Food was supberb, establishment was clean and the staff were fantastic. Toilets were a little grubby but everything else was tip top. Would highy recommend the Paella de Marisco which is also available as a sharer. First time visit but will return.

Fantastic authentic food. Clean, pleasant surroundings. A lovely waitress. The best tapas we have had outside Spain or the Canaries. Reasonably priced for good food and wine. We will be back when we are next in the area, probably next year. Thank you.

Lunch date with friends - they’re choice but great choice Only ones in there for a while but filled up with locals as we eat Great choice of Tapas all freshly cooked with a mains menu with dishes with a Spanish kick - Spanish lagers and a great burnt cheesecake Would definitely recommend this little gem

Even though we had booked a table for early evening they had run out of both starters and mains, the service was very slow and food was not the best we had tasted. The concept was good but having just returned from Spain it was downhill from there. Shame as I wanted to love it.

Wednesday evening with friends and the tastefully decorated venue was relatively quiet. Tapas starters were generous portions of delicious food. Baby squid was delicious. Main portions were also generous and tasty, and had proper hand cut chips, so simple but most restaurants can’t be bothered to make chips properly , unlike here. I had burnt cheesecake for dessert that was obviously made by the chef and not defrosted rubbish. A treat to have food made from scratch rather than chains that charge the earth. Reasonably priced too. Service was adequate but not amazing that’s the only room for improvement. A fantastic time.

We had friends visit from Australia and so we decided to treat them to a meal here as our previous visits have been very enjoyable. Unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience, the restaurant wasn’t very busy, so there was no ambience, we were seated at a table at the back, this had three big lights above it so it felt we were under spotlights. The one positive was the waitress was very good, but when we ordered our wine another waiter came to the table with it already opened and just put in the middle of the table and walked away. My friend from Australia said ‘looks like we are pouring our own wine then’. I would have at least expected them to pour the first glass for us or give one of the group a taste to make sure we were happy with it. So on to the menu, all I can say is that compared to previous visits it was extremely restricted, just one A4 sheet of paper. I can understand that on a quiet Wednesday night in Cardiff you may have to have a smaller menu, but this should be explained when you book it. The food was ok, but nothing that would get me to rush back. Unfortunately Bar 44 has now lost one of its customers, I doubt whether I will return.
