Deep Blue Restaurants in Waverley

This fish & chip takeway has gone now, having been superceded by "Oh My Cod" restaurant and takeway. Deep Blue was comparitively expensive for mediocre fish & chips that always had an odd, cloying smell, either from old, or maybe burnt, oil. Not sure which, but it was unpleasant. Also, they stopped selling pea fritters some time ago, which were a fovourite with the locals. If you don't listen to your customers, they vote with their feet. All in all, not surprising Deep Blue failed in Godalming.

Sausage was catering quality , so sad when such rich local produce in close proximity. Easily accessible and delivered from local producers, supports local traders,growers and delivers true Taste.

The food was expensive. Onion rings tasted like fish and very oily, doesn't look nice to eat either. The chips were very salty. And the burger was absolutely rank! Worse meal we've had and money wasted!!!

Overpriced nearly 16 quid for cod,chips and curry sauce and can, tiny portion, assistant kept looking at her watch, reheated chips tasted like oven chips, asked for cod but it didn't look or taste like cod. Rip offfff

Had large fish chips which I can only think had been reheated or refried as they were awful. Chips were hard fish batter taste was beyond fresh.

THE MANAGER, DANIEL BOLOS WAS COURTEOUS AND HELPFUL FROM MAKING THE BOOKING, WAY BACK IN THE SPRING, TO DELIVERY TO OUR VENUE LAST EVENING. HIS "CAN DO" ATTITUDE WAS REFRESHING AND THE FISH AND CHIPS DELICIOUS. WHAT A FIND, I WOULD NOT HESITATE TO RECOMMEND DEEP BLUE AND WILL USE THEM AGAIN WITHOUT HESITATION.

A tiny slither of fish deemed to be considered a "regular cod". The fish is overcooked and dry, the chips are undercooked enough to cause indigestion. We have bought fish and chips from Deep Blue semi regularly over the last 5 years, it's generally not the best but good enough, but this time it was so bad we'll never return.

Every time I give them “another chance “ they are a big let down. Cold food, rubbery chips that have too many black bits in, and slow moronic service. Don’t bother.

I came across this place as I needed to grab a quick bite en route. Great fish n chips & friendly service. It was chucking it down outside so the kind staff let me perch and eat my dinner at a table. The place was busy with Deliveroo drivers and lots of customers.

Disappointed with our meals. We sat down to have our meal and the fish batter was like concrete and the fish were both very dry so overcooked. They went in the bin after spending £25.65 on a takeaway meal after a hard days work. This place is very disappointing!!!

Just bought 2 large chips over £8 worth and they are very dry and poor, probably reheated from lunchtime. I don’t believe these should've been served to us. Curry sauce was ok.

Customer service was very poor. When placing the order the person at the till was confused and did not explain what is included and in the end I got a bad deal. Make yourself a favour going straight to self check out. It will be more clear and you'll save money (something I found out too late). I did take away but they did not even provide any cutlery or tissues. Also, their business model is very money oriented and charging for a basic sauce is unnecessary. The chips were very dry and fish was okay. I have had much better fish and chips and cheaper too. Not eating here again.

Sad to find that the quality of both staff and food is not what it used to be. The fish was all batter and the chips were hard and tasted like they had been cooked in a cheap oil. The staff were young and inattentive, a real shame this used to be a great little establishment.

The young women there served me was very nice a polite she looks after her self too the atmosphere and the vibe she was giving off was very positive and very welcoming thanks. 🙏

Stayed in Godalming for a few nights. Wanted take away fish and chips on evening of arrival. Ordered on line turned up at the selected time. Staff reacted immediately I stepped through the door. Confirmed the order and made it up. Was back out the door in a few minutes. Perfect service good fish and chips and mushy peas. Only improvement would be if they produced a lighter crisper batter they would have got a five star review.

Chips was OK but the chicken nuggets/bites absolutely disgusting and at a cost of £11 not for me no wonder it was empty overpriced and not a place I will be returning I basically paid £11 for a bag of chips!

