Decided to try Dexters to celebrate a birthday as it had been recommended highly by a number of friends. Booked a Saturday evening in advance using their easy online booking system. There’s a lovely ambiance as soon as you walk in with subdued and subtle lighting and well-spaced tables. A lovely warm greeting from staff and we were shown to our table. After a brief explanation of the menu and specials board, our drinks order was taken, and we were able to relax and soak up the atmosphere. The menu was well constructed with a small selection of appetisers and varied range of starters on offer to suit most tastes. Main course dishes were segregated into a selection of chef’s specials and a choice of steak cuts that included chateaubriand which took pride of place on the specials board, listed by weight. A number of tempting side accompaniments and sauces completed the menu. The absence of a chicken dish seemed to stand out but as this restaurant is renowned for its steak cuisine, perhaps not that surprising. There was also no salad option to cater for those wanting a lighter meal which would have been nice to see. My partner and I both opted for the scallop starter and requested the focaccia appetiser to accompany it. I have to say that when the dishes were brought to the table, the presentation was exquisite. The scallops were sweet to the taste and perfectly cooked with golden searing from the frying butter. The taste was well contrasted by the deep, slightly salty flavour from the black pudding sat beneath. A crispy bacon crumb and bed of smooth pea puree brought the whole dish together in a taste sensation. For main, the roast rump of lamb was the order of the day. Again, presentation of the main event was flawless! Two succulent, pink roast rumps of tender lamb adorned a bed of soft creamed leeks and dauphinoise potatoes. The dish was brough together by a mint pesto which complimented the lamb beautifully and a rich lamb jus. This was a ‘posh’ lamb dinner on a plate that really didn’t disappoint. I had high expectations going to the restaurant and I was very pleased to see them met. The chef and his team are bang on point as were the front of house staff. Thank you for a lovely evening. We will certainly be back!

First time at Dexters this week, but it won't be the last. Everything was perfect, the atmosphere, the decor, the staff and obviously the food. Has to be one of the top 3 steaks I've ever had

The restaurant was truly impressed with its large, succulent steaks, bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. The quality of the food is exceptional, offering great value for money. Eagerly looking forward to the next visit!

Couldn't have asked for a better dining experience at Dexter's, friendly and attentive staff who serve in a professional and friendly manner. There's no hassle and they leave you to enjoy your meal, not leaving you waiting for your next course either. We celebrated an anniversary here and shared the Chateaubriand which was cooked to perfection accompanied with Mac and cheese and creamed spinach both complimenting the meal and with distinctive flavours, the peppercorn sauce and shallot & herb sauces added a depth of flavour which we found to be exquisite. Would highly recommend anyone to come here for a top quality meal that you'll always remember.

I don’t really do food reviews much, but wow, the fillet steak I had here is incredible. Honestly one of, if not the, best steaks I’ve ever had. And I’ve eaten my fair share of steaks.

Beautiful restaurant, twinkly lighting, lots of wood and outstanding ribeye steak for 2 to share. Wine ok. All good and well except for the much too loud music playing (Tina Turner 's Proud Mary for goodness sake!) maybe something a little slower/softer so you can enjoy the £65 steak in peace, however the food is outstanding.

I cannot find a fault whenever I have a steak here, the staff are always incredibly friendly, the food is always out in good time and tastes amazing. Will always be my go to place when I or my partner deserve a treat.

Three of our party had the roast beef and one vegetarian wellington, at the ‘end of service’. Despite this, from the moment we arrived, the service was as impeccable as the food was excellent. Each course was served correctly with no delay, it was piping hot and beautifully presented. Great ambience too. Our guests are from a part of the UK where Michelin stars and superlative restaurants abound. We were delighted that our guests were exceptionally pleased with the standards of Dexters. Looking forward to visiting us in the summer when they can sample the amazingly aged fillet steaks. We have never been disappointed. Well recommended.

Beautiful place with a cozy ambiance. Food was delicious! We ordered the 40 day dry aged sirloin steak with garlic, shallot and herb sauce and a sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The herb sauce was unbelievable ❤️ Just wish the portion sizes of steak were a tad big bigger as the price is on the higher end. An honourable mention to the wonderful staff who were very friendly and mindful of my food allergies. Do recommend reserving in advance. Highly recommend this place for any special occasions or just to treat oneself. Will definitely be back here! ❤️

First time visiting this beautiful establishment last night, which happend to be a last minute booking. The building is lovely and beautifully decorated with a fireplace at one side and a view of the bar and kitchen as you look down the restaurant. The servers were polite and swift, the atmosphere was lovely and relaxed with about half of the restaurant booked and more coming in as we ate. The food was cooked to perfection. I had the chef's special (lamb) which had a red peppers and olive sauce with cheese and dauphinoise potatoes. Mocktail was also very nice and refreshing to drink. (Garden cooler) My date had Steak and a non alcohol cider but they had food envy once tasting the Lamb. It was melt in your mouth goodness. I'd highly recommend Dexters to family friends and co workers. (Infact I already have.) It was definitely worth the 30 minute drive and I look forward to returning again.

