Dawn’s Plaice in Aberdeen City

After nearly 20 years as a customer, originally as Mike's chip shop, more recently as Dawns, I have never had a single complaint. However, tonight's 28/04/2025, offering has left me with no option but to question what constitutes a "Jumbo" Haddock. Jumbo price maybe, but the half " Fish finger" padded out with chips I was delivered under the guise of a jumbo Haddock supper has left me sorely disappointed with this establishment. I am generally not someone to complain, but this has seriously disappointed me. As an establishment, you have just lost an extremely regular customer. Sadly, I fear we both lose in this respect. Feel free to contact me to attempt to justify your astonishingly poor offering tonight. I wait with (un)baited breath.

Best chipper we have had for years,everything was piping hot and delicious thank you. Just had another chipper supper, again the best chipper.

jumbo hotdog not so jumbo it was thin tinned hotdog in a big bun that dwarfed the meat also no sauce or onions . wonder what the regular size hotdog is like hmm

Great couldn’t fault anything will be back with another order. Even ordered to have it delivered for 2030 which it was.

Really good food, delivered piping hot

Food did not arrive in the time. I had to leave my house at 8.45. placed order just after 7pm said it would be between 40 and 55 mins. app stated it was delivered around 10 past 8. called restaurant at half past to see what the situation was and the driver was on his way , I said if he wasn’t there in 5 mins not to bother and I want a refund. Usually good from here so pretty disappointed.

Was stood in store for approx 20 mins in high size clothing. They served the person infront of me and ignored me. Apparently they didn't see me so I left and took my business elsewhere. It's a shame as was in once before when I first moved to the street and the food was good I'd never return after being ignored for the online orders coming in.

Disgusted to find the cup my slush was in was thick with dirt/dust all over the inside of lid

Once again the steak pie was not very nice I think it was probably heated up from the day before the pastry across the pie was absolutely solid even some of the steak was hard such a shame as the rest of the order was nice

chips were cold pie's looked like they had been reheated even dog struggled to eat cust of pie

That’s the 3rd time I’ve had a really hard and well fired steak pie even some of the steak was hard I’ve used the chipper for years and would like to continue using it please don’t burn the pies chipper

Fish, mock chop and sausage were great. Chips let the meal down, unfortunately - very dry and hard.

never even arrived !!!!! waited an hour and half for food that then said it was “delivered” and we never got it !! shambles…

Always great chips and amazing macaroni pies with mushy peas and gravy. The fish is always outstanding. The staff and very friendly and helpful. The chipper is well worth visit.

I had set it to arrive at 8pm and they delivered it at 7pm. I work from home and was in a meeting.

An Excellent Takeaway business. The food is of great taste, full of flavour, but unfortunately the chips were merely warm on this occasion. I guess nobody can get every order to perfection! But I love this chippie so much, because they truly know how to create great food.

Nice personnel, rather clean inside, but the food- well, maybe I am not from Scotland or anywhere from UK, and just on vacation here, but literally the worst potato i have ever eaten in my life- dry and tastless. Fish was ok, with no specific.

took over 2 hours for order to arrive, only got half the order. The smallest jumbo haddock ever arrived (dont even think it was a cousin of a haddock), was like rubber in a burnt tasting batter. wouldn't recommend ordering from here, definitely not value for money.

Food was great however from the initially stated time of delivery it was about 45 miss late.

As always superb. Once again cannot fault it, had from Dawn's 5 times now and will keep on returning. Not a bad word to say about it, food excellent, quality is top notch, service is superb and delivery was early, what more can you ask for. 5 Stars without a doubt.

A really delicious tasting meal, it was hot and well worth the money. This restaurant is our favourite, and we have ordered from them on many occasions. I just wish the restaurant could communicate more if the order is running late, we know it happens and we are always happy to wait for a perfect dinner. The app says we hope you enjoy the food, when the food hasn’t arrived, so it is very confusing when the meal hasn’t arrived! Which then means I have to request an update on my order!

Delivered very fast. Fish supper was superb, highly recommended.

Had a standard fish supper on a Saturday evening. It was busy and took a short while. The fish was really good, but the chips were all pretty soft. Portion size was generous for it’s price (10 £).

Food was fab, sadly the gravy was like jelly so couldn’t use it and the mushy peas weren’t very mushy just peas I’d say

1 and a half hours from time of ordering to delivery seems a little excessive for a fast food takeaway. Food was good though.

