Doner Summer in Leeds

Really loved this place when we first moved to Leeds about a year ago but it’s been going downhill ever since and I really couldn’t recommend it now. Food is expensive (£15-ish for a meal not including drinks) which was just about ok when it was great quality but now feels like a massive rip-off, the portions are huge but I’d rather have a normal amount of food for a more reasonable price to be honest. Service is always super slow even when very quiet and the atmosphere is pretty awkward in there, the last two times we’ve been food has arrived cold and not properly cooked through, my partner said his fried chicken was like raw dough. The seasoning overall on the chicken and even the chips was very lacking and when they charge £1.50 extra for sauce you would expect it to taste of something, the pickle and Korean mayo’s both might as well have been plain mayonnaise with food colouring in - the only thing I would say has stayed great are the drinks, their craft sodas and mocktails are still lovely but that’s all I could recommend. After the most recent visit my partner became quite unwell too so really not a good experience. Shame as it used to be great but really wouldn’t recommend it now to anyone.

Had previously gone to the York branch but it closed down along with others so glad we eventually made the trip to Leeds. Food was just as good as we remember. The southern fried chick’n was lovely and crispy, the dips were flavourful. The burgers were crispy and juicy and delicious. Dog friendly which was great. Staff were very friendly too. We took lots of food home to continue our Doner summer experience all over the weekend!

Every time I visit Leeds I have to go to Döner Summer AT LEAST once. With how many vegan restaurants have closed down in Leeds, Döner Summer is my vegan safe haven. I have loved to see them grow and take a new direction creatively and every new menu item I have tried has been spectacular. Not to mention they have the best cocktails! I take all of my friends here any chance I get. The service is always fantastic, the food always on point, and the music and ambiance as well. Such a nice spot.

Popped into Leeds on Friday 11th April for a late lunch - it’s been a while since we visited. I had the combo with hunny butter. The shreds on the chicken are amazing. I think it’s probably the best vegan chicken I’ve ever had. I wish I’d asked for the butter as a dip rather than on the chicken because I couldn’t really taste it. The pickle mayo that came with the dish was a welcome addition and had a lovely tang. Also loved the creamy slaw and skin on fries. My husband had his favourite bad girl doner which he loved. The only downside was that it was on flatbread and not pide but he was told beforehand so not an issue. Everything was fresh and piping hot. We opted for sodas (raspberry & nettle and strawberry & kiwi) which were really refreshing on such a warm day. The service was great and we really enjoyed our visit. We’re long time fans so we’ll be back. Keep up the great work guys x

We came on Saturday night for the first time in a little while! We had the honey butter chicken and shared some loaded fries with dips on the side - the blue cheese one is my ultimate fave but the chilli garlic surprised me - sooooo good. We had a couple of spritz too. As always, the food was lovely and the staff were fab - thank you! 💖

I have been DS lots of times and have never had a bad meal. I love the food and the cocktails and always leave counting the days till I can come back. Love this vegan small business. Yum!!!!

Sat in an awful draft from the door being propped open, smell of cigarettes fill the restaurant because of people right outside. Smashed burger patties fell apart more than McDonald’s burger. We’ve been coming for three years and I’m well and truly heartbroken. This place is clearly struggling. Logo printed grease proof paper replaced with green and white chequered. Entirety of presentation gone down hill massively. Everything soaked in grease, barely edible. Literally pooling in the bottom of the bowls. No wonder the other restaurants have closed down.

Great service given by Saul and tasty food to boot! After having a burger and sharing a few side dishes we all left feeling stuffed.

The Korean Kebab is the best thing I’ve ever had in my mouth. REALLY good food, can’t recommend enough.

Go here regularly with a vegan friend ( I am not) always enjoy the food very much. My fave is the Korean BBQ . The staff are so lovely.

Just drove an hour n half to you for you to be closed! Website says your open and the door says as well! You should update the website if your not going to be bloody open!!!

