Dukes Head Tham's Restaurant & Bar in King's Lynn and West Norfolk

We’ve eaten here several times since moving to the area. The food is always delicious, the beer well-kept, and the staff delightful. Give it a go, you won’t regret it!

We arrived after 8pm and shown a table without any issues. Food served exceptionally quickly. Hot, delicious and plenty there. Would highly recommend.

Great service from Kim and the team. Noticed when your glass was getting empty and great selection from the bar. Good recommendations of dishes Quarter duck was delicious Its up for sale I hope it doesn't close and the business remains. Book a table!

I would definitely recommend this restaurant! Very yummy food, great starters and mains. The best Chinese food I’ve had in a very long time! You’re spoilt for choice, there are so many nice dishes to choose from! The customer service is also very excellent.

We saw positive reviews on TripAdvisor before our self-catering holiday in Norfolk and saw good hygiene rating so gave it a go for a takeaway. Wasn't disappointed. Very friendly service and able to cater for mine and my son's dietary needs confidently. The food itself was delicious. Not the best we have ever had but would be happy to have again if we were in the area. Food was fresh and flavoursome, good portions and didn't have that thirst from oversalted food that you can get from some chinese food.

We really enjoyed our visit here. We were on holiday from London and visited one evening. The pub is lovely and cosy. The staff were all friendly and helpful . The food was really nice. The menu is large and there were specials of the day as well - so there was a good choice. All the dishes we had were good and portions were generous. Would recommend.

I've been here three times. All three times the food has had no real taste despite ordering different dishes. Only real plus point is that it's a pub also.

We arrived after booking dinner for 6.30 pm. The bar area had a few people standing around with their coats on, saying nothing, it was very cold, unfriendly! We were asked to sit in the bar area with our drinks, until THEY were ready for us! After half an hour a waitress turned up to take our order! We were led into a freezing cold restaurant with no atmosphere, I kept my coat on! The starters were adequate but unfortunately my chicken main was not very good, the chicken tasted boiled! No I would not recommend this pub nor restaurant!

we went 4 our daughters 40th THE GOOD POINTS the food was lovely ,THE BAD POINTS was very cold in there we had to eat with our coats on the staff were not very friendly in fact they did not speak they brought our cake out that was it when i phone to book was told they would all sing but they did not if we had not seen it coming it would have just been but on the table ,My 15 year old grandaughter said it like sitting in a morgue ,we had more fun when we left with our party poppers and laughing about what we had just experianced in side if not i would have cried ,really WISHED i had visited before we had booked ,we all learn by our mistakes this was one of them

Whilst on a visit from London I had the joy to be able to spend time at this lovely family ran restaurant and pub. I've since been back again, on my second trip down to Norfolk. The atmosphere is so homely, perfect for any night. Coming straight from the beach with friends we rounded up the day with a chilled pint and an ensemble of delicious Malaysian-Cantonese food. The range of food styles and flavours was second to none. Everything about this place is authentic, the food, the family, the warm log fire place burning away. So if you want something genuine, head to Tham's as I for one am very glad I stumbled upon such a gem.

My boyfriend and I visited Dukes Head Tham's last weekend. We arrived there quite annoyed due to a ridiculously high cab fare, but Tham made us feel so welcome and got us a drink straight away! The food was really delicious, I had the prawns with garlic which I'd highly recommend. Tham is so friendly and we really enjoyed talking to him. He even gave us a lift back to our Airbnb which is the kindest thing anyone's ever done for us!! Thank you Tham. See you again soon when we're back in Norfolk!

Totally enjoyed the food and vibe, an old fashioned English Pub with modern Asian food that’s equal to London Chinatown. Locals as well as tourists are welcome equally by the owner Publican Tham.

The food is fabulous - I mean REALLY fabulous! Lots of choice giving a Malaysian twist to Chinese food. We have been fed by Tham on and off for about 30+ years and his food is as good now as it’s always been. Look out for seasonal specials. Service is attentive and friendly

It comes round once a year normally just as we are getting over all the Western celebrations.

