Everything was great about this except for the food. And it was very expensive. I don't mind paying if it's worth it, but this definitely wasn't.

Great freshly cooked food in a lovely warm comfortable atmosphere ideal for date nights. Bar had everything you could want too. Lovely way to spend the evening with someone special

Service was excellent. One meal was about average for a UK based Italian Restaurant. The other was poor and well below what you should expect at this price point. If you are used to eating Italian food in Italy or in a decent UK city centre restaurant, you risk being disappointed here.

Excellent host, Charlotte, made us feel very welcome each time we visited. 3 in all, over consecutive days. I would describe the menu as enticing. At first read I took 5 minutes to decide on what to eat. First night, I went for the seafood risotto. It was absolutely beautiful. My wife chose the wild boar pasta. I was offered a taste and chose it the second night. We are a back in Retford next September and will definitely be returning to Dante's. A visit is highly recommended.

Lovely food and presentation. Fantastic service but I fear a little overpriced. Quite expensive. I had the spinach and cheese ravioli. Lovely but portions relatively small for £19. The other picture is bruschetta at £10 again lovely but overpriced for the portion. Obviously extremely well presented and fabulous taste.

The food was amazing as usual, absolutely gorgeous. The cocktails were the best! I particularly enjoyed their White Russian. The service was great. My one complaint and I heard others making the same one, is turn the music down! It's a restaurant not a disco. Some people still want to talk to each other... particularly friends catching up or couples looking for a romantic dinner/tea. I've spoken to various people and all agree, Dantes is fabulous but the music is always too loud! Please fix this and we can all leave 5 star reviews.

£71-50 for a 2 y,o childs spag bol,1 lasagne, and 1 tagliatelle and one pint of lager, a J20 and a bottle of water.. The lasagne was absolutely awful. Tagliatelle, my son. said, was like cardboard. And child refused to eat the S.Bol.[her favourite meal] after one mouthful plus it was the same sauce as the lasagna. I lived in Italy for years and learned how to make these dishes. Definitely NOT 'like mama used to make' as was stated in the menu. Total rubbish and a waste of 70 quid. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere..Edit..I had 2 mouth fulls of the lasagna and couldn't eat anymore, it was that bad..

Lovely food & excellent service. Expensive but couldn't fault what we ate. Four stars due to automatic service charge being added. We feel tipping should be optional.

We have heard from friends great things about Dantes and it was good indeed. It started off extremely well but did go a little flat at the end. Firstly the food, it was very tasty. Mussels were excellent, garlic bread was good, lasagna a very rich ragu. The service was freindly and very attenttive at the start and during our food but once finished with our mains we seemed to be forgotten about. It took some time to get their attention to ask for the bill and then again nothing, nobody came to take the payment so we had to go up to the desk. Its only a minor point but given tips are automatically taken I don't expect to be having to wait to pay.

Absolutely perfect. The staff were incredible the food was amazing the night was amazing. We went for a birthday meal and have been many times before and has always been lovely but this time really showed how amazing the staff are. I left a note on the booking that it was for a birthday and the delivered the best service and exactly what I asked for. Sofia and Gemma were absolutely fantastic they went out their way to make the night just that bit special for us. Such a good team for the night. It was a hot night so hats off to the girls and the staff in the kitchen for pulling it off all night and the food was absolutely delicious. All the praises go to the staff for the amazing service and amazing food and will be back again soon for sure. The best meal we have ever gone out for !

The best meal out I have had in a long time. The service and atmosphere were great, the food was exceptional. I had the Gamberoni Sofia followed by the chicken and mushroom risotto. Highly recommend this place to anyone.

Dantes never disappoints. We go back again and again. The food is just gorgeous (that lobster ravioli !!!!) and the staff are friendly, welcoming and warm to their guests. Love the courtyard for drinks on a sunny day, we’ve never had a bad experience here

Tonight I’ve had the best service since I have been out since January 2024 , Charlotte and will they gave me the best service definitely recommend.