Always amazing!!! We have been enjoying Doner Summer in restaurant and as a takeaway for years now (6/7 years!!?). We never get a bad meal from them. Really like the new changes in the menu. I lived in the US for a while and the buffalo ch*cken is better than anything I had out there. I have got meat eaters to try their kebabs and they have always really enjoyed them. Huge thanks to all the staff there for keeping the best vegan place in town so very consistently brilliant.

Sooooo nice, the seitan chicken was the best I've ever tried. The kebab portion was extremely fair, I couldn't finish it and had to share (however the burger was a little bit of a small portion). The cocktails were extremely refreshing and the service was warm. Such a nice place.

My partner and I were really looking forward to eating here. Unfortunately, the food fell far below expectations. The kebab plates consisted of cold seitan and overly salted sauce of a very strange colour. The best part was the salad. The Chick'n burger was warm at least but the seitan was so chewy that it was quite unpleasant to eat - basically just a flour sandwich as the seitan had no taste of its own. The coating was the best part and the salad was also useful as it would have been impossible to swallow otherwise. I finished it because I was hungry and didn't want to waste £11. Also the basic things such as ketchup and salt were absent from the table, although the chips are served without salt. The food took a very long time to arrive although the restaurant was not busy. The waitress was very friendly and attentive, which made it pleasant to some extent but I certainly wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and I have to say it makes me glad I'm not actually vegan.

Always get this store currently isn't accepting orders on the app.. so I will start to eat elsewhere going by some more reviews this is an occurring issue where it seems the staff can't be bothered accepting takeouts

Great music!! Waited 50 minutes for food which when it arrived was very underwhelming and made us feel super sick. Even the chips were cold!

This place has been on my Dishlist for aaaaages! And finally got to go a little while back thanks to my friends, who have been teasing me and banging on about how good this place is! And yes! It’s so good. Great selection, but sticking with the namesake, I went with the Garlic Chilli Chick’n’Kebab which consisted leaves, peppers, pink cabbage, spring onion, Turkish pepper, garlic chilli sauce, smoked aioli and sesame (I held back on the cucumber) added some scotch bonnet and hunny mustard sauce with a side of Garlic Fries (love me a load of garlic!). Had a bonus of trying their Buttermylk Fried Chicken which was amazing! And you have to ask about the Animal Fríes which was gooey goodness! Awesome cozy vegan eatery in Leeds that’s well worth the visit even for vegan curious carnivores.

Pretty good on the whole. I'm not vegan myself but the food was tasty and I enjoyed it. No issues accommodating a sleeping baby in a pram. Atmosphere was a little sterile, but we ate early so probably why. Service was good. I'd return.

Eating there is better than delivery, food taste amazing !! But hardly ever I got my order right if I order take away…. In less than a year I got it wrong 90% of the times, there is something missing, if it’s not chips is sauce if not is wrong coating, I called different times… nothing they can do just deal with Uber … so sadly decided to look for alternatives ! I work nights so sometimes once a week while I’m on nights I like to order from them but since it’s been so terrible and also portions little by little smaller and always something wrong with the order I decided to stop using them.

Food was alright, quite greasy the seitan chicken tasted pretty good but overall nothing that blew my mind :(

Oh my god, just had the best date night ever! Our server, MEG, was absolutely incredible and the best server I’ve ever had. So accommodating to us and got us everything we needed. Will definitely come again. Such yummy food!

Fun eatery with generous portions of delicious vegan food.

Ordered the dish “Bad girl”, maybe should change the name to Bad FOOD. The problem is they took so long to “cook” (make? ) a COLD sandwich and the “chicken” was way too salty in a such weird pink colour (what’s wrong with the original look?) and very very small amount of salad covered in odd sauce and the biggest problem for me is it’s not even real Turkish pide bread even though you wrote so on the menu, the bread tastes so not fresh and cheap omg just so much to say but whatever definitely won’t go to there again..The only good part last night was kind friendly staff, thanks for that❤️

I have eaten here numerous times now including having a birthday party here, every time the food and service has been excellent. I highly recommend the ‘Whats garlic in french burger’, the fried chicken (minus the Korean BBQ sauce, It’s so salty!) and their cherry soda. Their garlic parmesan fries are also great. It’s a good job I don’t live in Leeds or I would be in here every week stuffing my face on a regular basis.

