El Mexicana in Stevenage

My wife is currently in bed with possible food poisoning from this place. We ordered last night and she had some chicken and overnight has been very sick with sickness and diarrhea, be wary!

First time ordering from here. Food was lovely, double wrapped in foil, so really hot. Burrito was huge, churros were delicious. Will order again.

Never received my order, was told someone collected it but never received the food. Now I have to wait for a refund within 7 working days. Not happy to have wasted my money and being left hungry for well over an hour and a half with nobody telling me the food has most likely been delivered to the wrong address. Awful service

It didn't taste like a mexican at all. And only stuffed with rice. No or little sign of black bean and beef. Certainly couldn't taste meat at all. Regretted ordering it. The only good was the order was ready promptly. Maybe they are not selling much as before.

burritos was packed and tasty and only issue was a little too much sauce on the loaded fries but really really nice just wish was a little hotter and was warm when got here

I first tried El Mexicana in Romford and fell in love with it. Then I found it at Baldock services and it was just as good as I remembered from Romford. But I have ordered from the Stevenage store 3 times in the last year or so and each time has disappointed me more than the last. Everything is always wrong, the food is bland and under cooked. You guys need to up your game because you're letting down the entire franchise.

Have got takeaways from here a few times after discovering the chain at a services. I thought my food was tasty and reasonably priced (the dirty fries in particular I think are very good value for money - got them as a side and was too full to eat my main!).

They forgot the chocolate sauce

Dreadful burritos. Blandest burrito I’ve ever tasted literally a dry wrap with some rice beans and some meat. Rip off for the price when there’s pretty much no sauce, no cheese, no guac,no salsa despite adding all of these couldn’t be tasted at all. First time I’ve ever eaten a burrito and honestly not had a single bit of sauce on my hands after. Not sure how this has good reviews other than people having not ever had a good burrito. Rip off going cheap on the more expensive things like cheese guacamole salsa and essentially putting none in. Joke.

Food is nice enough, but the XXL burrito delivered was the same size as the standard one I had a few days before just far more expensive!

I ordered 1 burrito with rice & another without. I received both burritos with rice. For others this isn’t an issue, but for me who has a medical condition and is careful with my carbohydrate intake, this is unacceptable! There is a reason why I ordered a burrito without rice in it, & and my choice should be respected. I am not happy with my order, to say it simply!!!!

Great food, quick delivery. Pulled pork burritos, loaded fries and churros and all were delicious. Only thing, I thought the choc sauce to churros ratio was off – order at least one extra sauce for the 8x churros imo ✌🏻

I ordered beef chilli and chicken burrito and got pulled pork. It was also delivered almost 25 minutes late and was cold on arrival.

No delivery arrived even though it states it was delivered , there phone number is also invalid so you can't phone them really poor service be careful when ordering

Was excited to try this place but was extremely disappointed. Ordered 3 burritos/ wraps for family and all full of rice and little else, blandest Mexican grub I have ever tried. No hint of the cheese supposed to be in mine or the medium heat sauce. Some of the beans were so hard I asked my wife if there were peanuts in it! Oh, and it was barely warm. Could be an off day, but I won’t bother again.

Amazing food however I would suggest putting drinks in a separate bag to the food as it turned the food a bit cold but really delicious anyway!

I ordered at 3:50 and my food wasn’t starting to be made until 4 and then didn’t deliver till nearly 5 no updates rather than the time being changed on the app.

No need for the paper lining it’s difficult to remove when eating !

Falls really short compared to previous orders. And there was no beef whatsoever. Also, why is there always beans when I select “no beans” on the menu? I want to rate it a 1 for this but will give it a 3 to make up for previous meals I’ve had.

Kept changing the delivery window every time it reached it. When the food finally arrived it was cold and tasted like it had come out of a packet.

Lovely food and sauces. Single bag of fries enough for two. Sadly,arrived barely warm, as an hour late, despite my pre-order. If I can plan ahead for busy traffic early evening, why can't JE, eh?

We got the burrito, the rice and beans was underdone. Rice should not have a crunch in them. Check the photo. You can tell the rice is underdone. The distribution of the fillings is very uneven, One bite i had was all jalapenoes. Burrito was also very dry that it didnt feel like a burrito, it felt like a wrap. It is far from proper mexican burrito.

