my burrito but none at the other. No onions in it. Some of it was warm but most of it was cold. It didn’t taste deliciously Mexican as it was quite bland. Slow service from two assistants. I had time to go to another shop and have a coffee made for me, only to return and wait another 5 mins. Expensive and lacking flavour.

Foods rubbish since they stopped doing tacos. Burritos are really not great. I asked for no rice in my Burrito and they put it in. Also asked for 2 types of meat and although there were 2 types in there pretty sure they halved the portions to make space for the rice I didn’t ask for!

food was absolutely amazing. Had a little issue at ordering that our ticket had not printed out so no one had started preparing our food, but once this was noticed the staff were very quick to resolve it and even gave us a free slushy for our wait. Claudia was very professional and an asset to your company. Also if I didn't say the food was AMAZING 😁

Stopped by El Mexicana today , great food , I loved the chicken tinga with guacamole and extras , delicious, and the staff are very friendly and helpful . Definitely stopping again if there is a chance

Great food. Quick service and nice staff

Have visited this restaurant a few times with the most recent being yesterday. Every time the service has been exceptional and the food just as good. I always recommend El Mexicana to friends and think it’s such a better option than the other food places at the services. Kind staff and good food makes me a happy person :)

It’s always difficult to find a meal on the motorway services when you need to have a gluten free diet. However I was delighted to find not just one meal but options too! Friendly helpful staff could tell me which toppings were gluten free for my loaded nachos (gluten free ingredients but fried in same oil as gluten containing food so depends on your allergy or intolerance) and I was not disappointed. I’ll look forward to visiting again.

Went in and got a chicken burrito and churros, the staff were lovely and helpful with the options, was a young man and what looked like to be his manager, will definitely return

On the 23rd of the April 20:40, order 206. The transaction was rejected on the terminal and I was asked to pay again at the cashier. Then I was charged twice!

There was no employee standing at the counter, I stood at the counter for 5 minutes but no sign of anyone. Instead of wasting away I ordered from the app (not helpful for older generations). Once I completed my order some sort of bell/alarm loudly rung out All of a sudden some half asleep “tim nice but dim” millennial shuffled out from the back (no exchange of words) so I assumed he was a robot missing a communication function began to prepare my food. Watching him was painful, almost as painful as the dry chicken grating down my throat because it’s been sitting in a glorified hostess trolly for the entirety of his shift. Normally when I visit this services I go to another of the eateries but I thought I’d try a healthy option this time. Sod it.. I’d rather get fat than have to deal with this place again, I always wondered why this was the only eatery never to have a queue.. now I understand why! Avoid unless you like a Mexican meal as a side order to disappointment.

Slightly disappointed with my last visit an new ordering system. Before you'd order your food and they would prepare it in front of you now it doesn't work that way and as a result for me it lacks some of the quality that it had before. For an example I ordered a beef burrito but it happened to be lacking a sufficient amount of beef. I noticed my daughters was the same as well as a woman bringing back her order complaining of the same issues whilst we awaited our order. For my burrito needs I'll be using Nana Mexico until this problem is fixed.

I should have read the reviews before ordering. Portions are TINY, one teaspoon full of guacamole, barely any meat and a small spoonful of cheese and that's in response to asking for lots of cheese and guacamole instead of beans. The contents barely came to a third of the box they serve in, and definitely not filling for one lunch for the £9 spent, without even a drink. Won't be returning.

Good flavour, though I wouldn't return. Messed up mine and my partners order the first time - received dismayed eyes when I pointed out the error when it was being made. Additionally, the 'Extra protein' beef option came with about 1 tablespoon of beef chilli that was 90% beans.

Just had a veg and a chicken burrito and fries 2x tea 1 with oat milk everything was loverly. Far better than the usalla mcdonald's and kfc. Served by friendly helpful staff.

Good food but it's quite pricey at the service station compared to McDonald's

Had a burrito for lunch. Cost nearly £10 with a can of coke. The contents of the wrap were mostly cold. Won’t bother again. For the quality, the price is a joke.

