Denholm Meet in Scottish Borders

My husband and I go to the Denholm Meet in Denholm Scottish Borders every Saturday night, we love it! the food is amazing! so much so I have tried almost every dish on the menu, Chef is magnifico! as are Sara and all of her team, they are always so welcoming and attentive if you are looking for a super night/day out do try the Italian Denholm Meet, you will not be disappointed! 😃👍

Called in on route to Berwick. It's nice to stop off at a lovely village and try something different. We chose the chicken and Haloumi (Milano) ciabbatta, which was tasty. Worth a visit if you are in the area

I thought the waiter quite sullen and not at all very friendly, quite brusk. Not at all the sort of service one would expect with an Italian links. The food was warm, not hot with cold plates. All in all, not a good experience and agreed by our accompanying friends. Chay Blyth

What can I say best Italian restaurant for miles ! Always a treat to dine here can’t wait to return for our next outing . Food is absolutely superb.

A couple in our 50s - we enjoyed really tasty food. Actual, stop in your tracks - wow! This is GREAT! Perfect service too. The Napoli soup was something I had not tried before and a new taste sensation. My partner has mussels and then we both had different pasta dishes. There was a dessert to share and super coffee to finish. Love it. Easy parking, in a quiet village setting. Top marks all round. Again!

Chose to go here for our wedding anniversary lunch and it was excellent. My baked goats' cheese and peppers crostini was delicious, so was Pasta Alfonso. Finished with a biscotti and cream with coffee, all nicely cooked. Friendly atmosphere and helpful staff so we go here frequently. Highly recommended.

Visited here for family get together, we all shared starters followed by pizza and pasta !! Brilliant we all can’t wait to return (SOON)

stopped here for lunch and oh boy so glad we did we had 2 paninis with a lovely house red and coffee you could bathe in absolutely delicious cant weight to go back

Called in for lunch as a ‘walk in’. Warm welcome and friendly service. This is a family run Italian style cafe/ restaurant. Pizza base was light and the topping generous (Quattro staggioni). The risotto was tasty and beautifully cooked. Clearly a very experienced and competent chef. Food was so good we have booked for an evening meal later in the week.

Visited Denholm and this was the only place that was open to eat in. Just managed to get a table as we hadn’t booked. Several couples who turned up after us got turned away. Staff seemed a bit quirky at times. The mushroom risotto my wife ordered was very good and the beef filet with pasta I ordered was also good.

We had lunch at The Denholm Meet today and oh my goodness it was amazing! My husband and I both think it was one of the best Italian meals we have tasted. We were a bit concerned about some of the previous reviews about the staff but all staff were so attentive and accommodating. Will definitely return next time we visit the area.

Really poor service. After a long walk we arrived at this empty cafe mid morning. Asked to be seated outside because we had two dogs (and y'know COVID). The unfriendly staff refused to serve us outside despite the fact that there were outside tables clearly available (we were standing next to them) and there was almost no-one inside. A hard pass from me.

Stopped off for a quick coffee en route to Eyemouth. Excellent service, great coffee and tempting pastries. We succumbed to a fruit scone and amazingly good doughnut .

Popped in following a recommendation just for lunch today. Upstairs is a great little antiques dealership. Sat outside watching the world go by and enjoyed a couple of paninis with a pot of tea. Well worth dropping by with plenty of parking on the street by the green. Probably safer not to park in the car park as the main road is a tad feisty!

Had a very tasty vegetarian pizza with perfect dough and toppings. The menu has a lot of interesting choices with a good selection for vegetarians. There is also a specials board with unusual dishes on. Lovely service too. Glad we stopped here. Hiighly recommend!

Had dinner here on Saturday evening and it was a lovely choice ! Sadly we had been on the go over 30 hours and the tiredness got the better of use before we could have dessert ,but the starter and mains showed what a great little find this place is ,the staff looked after us very well and we will be back

My husband and I found this lovely place whilst on holiday. It is probably the nicest pasta I’ve ever had. I had Gost cheese tortellini and my husband had lasagne. My partner and I stumbled across The Denholm Meet after completing a 15 mile walk. We were very well accepted in our walking gear and were promptly shown to our table. The service was polite and friendly and, quite rightly, there was a bit of waiting time before our food arrived freshly made (if you want run of the mill fast food straight from the freezer, then don't come here).I enjoyed a pizza and my partner cannelloni and we even had a 'pudding' to follow washed down with a couple of Italian ciders.overall, a wonderful experience.

