Service was slow and when i questioned why we had been waiting 20 mins for someone to at least take a drinks order the Iranian lady managing the restaurant was quite rude and said they were busy and being made to wait for a long period it is my punishment for being a few mins late for our table booking. the grills are good but i would say the meze dish isn't worth the cost for items you could buy from your local ethnic shop for a fraction of the price. its a shame really as the venue is nice and the serving staff are sweet.

I'm a local resident and have walked past this restaurant many, many times - without thinking of going in. So, last Friday my partner and I went for it. And I'm wondering why we hadn't been before. Kicked off with a fig flavoured vodka - which I liked so much I had to have seconds! And then a very nice starter followed by a lamb and pomegranate main, which went down very well. Paklava for after and some really good wine. Service was efficient and no attitude. I'd happily return. A marked contrast to certain over-hyped restaurant very close by!

This is a very local restaurant to us, but we have never been, because my husband always says he "doesn't fancy it." Well I dragged him there last night, and he is a complete convert. We started with the mixed meze - the aubergine and yogurt was amazing, as were the stuffed vine leaves and grilled lamb. And the olives in pomegranate molasses. Loved the bread too. My daughter has calamari, which were perfectly cooked. I had the stew with green almonds for my main course, my husband had lamb fillet and my daughter had the chicken. All delicious and perfectly cooked. We washed it down with an excellent bottle of Italian white (Pecorino). Service was friendly, helpful and attentive, explaining the different dishes, so that we could make an informed decision. We finished with baklava and Persian ice cream, and Persian tea. A fabulous meal and my only regret is that we didn't discover it sooner.

Har du prøvet persisk mad? Restauranten ligger i et område hvor der ikke kommer så mange turister - dejligt. Her får du mulighed for at prøve nye smagsoplevelser.

This is a rather small restaurant with an unprepossessing front on a busy street. That said, it has been the best meal we've had in London so far! Our group ordered lamb and calamari. Both our favorites, and both are notoriously hard to cook correctly. Both dishes were perfect, the seasonings were perfect and they were both perfectly salted. I think sometimes restaurants over salt to correct poor quality inn food… The quality here is high from the central meat dishes down to the radicchio in the salads. We were too full for dessert but we're planning to go back to try!

So this lunchtime my buddy and I were thwarted in our attempts to eat at either of Kennington's two curry houses and chose Doost, a Persian restaurant right on Kennington cross. I have been once before, a good few years ago and in the evening, so a lunch there was a first for me.It was empty when we arrived and often that can mean a frosty reception from the waiting staff who are hoping for a blank shift. Not so at Doost: the waiter was friendly, helpful and attentive, particularly as he surmised correctly that we didn't know a great deal about the cuisine Doost offers. We shared the Gilan Trio to start: pickled Persian olives with pomegranate seeds; a yoghurty dip; and a tomato and garlic sauce; served with some gorgeous flatbread slices. To follow I had the lamb stew, which was an absolute treat on a cold day. Great big chunks of tender and lean lamb, plenty of herbs, and kidney beans. A portion of rice on the side, and a salad garnish, and I was barely able to finish. My buddy had the confit duck leg in pomegranate and walnut sauce. I cadged a bit and it too was delicious - quite sweet and sour, unlike a French confit duck. He had a side order of Taftoon bread for dipping but couldn't finish it.We had a chat with the proprietor towards the end and he knocked 10% off the bill for it being lunchtime. Really the staff couldn't have done more for us, which always leaves a nice fuzzy feeling. My buddy took care of the bill so I can't say precisely how much the total was but I'd say less than fifty quid, which included a glass of rose and a mineral water. The couple next to us had the specific lunchtime menu, which seemed to be based around fresh meat wraps that looked very good indeed; so it is entirely possible to dine there for much less than we paid.I'd recommend it unreservedly, either for lunch or dinner and it's one of those places where there are at least half a dozen things you could quite happily pick for starters and mains.

I live nearby and have been back so often to try different things on the menu, or have my favourite (duck in walnut sauce). The staff are always super friendly and i love seeing other locals who've lived in the area chatting away with them. I had never focussed on the vodka before but my friend says they've got an excellent range and serve it perfectly. It's an intimately decorated space ideal for dates and taking a friend. They couldn't accommodate a group of us once but i don't blame them - it was a busy Saturday and we hadn't booked! It is small but lovely and warm in winter (extra warm if you get a chilli dish!). A negative: the kitchen vents onto the street so it is torture for me when i need to walk that way to the gym. The smell is so damn good!! 😛

A friendly waitress escorted us to the bar said she would arrange the table for us.We then attempted to order only to be told there was no chicken and later, no diet coke. The sabsi starter was small plate of limp herbs. The small amount of bread we were offered was more akin to an Indian chapatti than an Iranian naan. We tried to order more but the waiter was simply disinterested. I ordered the Fessanjan. The key feature of this slow cooked dish is the pomegranate and walnut sauce. The sauce itself was delicious however I had about one tablespoon of the sauce spread over what seems to be an overlooked pan fried duck breast. We eventually managed to prise the waiter away from the girls he was chatting to at the bar to ask for some basic accompaniments. Some arrived, some didn't.We left feeling that the evening had been a waste of money, time and calories.

