We ate in here on Saturday night and overall it was disappointing. One of the main factors was that the restaurant was freezing and we had to eat the meal with our coats on! There was a real draft coming through the windows. We chose to eat from the Tapas menu - when the food came in dribs and drabs it was warm rather than hot, and not all the food that we had ordered arrived! The girl that served us was very friendly and helpful. When we received the bill we had been charged for the items that never arrived which when I pointed out was quickly rectified.

The only authentic about this "cuban" restaurant is that the owners have strong links with the Cuban Communist Regime, the same one who violates the most basics Humans Rights. They hosted a Communist Event few days ago organized by the cuban embassy in UK (some pictures attached).

We visited here on Saturday 16th Feb, as we were in hyde for the weekend, and had seen the reviews on here about the place. I can honestly say it's one of the best places we have been to, with regards to the staff, quality of food (and drink!!), and the ambiance. As other reviews have stated, do not let the downstairs put you off, as you are led upstairs, where you're made to feel so welcome and relaxed - the Cuban music and decor is a bonus.

The Two of us paid a visit to the restaurant on Sat night 26th Feb after looking at a few reviews on trip adviser. The place its self is just what you expect, rustic, authentic and cosy. We was at first a little disappointed to find out that the menu was only tapas that night and no main meals. However, when we started our tapas we was not disappointed with the flavour and taste. The owner later sat with us and explained that she runs the place on her own as her Sister has now left the business, and that the main meals will be back on this week. Try the authentic cocktails, especially the Mojito, very different. Prices are so cheap as well. Please give it a go with an open mind. I find places like Hyde so limited that authentic restaurants like this need all the support you can give!!

Thought I would give this a try as it had been recommended. First impressions were poor as you have to enter through the pub below and after squeezing past the smokers in the front door and finding a pub that really needs a make over in a big way. But the bar staff were very friendly and efficient and we then decided to take the plunge and go upstairs to the restaurant. Bit odd at first as you feel like your going up to somebody's home but upon entering the restaurant we loved it having been to Cuba and eaten in many local restaurants I felt right at home here the food was fantastic with a massive variety of tapas about 30 in all so plenty to choose from. The only downside was I felt it needed more than one waiter as he was running up and down the stairs like mad and had to work extremely hard to serve us all. but he did a great job always with a smile and very friendly. The owner came up later to see how we had enjoyed the meal and was very friendly and chatted with us for a good 10 minutes about Cuba and Cuban food which really added to my night. The only con I had was there is no actual main meal choice it is all tapas and some lovely desserts. But over all I will be going back and am already looking forward to it

Don't let the strange location of this restaurant put you off! Situated above a rough and ready pub on a main road in Hyde, this restaurant was a surprisingly good find. I have passed this restaurant on many occasions and have always been curious about it. The restaurant itself is adorned with a mish mash of Cuban flags, pictures of Che Guevara and other Cuban artefacts. The atmosphere was relaxed (think Cuban music and lights down low) and the service was really friendly and efficient. Our waitress Sarah was really welcoming and was conversational, without being intrusive. The best bit of our visit though was undoubtedly the food. Two of our party ordered a selection of tapas dishes whilst myself and another member ordered mains (shredded beef with rice, beans and plantain). Not only was the food tasty (the tapas ribs and shredded beef mains were real hits) but the portion sizes were very ample. Even more pleasing was the price-6 tapas dishes, 2 lots of garlic bread, 2 mains, 4 pints and 4 glasses of wine came to just under £80. We left extremely full and would definitely go again.

I'll make it quick: the restaurant is above a pub so if you're in a wheelchair or don't do stairs, you're stuck. The actual restaurant is basically a living room with a bar, it's got Cuban stuff on the wall to remind you you're in a Cuban Restaurant. It needs a lick of paint. The staff seem Cuban and are so relaxed you wonder if someone is actually running the place, if you want efficient dynamic staff, go somewhere else. The food itself though is pretty good even if it does come in dribs and drabs and is served in a manner a market trader would be proud of (lots of shouting who ordered what). The credit card machine was broken, which looking at other peoples reviews is an ongoing problem that never seems to get fixed (I'm sure the tax man would rectify it). They didn't tell usthis until I was about to pay, so I had to walk to morrisons cash machine! To summarise, could be a great little restaurant if only they could be bothered.