Tortillas were burnt burritos had wrong fillings got wrong sauce for churros which were completely stale

First time ordering from these guys Considering the price I was expecting a lot more then what I got Good portions but very bland food not a lot of flavour in the food Also no can of Coke with my burrito meal deal and also no Jalapeños or Mince beef on my loaded nachos £10.50 for plain nachos with Doritos cheese sauce and horrible guacamole on yummy well worth over a tenner Thanks but no thanks won’t be ordering again

The food was a bit late but when we received the order the tortilla bread was quite soggy on both the burrito and quesedilla which was a shame as the filling was nice. It would have been better if it was toasted as it all fell apart and was quite stodgy.

Food would have been lovely except the loaded fries were covered in coriander despite me asking not too be. I can't eat coriander so purposely did not select the option to add coriander. Spoke to karl D at just eat and he encouraged me to leave a bad review rather then just refund me for the item I was unhappy with. As apparently the option to add aditional extras is entirely ignored due to the recipe used. So sorry for the bad review guys, I didn't want to leave one abd hust get refubded for the mistake, as I know mistakes happen but this was just eats advice to help? If you like and can eat coriander this place is great.

This is the first time we have ordered food from El Mexicana. The food was delicious, still hot and full of flavour. The only issue was one of the meals wasn’t what I ordered. Instead of a naked burrito bowl it was a burrito! I just opened it up and ate the contents!

I was recommended this place. Bit dubious from the price but the burrito was amazing, the fries were great tasting and a huge portion. Great food and in the end I think great for the price! Will be ordering again!

Ordered the quesadilla, it was floppy and cold unfortunately. Usually toasted, but this fell apart. Chips were decent enough. Was a bit underwhelmed. Usually very good.

Ordered a meal deal and no drink. Not think it's worth the amount they are charging.

Very disappointed, order was wrong, nachos were soggy and tasted off and the sour cream was dry and crusty in places. Very expensive for what it was.

We got some quesadillas, which were reallyyyy good. When you come inside don’t be fooled by the small room you have to wait in. 5 min after ordering, this really sweet lady came out and brought us our food :)

Came here today for some quesadillas, there was an issue with the order on my behalf when the food came out, but the woman working today was very kind, apologised and remade the order with the toppings straight away, 10/10 customer service, thank you <3

Ordered nachos with extras (nearly £12) no sour cream, the bean chilli was ok but smashed avocado is not guacamole - add chilli, onions, lime juice! Don’t get me started on the “nacho cheese” which is merely slop from a bucket - no cheese flavour at all and should be the colour of processed cheese slices. The portion was small for the price and had a hard time trying to distinguish the bottom tortilla from the wax paper. Do better guys!!!!

Delicious burrito packed full of flavour and fries were perfect the churros were perfect but shame about the dipping sauce 2 small tubs for 10 sharer please increase the portions also offer combo with both chocolate and dulce sauces

I paid for extra filling but the Burrito was the same size as a normal, which was really disappointing. Really tasty food, just the portion size was poor especially with the price.

The food was okay. We ordered two large burritos. I wasn’t overly keen on the fact you are forced to choose 3 additional fillings even if they weren’t something you wanted. The burritos were okay. One was ordered with Mexican beans, slaw, cheese, sour cream and chicken. The beans and slaw were nice. There was no evidence of cheese or sour cream. The chicken had very little flavour. All in all it was very dry, loads of rice and hardly any flavour. The other burrito was also dry and there was hardly any pork and you weren’t able to taste it. The chips came cold. The churros were okay. Bit hard but that’s to be expected as they weren’t going to be hot and fresh after being packed and delivered. It was alright but not worth the £25.

I can’t recommend this restaurant I read the reviews and wanted to try it for myself and unfortunately the reviews are correct there is a lack of meat there’s no cheese no sauce at least nothing that’s visible. Meat old and tough. Basically got a ricearrioto with cabbage. Sour cream must be hard to find ? Disappointing. Hoped for better. Maybe they had a bad Saturday evening not sure what happened here but could not order again. Regards

While the food was ok, It was a bit bland for me with the pulled pork burrito, I expect bags for flavour with Mexican and I just didn't get that

It's Mexican Fast Food and doesn't work unfortunately. The Chicken Buritto was OK overall, saved by the slaw, but the filling in it was quite dry. The Pulled Pork Quesadilla was uninspiring: chiefly comprising mushed up pork with a sausage-y taste and no real evidence of having any cheese in. The food seems decent enough for a grab-and-go alternative to a McDonalds or a KFC, but it's nowhere near restaurant quality, which is what I personally expect from a Mexican meal.