What a lovely little restaurant. The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful and the chef is passionate about his native food and even offered to cook us something "off menu" next time we came.We dined on a Thursday evening and had prime position by the window. Very prompt and attentive service with all our questions answered. We decided to have the sharing platter as a starter as neither of us had had Persian food before - it was delicious - a real taste bud awakener.I opted for the Doost chicken which had been recommended by a fellow Tripadvisor contributor. It was very nice but "nothing to write home about".My husband opted for a Persian stew (lamb and aubergine) and that was absolutely fantastic.Have got to say that the rice was probably the best I have ever had.All in all, a wonderful experience and we will definitely visit again next time we are in that part of London.Thank you Doost (and hope you get your OO's fixed!).

Both myself and my partner experienced a lovely ambient evening at Doost Persian Grill. The waitress was welcoming even after being slightly behind with my pre booked time. The venue is classy, the furnishing is well put together ,comfortable and clean. The menu is pleasing and can accommodate all palates. The meal chosen, as this was our 1st time there, was the waitresses recommendations and that was definitely no let down. It was beautiful, flavour some and well cooked. You could tell this food was cooked with love and passion. We even had the honour of seeing the chef who came out to greet us. What a humble man, did not get his name but thank you ever so much for a wonderful meal. I strongly recommend everyone try this restaurant, you would not be disappointed at all. I will definitely come back again and real soon, excellent !

This is the second time we've been here and I'm sure we'll be back. The food is excellent, we had mixed mezze and then lamb kebab and salmon/prawn/tamarind stew. The staff are great too, they genuinely want you to have a great time, and are happy to talk through the menu (including the vodka menu!) with you. Would recommend the 'healthy' vodka and pomegranate cocktail.

This place is ridiculous good!! I've had Persian food many times in my life, but this place is better than all of them hands down! I couldn't be more happy with my visit.. The food came out in a timely matter and the service was above par.I highly, highly recommend the warm vegetable salad for all you vegetarians! For you meat lovers, definitely go with the owners favorite: minced lamb skewer! And if you're with at least one more person: you must order the MIXED MEZE!!You're welcome! ;)

This is a local restaurant and I was extremely excited about tasting the delicious food described in the reviews below. So I made a reservation of 20 people to visit for my birthday celebration on Saturday. The manager called me back on Monday and asked for my email address so that he could send the set menu. I did not receive anything. I then made numerous calls, in which they said the manager was not in so they could not send it. On another occasion I was told that I had already received the menu. The last straw was when I asked the lady to send the menu to me whilst I waited on the phone. She literally just left the phone off the hook. It looks like I'll be visiting the Kennington Tandoori!

I took my girlfriend to Doost on Valentines day. I booked via open table and when I got there they advised that they had no record of this booking. I have heard this happen before looking at reviews so could be down to open tables booking system.Despite them having no record of the reservation they promptly seated us with no fuss. The food really blew my socks off. I suppose when you think of fine cuisine Persian food doesn;t automatically spring to mind. It was so delicious and the meat so tender, the portion size was also generous and staff were brilliant (more on the staff coming up). The menu is varied but not too busy and the wine was great aswell, I would suggest listening to the staff's reccomendations is the way to go.So after we finished our meal we noticed that Doost is also a vodka bar (but not in a cheap bar like way they just hve an extensive range of Vodka). Now personally I don't like Vodka or at least I thought I didn't but these are really really top quality and tasted amazing, the young gentleman even sat down with us and took us through the various vodka and we even had some samples which made the occasion extra special.Thank so much for an amazing meal and experieince I will definately be coming back.

Not located in an area you would usually pass by if not on purpose, this place is a real discovery. Friendly staff, amazing food, balanced and delicate yet unusual and truly original. You go once, you'll come back for sure.

Visited Doost as I love Middle-Eastern food and this place is just around the corner from my boyfriend's house. It was AMAZING. My boyfriend chose a fantastic lamb dish (I can't remember which one, but there is a lot of lamb to choose from). I had the chicken with pomegranate which was great but very rich and a bit too much for me. The portions are huge, I had to go home and put on my (wildly attractive, ultra romantic) elasticated waistband trousers. :|

We enjoyed an early lunch at a shady pavement table at this small cafe in Little Portugal. Service was prompt and very friendly. The menu seemed comprehensive and authentic, so we chose espada - a Medeiran specialty of black scabbard fish with banana and maize. It was delicious and very good value. Nice choice of beers too. Recommended!

Really friendly and helpful staff, great atmosphere and outstanding food. We had brunch for a friends’ special birthday and the staff went out of their way to accommodate us, and made us feel super special with a free cocktail each. The food really was delicious, as was their coffee, and their range of cocktails!

Heard they don’t pay their workers fairly. Witnessed their (very young looking) waiters running about like ants trying to run the restaurant. Food etc was nice, but this just didn’t sit right with me 🙃

We arrived around lunch time, and quickly we got a warm reception from the waiter in charge, The place was had a really nice feel to it, great background music, we order some starters which were great, our mains were quite frankly amazing, very happy with the overall experience, will definitely recommend, and I will return asap. Would like to thank for the carpark at the back of the restaurant. From Gabriel and Cristina.