We have had three take-away meals in the past few months having moved into the area recently.

We often vist Thams for a takeaway or popping in for a meal the food is good the service is good and good beers on tap and very reasonable priced there’s always a good atmosphere in there too with the often pub quiz as well not to be missed try it soon.

Typical old Norfolk village pub that would most likely have closed down if not for the restaurant - can go in just for a drink but most customers are there to eat or collect takeaways. Characterful and original inside, restaurant is spread over 3 or 4 small rooms so atmosphere is cosy, plenty of customers even on a Wednesday evening. Service is polite, friendly and efficient yet unobtrusive. Best Chinese food we have eaten - plenty of choice, some different items not to be found on the usual UK Chinese restaurant menu. Fish is not cheap but well worth the price. Cod with lemon and honey was thickest piece of cod loin I have seen, sea bass in soy sauce consisted of 2 decent sized fillets, both dishes tasted lovely, none of the gooey sweet sauce you see elsewhere. Veg side dishes were generous and fresh. Ate too much but had none of the yucked off feeling or parched throat you can get elsewhere!

Visited lunchtime today with my husband after being highly recommended by a friend. The food was amazing. Really fresh and hot and was the best Chinese food we have eaten. We were given a lovely friendly welcome and look forward to our next visit.

We visited Thams (Dukes Head) just before Christmas. It was very busy but the service and the food was excellent.

We were on the A148 between Kings Lynn and Fakenham, on a |Saturday evening, looking for a place for supper, and came across the Kings Head purely by chance.

We were staying in a holiday cottage nearby so decided to order a takeaway from this place.the food was very high quality for the price which was average take out prices,place also delivers. very highly recommended

Fantastic pub with great pub food and Sunday roasts. Twinned with an amazing Chinese restaurant. Perfect combo! Staff are always friendly. Take always are quality and used by us regularly. I even had a dish specially made on one occasion that was not on the menu.

The pedigree for this restaurant at first left me concerned and then curious. Fusion food at its best. Essentially an old English pub with all the trappings and decorations you would expect (circa 1663) and yet it is a Chinese, Cantonese, Japanese and English fine...

Having come upon this little gem on my Norfolk holiday its only fair to tell other customers who would I am sure love to visit this welcoming venue. The food be it English or Chinese is superb & the beers really well kept & served. Parking is easy as it has its own carpark & at the front a full length layby which even takes caravans. At the rear is a private"paradise" with wooden tables & a variety of lovely plants & vines.....SO RELAXING A MUST!!!

Rather surprised that a restaurant would choose to close in July,looking forward to dining there as the reviews were positive, to find it closed for the owners to go away, everyone needs a break but July?

We visit here when we can , we have brought family members for meals and had many take aways ! . Very tasty dishes have never come across anything I/we don't like . Food is good quality and cooked as it should be !!!! . Service is also good !! Definitely recommend Thams !

Have been a few times after being recommended always find food very tasty and think it's value for money service is somtimes a little slow but I personally don't mind that would recommend it if you like good chinese food

Our usual Mongolian style lamb was as excellent as on a couple of previous trips. The hospitality is great and it's a venue we look forward to on our few visits to North Norfolk. But don't ask for Caffrey's - the barrel is empty.

It's a fantastic pub with great Chinese food! I hear the sunday lunches are fantastic as I have herd but sadly I have never got there to actually try one... I'm making that my next plan!

This place is a little diamond around these parts. Warm and cosy pub, friendly country atmosphere, great selection of beers and drinks, and while they do offer a selection of standard pub food (eg: roasts etc) - their speciality is Asian cuisine: Chinese (Cantonese), Malaysian or East Asian fusion, so picking something from their Asian menu is absolutely the way to go.Highly recommend choosing from the daily selection on Tham's specials board - his prawn dishes are always especially delicious.Easy parking, dog friendly - it's a great place for lunch.Tip: book ahead - especially on weekends, because it packs out.

we visited this establishment a few weeks ago for lunch, where we met the owner who has a very dry but good sense of humour.we chose food off the chinese menu instead of the lunch menu, the food was good, served hot. and adequate portions.I can not wait to try the take away food as we live close enough to enjoy it.First impressions were good so will go again.

