One of the nicest fish and chips we’ve had for a while. Perfect batter, lovely thick fresh fish, and great chips - not soggy and not too crispy.

Very poor and expensive. No choice of fish, or portion sizes, even chips. Cash only. So it's £10 for which you get overbattered small tasteless fish. Overcooked and just bad all round. Avoid.

These were the best fish and chips we've had so far. The fish with the breading was particularly good. We didn't even find a shop that was ranked third in the UK better.

Just popped in on the way home for a quick stop. Had the best Chips perfectly cooked in years. I do mean years. Perfect soft tasty chips and great peice of fish. Pete 👌👌👍

Asked for fish and chips not sure what the fish was but it was minature and overcooked and not much fish on it chips were nice

This place says cash only... Well will leave it to you to decide. Seen the reviews and was on our way to the caravan... The other reviews are true. Basically they only take cash and as a thank you the fish was 1-2 cm thick yes I measured and not very wide. It's ok they give 95% chips. First and last time . £19.50 for 2 fish and chips and 1 curry sauce. These lucky greddy sods should be done for fraud. Never ever had such a small fish.

Bought 2x fish and chips at a cost of £18. When we got home the fish was non existent or suffered from severe anorexia. The batter was dark and had an after taste to it (oil prob needed changing) for £18 I would have expected better

Lovely fish and chips and I am very picky. Not the biggest portion though and expensive to home but in line with the area. Wait times were long, seemed to be cooking to order despite a queue in the street.

I don't know why there are so bad reviews about this place. For me, it was one of the best fish and chips I ever ate. Thank you ☺️

Very disappointing fish and chips. Fish was small, overcooked and the fish had a peculiar texture. This has put us off fish and chips for a while.

Disappointed to ask for a large portion of chips to only receive one that would barely scrape into being average, yet still cost a whopping 50% more than I pay at home in the cotswolds. The chips were good enough but I can't get my head around a highly priced stingy portion for what is a very cheap foodstuff.

Visited on the way back from flamingo land, food was great and staff were friendly. Will definitely be returning.

Called by whilst on a day out here had chips but for £2.30 not many in the carton though were very nice and hot, where I live close to town you would get twice the portion they served for cheaper,maybe paying more for countryside location. clean shop and nice pleasant staff.covid rules only 1 in at a time.plenty of choice elsewhere .

I Was passing by and noticed some people coming out with trays of golden fish and chips, so you know I had to head on in and purchase some for myself. As expected from the smiles on everyone’s faces that I’d passed on the way up the street, the fish was fresh and golden with crispy batter and the chips were REAL but equally importantly - great. I will definitely be returning.

I was recommended this fish and chip shop by the locals in the town and they were definitely right, these were the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Quality fish and chips cooked to order, no wonder they were so busy.

Great value and friendly staff, not too long to wait as they were very busy at the time of our arrival. Cooked fresh whilst we socially Distanced outside watching in through the window.

We walked past this shop and it smelt delicious, so we asked to order fish and chips to collect on our return. They were being cooked when we called back and were piping hot and absolutely delicious. We took them back to our b/b a short walk away and sat in the garden and ate them in the paper (as they should be eaten) Proper fish and chips great batter and we enjoyed them very much. Friendly efficient staff and great value. Only wished we lived nearer to have them regularily. Will definitely go again on our next visit.

So so poor, I've seen goldfish bigger than what I got for withalmost £10 with two bags of rough cut potatoes.

Good price. Good service. Great food. A great place to stop for a bite to eat all round. We will definitely be recommending to friends and returning ourselves.

We walked in and placed our order, it was served up quickly as fish was just coming out. The fish tasted fresh with crispy batter and the staff were friendly. This is our second visit in 2 days and we have been met with the same experience both times so we will hopefully be visiting again next time we’re staying in Helmsley.

Visited whilst on holiday with a simple order. Unfortunately I was kept waiting outside for about 20 minutes whilst they cooked every single thing to order for five customers who were waiting. The food itself is good but they must do something about the long delays.

Very glad to see a chip shop that is already renowned for usually being immaculately clean inside taking it to a new level with hand sanitiser on the counter and other measures in place. The food was also very nice with proper vinegar (not watered down beyond belief like elsewhere). If it hadn’t of been for the massive queue that had since formed I would of gone in and complemented it in person on this particular occasion.

Staff was very friendly. We arrived at 7.10pm when shop was shutting at 7.30pm we was welcomed in a friendly manor .fish and chips OK at a reasonable price.

Fancied something simple after a long distance walk and found it here. Nice to rough it sometimes and eat fish and chips from the paper in a nearby bus shelter.

Gosh, it’s spotless and a real credit to them. Added to which the food was really good. Really good! Nice clean, solid, tasty chips. Not burnt or too thin or too fat. And all the food was cooked while we waited.They do a Spam Fritter which I feel the need to try before we leave Helmsley. I think I also need to get some cleaning lessons from them. A ‘just perfect’ place. Go early. The queue was growing by the time we left.

Fab little chippy and nicer than the more commercial one near the market place. Made to order but don't take long and the lady and man behind the counter are always chatty but not annoying if that makes sense! We walk down and eat them in the market place on the seats and they are always tasty and piping hot served in a tray that closes so they are easy to eat.

In its own league of excellence, never been before but will certainly be returning throughout the summer.

Visited this fish and chip shop today on our bike tours, absolutely awesome, will be back.

Recently I’ve decided to visit as many tourist locations as I can this year, its been off to a great start with a recent endeavour to this chippy, although we are only a few months in, it is gonna be hard to find another takeaway of such high standard in every aspect. The food was prepared and cooked just a few metres from us, and the staff were keen to talk whilst we waited.

High quality and cooked to order in front of my very eyes. Very good quality, and yes before you ask i will be returning.

Superb quality fish and chips bursting with flavour, staff were very kind, ideal location with places to park the car. I enjoyed them greatly and the only dissapointment is how far away I live from this traditional chip shop.

Absolutely no taste in fish at all, batter was thick and over cooked, chips were nasty and it was all cooked in Beef Dripping disgusting. What a waste of money so disappointed.

Fish was good when it eventually arrived, staff seemed completely unable to cope. Don't let them organise festivities at the brewery!