Ordering was through a slow/laggy display. No chance of "can I have that". Not a good idea.

New system totally rubbish. Removed peppers and onions and lettuce! Really disappointed as these are staples for a burrito! A burrito without onions??? Also using the screens had the added disadvantage of not being able to use my student discount or adjust things as I would like them such as “just a little bit of salsa or could I have a bit more cheese?” The system also failed in that what is usually a quick process now took 10 mins as three of us were waiting and the lady behind the counter hadn’t heard the beep go off to signify an order. I do think the original “subway style” system was better and the only reason this gets two stars and not one is because the staff themselves are always lovely. Won’t be going again which is a shame because I adore all Mexican food.

The two women working at Cambridge services tonight were so lovely! Really friendly, great customer service, they were really kind to my four year old little boy. Also I’ve never had any food before from your restaurant and the burrito was delicious.

Tacos are unseasoned. Chicken is cold. Overall actual flavour is disgusting

Nice idea offering something different than your usual fast food. They have 'naked burritos' and salad boxes as a healthier option. So why the two stars... The grilled chicken is kept warm in a container with no moisture/ juices - so probably after about 20 minutes it is dry and hard - exactly what we got and that is a big let down. Please also add generous salsa and salad dressing - nobody wants to eat dry leaves. Concept great and it has all the right ingredients but be more attentive to the detail and consider eating it yourself.

Very nice place with tasty mexican food and very friendly personal. I must say, that everything was very delicious. Highly recommended.

Awfully slow service and out of the two men working there, neither knew their own menu as to what goes into a burrito.

The staff was very friendly and explained each product. We ordered the pulled pork loaded nachos with pico de Gallo salsa and definitely recommend. They also have frozen margarita slush which is really good!

Appalling customer service from the lady server at 17:15 on 10/12/21. I was waiting to order for 5 minutes having checked the menu and she didn’t even acknowledge me and instead decided to serve the people who had just arrived. How can you ignore somebody who is waiting and even worse serve somebody else. Well I have been a regular customer with them over the years but you have just lost my custom as I won’t be returning after this disgraceful behaviour. She deserves the sack.looked fed up and no customer service skills whatsoever.

Rip Off place. £2.30 for the large fries that are half size of any other junk food sellers like McD, BurgerK etc.

Went at about midday, was the only one there and service was good. Wish I could say the same for the food ! Got Mexican fries which were average but also got a quesadilla which was absolutely disgusting. I chose the pulled pork which wasn't distinguishable as any meat and tasted like what I imagine dog food tastes like. Was told you can't add sour cream or guac onto the quesadilla which is fair but this wasn't displayed on the menu. The whole thing was wet and horrible. Ended up throwing it away and having a wrap from m and s. Deffo wouldn't eat here again !

A great place for a quick snack or even a big meal at the services. This place has very good branding a nice and easy menu with great food. The chicken and beef is halal, the staff were very helpful. One of their sauces was fairly hot. Next time I'm driving towards Birmingham I'll definitely stop by here again.

My First burrito and I am so glad I picked that over KFC or McDonalds would highly recommend the churros too

A very good place for mexican fast food. Fresh ingredients. The extra hot salsa is delicious and by far the hottest I've had anywhere - it will blow your head off. Really recommended.

Really good food however I was charged £2.40 for an extra which was sweetcorn, that I thought was free because I couldn't see where the extras where on the menu (and the prices) and that I hadn't got some of the other ingredients so I thought it was for free. Also extras elsewhere are normal a pound or less so I thought it was quite pricey.

Really nice and though they were concerned it would be too hot, especially for breakfast, the naked burrito with all the hot items including the cooked down dark chilli sauce was great. It would have been nice if it was warmer in heat as the cheese didn't melt at all.

Consistently great food and good service, especially if Saf serves you. It's possible to have a fairly healthy burrito with veggies, chicken and rice. There are lots of options for fillings and the sweet potato fries are lovely if they're cooked relatively recently. The coffee is surprisingly decent too.