We visited for a family party spanning three generatiions and found dishes to everyone's liking.A very friendly welcome and an interesting menu, largely familiar Chinese favourites but with less common dishes too adding Vietnamese, Thai and Japanese options.No MSG here, so you don't wake up feeling dehydrated.Recommended for an informal, relaxed meal.

Visited on a Friday evening and lead to our lovely table. The staff were attentive and the food choice was amazing.The food was so tasty and plentiful but the staff do give you enough time in between courses to deal with the next one. Highly recommended.

Thams doubles as both the village pub and a popular restaurant/ take away. The friendly welcome by Tham and his wife Kim is refreshing in this fast food age and it's astonishing how many names they remember. The staff are generally students from the village and I found them informative and helpful. The food is in fact a mix of chinese/thai/Malaysia but is always tasty, freshly cooked, presented in generous portions and very reasonably priced.Although Thams is not a glitzy stainless steel emporium, it is all the better for it. It is a warm friendly welcoming hostelry and West Rudham would be the poorer without it

I have had several meals at Tham's and have never been disappointed. The staff are really helpfull and if you are not sure what to order, or the amount then the staff will help you to decide ( I can really recommend the mixed starter ) Enjoy..

there are better places to eat in Norfolk, unfortunately this isn't one of them, food mediocre, the chicken wasn't cooked and the wine terrible. Perhaps we just went on a bad day!

Fell upon this place totally by accident had two tired children and couldn't get into another eating establishment up the road so this was purely by chance. Thought it was just a pub but its also the local Chinese resturant and takeaway, it was that good we came the next night and brought my parents. The owner Mr Tham was extremely pleasant and very good with the kids as well and a really friendly welcome and the food we had the second night has to be one of the best chineses I've ever had! Couldn't recommend this enough

On route from Derbyshire to Cromer we happen to call at The Dukes Head, only because it was lunch time and we were hungry. What a delight, we had a warm friendly reception from Tham, who was chatty and attentative. The food, of which there was both an English and Chinese/Malaysian menu was delicious, hot, well presented and ample portions. We would recommend this spotless establishment for good food and friendly atmosphere. We are only sorry that it's not one of our local.

Six of went on Tuesday evening. Rang to see if we could be fitted in literally five mins before getting there. Tham is a very jolly man. The food was delicious. We choose some thing different so did lots of trying other dishes. With it being a pub even better because you can have a pint of beer on tap. Chicken in garlic was my favourite. Shall definitely call again. Could become my new take away if I move to Norfolk.

This is honestly the best food i have ever tried. The manager is hilarious and the staff are all welcoming and very friendly. They let you mix and match, dont force anything on you and are an all round excellent place. I would defiantly recommend the satay chicken or prawns for a main. Thank me later :D Overall, the atmosphere and food are at suchh a high level, I'm surprised they dont have a chain:)

Can't thank the Tham family and their staff enough for two great evenings at the Dukes Head Tham's during our recent visit to Norfolk. Went with a group of friends and got to try many dishes. Lovely charming atmosphere and amazing food. We even got to try some mango prawns - which I will be thinking about for a long time! The desserts are also highly recommended. Will be back!

Took the wife and in laws out for dinner. Hadn't been for a while but Tham remembered us right away. Lovely greating. A huge smile and warm laugh. Sat and had a drink in the front bar, looking at menus. Fantastic set meals or a good range of Chinese dishes. Everything is fresh and homemade. Had set course C. Outstanding! Sesame toast, spring rolls, chicken and satay sauce with ribs. Duck and pancakes. King prawns, chinese veg, pepper chicken and sizzling beef with fried rice. Movenpick ice cream with coffee. Thoroughly enjoyed it all. Looked after the whole meal. Great atmosphere in an old 17th century pub. Couples, families or parties.

