Called in for fish and chips. When we placed our order we were told that we’d have a 30 minute wait as there was a big order to be ready for 7 pm. We said we’d wait but the lovely guy doing the frying overheard and said he’d fit us in with the big order… so we got our haddock and chips in about 5 minutes. Excellent friendly customer service and the best haddock and chips we’ve had in ages, cooked to perfection, no grease, crispy light batter and lovely chips. Fantastic!

Lovely fish and chips, we took out and ate them in the picnic areas near the car park. Really nice area of Helmsley, right in the town centre, staff were very friendly and efficient.

Helmsley Specials - cooked to order and after a wait due to a busy night, disappointing - the fish batter was good but the fish inside not heated sufficiently. The chips were overcooked and dark brown.

Went for a take away fish and chips. Ordering and service efficient. Fish was good. Chips were horrible. I have never had chips so badly cooked. They were dark brown hard to cut and chewy. They had a strange taste. I don’t think I have ever thrown chips in the bin but I did then.

We were stopping locally, and after a really busy day, we thought chips for teatime. Carole and Andy were just great, despite a slightly awkward order, nothing was too much trouble. Food was really nice and service was just great.

Visited today and the lady was above nice. The tea and coffee was brought out far to soon. So was cold when eating. The chips looked very nice until you cut one. Then very hard in middle. Then I went to toilet after out meal to find shock horror and the toilet pan was behold anything I'd seen in a restaurant it was brown in bottom and round the pan was brown and to be honest discussing. Had I been to the toilet before having our meal we would of left. The sanity bin I could of written my name in it. The door opens straight into restaurant and is a total health hazard. Unfortunately mother and I will not be returning. Shame there facilties let's it down with such horrendous toilets. I recommend that if you eat in this fish shop. You got to public toilets opposite as much clearer.

Just takeaway fish and chips. But excellent hot tasty chips and lovely battered cod. The mushy peas were hot and well seasoned. The fish white and flakey.

this will forever be my favourite fish and chip shop. However, this is my second time using the online ordering system and both times have we got our order on different time, late in fact by about 10-15 minutes. if i wanted it 10-15 minutes late id pick a later time, but i don’t i wanted it on the time i picked.

Been twice now, the 2nd to see if the first was a one off, it wasnt. Everything about the service was slow (not lady serving fault.

Spot on. Nice location. Fish and chips cooked to a turn. Well priced. Minimum fuss. Was there in mid 2022 but tripadvisor doesn't go that far back so put Nov 2022.

Really nice fish and chips. Shop was quiet so could see everything being cooked fresh to order. Best batter I've had in a long time, crisp but not greasy. Lovely chips and a nice portion of scraps. Not cheap but you get a very good sized portion of fish for the money and a ton of chips, enough that I could save some for the next day. Done properly in beef dripping which makes a huge difference. Lovely, will return next time I'm in Helmsley. Staff were really friendly too. Even staying patient and professional with the very rude customer in front of me.

On holiday staying in Hawton we had a takeaway here on two occasions each time the customer service was very good and the cod and chips were of good quality and priced well.

Came here a few weeks ago and they were scrappy and chips were dried up. I notified the company and got a voucher code to try again. We travelled 55 miles totalling 110 miles . the manager was very polite and said they would accept the voucher for £2o so I ordered a large cod and 2 hake meal deals for my son and hubby. when mine was put on the counter i opened it to put salt and vinegar on . I was shocked as it was very well done and scrappy. most of the batter was missing . I asked told the assistant and they said they would cook me a fresh one. After waiting a few minute i was given a fresh one and he said to take the other too as it would only be thrown out. When I got back to the car to eat it ,this also was just as bad as the other fish but it was also swimming in grease. my son and husbands were scrappy too and we threw most of them away as they were so bad. This is disappointing as we have been going there a couple of years now and until a few weeks ago i would have said they were the best ever. I don't know what has happened, maybe it has new owners in or new fryer but such a shame.

Possibley the worst fish and chips ever. Went for lunch today. Restaurant closed although signs on windows said it should be open. Ordered takeaway instead. The fish size was tiny. I think one fillet cut in two. The fish was overcooked and dry. The chips were clearly reheated and shrivelled so nothing left inside. They also tasted of stale fat. As I threw them away I mentioned how dreadful they were to the chap behind the counter and he just shrugged!!!

The gluten free fish and chips at this establishment are the best I’ve ever had…you would never know the difference, tasted absolutely amazing. I would highly recommend to anyone who has a gluten free diet, they are amazing. This was all topped off with extremely friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

No regular cod available had to purchase large for extra but wasn’t what I would call large. Curry was delicious proper fish shop curry overall very nice meal.

OMG cod & chips were amazing!! In fact, I'll go so far as to say these were the best fish & chips I've ever had!! It looked as though the items had been left in the fryer a little longer, which made the batter a rich golden colour, crispy and absolutely no sogginess.