My partner and I ate here last night, as a treat after a busy week, not our first time here. We were pleasantly greeted by one of the waitresses and starter and drinks orders were swiftly taken, surprisingly empty for a Friday night. We then proceeded to wait 15mins for our wine to be brought over to the table, we then ordered our mains. Starters came out and were good... The mains came out shortly after, I had the pancetta/bellypork special with Mash, which was good but nothing special for the £27.50 spent. My partner ordered the haddock risotto, her usual favourite. It was quite undercooked and come of the rice actually hard. We weren't asked if our meal was okay until they cleared our plates with other half of the risotto being left. We told the waitress, but no more was done about it, no offer of discount or it to be re done. Very disappointing.

Food wasn't worth the prices that they charge. Staff were slow and incapable of getting drinks right, prices right, disturbing during meal several times, table service only to who they felt like it, and no atmosphere. Save your money!!!

Dante’s Italian/The Herbalist is our go to local in Retford. Always a great atmosphere, and the staff are fab. This particular occasion we had Gracie-May serve us our drinks, she was lovely and also the other young man (name not known) who served us, both very attentive. Also the young man tended to our Rottie, paws up from her.

Wouldn't return, paid £150 for four meals, I had the pork Chop on the bone that was just basically 90% fat, told the waiter an they just said "ok" it wasn't worth £35. My partners lasagne was like a microwave meal and so was my sons spag bol, the pizza was beautiful but still massively over priced. All in all a very posh restaurant that dosnt deliver what it should for the money

Paid over £35 for the 180z steak as a birthday treat, the steak tasted great! Well.. the parts that were edible. The steak arrived pre cut into 6 separate strips, i could unfortunately only eat 2 due to the amount of fat on the other 4! I spoke to the ‘ manager’ whom was extremely rude stating ‘ what do you expect with a t bone cut’? … i wasn’t happy paying the amount considering more than half of the steak was returned whom offered to remove ‘ a drink’ ‘£4’ of the bill? Will DEFINITELY not be returning! Not worth the money or the rudeness of the staff.

We visited on a Thursday night, really friendly welcoming staff,nice atmosphere. Good choice of drinks (more choices than on the menu). I had the Aurora pizza which is shredded land with mint sauce finished with rocket, on a traditional base of tomatoe base/cheese. It was really thin and the outer crust was crispy. It was simply the best pizza I have ever had,absolutely delicious. We where only passing through on our was from Sunderland to Norwich , if we where local we would be visiting Dante,s regularly.

Easily the best place in the area ❤️ We have visited for a dinner as a big group and nobody left disappointed (and most of us are quite fussy). Service was excellent, food was amazing, the whole restaurant is just super cute and classy at the same time. Felt like home. Will be back!

I can honestly say, I've been to Dantes a few times, but last weekends meal was one of the best meals I've ever had. Myself and my wife shared the Anti-pasti platter as a starter, and then both had the Beef Wellington. It's absolutely amazing. Would give more than 5 stars if I could. Can't wat to go again.

Eaten here a few times now, and the food and service are great. I think they may have recently introduced Sunday Lunch menu, including beef cooked pink. It was delicious.

My little boy highly recommended the chocolate gelato which is very creamy and smooth. The services were also superb👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻, staff are friendly and helpful.

Visited on Saturday. Great food and service. Went again the following Saturday, just as good.

We had the mussels to start, delicious but very small. We both had fillet steak, beautifully cooked and well presented. The waiting staff were young but attentive and polite, clearly well trained. The only niggle was the music was too loud and I couldn't hear my companion at all and the tables were too close together. Given we were on a first date this made having an intimate meal, of which Italians will understand, very difficult.

A lovely setting with very good service. The food tasted good and was presented well but the prices were just too high for the amount we got. We both left feeling hungry with a bill above £60 for two mains with a drink each. I doubt we'll be returning again sorry.

We have been before and such lovely food, this time (20/10)we went for a birthday meal. The food was incredible Thankyou to Wes and his team in the kitchen and the experience was amazing Thankyou to Chloe who got back to me within 24 hours of emailing requesting extras for the birthday and the amazing staff on shift that night. Especially the one incharge of the night (sorry I forgot her name) however everyone went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect and couldn’t thank you all enough for a perfect night.

Food and staff excellent, only visited at lunchtime when atmosphere is spoilt by lack of customers. The venue deserves better.

I always feel valued at this restaurant, the staff are welcoming and efficient and the food is second to none. I am gradually working through their menu which is expansive so its going to take a while. The place to go for excellent food wine and service.