Collected our online order to take home and we got over cooked scampi the cod bites were cold and the cod and chips too. Disappointed so in future, we will just go and order and take home because it is normally really good hot food. Shame really.

Ordered 12 meals the day before to pick up at 1220hrs. Everything was ready on time, the order was 100% accurate, well cooked, good portions. What's not to like? 😁👍

The worst chip shop around and probably the most expensive went their for lunch 2 weeks ago payed £19 for fish chips and gravy and a battered sausage the fish was ment to be large it came out about 10 mm thick and was well over cooked it wasn't left to drain the oil so it soaked oil all on the chips the gravy was like water and taste of nothing that battered sausage had no taste it was pure white inside must be the cheapest sausage they could by and charging something like 3.80 for it I will never go here again 3.99 for a small chips crazy prices I can see this place not being here much longer

Visited this fish and chip restaurant today with my autistic daughter for the first time. My daughter is on a strict gluten free diet. The two staff who specially prepared her fish on rice flour and served us could not have been kinder or more obliging. My daughter demolished the food and could not have been happier. My husband and I had cod and chips at this place last night. Although it tasted normal, I started feeling bloated and queasy before I was even half way through my cod, and couldn't finish it. However, my husband finished all of his cod before he started complaining about feeling really nauseous. We went to bed three hours earlier than usual, but in the small hours of the next morning, my husband started vomiting and didn't stop for a very long time. It's nearly midday the day after our encounter and he is so exhausted he can barely get out of bed. We are NEVER returning to this place again, and if I could get health and safety to run an inspection on it, I would! If you value your guts, stay far away.

I went in for a quick takeaway fish and chips lunch. They are currently have an offer on free chips when buying a fish (just show them the offer - you can find it on their Facebook page). I had the hake. It was delicious. The batter was crispy the size of those chips is amazing. The chips were freshly cooked. Definitely will go back

I order recently from here, the food was absolutely delicious, I order haddock and chips large size, haloumi burger and fish bites, the portions are huge, and well cooked, they were very busy but, they whent the extra mile and give us a free portion of chips because of the waiting time. Very difficult to fault. If you’re a simple cod and chips man like me then you’ll be satisfied, it’s as simple as that. Prices are punchy but that’s Surrey for you - it’s a long way from the sea.

The food was awful. Chips were undercooked, the fish was flat, overly chewy and the batter was awful. No batter on my battered sausage and tasted horrendous. Threw everything in the bin. Waste of £20, which is also way over priced for the standard of the food.

I called in at about 7pm yesterday Friday 4 Nov. Ordered two medium fish and one medium chips. Was served promptly. Drove home quickly. It was all delicious. Light batter, well cooked fish and nice chips. Best F and C we have had for ages.

Decent chippy, good quality food, tasty sauces, what's more to want. Some reviews giving out on service speed... Perhaps an issue when it's busy but everyone struggles with high order demand.... ask yourself why there's lots of orders...good quality food. I've often ordered online and has been just fine.

Fish was ok but chips warm and soggy when I complained I heard the manager saying to the young assistant dont worry about it you always get some moany customers.She came back sometime later and offered to change the chips but we had nearly finished our fish so it wasnt worth it.All the chips were left.Maybe some customer service training is needed.

Came for food with me and my friends for some dinner food was lovely. There was a young girl on the front serving and she was so polite would definitely come again.

I had ordered many times with no problems quality and value were I thought good. I went in to order and was told there was no medium cod so I ordered the large cod chips and curry sauce for £14.87 I got a medium batter! very small chips and half a pot of curry sauce! I would have more respect if they put up the prices rather than ripping off loyal customers. I have read the ‘no medium cod’ in other reviews. They are selling medium cod as large but it’s all batter. This is the only take out I use. I won’t go again as there are other places to spend my money and feel like a valued customer. Very disappointing.

Called in last night for tea with my elderly mother and young (sen) son. We Ordered take away and Ellie the young lady who served us was a delight. She explained that they may be a slight delay in the order as it was being prepared fresh for us. She offered to get my mother a chair while we waited and chatted to my son. She was so friendly and polite a pleasure to be served by. The food was good but will be returning for the staff..