We've been meaning to try Dexters for a few years now, and we so happened to be travelling through Carmarthen during lunch time on a Monday, so we decided to stop for the set lunch menu - we're glad we did! For £27.50 for 3 course and a fillet steak, you honestly can't go wrong. Service was great, the restaurant inside is so cosy with the Christmas decorations, and the steak was cooked to absolute perfection. The best lunch we've had in a very long time and I was full for the rest of the day! I highly recommend stopping if you're in the area.

This place is just gorgeous. It's a beautiful, twinkly, relaxed atmosphere . The lighting is just right ,the staff are welcoming , polite, attentive. Service was amazing and the food is exceptionally good. Their menu isn't very big but you don't need that , there are options there for all tastes and to be honest once you have tried the steak you wont want to try anything else . I will definitely be visiting again

My friend and I have had a fantastic afternoon in Dexters! Friendly service and gorgeous food! We opted for the lunchtime specials menu which was excellent value. I had the most gorgeous fillet steak, perfectly cooked. My friend had the beautiful sea bass. The puds were also delicious. Can't fault it - as usual. Can't wait for my next visit. Diolch yn fawr x

Party of 4 had late Sunday lunch a week ago. Staff were so friendly and attentive. Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant. My starter of monkfish tails were perfectly cooked and delicious in a light crispy batter, followed by the slow roast beef which fell apart. Good selection of veg and plenty of gravy. Highly recommend Dexters

Had an absolutely delicious lunch here today! There was a two course lunch special for $24 including steak! Gorgeous place highly recommend!

Dexter's has always been a firm favourite for Sunday lunch, but the evening menu is also amazing! I love the fact that the ambience is so different in the evening and is perfect for an intimate or group evening meal. The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed and the staff are attentive, but also leave diners to sit, relax and enjoy; so there's absolutely no pressure at all in between courses and of course the menus deliver every time.

Steakhouse in the heart of Carmarthen Town, portions on the small side, found it to be somewhat overpriced other places selling the same quality for a cheaper option.. food was nice though

Took my wife to Dexters yesterday for our "date night" and it was fantastic. The food was brilliant and the staff were amazing. Highly recommended!

Myself an my husband had steak 🥩 an it was superb we had starters which were superb , an puds which were delicious , will definitely be back for more , staff were very good to polite an attentive down to earth lovely ladies .

Ordered starters of crispy beef & scallops. I've had better from farm foods. Complained & was told that everyone else was happy. Cancelled our order, paid for drinks & are now in Gingers ((best curry house in Carmarthen). Avoid Dexter's at all costs, food is atrocious....

Superb food and service. Highly recommend the scallops, the best I've tasted. Double cheeseburger and confit of pork were amazing. Deserts spectacular. Lovely location next to the river. What a find. We happened to drive past and thought we'd give it a try. Will definitely be back.

We went here for hubby 50th and had the chateaubriand! Super delicious and would highly recommend. We were really hungry so only took a few snaps.

My friend and I enjoyed the set menu. We had the option of a three - or two course meal. We chose a main and desert. The main consisted of a rump steak with peppercorn sauce salad and triple cooked chips. The food was delicious and well presented. The panacotta desert was delightfully refreshing, light, and scrumptious.

Booked online with one week advance, half of the food wasn't there because they were not updating regularly. If you sit outside, prepare yourself for all the frying oil smell from the kitchen blowing up on you, because they have no technology in place, so you ending up stinking like a chefs! Compare the prices, and the starts on Google Dexter's needs up to them games! My food was very nice (I'm a fish eater), my husband was okay with his steak, but wasn't over the moon. My mother of law was really disappointed, because no turkey was available,( apparently only Christmas, well we were at the end of July, can't believe it no one was updating) ending up with chicken nuggets from the kids section. Good but definitely place for improvement.

Myself, husband and children came for food on Friday evening and was most definitely an experience! The food is fantastic with good quality steaks and a varied menu. The staff were absolutely fantastic especially with having our 2 young children to cater to. We we welcomed by the manager Claire who was very accommodating to our requests and made sure we had everything we needed. All the staff were amazing and would 100% recommend this restaurant.

First time visting Dexters, it was recommended, so booked a table online, which was easy and convenient to use Gotta say an absolutely amazing time we had, the staff were really courteous and friendly, When our food arrived it was outstanding, our steaks were cooked to perfection 👌 and the potions were more than enough. Thanks to the staff for making our visit a great one, will definitely return, a great place must say if you like your Steak.

