Lovely vibe. Staff extremely friendly and food was excellent. I would highly recommend a visit here. One of the best restaurants in Derbyshire to visit.

1 ply toilet paper, Was there for 3½ hrs and only spent 20mins eating, even though we preordered the food half a week prior, Cake was wrapped in so many napkins to deceive us from the mouthful size it actually was

Our friend recommended the Dovecote Restaurant to us. Delicious food, friendly and professional staff, relaxed atmosphere and, the most important for me, not too loud. We are defninitely coming back. The only suggestion I have is regarding wine recommendations. When we asked for a suggestion to pair with our main course, we were advised to simply choose what we like. As we're not wine experts, it would have been helpful to receive a couple of specific recommendations that would complement the meal.

Surprisingly great and delicious dishes and deserves.

Pretentious food, very overrated and ridiculously expensive! £13 for a teeny weeny bit of pate!?? What’s THAT all about!? £6.50 for a quarter iceberg lettuce with probably a shop bought Caesar dressing. Had FAR better fillet steak for half the price at Miller & Carter

Wow wow wow, absolutely phenomenal!! Food was just the best ever, service was fab, drinks were great and constantly refilled and offered to us. Just amazing, 5 stars cannot recommend enough, go here whatever the occasion.

Afternoon tea left feeling very underwhelmed. Dovecote needs a new lease of life to make it more interesting. Standard fayre at premium prices. Average sandwich selection too heavy on cream desserts Cutlery didn't match clunky tea pots and cups yet china serving dish. Better places to spend your money. Service was good.

The dovecote restaurant has a beautiful setting , very nearby to the golf course & it's driving range , plus the open countryside of the Shipley park area , which gives the venue a relaxing & tranquil atmosphere . The dovecote is very tastefully decorated & furnished & has an upmarket feel & it has all the charm of a country house , that you may well see displayed in some county & country inspired magazine publications . The dovecote restaurant has many dinning options ranging from breakfast & dinner options , to afternoon teas & snacks , all with full waiter/ waitress service included in the cost . The staff upon our visit were most polite & helpful with the menu choices , as there is a good selection of dishes , & most of the produce has been locally & ethically sourced to support other local businesses , who really do bring their best to the table & I'm sure should you dine here you will appreciate the local fayre as it is quality fresh produce cooked & presented to a very high standard . The dovecote although quite an upmarket restaurant , is not overly expensive & considering it's beautiful location & the quality of food it is excellent value for money & it really is something special . The dovecote champagne breakfast is particularly good value & the champagne choice that accompanies the meal is of a very good style & should suit most palates , as it has a nice bead of bubbles & a rich cream finish , very nice ! . The dovecote has plenty of parking & special parking for those with mobility issues & are clearly marked nearer to the restaurant which makes things easier , especially for chair or scooter user's . So if you enjoy good food & service in pleasant surroundings then the dovecote restaurant could be your next place visit whilst here in the beautiful countryside of Derbyshire , highly recommended by locals & tourists alike .

A meal of balanced proportions. A poor start and an excellent finish. Upon arrival we were asked to be seated in the lounge area on some delightful 1970s conservatory furniture. A very polite young waitress took our order while seated in the lounge. Forgetting to take one member of our part of twos order. This was corrected and waiting staff were very apologetic. We were seated at a table for two in the corner with a white tablecloth decorated with a couple of lovely grease marks and a small hair across the napkin and the still water we ordered for the table was clearly a refilled bottle with a broken seal and a taste of seven Trent’s finest. Please contact me for pictures. We were presented with some bread and butter was available on the table, the butter was poorly tempered and rock solid and about as spreadable as a lump of granite. For starters I had the Dexter fillet of beef, a well presented starter however disappointing to say the least. I assumed that this would be served warm. The waitress had asked how I’d like my steak to be cooked and I replied medium. I was served a steak that had been lightly braised however was closer to tar tar. Chewy gristly and cold. For the main course I had the halibut and this was an excellent part of the meal. Delightful, well cooked and excellently presented fish with an onion and shrimp salad type garnish. Beautiful. Excellent and a real improvement after the starter. Overall I’d be tempted not to visit the dovecote again, however the main course may tempt me back.