Avoid like the plague. 35 minutes for 2 portions of fish & chips? I could've caught it & cooked it myself in that time. Then drove 10 minutes home to find only 1 portion of chips in the bag! Absolute joke of an establishment & I will never ever return. My advice to anyone is to take a 5 minute drive to Brotherwoods in Farncombe - they will never ever let you down & you'll probably save a few quid too.

Just awful! Please do not go here for a quick & easy takeaway...I ordered, Cod & Chips, Haddock & chips, chicken bites & halloumi bites. This took well over 30 minutes & lots of customers were receiving their orders before me (I had ordered first) There were only 2 tables dining inside & they had to ask where their food was too....multiple times. I had also wanted the Salt & Pepper Squid (listed on the enormous menu on the wall) however, I was told they "didn't do it"!!? I waited patiently & only when my husband called did I tell him the issues (not loudly, but so as it was noticeable) my order was finally ready & the young girl serving (who was doing the best she possibly could) said she had put some extras in my order to apologise, excellent! Thank you so much!.... When we got home, there were no extras & they had left out a portion of chips!!! I really do not recommend for the food or the service.

Very disappointing meal again from Deep Blue. Delivered food was tepid. Fish was dry and hard and chips insipid. Other times has been good, maybe the time one orders has something to do with the quality? For good fish, get freshly cooked, how you find out when that is done I don’t know, but what a waste of a good fish!

Food is flavourless and an absolute rip off! £3 for a small chips and I do mean small!! And then the same price for a saveloy, absolute robbery!! 😠

Fantastic I ordered a senior portion and it was huge..not able to finish it all...tables were cleared and cleaned as soon as customers left .excellent service and hardly any waiting time the food was fantastic great fish and batter even given bread and butter it's 100% plus..visited on Friday..not good we were the only people in there other tan staff.we used to have a cup of tea and bread and butter included in the price of a pensioners meal .not any more this has to be purchased separately. Much smaller portion plus quality is not as good..prices have rocketed..all this clearly reflected on lack of customer s...neither one of us finished our meals...just a complete letdown..doubt we will ever go back again and certainly as it is now we'd never recommend you visit

For the second time running, booked an order online for a specific pick-up time. Get there on time. Stand around waiting for 5 minutes with no one acknowledging you. Finally get to ask for your order number - told it will be done shortly. More people come and go, I'm still stood there. Saw someone write the order number on a bag. I asked if that was my order - told no, its a deliveroo order. Waiting another 5 minutes (15 minutes after collection time). Ask if my order is going to be ready soon and give my order number. What happens? He gives it to me from the keep warm cupboard where its been sat for 10 minutes. I said "I've already asked if that was mine and I was told no" - no apology, no acknowledging why I'm pissed. This happened to me previously too. I get that they are busy but there is no basic customer service.

What has happened to this place? Me and my partner use to love going here and dinning in, and loved the fish. This was pre-2019 We visited today. I was served a small fish which had no flesh. It was just like eating crispy fish skin. I felt it shocking, and was this joke on us??? It felt deliberate it was that bad...You need to change your cook and your staff, as they are very them and us attitude and we may as well serve bad food as they always complain... My partner had to swap his plate with mine, and felt guilty for taking me there. He wanted to treat me, and it ended uo a miserable experience. Terrible, just terrible. The only thing that was good was the cup of tea. I cost my partner over £31.74 for this meal, and the experience we will not forget. We may have well have gone to a nice pub, and had a nice meal instead. I have complained to the company about this...

This place has gone down hill over last two year, so there must have been a management change or staff. We ordered large fish and chips today, and it was the worst fish i have ever had. It seemed like it was a joke on us, as I got what appeared to be just fish skin dipped in batter with no flesh at all. My partner changed it for his, and agreed it was just terrible. Im sorry but the standards have drastically dropped here since pre-2019. So sad to see it as it use to be fantastic, but not now... The portions are so much smaller, the fish was small not large, and not to mention just crispy fish skin. We are so upset that we paid £31.75 for this shabby meal. Will never go back. I have emailed the company over this.