Fancied something different when on holiday so we drove over to this pub for dinner. Rather different location for a this type of restaurant (a country pub) but was a good experience. The lady who worked there seemed a bit abrupt but the gentleman (who I believe was the owner) was friendly and provided good customer service. We went straight into the mains and shared the BBQ chicken, egg fried rice, crackers, singapore fried rice and mushrooms in a garlic sauce. Due to bad experiences with takeaways, my husband tends to avoid this type of food but we all thoroughly enjoyed the evening and the garlic mushrooms were to die for. We would return if we were in the area again and would recommened for people to try it out.

Visited here on a Sunday evening. Nice warm welcome, good choice of menu, pub is very old but adds to its charm. We had a couple of drinks, shared a starter, 2 mains and sides each, very reasonably priced and good service. Pub does take away too but this didn't affect our service or quality of food. Mixture of locals and holiday makers. Food doesn't contain MSG so could taste the food rather than the additives. Would recommend.

Back again what more do I need to say. A warm welcome as usual in this restaurant / pub the bar staff very friendly in this small bar area before the meal. Escorted to our a table then sat down and enjoyed a fantastic meal. Another great night out again must return to try the Sunday lunch I am sure I will not be disappointed.

Food was excellent. Fast service. First time for us and we went on a Friday night. Not too busy so it was not a long time for food but even if it was longer it would have been worth it. The food was delicious.

This is my local Chinese Restaurant, well within walking distance of my home. Situated in a fifteenth century coaching house at one side of the busy A148 road Tham's is a restaurant where you can easily eat too much! Carefully designed westernised Chinese dishes served in a quiet, olde worlde atmosphere with perhaps a little, non intrusive local gossip going on in the background. Good wine list and also a pub bar area. Free parking in the layby outside.

After doing an enjoyable walk around East rudham we decided to try the Dukes head for lunch. We are so pleased we did. We were given a friendly welcome, both from tham and his wife and also from the locals who were having a pint. The menu was vast. Three of us had Chinese food, the crispy pork was delicious and the other had an English option which was good too. All was reasonably priced. We look forward to returning soon.

I cannot help but to continue to recommend Mongolian Lamb, but the other dishes too are all worth considering. The host and staff are warm and friendly and are delighted to help if necessary.A nice old pub atmosphere, plenty of parking.

Nipped in here as a last minute take away dinner for Valentine's Day as we wanted to relax and drink champagne at home without having to drive anywhere (Norfolk country life.....!!)Ordered around 8:30/9ish which was no problem (many other local pubs had stopped serving).Food was very quick to arrive we only just managed to fit in a drink at the bar.Food once we got home was hot and very tasty. The mixed starter for two was lovely and some of the best satay sauce I have tasted. Only reason for loss of full stars was my crispy beef - it was so crispy that I questioned if there was any beef within the batter!!!Wouldn't order the crispy beef again but hasn't put me off going back as the rest of the food was good. A great (and unique) service for the local and surrounding villages.

Yet another great meal , good quality food, excellent bottle of Sancerre , and the big surprise is the home made English deserts the best pavlova we have eaten for many a year

We had had a busy day and decided to g out last minute. Tham's was a great choice, we have visited here on a few occasion . The food as usual was excellent. It is far superior to othe Chinese restaurants. They also do take away. If you are in the area defiantly worth a visit.

Returning from Norwich on New Years Day, the question of where to eat became an issue as the selection of somewhere to eat on this particular Bank proved to be difficult. The IPhone came up with Thams. We phoned, yes of course, was the answer, what time was the question.Brilliant hospitality, in what is a country pub, providing excellent Chinese food. No pomp or ceremony, just good service providing a good choice of freshly prepared food nothing too much trouble, but in a very low key way.Considering the amount that we consumed, the price was great for what turned out to be a birthday treat. Thanks Tham for making my birthday a great day out. We will be seeing you again.