I didn't eat there, so I cannot comment. Service, attention, and drinks are all very good. Staff couteous and informative. Good choice on menu drinks. Drinks were top end on pricing, but the surroundings and ambience were perfect. The food menu looks interesting, not overpriced on a viewing only. Lots of variety. Large menu.........can such be delivered well?......I intend to try and see! Worth a visit.

Dantes has fantastic food, the moules starter is in a tomato sauce with a hint of chilli which makes this exceptional. The pappardelle all’Oca has an amazing flavour withe the citrus zest, truly stunning But..... The whole experience was spolit by the booking of a 40th birthday group of loud males who had no consideration for any other diners. Behavoiur more suited to the football terraces .With the cooking of Sophie the eating experience should be also exceptional. IMHO this is just a diner attached to a pub trying to be something it cannot when the pub culture takes over. Sophie should move on from here as she will create a great following.

One of the best Italian restaurants I’ve been too. The Lasagne was superb! We were there for a family get together and although it was a quiet afternoon there were plenty of staff to serve us. Quite expensive but definitely worth it.

We arrived to be greeted and seated in a warm, friendly and helpful manner. We were given the table of our choice and food, wine and service was superb.

Once we’d worked out how to get in, which is through the pub we we’re greeted by friendly and extremely polite staff who took us through to the restaurant, which was light and airy, very clean, including the toilets. 100% for customer service, the staff were excellent. Ordered starters and a main, the portions are generous and very well presented, all tasted amazing. Pasta and pizza priced around the £15 mark, about the average! Superb selection and food for all tastes and budgets. It was a Thursday evening and wasn’t too busy, recommend booking for a weekend and we’ll worth a visit if in the area. Thank you to all at Dante’s Retford.

Probably the best restaurant I've been to ever. I have been around 8 times now. Always great food, great hospitality, great atmosphere. The food and drinks are expensive, however, that's what you get at a really nice restaurant and it's worth every penny!! I have never left disappointed. Thanks Dantes and Ziniz!

Struggling to find somewhere other than a pub to eat whilst on business in Retford, I found this. A very stylish restaurant with very efficient service. The food was tasty but very overpriced.

I had steak as my main. Cooked and seasoned to perfection. I've been to well known steakhouses that can't get it right at twice the price. Great cut, great cooking, great taste. Also the dolcelatte sauce was perfect. I'm a lover of dolcelatte cheese. Or in itallian 👉🏼😊Buono 👩‍🍳Brava

Oh dear, possibly the worst dining experience for 10 years. It took us a few years to forget when they added an extra bottle of wine on the bill a few years ago, but enjoyed the food then, so let it go. £10 for a large glass of wine was a bit of a shock, but I rarely complain about the price, if the quality is good…it didn’t get better from here. My garlic mushroom with bruschetta was tasty although the bread was quite stale and undercooked. My wife’s bruschetta was over laced with red onion relish… and the goats cheese was untoasted. When asked how the food was, we simply said, it was Ok, and a bit underwhelming. The main courses continued to disappoint the pizza was dry and hard to swallow, it was as if the pizza base had been made the day before. My wife’s risotto was frankly tasteless and over laced with lemon. I watched for 5 minutes, whilst the waiter (whilst holding a pen in the same hand) dropped something on the pizza, then removed it. When it arrived, I asked what he’d been doing and he said he’d added pea shoots but the chef wanted them removed, because the pizza was meant to have rocket. I was told by the waiter that their rocket a was better than Morrison’s, but how would I know? When asked how the food was, we simply said we weren’t so happy and asked for the bill. When the bill arrived, we asked if the bill had been adjusted for the lack of rocket, and we were told in no uncertain terms that it was only a garnish and she wouldn’t adjust the bill. I was then told that we’d been rude to the staff, and she wouldn’t be discussing it further with us. We paid the bill in full and asked the manager what her name was. Samantha! I told Samantha that she might need to look for another job, as I didn’t think the restaurant would last another year. I don’t blame Samantha for this, I suspect she’s only doing her job, and management and the owners don’t allow her and her staff, to deliver good service and her kitchen to deliver good food.

