An Oxford hidden gem, great food and fast and helpful service. Menu rotates throughout the week, so be sure to come on the day that matches your tastes, and in addition there is a lively specials board. No reservation and it is deservedly always busy, so plan accordingly.

Very inventive sushi! I like the restaurant’s ability to take risks, but a lot of them didn’t pay off. Like the minced beef gunkan was actually awful. The natto handroll also had barely any natto in it and tasted like you were eating plain rice. But they did the classics very well and redeemed themselves definitely. All the nigiri in the mixed platter were to die for. Pickled vegetables were also something I’d never tried with sushi before but I highly recommend, a perfect palate cleanser.

It tasted exactly like a Japanese set meal restaurant. I ate the chicken cutlet, and it had a Japanese home-style taste that reminded me of a Japanese set meal restaurant. We had set dates for sushi and dinner, but lunch seemed to be available at any time. Also, it felt like everyone was seated together, so I didn't feel like I was relaxing in a private room. There may be a line up, but I was able to get in easily. I was in luck! ! I would definitely like to visit again when I come to Oxford.

A charming restaurant, with fantastic truly authentic Japanese food, at surprisingly good value as well. It's a little cramped inside and you often end up sharing a table with other parties, but if you're not after formal dining we would strongly recommend and will visit again! (Sushi is also only on Thursday currently which is a shame and something to be knowledgeable of, but don't let that put you off going other days of the week)

Small restaurant. We arrived shortly after it opened in the evening, and most of the tables had gone. The restaurant does have a high turnover, orders are taken quickly, the food is quickly served and there is not a long wait for the bill. All achieved without thinking you are being rushed out of the door. Some days appear to be Sushi only days. This was the case when we ate.

The food was fresh with big portions, the service staff were friendly. Came here for dinner with a friend and both of us ordered the Chicken Katsu with rice. The atmosphere is cosy which is what makes this restaurant unique, although some may not prefer such a cosy space where they will request that you share a table with others. It’s all part of maximising the number of seat-in customers given the long queue during mealtimes.

Any review less than 5 stars is simply incorrect. I have been visiting Edamame for the past 4 years and have never been disappointed. Sushi nights on Thursday are amazing, eel nigiri is my personal recommendation if it is on the specials! This is an insult to Japanese food. Watery tasteless food. We ordered £48 of food. Rice cold. The Edamame was straight out of a frozen bag. The veg dish was like a Birdseye bag of frozen mixed veg stir fry with a little five spice added and watered down soy sauce gravy. Octopus pieces in takoyaki was too hard & majorly DRY. Chicken Katsu was fine (difficult to get wrong). Plum wine was nice.

Edamame is a nice little Japanese restaurant with traditional home cooking. There is usually already a small line waiting in front of the door, so that when guests leave the restaurant, the next group is let in. Pork curry and salmon teriyaki were very tasty.

We only visited one restaurant in Oxford and it was a very good choice. The restaurant is very small, and does not have air conditioning, but has several fans throughout the room. The ramen is ok although not exceptional because there are pieces of corn in it and I find that quite strange, on the other hand, it did a lot of good given that it was very hot!! The lacquered salmon was a real delight!!

I adore this little Japanese cuisine place!! Highly recommended what I ordered in the photos. I think it is charming when they keep it cozy and small. One to three customers per group have to share a table with other groups unless you come in bigger group. It is first come first served, you may have to wait in a line for awhile during their busy hours, not ideal in the cold but I can say it's worth it. The food is so fresh and also affordable. The miso soup tasted authentic. I quite enjoyed their plum wine as well. Double-check to make sure the server got your order correctly and that it didn't get mix up with other customer's on the same table like what happened to us. Anyway, I would love to come back to try different menus!

We recently dined at Edamame restaurant in Oxford and had an amazing culinary experience. We started with the refreshing edamame salad, a perfect blend of crispiness and flavors. Heard great things about this place and have been wanting to try for ages! unfortunately there’s always a long line outside and so I only managed to get in today after trying three separate times. I had the yakiniku beef special (£9), miso soup and rice, and my vegan friend got the tofu steak. We also got the buttered potatoes, which were really good (£4). The miso soup was amazing and the tofu was soft and well seasoned, but I thought the beef was a bit tough and lacked sweetness. we were seated quite intimately with two other pairs and the turnover rate at this restaurant is quite high, so we spent only about an hour there.

Gonna be real here: the first time I went on a non-sushi night I had such high expectations since my friends recommended it so often but I was a BIT underwhelmed. Victim of my own expectations, really, cause the food (I had stir-fried squid) was good but not show-stopping. Then I went on a Thursday night, sushi night, and was STUNNED. I was excited to visit the place and have my first physical meeting with my research supervisor. We ordered food, which was decent and took a reasonable amount of time to prepare. When we were done eating the waiter took our bowls and shortly returned and asked us to leave since there was a line outside. That was rude and disappointing. I wasn't expecting to be asked to leave a restaurant after buying food from it, especially in the middle of a conversation . Moreover, if it is their policy then it is poorly thought out. I might never visit the place again, however, I recommend that they change that immediately if it is their policy. Once again, I am extremely disappointed!

Okay so, usually we get extremely good service and food from this place. However this time around, they sent us away with whatever the hell you see below. The regular sized pepperoni were cut into smaller triangles, as opposed to before when they did not do this. Why? What could possibly be the point? Yes it tasted fine, but when I get a pepperoni pizza I want at least some effort with the amount of pepperoni I get on it...

Friendly little shop, the food is better than expected. We ordered dry-fried beef river noodles, beef brisket rice noodles, Xingzhou fried rice and corn chicken rice. The dry-fried beef ho and Xingzhou fried rice are well done, dry enough but not stale. The other two discs are average, but they are better than other Chinese Takeaways in Oxford. The price is okay, not too expensive, usually around 9 pounds for butterfly rice. Parking is available in front of the hotel, which is very convenient.