Sunday lunch, food, very disappointed. Aberdeen Angus, gristle and fat, not able to cut through the meat. Food nearly cold. We were first sitting, cold food, small portions. But expensive.

Well where do I start . We visited Dexters today 30 July 24. This was by far the worst experience ever at an expensive restaurant. As soon as we arrived my husband asked the waitress Clare for a pint of estrella, her attitude and the way she spoke to him was unacceptable. She was so unprofessional, miserable, rude and arrogant and made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. ( this is the second time that we have experienced her unprofessional and rude behaviour) after a long wait, she then sent her colleague to take our drinks order . My husband waited 30 minutes for a drink. By this point we decided to pay for my drink and leave. I decided to call the restaurant and make an official complaint. My details were noted by the Manager . I am now awaiting a call back from the Owner Alex. I hope Dexters take on board my comments and admit that the way we were treated by Clare is totally unacceptable. And if they had any respect for us as their customers issue us with a genuine and sincere apology!

First and foremost the staff are lovely! Welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. Food is excellent.

Coming here on a regular basis now at least once a month for date day with my wife, I hands down recommend these guys the place is absolutely gorgeous! The food specifically the filet steak was just mouth-wateringly delicious! The staff as always are professional and always tend to your needs with the upmost respect and professionalism. We will return time and time again.

Such a good experience, the food was all delicious, perfectly cooked and seasoned, perfect portion sizes too! We will absolutely be returning! Only let down was the vegetarian options, the risotto was a very small portion compared to the other mains we had, and the flavour was not as we'd hoped

We had a last minute booking but managed to find a table outside. The service was great, all the people who served us were sweet and attentive. The food: for starters we had scallops which was absolutely amazing and duck liver which was a little different to the tastebuds but was a good first time try! For our mains I had the lamb which was beautifully cooked and just fell apart the sauces on it were immaculate it also came with a side of potatoes with a creamy sauce which went so well with the lamb. My partner went for a steak which was also beautifully cooked and came with a side of fries. We also got a side of spinach with rarebit but was unfortunately not a massive fan of it. For dessert we had the coffee and truffles for which we requested for an iced coffee instead of regular coffee and we had a pint of coffee which was brilliant! I also had chocolate delice which was so delicious! For drinks we had a glass of wine and a non alcoholic red berry mojito - the mojito was an absolute hit for the both of us Overall we had a great time and will be visiting again. Thanks!

Table of two and we ordered from Lunch set menu ( 2 course for 20 £). We had Main course first, when asked for desserts the waitress brought both menus, a la carte(desserts) menu and the Lunch set menu. The dessert on the Lunch set menu was a panna cotta but we decited to have 2 desserts from the a la carte menu thinking we will have to pay a supplement for ordering other desserts(the panna cotta was also on the a la carte desserts menu priced very similar with the ones we ordered) . When I went to pay i checked the bill and on it it was the 2 desserts we ordered from the a la carte menu. So they wanted me to pay 40£ for the Main courses + 20£ for the desserts. The waitress didn't say we'll have to pay for the desserts when we ordered them. We wouldn't have ordered them. Why would i pay 20£ more when the whole meal was 40£. We would have been happy having the panna cotta, if knowing we need to pay the full price if we want other desserts . I said to the lady i'm sorry but i'm not happy to pay for them. She didn't say sorry or anything, she was blaming me for ordering other desserts. Eventually after seeing i refuse to pay she said she can take one dessert off the bill. Having enough i paid and left. I've been here many times and it was lovely every time. This time if they are happy to make 10£ off of me they got the 10 £ but they lost a customer. Food was very nice. But what a shame.

A bit of a treat as it's pricey but the Welsh lamb was the best I've had. The steaks looked very good too. We were all very full but couldn't resist the pudding menu. Would go again if in the area. Carmarthen is actually a very nice town lots of quirky shops and a once impressive castle that now has a town hall build in the middle of it which is a bit odd!

Great service, beautiful restaurant with good atmosphere, first visited in April 2022 & the food was amazing we’ve been 3 times since the last on 26th feb for partners birthday where I can honestly say food was lovely but has got decreasingly worse since we first went, sauces are smaller, salads are smaller, chips aren’t as good. Would still recommend but not sure why standards have dropped slightly but prices have increased greatly? last photo is when we first visited & first photo is last visit, food isn’t served on the board like it used to be which is also a shame as it was perfect as it was

Had a great meal here: The place : looks fantastic, it has that warm and cosy vibe with unobtrusive lighting. The Food: presentation was superb. Everything we ordered was very tasty. Can't fault it. The staff : friendly, polite, professional and knowledgeable. The price : slightly overpriced in my opinion considering location. Overall experience: I had a great time and am pretty much satisfied.