I stumbled upon this place whilst in Denholm. Popped in and I was greeted by lovely welcoming staff. The food was delicious and, although I didn’t indulge, the cakes looked gorgeous. Chef was out chatting the customers and the place had a lovely atmosphere. Nice little seated area out the back also.

My husband and I visited here (the restaurant in Denholm, not the one in Hawick) for dinner in May 2019. The start was good, as we were welcomed by a very nice lady. The menu was huge but looked nice. I should probably start by saying I am Italian so I know my Italian food. I went for baby octopus for starters. This was nice but served with way too much over reduced tomato sauce, which masked its flavour and made it a bit sickly by the end. Also I found a little stone in it but I think that might have been in one of the octopus. I then ordered spaghetti with clams which took a long while to come ... When they came I noticed I didn't have spaghetti and I didn't have clams. What I had was mixed seafood pasta (massels, a king prawn, some squid and some prawns) but not a single clam. I love seafood and I couldn't be bothered waiting while my husband was eating his main, so I eat it but politely pointed out to one of the waitresses that what I had wasn't what I ordered even though I enjoyed it. She didn't seem to bothered since I told her I enjoyed it. Finally my husband ordered profiteroles and they really weren't nice. the shoe pastry was hard and the filling was tasteless. When we got to pay, I got the impression I was charged more for my "mixed seafood" pasta compared to what I would have been charged if I got what I ordered. Overall I am not impressed and would not be back sadly.

My husband and I had a superb lunch at the Denholm Meet the other day. Situated on the corner of the green, we were given a warm welcome when we entered. I had a very generous portion of tuna and prawn salad and my othr half, a delicious mushroom risotto (I know because I tried some). After lunch, we proceeded upstairs to an Aladin's Cave of interesting goods, both modern and antique. Would have spent a lot longer, but my other half is not much of a shopper. I will definitely return (with a girlfriend) in the future.

I really like Italian food, it’s probably my favourite type of food.

My partner and I drove past The Denholm Meet and thought it looked nice for a morning coffee so we decided to try it. The waitress was so lovely and inviting and instantly we wanted to stay. We asked what pastries they did if any and she kindly listed the options and described each one, so we opted to try two things neither of us have had before although I can't remember the name of either of them. They were absolutely amazing, so light and full of flavour and the coffee was also spot on! Also a really reasonable price. Wish we lived closer as we could definitely try the lunch and dinner menu but unfortunately we live 4 hours away and were just on a trip. I recommend you make a stop here!

if you really want try something different in the borders that is the place to go,there is not a place around with such a excellent food,first class service and the owner is a really professional chef,around the tables going to ask if everything was fine,not many chef doing that.

We really had an excellent late lunch with fantastic service, therefore we were shocked when after we paid for the meal and my 87 year old Dad decided to buy a coupe of drinks (both doubles) and nearly fainted at the price which came to nearly half of what we paid for the meal. When the drinks were ordered (from a pensioner) we were not offered the drinks menu or told how much in advance it would cost, my husband thought it must be a mistake. We thought the measures must have been wrong also as my Dads Amaretto was very small. We were told that it was because of the two ice cubes in the other drink that made it look smaller. We left with a bad taste in our mouth as we felt we had been ripped off by not being warned of the extortinate rate of the drinks especially when clearly you could see the age of my Father. My husband wouldnt let him pay so paid for the whole thing. Its such a shame as we wont be back.

Four of us had a meal here and enjoyed it very much. Lovely atmosphere and decor and friendly helpful staff. The food was good and nicely presented. will definitely go again. No complaints whatsoever.

This was my second visit to The Denholm Meet and I have to say my latest visit was exceptional. The food was it`s usual high standard but I was particularly impressed by the welcoming staff.

Italian food, well prepared, fresh ingredients, very tasty and reasonably priced too! What more could you want........there is also a good antique shop upstairs to browse after a meal.

Last night we had dinner with friends in the Denholm Meet. The hospitality and food were fantastic. The restaurant serves typical Italian fare with a modern twist and has a fantastic range of daily specials.

Don’t normally leave reviews good or bad. Was on holiday in the area. Had to say the food and service here were both excellent! Good value too. Only draw back is it’s not nearer home.