We had visited Thams who produced great choice of food on a mixed menu. The service poor which was nothing to do with the three your people waiting on tables. There was a table of 13 who were difficult and delayed our meal. The staff kept coming over and apologising. However, when our main course arrived they had got the order wrong - the eggs fried rice was dry and looked as though it had stood in the bowl for a while before getting to our table. Can not understand why they did not offer to discount the bill or to remove the drinks charge which was only small 2 lemonades -

Had a takeaway from here on saturday and it was just divine, so fresh and delicious. Totally different from high st takeaways.

Looks like an old faqshioned coutry pub, in a small village, but it hides a superb cantonese restaurant and take-away. Food is amazing, service is excellent and if you just want a pint it is still a great village oub. It ticks every box. Tjhey also do takeaways.

Although we are unable to visit Thams as often as we would like to, we took a friend along last night, and as usual the welcome was warm, the food was beautiful, the service efficient and very friendly, and we all came home very happy (and very full), so all we can add is that if you want somewhere really special for a great night out, Tham's is the place - you won't be disappointed in any way!

We want to this restaurant while visiting North Norfolk we have been to this area many times and there are some great restaurants, unfortunately this is not one on the them.We arrived at 6.30 as we like to eat early we where greeted by staff that seemed to lack any customer service and seemed more interested in take aŵays, we ordered mixed starters when they arrived asked for a finger bowl we where told that this could not be provided as there where no lemons? When the main course arrived we have never tasted anything more inedible barely cooked chicken in cold vinager and rare onion. We asked for soya sauce which never arrived, we where not the only customers in the restaurants who wondered if they would get any kind of service and you have to listen to the phone constantly ringing for take aways and staff running around dealing with these you do feel like you are a inconvinance.We will never visit this restaurant again and suggest you stay away!

This is the best Chinese food I have ever had. We went to Thams as a mixed age family group. Everyone really enjoyed their meal. There are many different dishes which you don't see at other Chinese restaurants. The pub has a good atmosphere with friendly staff. I would have given them an excellent but we did not get some of our side orders but in fairness to them it was very busy and they were very apologetic.

I love this pub! I ate there a couple of times when on an intensive driving course, on the recommendation of both my instructor and the B&B owner. Given how rural the village is, with no street lighting, I was even given a torch to walk there, and it was well worth it. I had the most fantastic spring roles followed by a great chicken main. Really good customer service as well.

My wife & I were really looking forward to a semi celebration meal and after hearing of the good report of this establishment we gave it a try.We booked in advance, on arrival we were shown into a back room with no character. We were asked what we would like to order so we settled for the set meal at £22 pp. We were not offered any prawn crackers and I asked if I could substitute the chicken & sweetcorn soup for a different soup all priced at £3:90 this seemed a big problem for the waiter in the end I did get a Won Ton soup but it seemed a hard task.After waiting some time we received our starter, bit basic, the satay chicken skewer at one time I thought it was not chicken but squid?? then after some further waiting we received the main. The rice was very nice and hot, the beef in black bean sauce was very tender, the king prawns & water chestnut was just about eatable being very tough and all you could taste was vinegar, the chicken satay was served on a skillet and after 5 minutes the satay sauce has broken into a sloppy mess. The staff made you feel as if you were not a customer. I have had better for less, the bill for two came to just under £45 .Not impressed at all, a lot of money for very little in service, quality and value. Will not bother again, very, very disappointed. I write & comment as I see it, to some it may be fantastic but the way I look at a food outlet is that you work hard for your money and you do not expect to be served up something that is not to acceptable standards and quality. If I have a poor quality meal I walk away and do not return But a good meal I will always show my appreciation and thanks, I hope that this is of use to you but you can always try it yourself. One of the best Sunday lunches you can get.......and are happy to give a doggy bag if you cannot finish their mammoth portions!! Chinese food is excellent too. Tham is always on hand and really helpful and friendly. Very good value and quality ( and quantity!!LOL)Doesn't look much from the outside and the inside is a bit tired, but, the food and service make up for it!!

