So this place seems to have lost a step. It's still a gorgeous pub with excellent staff. But the food has gone downhill. We ordered a couple of specials and starters. The Korean ribs were shockingly bad, there were four ribs, and three of them were bare bone, the fourth was mostly fat. The Buttermilk chicken was dry, and the rest of the dishes were OK. Perhaps we were just unlucky, but... the third thing was that we found drinks on our bill that we hadn't ordered or drunk. I have a bad habit of just tapping and checking the bill later. l found an espresso and a Procceco on there that shouldn't have been. It's was only £10. But l recommend checking your bill before you pay. A good-looking pub with an open fire that is tucked away on a side street. Good selection of drinks with friendly staff. I haven't tried the food yet. (Edit) impressed with the food and wine. A gem of a place!

We are fairly frequent visitors to the Duke of Hamilton but this visit we were left highly disappointed. 1. The price has increased a lot while the quality of the food and portion sizes both have taken a huge turn for the worse. We were a big group so ordered pretty much most of the menu items. The corn and chilli dumplings were stodgy and lacked any depth of flavour. The bread came out cold. The chocolate ganache desert was a dry brownie cake with a small dollop of cream. The ones we make at home are so much nicer! The tomato and burrata salad was perhaps the only saving grace. 2. The service was appalling. We had to wait 30 mins for 2 scoops of ice cream for the kids and on asking about it the server kept assuring us it is just on its way out but clearly she hasn't bothered to even check. Throughout our seating we had to walk to the bar to ask to be served. No one came up to our table even once for the entire 2.5 hour period. 3. The table and benches themselves were rickety and felt they would give way any time. For the price we paid we felt hugely cheated. Really terrible value for money and service. Needless to say we won't be returning.

I like going here as they serve traditional homemade food and often have specials like pies and fish dishes on the board. The staff are friendly, welcoming and quick which is unusual in London from my experience to date. Downside for me is they allow dogs and I'm not keen on having dogs in an eating establishment watching me eat my dinner. I guess I'm in the minority in Hampstead, however.

Wonderful atmosphere, service, and food! We sat inside as the front patio and back yard were full. We ordered the carrot hummus, chicken pie (which was the daily special) and a side of chips to share. The food was amazing — one of the best meals we had while in London — and the portions were large enough to share. The beer selection is great as well. Will definitely be recommending to friends.

Yesterday I visited The Duke of Hamilton for a meal and entertainment, and I must say, the experience was delightful overall. The food, although well presented, fell a bit short in terms of seasoning. We tried the schnitzel and baked feta salad, both of which were just okay. However, the atmosphere of the place more than made up for it. The staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly, making us feel right at home. The cozy ambiance added to the charm of the evening. To top it off, I enjoyed a glass of natural Italian wine that was a true delight. The cherry on the cake was the live jazz gig, which provided the perfect soundtrack to our evening. Overall, I would rate my experience a solid 9 out of 10. While the food could use a bit more flavor, everything else about The Duke of Hamilton made it a memorable evening. Highly recommended for a relaxed night out with good music and great company.

Very nice pub - we felt very welcoming. The food is good but its on the pricey side. Mussel in cream sauce £18 - it is very good but it is sold out very quickly so get your hands on it if you are thinking about ordering it. The mussels are fat and the quantity is just about right. I'd add more salt but everything is perfect. They even give you lemon water to wash away the fishy smell on your fingers. Chicken schnitzel £24 - large portion with plenty of capers. Personally not a big fan of capers but I quite like it with the anchovies they put on top. Very warm inside of the restaurant even on a freezing day! We had a good time!

Quite disappointed today with this pub, such a great vibe & good service but roast beef too tough to eat, had to ask for a steak knife and still couldn’t eat half of it, dry Yorkshire pud, no cauli cheese & desserts were bland, apple crumble - really dry basic crumble & bread & butter pud had no flavour and could of been from a supermarket dessert shelf. Fish & chips were good, wine great too. Overpriced for a roast I couldn’t eat and even though it was politely mentioned to the waitress we were still charged full price.

Visited the Duke with friends we are all over 60, on December 2nd 2023 4pm, just wanted a beer, glass of wine, no food. No inside tables were vacant, the barmaid informed us, although there were only 7 people in the whole bar, empty tables everywhere, you can sit outside we were told, temperature outside was minus 2 at least, it was freezing. We don’t need to sit we explained we’re happy standing at the bar, not allowed we were told, so we left. If you’re planning a visit to the Duke just to drink , then don’t bother they are only interested in customers who want to eat. Stars out of 5 for the whole experience zero. Definitely will not be returning. 😡 PS. I had to tick one star otherwise my comment would not post.

Agree with the last review, a pub turned restaurant. We popped in on a Saturday early evening, sat down at one of the tables, and were told 5 minutes in that it was reserved, despite no reserve sign on our table, or 2 other of the free tables. Clearly a very pre-booked restaurant style of seating. It was a shame we weren't told prior to ordering a couple of pints.

I wandered into Hampstead after a walk round Highgate Cemetery and Hampstead Heath, so was thirsty. Arrived late afternoon and found the pub surprisingly quiet. Further into Hampstead afterwards, the pubs were rammed; so I recommend this one as a relaxing alternative to the nearby hive, This elegant pub has outdoor areas back and front. I sat out front, in the mellow sunlight. A raised seating platform looks down on a quiet, narrow street, opposite a beautiful row of tall terrace houses--some Victorian, some modern but matching. The outdoor decor of the pub was aesthetically pleasing, with slatted benches and tables, green chairs, some green tin tables, and a surround of green-&-white tiling topped by lime-green euphorbia or some such plant. Above is a pellucid awning of glass and hessian, dappling the sunlight. A couple of pints here. The perfect chilled interlude. Will definitely return--the Duke is only a few steps from busy Hampstead centre but feels like a world apart.