Visited for Saturday lunch as a little treat! New menu is in place with vast offerings and indeed difficult to choose what to have - all looked good! But we settled on 3 different pasts dishes & as usual were not disappointed! Great food, great service and all washed down with a buzzing atmosphere ( even at lunchtime but typical of a good Italian!) unfortunately only sad point was we didn’t have any room left for one of the tempting sweets BUT never mind just gives us an excuse to visit again!

A simple lunch in this cafe proved too much for the limited abilities of whomsoever does the cooking. I was unable to eat a humble pizza which was absolutely swimming in oil. The pizza came to the table cold and the oil was literally running all over the now soggy pizza. Really disgusting. My wife had a modest pasta dish which lacked any flavour at all. I have rarely seen such truly awful food. How any self respecting cook could be happy allowing this to leave a kitchen is beyond me.

Dropped in here for an early supper one evening after reading about it in the Jed Eye and it was super. Have eaten there 3 or 4 times since and ALWAYS been excellent

The meet is under new management and I would like to continue recommending this excellent place. The new owner is also Italian and has retained the high standard of food. The staff were very helpful and attentive creating a lovely atmosphere to enjoy the beautiful meal we experienced.

Delicious food, wide menu choice and great friendly service. 3rd visit and we will be back again. Brilliant addition not only to the village but to the Borders.

Excellent food in a really nice cafe with freindly staff. Scones and cakes on display first thing you notice and they looked and tasted wonderful there is also a nice antique shop upstairs which is with a visit.

This restaurant has recently changed hands for the better !

This has recently changed hands and served the best Italian meal we've had in a long time. There is a range of fresh pasta, meat, fish and pizza options. The Minestrone soup was really fresh with chunky veg while the Spaghetti Mare has loads of seafood and flavour. A fab range of deserts and cakes with lovely coffee make a fine end to the meal. Well worth a detour to visit this place.

en route to kirk yetholm, struggling to get a meal. stopped in Hawick to check this place out. a little awkward to find as narrow frontage hidden under an overhang and looks a bit like a shop. lovely inside, seated without issue despite not having booked. bit surprised to see the food was Italian! didn't expect that from the name. I am not a pizza or pasta fan so took a little time for me to find something i fancied. settled on Antonio's risotto... and boy, am i glad i did. utterly delicious. large portion and so tasty!. friend got a pasta dish served with a ragu of lamb... took one mouthful.... stopped to put her hand to her face. oh oh. trouble?? not at all! the flavour had overwhelmed her it seemed! said it was the best meal she had had for some time - high praise indeed as she loves a good meal. no puddings as our mains filled us up. i had coffee... again i often judge a place on its coffee. and i was not disappointed. best coffee I've possibly ever had - it was delicious. had to get another.

We tried this placed on a recommendation and wish we hadn't bothered. The food is very poor and the service a mess. The waitress was doing her best, and a delightful person, but she was disorganised and confused, unable to pronounce things on the menu, couldn't remember how many people we were!

Second visit to Denholm Meet and second time that it was excellent.

Called in following a Sunday afternoon drive and were met by friendly staff, hot food and a pleasant ambience. City quality food at country prices. Would thoroughly recommend risotto Antonio. Will be back and would recommend thoroughly.

Have always found everything about this place to be excellent. Ambience is surely one of the best in the Borders. Is the previous reviewer speaking about the same place? Pity, he/she had not taken a photo of said event.

Went to go for a drink as was recommended but when we arrived there were 4 people outside completely drunk and blocking the door, so we did not bother, giving impression that we would not like this place

Having visited friends in the area decided to call at Denholme Meet for lunch.......called a couple of years ago and decided to revisit, and met with a great surprise.......The garden and terrace area laden with beautiful tubs of flowers and fabulous garden furniture...on entering met with more surprises.....all repainted inside and looked so much brighter......We had an excellent meal served by very attentive staff.......the whole experience was was such a delight.......Cannot wait to return to try an evening meal.........Well done Antonio and Family.....

This used to be a superb cafe but new ownership has changed all that. It is now pretentious and expensive in its quest to go upmarket. They may have cushions on the seats and serve cake on slates rather than plates but that does not justify a 50% price hike especially in the price of coffee.

Fantastic day out, vintage and classic cars, motor cycles, displayed on the Green until 1pm then they set off in one minute intervals to tour round the Borders byways.