For fast food, this is excellent. I had the burrito, and actually went for 'the beast' - which was far too much food! It is served in a foil wrap which you peel away as you eat. The coffee was not great however.

Well called in at the service station and my usual choice has changed their recipe and as a coeliac I couldn't eat there. The lady who served me was very knowledgeable, and saw my order from start to finish - she was very friendly and helpful - wish I lived closer!

Reached our hotel late at night and I fancied a bite to eat. I went into the services and realised that the only halal place to eat was the noodle bar or El Mexicana and I didn't feel like eating too much so avoided the noodle bar. Ended up getting Tacos from El Mexicana, not knowing what to expect as I had never had a Taco. I was surprised. Absolutely loved it, a brilliant blend of beans and meat, the chicken was fantastic.

Good food, good service, good selection for a reasonable price. We always get a burrito from here! The slushies are really nice and the wedgies are good too.

Had a great burrito, spicy chicken with hot salsa, it was lovely. The fillings are always fresh, the service is great and the food is authentic. Keep it up El Mexicano!

stopped here on our way down to kent, speedy service and fresh tasty food, the sweet potato fries are gorgeous and would definitely recommend, bit pricey for what you get but it's services so it's understandable that it's expensive

I frequentky travel between northamptonshire and ipswich, cambridge services is a regular stop. I used to just pop in m and s for some decent food as the fast food outlets they have there are not to my taste! Well that was until this little gem opened! The burritos are superb and the fact you get to choose everything that goes into it rather than ordering from a set menu is a great idea, i tend to prefer my food hot yet my 2 kids prefer theirs mild they love watching the staff construct their burritos (they are 5 and 7) and the staff interact wonderfully with them! a great pit stop for the hungry commuter and the little ones!

Delayed after bad weather held up ferry crossings and needed to stop for food on the way home. Trying to avoid the big name fast food outlets we tried this one that at least appeared to be different. It wasn't - the food was barely hot, lacked in flavour and only succeeded in taking away the desire for food. I would not choose to eat at one of these eateries again.

I am giving this eatery an average purely because the staff at the time looked, sounded, and acted like they didn't want to be there! Managers need to keep on top of their staff for paying customers.

It was a surprise to find this restaurant there, surrounded by the typical fast food places, but even more surprise was when trying their burritos, really goods. The best option in that service área.

Nos sorprendió gratamente encontrar este lugar cuando paramos en los servicios para el almuerzo. Esperábamos las desabrida cadenas de comida rápida habituales. Nos encanta la comida mexicana. Había mucha variedad, sabor fresco y un precio razonable. Un poco como Barburritos pero no bastante! Además le dará la bienvenida al mercado de comida y volveremos.

Heading home on a long journey we decided to pull in for supper at Cambridge Services, having spotted this Mexican take-away once before, and knowing how my son loves Mexican food. My expectations weren't high as it's a take-away, but boy was I surprised!It operates like a Subway where you choose your ingredients in different stages as you go and the food seems to be priced according to weight as they weigh it at the end. Pick the base - e.g. pita, burrito, salad etc - i went for the salad, the others a burrito, and then your meat filling, then your sauce - word of warning - I like hot sauce but went for only the second hottest which was very fiery hot. There are four degrees of heat. Then add toppings like cheese, guacamoli and sour cream, then choose a side like chips, sweet potato fries etc. The food was absolutely delicious. Fresh, generously portioned and a thoroughly good meal served by friendly staff. Will definitely use this again.

Stop at the extra services at Cambridge and rather than the usual fast food meal we tried El Mexicana. Wonderful, tasty a very filling. Only complaint is it is very difficult to work out the bill it just seemed to be randomly added together.

We were staying in the Hotel which adjoins the Services in which El Mexicana is situated and fancied something different than McDonalds or KFC or Pizza.The staff were so helpful in helping us choose food which they thought would suit us and they were right !! I opted for the roast pork and my partner the spicy beef , both of which were delicious !! Its a pity that this establishment is not on our home doorstep as we would never cook !!