This is a lovely pub is in a quiet residential area, only 4 minutes from Hampstead Tube station as you head towards the heath. It's hidden away down a side street and is very pretty from the outside. Its known for jazz evenings and booking is advised when they are on - we went on a Thursday evening and luckily some front terrace seats were free as a jazz band was playing downstairs. The front terrace is delightful. Its covered but bright with plenty of plants. With the tree to the side it's very leafy. There are overhead heaters if you are feeling chilly. We originally met for drinks but as people around us started to eat we got hungry too. The food was very good - fish and chips is large and the buttermilk chicken starter is almost a main. We ended up having 3 rounds of drinks and food. The atmosphere is great and relaxing but best of all is the service - my European friend remarked that he had never seen such service in a UK pub! It's another location where we will be returning to. Excellent indeed.

Nice pub with lovely outdoor seating areas. Will first note that I have had good food here in the past; but the roast I had today (beef rump) was just OK - Yorkshire pudding was overdone/thin, gravy was 🤷🏻♀️, carrots didn’t receive much love, potatoes were neither v crispy nor v delicious. This pub is in a great location, away from the bustling high street, tucked away down a pretty street. There’s a lot of seating, outdoors covered out the front, inside (which has a lovely decor) and out the back in the garden. The garden, a personal favourite of mine has lovely fairy lights and benches, and is very atmospheric. I’ve visited here a few times, and the service is always exceptional, the staff are very attentive and are knowledgable of the menu. You feel like they genuinely care about your experience there. There’s a solid drinks menu, with lots of gin and wine. The food menu is small, but every time I’ve been the quality has been very good. This time unfortunately the food was mediocre to average. We ordered a selection of starters for a light dinner, including the whole artichoke , two of the scallops with salsa, buttered greens and chips. The buttered greens and chips were tasty, although lacked seasoning. The artichoke was bland, but had a very flavoursome Smokey dip that made up for it. My big issue was with the scallops. Never in my life have I been served scallops so small! For £11 you got 3, which were minute (see the photo). They were also rubbery, dry and gritty. Spending £22 on 6 scallops no bigger than a 10p coin is a joke. Aside from the below average food this time, the service was great as always, the person that greeted us accommodated our request to sit in the garden and our waiter was friendly, considerate and polite. My tip, don’t order the scallops, but head there for a cracking Sunday roast.

We've been here a few times now; this weekend we visited on Saturday and Sunday, and we had food and drinks on both days, sitting outside in the very Covid friendly front terrace. Sitting outside in the front is perfect, as they have the heaters. I don't particularly want to compare the pubs in Hampstead, as they're all unique with their own characteristics, but this pub cannot be faulted! The food has always been insanely delicious on all occasions; I'm not a vegetarian, but some of the vege options I've tried here would make me happily give up meat! Kudos to the chef and whoever creates the menu! Previously we had a delicious courgette starter, this weekend I had the sausages and mash special on Saturday (gravy was amazing), and today while my partner had the pork roast, I enjoyed a cauliflower main dish- again delicious! We've both had the padron pepper dish and returned for the Louisiana chicken wings a few times now too! Food aside, staff here are always so friendly and attentive, regardless of how busy they are, the service is never disrupted. Today (Sunday), the sun was out and they were incredibly busy, but still so attentive- so a huge thank you to you all. For those reading this and seeking a pub, do try this place, as it's easy to miss, since it's on the backstreets of Hampstead, but it's a real hidden gem- you won't regret it.

Make no mistake this is a gastro pub with gastro prices. A lovely old building set in one of Hampstead's pretty side streets it is undeniably attractive however it radiates a cold atmosphere inside like eating in a very posh/stiff restaurant. It’s all about the eating and little attention is offered to patrons who are seeking a cosy drink in a traditional pub. My husbands beer had to be sent back as it was warm and flat, our food was cold and nothing more than average and we found a couple of the staff to be rather bullying. You can find so many other nice pubs close by which offer a good friendly service at a reasonable price, the drinks here are extortionate. We certainly wouldn’t return here after the experience we were put through

The Duke is a GREAT place to spend the evening. Both for locals and visitors from overseas. They are accommodating for the size of the party and the menu is delicious. Thank you for an excellent evening If you like Jazz you have the Hampstead...

Beautiful considered food, amazing service. Since Vicky and Andrea have taken a lead has become even better! Chai latte still my favourite, the seasonal dishes just gorgeous had amazing small pasta and then today wild mushrooms and wild garlic. Lots of lovely little nooks and spaces to chat privately, relax, watch the world go by. As well great book and curiosity collection. So lucky to have on our doorstep!

After I ordered a cup of coffee and asked the staff for a cup of free water, they refused my request. I am sure that it is Starbucks policy to provide free water to customers after ordering. Really awful staff and service.

I visited a costa coffee store today with my dog just to get some food. As I walked in the "manager" was looking me up and down. I selected some food from their cabinet. I was then walking to pay. The manager says will you be eating here and stared at my dog. I asked why and she carried on looking at the dog. I put the items down and walked towards the door. She said it is our policy and it says so on the door. She then walked me to the door that only had the opening times with no policy. Oh we took it down when the window was cleaned today. I said how was I supposed to know. The way I was treated made me very upset. It is not my fault that there was no sign. Why should I be treated in such a way. Work men with dirty construction clothes can sit in but not me (suited and booted) with an exceptionally well behaved dog on a lead. Their loss and I will be sure that I let people know about how you get treated.

Healthy beautiful juices but at £8 ($16 AUD) each they're rather expensive! A good range of raw slices and healthy tidbits to take home too.