Food, service and atmosphere - absolutely faultless. Went to celebrate our wedding anniversary and enjoyed every aspect of this restaurant. The food was 100%. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Beware of the 10% service charge they slap on your bill

Wow best calzone by miles, never would you believe the Size of this meal and it tasted amazing. Wife had the goats cheese pizza,which she said was soooo fresh,full of flavour with the lightest homemade dough base.

Was there last night 30th June for my birthday. The service was excellent. The food was lovely. I would highly recommend to friends. I had a great evening.

Took a pit stop here with the girls, delicious plates of food kept going past us so we had to indulge and I’m so glad we did. Absolutely delicious.

Staff were polite and friendly. Service was reasonably quick. The atmosphere was pretty good (we were seated in the adjacent pub section). Portion sizes varied quite a bit with some very small for large adults. "Kids ice-cream sundae" was just a couple of small scoops of ice-cream in a small glass with a wafer. Food came mostly together but one kids dish took a lot longer so we had to eat at different times or have cold food. Overall seems a bit underwhelming for the price though I'd probably consider giving it a second chance and try something different.

I have eaten at Dante's on more than one occasion; and often pop in for a drink; and I have always found everyone to be very welcoming, friendly and professional. The management go to great lengths to ensure that every guest enjoys their visit; be it for a meal, special occasion, overnight stay or just drinks. As someone who is also of Caribbean descent; I find the review by Ray G quite offensive because I have never had such a problem and don't for a nanosecond believe that any of the team would behave in such a way. I would suggest that the other tables were already allocated to other bookings as they do get incredibly busy at peak times. Dante's is most definitely worth a visit and I will continue to do so.

I travel from London with my daughter to celebrate our new house we brought in Shireoaks, Worksop. We decided to pre book Dante Italian in RETFORD at 7pm on Saturday 22nd April 2023 the reviews was excellent. However the minute we walked into the restaurant it was clear they don't have many Africa/Caribbean customers as the Manager escorted us to a table furthest away in the corner from everyone else. THERE WAS ONLY 4 TABLES BEING USED AT THE TIME. (There was approximately 20+ tables were available in the restaurant. As I was with my daughter, I didn't want to cause a scene. I will be contacting the owner to discuss my experience & explain that we are in the 21st century & slave days are thing of past and this behaviour isn't acceptable to treat people of Africa/Caribbean in this way. I will NEVER return to your restaurant ever again.

Visited Dante’s on Saturday 15th April. We had made a reservation for our party of 8. Since we were a bit larger group than usual, we had been asked to provide a food pre-order, which we had. On arrival our food was served promptly and professionally. Everyone in our party commented that the food was very good and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The servers were polite, friendly & helpful throughout. We have been to Dante’s previously and this latest visit was at least as good, if not even better, than our previous visits. We shall definitely be back again soon.

Garlic bread with no garlic taste, £10 for about 12 olives, Meat was mushy, 11 pasta dishes on 1 table and we had to ask for parmesan and then ask that they give us a pot of it not just grate a small amount on each plate as we watch our food go cold. drinks too expensive, food way too expensive. Got charged £30 service charge even though we pre ordered our meal a week before, didn't even ask if we wanted starters. Just emptied out wallets for the drinks order and then took the clothes from our back when the bill arrived. An Italian bmt from subway has more Italian in it than this place. I highly recommend you avoid this place unless you don't like food or money.. shame as we all had high hopes.

Limited glutenfree menu no glutenfree pasta! What we did have was very nice,we didn't book and they fit us in on Saturday night,good atmosphere,good service.

Pleasant main course, nice atmosphere, staff friendly enough but dessert (profiteroles) were uneventful, a bit chewy and overpriced. Overall it was ok but not flavourful enough to warrant the cost, won’t rush back. Also, read the small print re the service charge but who wants to read small print when on a night out, I am not buying insurance. They did offer to return the service charge when we commented on it which was good but we declined. We would have just liked to have had it pointed out to us when the bill came to be sure we were happy to pay it. We had not noticed it on the menu as I am sure many don’t because as I say who wants to check for small print on a night out.

Food very nice. Staff very helpful. Cazone was a whale and the Seafood risotto was excellent. Menu a bit pricey so you'll need deep pockets.