The food was fantastic, the bread, the salads, the chips and the steak simply melted. Now we know of Dexters we will be going again! There is a great atmosphere inside, warm and well decorated, with a fire. All concocted to aid in helping you to relax.

I am honestly blown away by the quality of Dexter's. I've wanted to dine here for as long as they have been open, but never really found the time, so when I was gifted a voucher by my partner's parents, "overjoyed" seems minimising. At last, I had an excuse to make the time. After getting all dressed up, we arrived and were seated at a gorgeous table underneath fairy lights, served water, and presented with menus and a wine list - if I hadn't downloaded the menu previously from their website I would have struggled to choose! Everything sounded delicious, but eventually we settled on starters of short rib and crispy calamari (the short-rib taking top prize); mains of ribeye steak with parmesan-truffle fries, house salad, garlic & shallot butter, and an extra side of mac&cheese; desserts of trifle and Biscoff sundae; and finally a round of decaf coffee with salted chocolate truffles. The wine (an Argentinian Malbec I had never tried) was a perfect compliment to the meal, the food was exquisitely presented, and the two servers who took care of us (Sophie and Mickey) were kind, efficient, and treated us with every consideration. The atmosphere was soft and romantic, the music was perfect, and I'll be remembering this night for as long as I live. I will absolutely be coming back, this wasn't just a meal - it was an experience like no other.

I love this place and enjoy it every time I go.. delicious food and cosy atmosphere. The outside is beautiful at night, and it's quite a treat overlooking the river Towy.

Went to Dexter last Wednesday had fantastic well presented Christmas day reasonably prized compared to hotels in town. Could not fault good, service wine. The swede were the best I have ever eaten. Will go again before Christmas

I mean just WOW! WHAT a spectacular place! My partner and I took a night off from our buisness and came hear having heard outstanding reviews- My partner has been a cheff for 20 years and I've been in and out if the industry front of house. I have to say the staff are apsolutly incredible and the cheffs are artists! We have not been that impressed for a long time - Many places claim to be fine dining and just don't hit that mark but this place Effortlessly did so with such class! The attention to detail was second to no one! So professional and freindly without being overwhelming - At all points we did not have to wait for a drink and the food was cleared and deliverd at exactly the right times- The lady who served us discreetly checked my wine before removing the glass which impressed me, the prices are exceptionally reasonable and the food was outstanding! Beautiful flavours delicately balanced with perfect portion sizes! We couldn't help but order multiple courses when we would usually only order two! You guys need to go for some rosettes because my word you deserve them (if you have not already!) We come from Pembrokeshire so have some lovely establishments in our area but you knocked the socks off them all! We were embarrassingly late due to unforseen road works but your staff made this seem like no bother whatsoever and simply said drive safe and we will see you when you get here! They could not have been more polite and welcoming- when as an 8 pm booking arriving 20 minutes late this must have been quite annoying! The music was perfect volume and fitted the mood and ambiance beautifully- The establishment was decorated to perfection and we found your dry aging cabinets highly impressive - we were there for two hours and everything just flew by in a haze of perfection! As buisness owners in this industry we were able for the first time to shut off from work and just enjoy the experience of a truly special place and have a wonderful date night that is incredibly rare for us! Thankyou all so much your entier team are absolutely incredible and as said before your cheffs are pure artists! 100 percent will return and will recomend to everyone we know! Thankyou again!

A fabulous steak restaurant serving wonderful steaks. There are other dishes to choose but predominantly a meat 🍖 restaurant. Good selection of starters and deserts. Good wine list. Overlooking the River. Staff are professional and friendly. Restaurant is very estetically done. All in all, a good eatery.

Wonderful atmosphere, lovely dining experience and the food was excellent. We loved the Welsh-speaking, helpful staff and had a lovely evening. We had the confit of pork and duck liver starters, fillet steak and lamb mains and Biscoff and salted caramel sundae and Rum Baba desserts with a delicious red to wash it all down. Highly recommended. 👌

Wonderful dinning at Dexters. With no reservation they were able to accommodate us, steaks were cooked perfectly, everyone and everything was 5 star.

Atmosphere and service excellent. Booked for 2.45 lamb and slow cook beef very tasty and good portion. Meal let down by cold hard roast potatoes ,shop bought bought sauce and you need to be a massive butter fan as swede and cabbage very rich.

Can't fault Dexters in terms of quality, fine dining - in a relaxed environment. Sunday lunches are superb here.

Meeting a friend for lunch I googled Carmarthen restaurants. Sort of hidden away a little as I didn’t realise it was here. Glad I found it though as it’s a gem. Great staff, great inside and great food. Had a flat iron for lunch and it was perfect, with delicious fries. As good as any steakhouse I’ve been to, and I’ve been to a lot!