Have visited the Denholm Meet a lot over the years, mainly drawn by the lovely antiques upstairs! Although I had the odd lunch and coffee there I felt it was over priced and the attitude of the man who owned it and his staff was offhand and sometimes downright rude! However the new 'management' is superb, the owner goes above and beyond! Even helping me to the car with a bulky purchase from upstairs! The food is much improved as is the decor,and the personal touch from the new owner is the cherry on the cake. Hope it does as well as it deserves to-and I am sure it will!

Was not expecting the genuine Italian experience in the sleepy village of Denholm, food and service excellent. Chef very attentive ensuring customers happy with their meals. A jewel in the borders not to be missed. In the words of Arnold ‘I’ll be back!”

Who would have thought........ fantastic Italian cuisine served with style & panache! A must for Sunday brunch or a little touch of pasta! Cakes to die for & all served up with great Scottish hospitality! A must place to visit SOON and for me AGAIN & AGAIN!

After my initial review, we visited this restaurant many times afterwards & each time we felt that the whole restaurant had deteriorated. From the level of waitress service, rude and argumentative to the cleanliness and general poor quality of food.

After reading reviews and having visited in the past- we were looking forward to our meal out. Fish and chips was not crisp and fresh, pizza was not anywhere near the photos on the website.... after paying for each additional item - there were maybe 4 olives, not even one whole mushroom - sliced... lots of crispy crust - not so much topping...

The food was hot but asked for penne pasta instead of spaghetti they said fine but when the meal arrived it was spaghetti as they’d run out of penne ! Also ordered a mixed salad but it didn’t arrive with the meals so the waitress said she’d go and get it then a different waitress came and said they’d run out of salad . Ordered a Diet Coke hadn’t come after 10 mins so had to go and ask for it again . The bill wasn’t itemised so could not check what we’d been charged for ! All in all a very disappointing experience.

My wife and I dined at the Meet last Friday before finishing our weeks stay in Jedburgh. It was clear from when we went in that most of the customers were regular and when we got our meals we could see why. Both our meals were excellent and didn't cost the earth. The service was really good and the atmosphere in the restaurant was the same. If we had of dined there earlier in the week, we would of most definetly returned. As it is, it will be first on our list for when we return to the Borders. Keep up the excellent standard as it is a credit to all the staff and Denholm itself.

The food, drink and service were excellent. Was visiting my sister in the village and we met with another friend and went in for lunch. The food was lovely, the service excellent while at the same time friendly. We decided to sit on and have cheeseboard and wine while chatting and there was no feeling of being rushed despite The Meet being fairly busy. Lovely ambience.

I wanted to give 5 stars and as far as the food is concerned I do. However the star is taken away owing to the rather erratic service which was concentrated on those patrons who obviously are ‘regulars’ and needed banter and extended conversation.

Am a regular at The Denholm Meet and cannot fault it. Food is always amazing and I love the atmosphere. Staff are very friendly - nothing is too much trouble for them. I have had breakfast, lunch and dinner there and would recommend to all.

Have used the Denholm Meet many times since we moved to the area. It is inconsistent, you can have a fabulous meal and good service, or you can have ok food, bad service. Just depends. If there is a large party in, you will have less good food and service, but the main issue we have with it is the noise level.

Visited the Denholm Meet while on holidayon a rainy day. Our day brightened after our visit to The Meet. Great service and food was delicious. Salmon Penne Pasta delicious and Cheeseburger served with home made chips are recommended. Pizza was served at next table and looked fab. Lots of choices for toppings, make up your own. Restaurant was busy which was great, folk in for lunch and coffees and also a look upstairs at the Antiques shop. Well worth a visit and will return.

We were in between meetings and stopped for a quick lunch. Spoilt for choice with a fab menu and so many choices but we managed. Will be back to try something else very soon.

Booked three days prior. Made to feel very welcome by Pino the manager. Big enough menu for a small restaurant in a village. Pizza and carbonara to die for. Desserts equally good. Recently taken over by new and enthusiastic owner this restaurant always had good food but the management style let it dow.. Refurbished and with new owner it is proving a hit with locals returning and service and attitude transformed.Have been regulars since Christmas...diet permitting!

For an excellent meal at a fantastic price - this is the place to go! Pino has returned and brought great food, good service with a smile and a great selection of wines and cocktails for our pleasure! Good for a special night out OR just because you can't be bothered to cook! Definitely worth a visit ....or two .... or three! Can't wait till the cake & prosecco afternoons start!!!!!