Would recommend Dovecote, breakfast was lovely, service was fantastic from Michelle, my only constructive criticism would be my waffle was a little stodgy, and not because of the blueberries, it was nice but I think it can be improved, the porridge brulee was amazing! my husband really enjoyed all his food. We will be returning. Thank you

The only thing was that the restaurant needs some sort of air conditioning, it was very warm.

We had the Sunday lunch menu and everything thing was superb. Perfectly cooked and very flavoursome. The service was first class and attentive. We would highly recommend.

Superb on a Sunday! Great service!

Been for a 3 course Sunday Lunch and I have to say it was perfect, food and staff were excellent.

Lovely restaurant with superb value menu. Had a terrific lunch here and exceptional value for very high quality food. All courses were excellent and served with great care. If you have a guest who complains about portion sizes at fine dining establishments, bring them here - we were all stuffed! There is also a kids menu and staff seem flexible about mixing things up - one of our kids had a dessert from the main menu and this wasn't an issue. Would definitely come here again.

Surroundings / seated area's were very good. Well laid out tables. Food was excellent 👌 Bit more breakdown on what's in each dish. Some customers don't like lot's of onions Services was good. Just a bit more attention to empty glasses 🥂 and asking if we want a top up / more drinks.

Good, polite service and delicious food. Tablecloths on the tables were clean as was everything else. The salmon starter was quite a small portion, but the mains were big portions to balance it out. The veg that came with the Sunday lunches was all delicious. Would highly recommend the restaurant.

I would give them zero starts if I could, the staff are rude and unprofessional, and the food was terrible!! NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN!

Daughter arranged afternoon tea for a surprise, was a lovely experience with fresh tea on hand whenever wanted and the cakes and sandwiches were fresh and tasty. Service was great and the girls were lovely who served us, all round was enjoyable and recommended 😊

Superb Sunday Lunch for a birthday celebration. Excellent food, friendly service, lovely atmosphere, and good value for money. Nothing is too much trouble. Been going to the Dovecote Restaurant for many years and I would definitely recommend it to all.

I haven’t even had my dessert yet and this placed has blown my head off I’ve had to write this review. We booked this place by accident and what luck that was as it’s honestly the best meal I’ve ever eaten. Order the fillet to share and thank me personally later. I live 300miles away and I will be back Hats off the the chef.

Visited the Dovecote restaurant last night for first time. Will not be returning anytime soon staff we're great and the food was good unfortunately it was like eating in a sports bar a large golfing party. Started off ok then halfway through the evening seemed to have a Presentation playing there Owen Music Cheering and shouting. So Loud that my wife and I couldn't even talk we left with as quickly as we could without tea coffee or dessert. And to top in off my wife has been ill since the early hours .a real shame I definitely wouldn't recommend going.

Excellent food & service when visiting as a party of 7 for Sunday Lunch yesterday. No hesitation in strongly recommending this venue

Visited the Dovecote for the first time for afternoon tea. Absolutely lovely and the staff were so nice and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Food was lovely and my husband was delighted to have a second helping of sandwiches!!! We had a lovely relaxing time. The only slight criticism is that the tables are a bit close together and we felt a little bit uncomfortable with that, especially as the couple next to us were not friendly.

An amazing champagne breakfast experience at the Dovecote Restaurant and the service was fantastic. We decided to go for something different over a Full English and it did not disappoint. It was the best breakfast we've had for a long time. I did order a mackerel fishcake, with slow roasted tomatoes, but ended up with a fishcake with capers and a poached egg - still amazing. The only negative thing was that the coffee tasted awful and not drinkable, so we left without a hot drink, but with the great food and service, it didn't matter much. If you wanted a latte, cappuccino, etc. there was an extra charge, which I think is extreme given the price per person.

Best place for Sunday lunch , great staff and food

We visited the dovecote restaurant today to celebrate my aunties belated birthday 🎂 and was treated so well by Toyah and Michelle was so professional and caring, they couldn’t do enough to make our stay an outstanding visit.

