This is a nice little Greek restaurant just set back from the seafront in Portsmouth. We had the pita and dips and giant beans to start. Mains were a mixed souvlaki and chicken gyros. All well cooked and tasty although the pork was a bit dry. Had a nice bottle of Greek white wine and were given an Ouzo and watermelon shot with the bill. I’ve not given it a 5 because the waiting staff and kitchen were constantly bickering behind us which spoilt it a bit. Good food though

This was our first time at El Greco and it definitely didn’t disappoint. We made a reservation, which I would recommend as it was very busy. The food was delicious and the portion sizes are very generous. We had a sharing platter to start, I had the chicken gyros for main and my partner the mixed gyros. I would have preferred my gyros to be served all together as a wrap but it was all separate on the plate, although it was still really tasty. All washed down with a recommend bottle of Greek red wine by the staff, who were very attentive and friendly. Would definitely return!

This place was so lively, full and full of life combined with exquisite tastes and traditional Greek music. Hospitable smiles accompanied our dinner rich in flavor and the portions...oh my. You really get your money's worth! Fantastic deserts as well, very polite staff even on a busy night.

Booked 3 days ago and my partner had the booking confirmation email to say the table was booked for tonight.. was out to celebrate me and my partners anniversary.. when we arrived the man asked for my name and said his name we gave wasn’t on the booking for a table for 2 so he showed the man the email to show it was confirmed and he said oh did you not get a call we will call you to confirm it? Nothing states when booking this does it say anything about them calling you What’s the point of an online booking system if so as never had this issue when booking tables before elsewhere. Then he said sorry we full, was rude about it and sent us away.. bad customer service and ruined our evening when obviously was a mistake on their behalf..

This is a cosy restaurant with an authentic Greek feel to the decor. As lovers of Greek food, the food and service was disappointing. It was 1.5 hours before we were served our main course, having seen other customers arriving after us and being served before us. Even catching the eye of serving staff to order more drinks whilst we were waiting proved challenging. Our food plates were generously filled but we would have preferred a smaller portions that were of a higher quality. Mousaka tasted as though it had been reheated many times with half a plate of lettuce. The giros meat was in a gravy. All the salads were smothered in balsamic vinegar. The pitta bread was stale. Was our our meal forgotten about? Our experience is such a shame as this restaurant has the potential to be a great Greek one but there is a definite need for food and service standards improvements.

The resteraunt was small and very noisy. Far too many tables crammed into the place. The staff miserable and not at all welcoming. The service was very poor. They weren't familiar with the type of drinks that were on the menu, and the food took a long time to arrive after ordering. The food itself was good and tasty, and good value for money, but due to the atmosphere of the place, I won't be returning.

This was my second time at El Greco, the first having been a great success. If anything, this visit was even better. Genuinely Greek, the food is great and the staff know their business. I also discovered old Greek classics (the eponymous salad for example) were being rethought and delivered with great imagination. Our small group stayed on well after the food had been eaten too, the whole evening became a delightful event.

El Greco in Portsmouth is a culinary treasure that brings the vibrant flavors of Greece to life. The moment I entered, I was greeted with a warm, welcoming atmosphere and tasteful Mediterranean decor that sets the perfect mood for your meal. The menu is a delightful journey through Greek cuisine, starting with the mezze platter, which includes an array of fresh, flavorful dips like tzatziki and hummus, paired with perfectly crisp pita. For the main course, I had the pork souvlaki, marinated and grilled to perfection, accompanied by fragrant chips and a refreshing Greek salad. For dessert I had the baklava and it was absolutely unreal. I genuinely recommend El Greco to any food lovers in Portsmouth as it’s the best restaurant I’ve been to in ages. Overall, I had a really nice experience and the waitress Fabiana was really helpful and lovely.

Service was slow and not particularly welcoming. The food was average. Avoid the seafood pasta as it only had 4 prawns in it. The lamb chops were nice but the accompanying mushrooms were served in a brown gravy and were cold. The menu promised a lot but sadly did not deliver.

We spent 2 comfortable nights here. The owners kindly let us park up early on the day we arrived and late on the day we left. This enabled us to maximise our time in the Royal Naval Dockyard, which is a couple of steps away. The location is excellent for that and the Gunwharf, very close and full of standard restaurants and many nice shops. The view from our room was fabulous. It was very clean, good bed and lovely shower. Very nice, generous cooked breakfast in the morning. It is a bit noisy from the road but we expected that as the hotel is opposite the Harbour station. We slept with the window open but if you are v noise sensitive you would need it shut. We enjoyed watching the station bustle, where trains buses and boats link up!
