Just had our annual Xmas family dinner at The Dog & Duck and it was fantastic! Food was delicious especially the festive cheesecake! Staff were very helpful, friendly and hard working. Would definitely recommend this place but remember to book a table as it does get busy.

Called in about 5pm on a Friday afternoon in early November in an attempt to book a table for 4 people in the almost ( just 3 or 4 people drinking at one table) empty bar. A woman was talking on the telephone behind the bar. She paused and yelled at me for picking up a Christmas leaflet to read off one of the several empty tables. A pleasant young waitress appeared & tried to assist but had to consult the woman & kitchen staff before our custom was declined. They were too busy later on & obviously could not cope with earlier customers which was understandable if they had staff shortages or other issues ( if that was the case). However, there is no excuse for rudeness- the woman was openly agitated, inhospitable & made no attempt to hide this so we ventured to a nearby welcoming establishment! We drove past a couple of hours later & could not see anyone in the bar.

The Dog & Duck is a spacious pub with a vibrant atmosphere, though it can be on the expensive side. Despite the higher prices, it’s still a great spot, especially if you’re looking for a hearty meal as they serve food that’s filling. The large space makes it ideal for gatherings, and the staff are generally attentive, ensuring you have a good experience. Whether you’re there for a meal or just a drink, the Dog & Duck offers a solid pub experience.

This is the second visit to this pub. The first visit was faultless. Unfortunately this visit was the worst meal I've had in a long time. I ordered the fish and chips.my wife had liver and sausage casserole her meal was very good. But mine was terrible. The fish was really small and what there was of it , was wasn't very good . hardly any fish. There was plenty of chips, but did taste of well used oil. Needs to change the oil. I won't be coming back in a hurry!! Maybe it's a one off!!

Absolutely recommend!!! Hope to return some day. First class! Oh and the gravy….. yum!!

I don't often leave reviews but on this occasion I feel that I must take the time to do so. My Mother and Father in law who are both in their 80's go for Sunday lunch at the Dog & Duck every Sunday as the food is very good and they are looked after extremely well by the staff. When myself and my husband visit from Essex they always like to take us there. We have been going for several years now, and the staff are always pleased to see us and are extremely welcoming, and the food is always good and generous portions (In fact I can never eat it all) We all went for lunch on Sunday 13th October, and the food and staff were exceptional as always, But our meal was ruined by the rude obnoxious people on the table behind us !! We over heard a gentleman complaining to one of the lovely young waitresses saying he wanted more meat on his plate.. but his attitude and tone of voice was to say the least somewhat unpleasant. The waitress was very professional and took his plate back to the kitchen and got the chef to put more meat on his plate. When she returned he still wasn't happy and became aggressive towards her, to which she explained that she would get the manager. The young waitress became very upset, but she maintained her professionalism and dignity, but when away from the customers she broke down in tears. The Manager/ Landlady came to their table and confronted him about his behaviour and that he had made the waitress cry and too rightly so, but the gentleman just laughed. All the people on that table were Just rude and vile and had faces like smacked AR$3$!! If I wasn't with my Mother and Father in law I would have said something myself but I didn't want to ruin our lunch. So please don't take any notice of the 2 reviews on here from Nicholas and Chis B, they where just vile!!! https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g1076957-d2654729-r974058198-Dog_Duck_Inn-Walkington_Beverley_East_Riding_of_Yorkshire_England.html#

We complained about a meal to a waitress, not particularly rudely, but the waitress was upset. The landlady came to the table and loudly told us off in front of a full restaurant banging on the table as she left. We apologised to the waitress who graciously accepted our apology. We parted on good terms Any approach to the landlady was met with unbelievable rudeness. She could learn a lot from her young waitress. The website promises memorable moments. You can say that again. What has happened to this pub? It used to be a brilliant, traditional village pub that served amazing food. Things have changed. On our visit, The young lads behind the bar didn’t seem to know what was going on. The staff were not welcoming , at first, but then they did warm up! There seemed to be quite a few tables where they were waiting some time for their food… our food came pretty quickly and it was very tasty and plenty of it. But, the biggest problem was that the pub had no real ale and said that they had run out! A village pub, on a Sunday afternoon running out of real ale completely? Seems unbelievable. We had to have bottled beer!!! Disaster!!

What a lovely find ! The staff are so warm and friendly, and the food is properly homemade, great quality, and comes in mighty generous portions. We called in on spec for lunch and my hunk of quiche was the hugest and tastiest I’ve ever had anywhere! It came with a very tasty, large salad , large dollop of coleslaw, as well as a big bowl of new potatoes. Husband’s fish goujons in baguettes, with chips and salad, were also vast and delicious. The food is proper comfort food and fantastic value. There is a very pretty garden out the back, which we discovered walking from the car park - would be great in the summer. We were both really glad we stopped on spec while passing. Incidentally, we only just got a table as the pub was fully booked that Thursday lunchtime… which only goes to show how good the locals think it is !

Very good, tasty and potion size meals and helpful staff. They even made a slight change to a meal for our son and his autistic tastes. We will definitely be back when visiting the area.

Today I purchased 6 cheese straws from Cooplands in Driffield. These cheese straws were then carried home safely in amongst the rest of my shopping from various other shops this morning. When it came time for my sister to eat these cheese straws, she put 3 on her plate. She ate two of the 3 with no problem and then when she got to the third cheese straw she took two bites and let out a very loud “OW!” as she had bitten into something hard whilst chewing her cheese straw. She proceeded to spit out the mouthful of cheese straw she was chewing and looking at the mouthful on her plate to see if there was anything there. She gasped and said “Oh my god thats a stone” I said “don't be ridiculous theres no way” and then she picked it out of the chewed up mouthful of cheese straw and held out her hand and said “look A STONE” I couldn't believe my eyes , she was right it was a stone which she had bitten into whilst trying to enjoy her last cheese straw. Me and my sister, Jess, are appalled, horrified and disgusted that this has slipped past the quality checks. This stone could have seriously injured her teeth so thank god she realised and spat it out. This unfortunately puts an end to us purchasing baked goods at our local Cooplands. My sister is to quote her words “too traumatised to eat anything from Cooplands again”. I hope this gets picked up and reflected on and that it doesn’t happen to any other Cooplands customers. Many thanks.