The champagne breakfast was 10 out of 10. The food was superb, the staff friendly and attentive, without being intrusive. There was plenty to choose from on the menu, something for everyone, and if you had any dietary requirements, those were catered for too. The atmosphere of the Dovecote was relaxed and unrushed. Thank you for a lovely and enjoyable meal.

We had an afternoon tea for a friends retirement, there were 13 of us and Michelle & Lydia ensured we all enjoyed our experience. Service & food were excellent. Morley Hayes is our favourite place for afternoon tea and we'll be back. Thank you.

I just LOVE this restaurant. I’ve loved in Derby for around 12 years now and continue to visit, not once disappointed! I’m a fussy eater (or should I say particular) and I can honestly say staff go above and beyond to accommodate my request. Natalie, Simon and Elaine are delightful people. Their customer service skills are outstanding, and these are reflected in the staff that they oversee. The waiting staff are lovely. Very attentive and accommodating. Now, the best part of my review… NIGEL!! I had the pleasure of meeting the man that creates the food that I love… head chef Nigel!! 😁 that guy is so unassuming and modest. Very talented chef with a eye for detail and Willy Wonka’s pallet when it comes to chocolate puddings!! I’m begging you to bring back that Deconstructed Black Forrest Gateaux and Chocolate slice that had peanut butter or peanuts in with ice cream!!! They were so nice that I can still taste them when I think of them, despite it being at least 6 years ago when I last ate one!! If you don’t bring them back then please do a cooking session to that I can learn how to recreate those fabulous creations!! Thumbs up to other cheffing staff too!! For helping to bring Nigel’s creations to life 😁I smile every time I eat your food , whether it be lunch, afternoon tea, Champaign breakfast!! As long as standards remain I will always make Dovecote my go to place when I want a nice meal, and lovely ambiance, punctual service. My only objective criticism relates to waiting staff uniform. I feel the skirts that look like a resistance band/small belt worn by waitresses , should be replaced with something that is more sophisticated (knee length) and reflects the standard of MH/Dovecote.

We recently (Thursday 11th August) enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea at the Dovecote restaurant, enjoying our Christmas vouchers. We were looked after by Michelle who was lovely as was the food. The portions are plentiful and Michelle kindly arranged for us to take our left over goodies home :-) Thank you Michelle, we had a lovely afternoon Jo, Leanne and Jane x

Had a wonderful celebratory dinner here tonight. The restaurant is lovely and cosy inside, with tables well spread out. There are proper white table clothes which makes it feel just that little more special. There was a 3 course meal for £34 with about 5 choices for each course. The smoked salmon starter was delicious and I understand the cheese tart was also very tasty! We had the fish and beef mains and both were a good serving size and tasty. Dessert was also pleasant. We were given lovely little shortbread biscuits with our coffee which was a nice touch. I was given a beautiful birthday card by the restaurant which was a very nice gesture! The waitresses were all lovely and service was good. We hope to go back to try out their champagne breakfast sometime! Would recommend for a lovely, well priced meal in a pretty venue.

Went here for my first experience of an afternoon tea and what an experience it was. We went for the vegetarian option with tea expecting it to just be plain and boring but how wrong we were. The sandwiches were and I mean this - incredible Soft, tasty and moreish I couldn't resist accepting a the offer for more, yes they offer you more!! The tea selection was also incredible and described each tea in detail and again they offered refills! The cakes you guessed it were incredible, warm scones and fresh cream and jam, soft cupcakes and zesty lemon bites i was utterly blown away mentally and physically so when they asked us if we wanted more cakes as well I painfully had to decline! The setting was beautiful, warm and cozy Clean areas and very polite staff no matter your background. It truly transports you into a world you see on films and TV and makes you if only for an hour or two feel like true royalty It also has all the wheelchair access you need as well as clean toilets and fresh outdoor areas. Bog free car park aswell This is to date the best place I've eaten at and I cant stop recommending it. I hold everything in comparrison to here now and in a way its made me realise how much improvement can happen in other places. If I had to pick on one thing to improve and this isn't even that big of a deal it would be to have some coat racks/areas ( they may already have this option but I didnt ask) Will 100% be doing this again I can't stress how worth the money it is for the afternoon tea

Honestly the best afternoon tea I've ever eaten.