As vegetarians, we were seeking a suitable dining establishment for our final day in Leeds. While many restaurants offer a few vegan or vegetarian options, it is always a pleasure to dine at a vegan-exclusive establishment, where one can dine without concerns about the contents of their meal. The culinary offerings were exceptionally delectable, and the portion sizes were appropriate. The cocktails were also crafted to perfection. In addition, the server provided exemplary service and demonstrated a friendly demeanor.

I ordered a "Bad Girl" and Tots as a side, the side was huge, I couldn't finish it all, but very tasty and all vegan whoop whoop

Pollo falso virtualmente indistinguible de lo real con increíbles dips y laterales, además de un gran ambiente y un personal encantador. A un precio muy razonable también, desearía que también se abran en Liverpool!

Fried Chicken and Chicken kebaba was like eating rubber , no taste, Over cooked.

Will never be able to STOP thinking about this food!! I ordered the Korean loaded fries and, as a vegan junk food lover, it hit the spot and will be a meal to remember. My meat-eating friend absolutely loved it as well. Highly recommend!!

Great little place, part of a modest chain, doing exclusively vegan food. Don't expect wholefood though, this is a bit naughty, but it scratches that kebab itch. They serve a range of kebabs, burgers and vegan fried chicken with some excellent sauce choices. Friendly service, the price is reasonable and there's a range of options for smaller or larger meals. Highly recommended if you're vegetarian or vegan.

Small portions and their hygiene is a measly 3!! Shocking.

Pedí una comida para llevar esta semana y normalmente pido una porción de pollo amigo, y luego una porción de papas fritas para compartir. Hago esto en lugar de pedir un combo, ya que generalmente los tamaños de las porciones son más grandes y el pollo me durará uno o dos días. Esta vez, la porción de pollo era mucho más pequeña, lo que se siente descarado cuando cobran más de £ 15 por una caja. Probablemente no vuelva a pedir, ya que es demasiado caro.

If I could I would move back to the UK just so I could have a meal here everyday. I honestly had to keep checking everything was vegan it was super tasty. Staff are wondeful and welcoming. Please consider branching out in to New Zealand!

Try hard hipster atmosphere. One of the staff member was lovely, the others were not The food was okay but a bit plasticky tasting. Also put a 10% tip on the bill for themselves without asking me. Just pretty meh all round really, two meals a beer and a cocktail was £50

Vegan chicken made out of whipped flour batter then fried. Need more substance. It felt like eating paste. The person serving was a good and polite. But think the food needs to be better for vegans and vegetarian.

Regularly order online from here but visited the other week for the first time, me and a group of friends got the Sunday roast and it was beautiful! Also was given free cauliflower cheese too 😍

Used to order from here all the time. Ordered last week and spent £60 on four portions of "chi*ken" and chips and got one portion split across four boxes. Called them to explain and was promised a refund, was told there were new chefs in and portions were been checked but must have missed this one. Called back two days later to chase was promised it would be sorted. Messaged on Facebook, no reply. Called again today and was told a manager had emailed me, four hours on, still no emailed and £60 out of pocket. I can't believe how poor the service has been.

The service was absolutely great really lovely staff and the FOOD OMG! Tastes even better than it looks I was blown away. Took my meat eater sister and she said it was the best kebab she ever had and didn’t know it was vegan! I will definitely go here everytime I visit Leeds.

I've been to Döner Summer several times and hope to go many more. One of my favourite vegan junk food places. There isn't a bad dish on the menu and I always have trouble choosing. Lovely staff too.

Always a joy to visit. Small but really nicely decorated and super friendly and helpful staff. Food and drink selection are both awesome. Highly recommended for vegans as well as anyone who just enjoys good dirty food!