El Cuba Libre is above a pretty basic pub in Hyde and you have to through the pub's bar to get to it. Even as a fan of the place I have to say that this doesn't give you a good first impression! Persevere with it though because the food is really good and fantastic value, served up by crazy (nice) lady and her crew of helpers. This isn't a 'professional' outfit, in fact it's like being fed in their own kitchen but all the better for that. The whole family love the place but a small criticism would be that the menu doesn't change and could do with a few new items to liven things up for the regulars.

After driving past El Cuba Libre a number of times, I decided to give it a go, I have always been intrigued by how it would look and what the food would be like, we made a phone call reservation for a Thursday evening, the reservation wasn't needed in the end as the place wasn't full, we walked through the pub lounge bar, following it through, passed the bar then up the stairs. We were greeted and seated by one of the two waitresses on duty who were very good, although one said she was very new to the job and so wasn't sure how things work properly yet (fair enough). We were given menu's and ordered 3 tapas each and a bottle of wine, the wine was served pretty quickly once it had been decided between the waitresses which one was the house wine. The food was served BUT only one tapas at a time, which was really strange, I mean about 5 to 10 mins in-between some of the dishes, I've never experienced things done this way before, although it didn’t present us with any problems. The food was quite nice, all seemed to be cooked from scratch, (may be the reason for delays in service) and everything was served hot and cooked, a slight disappointment was they had run out of barbequed spare ribs ? Very strange for a restaurant but it happens I suppose it is a smallish place. I noticed for some reason a guy appeared from no where and served an adjacent table, I’m not sure if he was the chef or not although he didn’t have any whites on. There wasn’t much atmosphere and the place would defo benefit from polishing up the whole act a bit, a lick of paint and some new flooring would also help, We tried El Cuba Libre, it was okay, but nothing great, so I don’t think I would call back in again. Thanks for a pleasant evening though.

Had passed this place many times and noticed the Tapas Restaurant signs, but was hesitant due to the outward appearance and location. How wrong and how we can miss out in many respects with such a perspective.Decided to give the place a go when I had a surprise guest and trusted the reviews on here. The food is tapas as you know it with a Cuban twist. The offer, food and service make it an unbeatable combination for an inexpensive but good meal out. Forget curry or Italian for a night and give this a try. We found the service excellent. The house wine was good value and at just over £10.00 a bottle worth a try.The Sportsman pub is a revelation also. a community style pub with micro brewery beer of quality and variety at a good price. They do a curry night, quiz and even Spanish conversation sessions. I found the staff friendly, welcoming and helpful.Finding and visiting places like this warms my heart, the owners are making an effort and trying to share their culture, food and hospitality. Visited The Sportsman after looking in the Good Beer Guide for a pub in the area where we could get lunch. The pub is pretty basic, but the beer is good, and the barman offered tasters of three different beers FOC. We had three tapas at a table in the bar; all were excellent, just as good as or better than tapas in Manchester places that cost twice as much. The Cuban lady who runs the food side showed us the upstairs restaurant, which looked really nice. Definitely planning a full meal there soon.

This little restaurant is above a pub which you have to walk through to get to it. It seems you can take drinks up with you, which might be a good idea as the house red wine is not good. We have a special deal of 3 tapas and a glass of wine for £9.95 which seemed very good value. This gave us a chance to try 6 different dishes. They were all piping hot and delicious.

We have visited Cuba Libre 3 times now and found the food consistantly good, the first time we were with a group of about 10 people and my wife and I have visited twice on our own.I must admit the first time I visited I was a little suprised that it was located upstairs in what is a very traditional old fashioned pub.The tapas served here is as good as any that I have tasted and far better than is served up in many of the plastic group restaurants, the atmosphere is jolly and service welcoming.Peter T Hyde.