Great quality food. A few cost saving cut backs. Minor things no olives on arrival and no chocolate with the bill but other than that great meal, fab service and lovey setting.

Had a lovely champagne breakfast this morning with 3 friends. I recently found out I'm gluten and dairy intolerant and going out for meals hasn't been a great experience! Today was fantastic and I even had my own 'gluten and dairy free' menu to choose from. The food was gorgeous and I didn't feel like I was missing out or making do one bit! Highly recommended for a lovely treat!

We always have such a wonderful time here. Atmosphere and surroundings are relaxing & the staff are so very welcoming, friendly and helpful upon arrival. Table service is impeccable too. Menus are well thought out & full of good choices. The food is 2nd to none, always beautifully presented & the finest quality of ingredients are used alongside fine local produce. I can honestly say it's always a pleasure to dine at the Dovecote & I look forward every time to the our next visit. The worst afternoon tea I have ever had. Very few sandwiches had to ask for some more. I have paid less at other places and they have included a glass of prosecco . Their was a choice of tea and my friend and I chose Assam but was served dish water. Instead of individual dainty scones we were expected to share a large scone.

Excellent food, atmosphere and staff. We weren't hurried at all. Would definitely recommend.

Ate here last Saturday night. Staff delightful and super attentive but food unfortunately very dissapointing. The nearly £9 beetroot starter comprised of only half a beetroot and was more of a taster than a starter. The steak was very nice but not served with any veg, just a handful of chips and peas were an extra £2.50. The maincourse just looked lost on the plate and whilst it was nicely presented there was just not a lot of it. Fortunately we managed to avoid the strawberries & cream dessert after spotting them being served to a nearby table which comprised of only 2 strawberries on what looked like a biscuit for a whopping £7.50. The cheescake was nice but the mango topping took some finding. It looked like the spoon had been dipped in a pot & dragged accross the plate leaving a faint trail. What we had was nice but after 3 courses we left still hungry and could not honestly say that the food was value for money. The service on the other hand was top notch but ultimately it is the food you come for and you dont want to pay nearly £200 for a meal and then find yourself thinking about nipping in the chippy on the way home.

Good selection of food and staff are polite and friendly. Plenty of outdoor seating if the weather's fine, indoors can fill up fast. Be prepared to wait at least 40 minutes for food, after ordering, after 5pm on a weekend.

It was my wife's, birthday lunch and I have to say that we found the staff, service and food delightful. If I had to be critical of anything was that my wife's sparkling wine was not cold enough. I would not let this detract from a superb experience. Would I return. Yes without question.

Champagne breakfast was very good

We were staying over at the hotel for our wedding anniversary, and decided to make a reservation for a meal whilst there. Wow, the service was incredible and all down to the fine detail. The food was amazing, and the flavours just superb. For my wife and I the icing on the cake was the beautiful music by the pianist. Even taking requests of songs he didn't know (including our wedding song), and working his magic and making our night special

We had the champagne breakfast and everything was amazing

This was our first visit to the Dovecot restaurant at Morley Hayes and wont be our last. We have visited Roosters for a meal on many occasions and always enjoyed good food. We booked a champagne breakfast for 2 after receiving a birthday gift of a gift voucher for this. When we arrived there was no one there to greet us and we had a little wait to be acknowledged and shown to our table (hence the 4 star rating). Our table was situated next to a small window with a lovely view. The service we received was excellent, friendly, helpful and professional. Our food was excellent too. We had croissants and toast to start with butter and a choice of jams along with champagne and a glass of fresh orange juice. Then Greek yoghurt with rhubarb compote and granola for my husband with smoked salmon topped with scrambled egg on a muffin for myself. Next I had smoked haddock,poached egg on crushed potatoes with mustard sauce whilst hubby had full English breakfast both were delicious. All this was finished off with coffee and a choice of loose leafed teas I had ginger citrus. Most enjoyable and highly recommended. Cant wait to go again.

Used the rooster restaurant brilliant sunday lunch best £10 I've spent in years.

The atmosphere was lovely and the ladies serving us were very polite and attentive. But the steak we ordered we couldn't eat as it was tough and very chewy. Our friends had the fish and said it was lovely. Apart from the steak it was a lovely evening.