I visited the restaurant on Saturday 11th February 2023 with my wife. Lovely setting/service.and really helpful staff. I ordered Mussels in a white sauce for my starter which was excellent, for my main course I was very disappointed, ordered the Tagliata Alla Fiorentina medium/well done steak but more than half of the Steak was very tough which i could not cut or chew without difficulty and I left it. I immediately reported this to our waitress, she informed the Chef who sent his apologies and offered me a complementary drink. As my wife's meal was excellent with no issues as was my starter We still enjoyed the evening. We will have no hesitation in returning to the restaurant. GMA

Visited this evening with my daughter and friend. What a find!! Definitely worth a visit if in Retford. The restaurant was spotlessly clean, the vibes were great, and the decor was fab. We all had pasta dishes which were presented like any top class establishment, served piping hot just how I like my food to be, tasted delicious too. We were service by Nick, he was full of fun, very polite and knowledgeable on the varied dishes. I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant to anyone and will definitely be making another trip back.

Very noisy - need more sound cancelling materials especiallywhen it's full as it was whenwe visited. Service was excellent, food ok - nothing exceptional. Felt it was expensive for what you got.

We booked a table for my Dad’s 78th birthday, as a bit of a treat and somewhere they wouldn’t normally go. Dante’s is a really lovely setting and we were looked after by all the staff. The food was all very lovely, very tasty and Dad enjoyed his lamb risotto (which I think was probably his first!) Our only issue that marred the evening slightly and made us leave earlier than we might have done (I think mum was hoping for a dessert!) was that it was just so loud! Dad’s hard of hearing anyway but even I could barely hear what they were saying across the table. It wasn’t that anyone else was being particularly loud, it’s just that it’s a small room with low ceilings, hard surfaces and furnishings, nothing soft to dampen the sound, so when the restaurant filled up, the noise became too much and we decided to leave. It was a shame really because the food was really lovely. With hindsight perhaps we should have booked into The Herbalist next door, or we’ll wait for summer and eat outside.

Amazing food and amazing atmosphere.

We held a work event for 29 people at Dante's this week and I cannot recommend them more highly. The team could not have been more helpful with the planning, helping with seating plans and pre-orders. The evening was faultless, beautiful setting, attentive staff and all our delicious food arrived promptly and piping hot. Thank you Dante's for helping our event run so smoothly, we would not hesitate to visit you again.

My daughter celebrated her 14th birthday here with 11 of her friends. They were seated within The Herbalist. They had a thoroughly enjoyable evening, the staff were extremely accommodating and helpful - even helped me with setting the table with lights! The food was excellent! They couldn't do enough for us - would highly recommend and will definitely be back! Thank you!

As per their website, the restaurant closes 2 hours before the bar. Actually, at 8:45pm they already said "we're closed" on Sunday evening. Looks decent though.

We ate at Dante's for the first time last night. We found the staff to be very welcoming and attentive, but they did not hover over us, which was good. When ordering the wine we asked for a recommendation, which was perfect for our taste. The three of us wanted a little nibble to start so ordered the Antipasto Misto. It was presented well and had a nice selection of meats and olives. Our only criticism here is that we thought it should have had a little more bread with it (there were three small slices and three crisp thins). For the main event my son had a pizza, it didn't touch the sides! My husband had a carbonara and it was on par with the last one he had, in Rome (the real deal!) I had the lobster pasta parcels, which were absolutely delicious! To finish, my son had the cannoli, which he enjoyed, and we had a limoncello. Overall, we had a really good experience and will definitely be going back for a special occasion meal.

Was presented with a mojito made with lemons and told it was "their type of limes" Sent back the red onion and goats cheese bruschetta as it was like eating jam but was told "that's how it's meant to be" Very disappointing and not cheap...

Visited for the first time over the weekend (were seated in the Herbalist) I ordered Lasagne and was very disappointed. Very bland and the sheets of pasta had been shredded like it was about to be served to a toddler ... No garnish or a piece of garlic bread to accompany it either. £16 for a very inadequate 'meal'.

The staff make this a great venue, the setting is great and it’s a nice place to go. The food seems to have got more expensive, so this is definitely not somewhere you’d pop for a mid week bite to eat, however for a treat...