At last I’ve found a takeaway who knows how to deliver quality, tasty food, and NOT burnt/dry food. I’m only concerned now that I may not be allowed to order from Dawn’s Plaice again, because the driver informed me that the drive is so far away between me and the takeaway and it took him so long via the journey. It would be ashamed if I couldn’t order from Dawn’s again.

Food is quite hit and miss, never outright disgusting but often dry or overcooked. It's a small chippy in a run down area so you get what you expect really. Most concerning thing is probably who I presume to be the manager constantly berating and being harsh to the teenage workers who are always nothing but polite and helpful - every time i go in there it's the same and I just feel bad for the poor kids honestly.

For a chip shop it has a large and varied menu and it's cooked to order so you k ow it's fresh

On previous visits fish suppers have been good. However went in Thursday evening and food was poor. Fish was dry and not fresh, almost like it had been refried and therefore now overcooked. Mine was awful and my partners not much better. All display cabinets above fryers are visually blocked off, so you have no idea what is being done their side. You are only as good as your last meal so won't be returning.

I think Dawns Plaice consistently has the best fish supper not just in Aberdeen, but the NE. Fish always fresh (to be expected in NE) batter is light and crispy, chips cooked well (with decent portion size). Price is about average, therefore given quality, great value for money. I go to many other chippers (including the ones that win prizes) but I often find these are just on par or even inferior to Dawns Plaice. Keep up the good work and please don't change anything.

Food never arrive terrible service!!

Food was excellent, we have purchased a few times from the chipper and the delivery was on time. But this time it was slightly late, but it is a great chipper.

Having ordered my takeaway it took 2hours to get delivered this is shocking .doNot accept orders if you can’t fulfill your delivery times .zero help from shop when I contacted them food was lukewarm when it arrived

wrong order was provided but shop did phone & offer to exchange if I went back but I refused. batter on the fish was very hard & wasn't to the usual high standard from here.

Fish supper missing chips. Order late asked for update to receive message it was delivered. Which meant I then needed to call to be to told it’s on its way.

used to be excellent but lately every time we order it's late up to 90mins late at time and has been arriving cold not good enough.

Food is ok but always forget something forgot a kids fish & chips on last order then forgot 3x juices on this one.

Quality is spot on used Dawn's a few times now and have no complaints at all. Always cooked to perfection and always hot when it arrives and we'll priced also. Definitely recommend that's for sure.

Was craving a chipper as not had one in a long while as everytime I ordered from chip shops always arrived cold or soggy or hard chips extra so was debating whether to order or not and honestly glad I did best chipper I had in a while all fresh fish was so good portion size was really good (as some chippers you get about a handful of chips and the curry sauce was amazing definitely found a new chipper and will be ordering again thanks so much was enjoyed from us all

Ordered 2 white puddings small chips what did I get sausages 2 large chips as someone be on the sherry early.

Visited on the recommendation of a friend, ordered fish supper,single fish and single red pudding. I was 1 of only 2 customers at the time so I assume they were cooking to order. £19.20 and worth every single penny absolutely beautiful. Cannot praise them enough 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 UPDATE 13/10/23 Ordered a red pudding supper and black pudding supper Chips were rather soft and mushy and quite inedible due to being smothered in a massive amount of salt, black pudding was very wet in consistency, it seemed to be well cooked? but was very off-putting indeed. Not a patch on our first visit

My husband purchased 2 fish suppers on 23/7/23. They were awful. Fish hard and appeared to have been deep fried twice. Neither of us could eat this however the seagulls appeard to tolerate it. Chips were OK. Won't purchase food from there again

Batter on the fish is gorgeous, fish perfectly cooked and chips just like you'd expect from a quality chipper. Best chipper in Scotland. You should raise your prices so you can stay in business.

Dawn has always been above the rest, looking for a treat on a Friday night to put the week behind you then this will defo get you in the mood, the foods perfect, nuff said.

Was great getting it early was hu gryphon and we enjoyed it

The delivery was very late. Notified at 18.10 that the food was on its way - delivery time of 18.35 - 18.55. Waited until 19.00, no food. Just Eat status was updated for 19.15, food arrived around 19.20. There was food missing and one item, chicken in a bun, was very overcooked and like a piece of rubber. Very disappointed given delivery charge was £3 and the delivery was shocking, and the food quality was poor.

Food was amazing and hot on delivery. Will 100 percent be coming back!