As others have said the food is delicious, however the service is agonisingly slow so don't go if you are very hungry. Its a real shame as there's not many places like this in leeds, however the service seriously let's it down. Ordered a meal to collect an hour and a half in advance tonight as we knew it would take ages and an hour later they cancel the order. Seems 2 hours before closing still isn't enough time.

I think Doner Summer is one of the best vegan spots in Leeds. It may look pricey but you get so much food which makes up for it. Both the vegan chicken and vegan doner taste soo good! And I’m obsessed with the tots, they have such the perfect amount of crunch to them.

The staff were lovely which is why we've given 2 stars. Aside from that though, we booked a week in advance and travelled 45 mins to Leeds to eat here - however, after we were seated we were informed that we could only order a Sunday roast. There is no mention of Sunday roast on their website (the menu page only brings up the kebab menu) - and we weren't prompted that their menu wasn't being served on Sundays when we booked. The Sunday roast sounded ok, but we didn't book a kebab place (remember that Doner is in their name) in the hopes of eating a Sunday roast. Vegan kebabs are very few and far between, so we were very disappointed and unfortunately left to eat somewhere else.

The food was amazing, drinks were really nice, and the service was great. Definitely worth visiting. Would come back to Leeds just to go back haha. :)

Fantastic food, attentive staff and chilled vibes. regularly drive from Sheffield to Leeds especially for a Korean BBQ combo 😋 and a sour cocktail 🍸 Well worth it.

Very tasty food. A 100% prefer the doner "meat" served here over real meat doner meat. Would love to see some slightly smaller, slightly cheaper options.

Sensational vegan food! We came for lunch for the second time today, and I had the chicken gyros which was incredible. As always, the portion sizes were massive. I love that the team make their own sodas - such a nice touch and adds a bit of variety compared to other places around. Fast and friendly service, and such a good range of food - not just fried chicken. Will come back time and time again ❤️

Used to come here all the time, lovely wings and tots usually. I’ve noticed in the last few months that the quality and flavour of the food has gone down considerably both in-person and for takeaway and I’m not sure why - the service too is very consistently minimal, the server was watching videos on his phone last time and didn’t check in during the meal, had to go to the counter to get the bill :p

This is our major vegan favourite. The food is just to die for. Its a good job we don't have a local branch anymore really, as we would be in every day! The staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is chilled. Can't wait to visit again soon!

Eating in store this place is sensational. The takeaway/delivery option on the other hands is so poor, it’s like they give you the leftovers or anything that they have burnt and cannot serve in store. So, go in and eat, do not order!

Days later I'm still thinking about ChicknParm flatbread, it was so good I wanted to eat it again straight after I finished. Nice layout means you don't feel on top of other customers, lovely staff and also attracts lovely customers!

Hadn't had Doner Summer for a while so thought I'd order the other day when my friend was visiting. Added everything to the order on deliveroo (2x combo meals, 1x just chicken and 2x dips) and it came to £56!! I understand the price of everything has gone up and smaller businesses can't always absorb the costs, but this is just ridiculous! I'm gutted because I absolutely love the food there but just can't justify spending the money unfortunately.

Used to be 5 star cafe/restaurant a couple of years ago. Food is definitely on the decline, it's vastly overpriced now, and they sneak a service charge on you without telling you which i thought was very cheeky considering its not a posh place. I told them to take it straight off. Can't recommend the place now unfortunately!

I have wanted to come to Doner Summer for so long. It was worth the wait. From the moment we go into the restaurant, the staff were super friendly! We didn't have a booking as I was not aware we had to book but staff found us a table without making it a huge issue. We quickly got our drinks which were so nice and then shortly after our food arrived. It was hot and so tasty! The portion sizes are huge! We had to get a take away box because we couldn't eat it all. Definitely worththe travel.

Great vegan food! Would definitely recommend the burgers and gyros. Service was ok, was good at seating us and placing order but then felt ignored if we wanted anything else. It was quite cold as well - keep your coat on or take a blanket! Hoping the next time we come there's more choice on sides.