This pub come chinese restaurant serves OK chinese food but has no competition for sit-down chinese food within 20 miles and it really shows. I have dined and purchased takeways from here for over 10 years and rarely had a memorable meal (and some I wish I could forget) except tonight!As I was passing, I ordered a takeway and was asked you want food quickly? Well after an hour of pleading for my food eventually gave up. When I told Tam the owner that I had never waited an hour for a takeaway, he cheerfully explained that everyone waits an hour for their food when they are busy and clearly I hadn't really lived!Fortunately I live a bit closer to the much more popular Silk 2 in Heacham so not going back won't be a problem!As many of the previous reviews say this place really deserves to be empty but with such a captive audience expect the experience to remain the same.

Sunday night of Mothers Day we were invited to my daughters and we ordered a take-away from here.The price was that bit lower at £5.90 per main course for most of the basic items. We accessed the menu on-line and made the order. It was ready for collection on time with no waiting.Quality was far better than normal. They advertise that the do NOT add MSG and the food is so much better for it.One thing that made serving so much easier is that all the containers had see through plastic lids, so simple.Plates were cleared and we were all very pleased and did not have a raging thirst afterwards.I look forward to visiting the restaurant soon.

We went to Thams last Friday with my bro in law and partner. My wife and I have been many times but it was their first. No disappointment with wonderful food and good service. Tham is a brilliant host, made us feel very welcome - good choices of drink from the bar and happy for us to have our table all night. This is definitely my favourite restaurant, and we will continue to go for hopefully, many years - well done Tham and Kim, and all the staff, from Robin & Christine Hawkes

We had a family meal here, hams provides traditional English pub atmosphere with a food Chinese restaurant. Went on a Saturday night, it was busy both with local drinkers and restaurant goers. I noticed that they were also doing a roaring trade in takeaways. The food is very good we had a nice mix of dishes, all very tasty. The waiting staff are polite and friendly. The decor needs an update and they probably get distracted with the numbers of takeaways the serve up,

We booked via email but no reply to confirm our booking so I telephoned to check our reservation. They had no record of our booking but could accommodate our party. The resturant was cold, service was really slow. On the plus side, the food was hot and tasty. I, like a lot of people used to go to Silk Road before that went down hill and out of business. It is really difficult to find a good Chinese/ Thai resturant in the Kings Lynn area. If you have a website and encourage people to email you, check and reply to them. More staff required to provide attentive service rather than ignoring them. Tam should read these comments and make changes, if so there would be a line out of the door.

We had a takeaway from here last night. The food was delicious but we had to wait 45 mins. We were told it would be 30 mins, but 45 is excessive when it didn't appear that they were too busy.I would use it again but suggest you call ahead when ordering take away.

Excellent eat in or take away food. Really good food and friendly service! One of Norfolk's little Gems!

Hadn't been in for a while, but starving on the way home from work I telephoned in and requested a takeaway for 25 minutes pick up.Food was really great, and the service was great. Had time for a quick half of bitter which was a nice bonus.Deserved 5 stars on this occasion.

Having heard good reviews about Thams we gave it a try and were not disappointed. The atmosphere is like a typical friendly country pub but incorporating a first class restaurant,The eating area is a little old fashioned and dim but this only adds to the experience.The food however is first class. We ordered the set meal for 4 people, It came out piping hot in 3 different courses and was one of the best Chinese meals I have ever eaten. Lots of it and all of it very tasty.If you like Chinese/Malaysian food then this is the place to try it, and the bonus is that it is also a pub serving great beer and other drinks!!!

An excellent menu, reasonably priced, and well cooked,with a great choice. It's well worth a visit, early evenings are better for a quiet relaxed atmosphere

When you picture a country pub, largely unaltered possibly since it was built in 1663, the local people drinking and amicable and chatting with the landlord and each other, you don't expect the pub to have a full Chines/Malay menu. Well it has and the food is well cooked, generous portions and the crispiest crispy beef I have had anywhere. Add the landlord and his wife, Mr. & Mrs. Tham who are from Thailand. You maybe wouldn't expect this combination to work. But it does brilliantly.My wife and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wishes a good hearty meal in very pleasant informal surroundings, with good service.Closed on Mondays and Tuesday Lunch, but a £10 special menu on Tuesday evenings. They even do Take Aways'