Either this food tasted amazing or we were really hungry as it seemed to all get devoured very fast. Please don't let the venue above the pub put you off, it may just seem like your typical pub but it is anything but, I would recommend trying this place. Forget about your tapas chains and enjoy something authentic and family run. Good quality food, good quality beer, children friendly....what's not to like?I'm really pleased to have found this place as it is definitely the best meal out I've eaten in Hyde and can't wait to go back.

Been here twice and the food was excellent each time. Don't be put off by the location, which is above a typical Hyde local pub. I must comment on the homemade rice pudding which was the best! Really impressed with this little gem, we'll be repeat customers.

El Cuba Libra is a little restaurant hidden away in the upstairs of an old Hyde pub. We have visited lots of times because the food is excellent, the service is great and the atmosphere is wonderfully Cuban. We always have Tapas as we like to taste lots of different dishes. Its my birthday soon and guess where I will be celebrating!!!! A little gem in the middle of Hyde...love it.

I visited El Cuba Libre on Easter Sunday and I was incredibly impressed. The food was authentic and amazing value for money. I felt like I was away on holiday. If there was a little more room I would have got up to dance as myself and my partner loved the music.I will definitely be going back as we have only tried 6 out of the 17 tapas dishes. Whether your a meat eater or a veggie there's something for everyone. Everything is so tasty and full of flavour. Thanks for a lovely experience.

I've been to El Cuba libra time and time again and most recently went again last night, it just never fails. The food is divine and service can be patchy, but last nights was really good. The food is always worth it though. It's like eating in someone's front room, which is exactly what it was like when we went to Havana, so it's authentic. This is an absolute little gem of a place and I cannot recommend it enough. The prices are always reasonable and the wine list is not the most extensive, but it is very well priced. I always come away feeling full, having enjoyed some really good food and not feeling as though it was an expensive do.The pub is a proper old mans pub, but has own camara pub of the year over and over. Visit. It's kinder full.

El Cuba Libre is above the Sportsman pub and provides the pub grub downstairs. Just had an absolutely cracking 2 quid early bird pub curry (5 to 7pm). Maybe a bit too spicy for our 10 year old but for everyone else you have to give it a go.

But I'm going to..Please please please try this place out..!Even though from the outside, it looks like just another 'old man's pub', there is a wonderful little Cuban restaurant upstairs which serves up delicious food at a great price. The pub incidentally is great too. It has a huge range of real ale and cider, a lovely atmosphere, roaring fire, and real people! Not like alot of the newly renovated gastro pubs full of stuck up peeps! Yeah the decor may be a little tired but the staff and food make you feel so welcome and at home that you soon realise they have their priorities right!GO! You won't be disappointed!

Been looking for a decent Caribbean since the unfortunate passing of The Rolling Chef and to be honest I have struggled. I heard a lot of good things about this place and thought I'd give it a try. Luckily I have found a great Caribbean Restaurant in Tortuga which is by far the best around north east Manchester. I've only tried the Curry Goat but the flavours were great and the portion size for the money was fantastic. I often wonder why a lot of these restaurants do not serve Jollof Rice as an alternative to Rice and Peas but I can say with confidence this place serves the best Rice and Peas that I've ever eaten. Although the photos may look dry, the sauce was underneath the rice so it wasn't dry at all. The amount of tasty delicious goat was overly generous and I certainly will be a returning customer.

Embarrassed to say I have lived in Droylsden over 25 years and have only just visited here for the first time. Safe to say we will definitely be back. The food is flavoursome and authentic. The waitresses are attentive and the atmosphere was lovely. Very reasonably priced too.

ordered my shopping through click & collect online, an expensive amount of shopping, you have to bag your own items, i was disappointed that some items had crushed boxes etc. you can decline items but the guy who brought my crates was nowhere to be seen and i gave up trying to find him and assumed the items were probably fine inside ( they weren't!) on arriving home and storing my shopping i realized the meat i had was short dated ( BB next day) some of my vegetables were already going. i could return the items i was not happy with, but i dont have time instead i will write off the £30ish worth of shopping that was not edible and never go to asda again. i hope reading this you will be more careful than i was as this store either has extremely poor staff that do not care or, more worrying, asda has a policy of pushing damaged/short dated items out to delivery/collection.
