An accidental find when we’d missed lunch opening hours elsewhere. Needed something Coeliac-friendly, and DD did so much more! Could be in Prague, Krakow, or ….well, anywhere bookish and bohemian, DD is quirky but not kitsch. Coffee is good, mezze is great, and cake quality is very very good…and almost everything is gluten-fee (I could share a mezze platter with my gluten-loving g wife. All the cakes except one were gf). Slightly hidden away off the end of the High St, prices are decent, and its a peaceful space you could step into briefly or waste an afternoon in. Really liked the staff too! Perfect excuse for a wee trip from Edinburgh.

A rainy day and quick motorhome stopover heading south. Popped in for lunch and we were not disappointed, healthy tasty food with a Middle Eastern twist mostly vegetarian. Big pot of tea. Quirky little cafe/second hand bookshop and rugs. Dog friendly. Only gave 4 stars as there was no atmosphere, roasted veggies and Brie bagel was served cold, just the bagel toasted. Pakoras were tasty.

Popped in for a light lunch and a coffee whilst in Hawick. Delightful, wee cafe, with friendly staff, quick service, and a quirky atmosphere, as you eat surrounded by the secondhand books the cafe also sells. I had a brie and grilled peppers bagel, which comes with a good helping of fresh salad, and an americano coffee, which came to £9.60, which seemed reasonable for what was on offer. I will, most likely, be back.

Welcoming, independent and unique cafe, up a hidden backwater, serving a selection of Middle Eastern style foods/meze and filled bagels, soups, etc with a great range of fresh homemade baking. We shared a colourful meze platter with a creamy baba ganoush, hummus, roasted peppers, feta and Kalamata olives, roasted tomatoes, pastrami, dolmades and freshly toasted pittas. Full of books you are encouraged to browse while eating or drinking. Beautiful kilims also for sale. The most quirky and intriguing place to eat in Hawick. The Turkish coffee is divine!

I had read reviews on the Drum which sounded very encouraging and we were not disappointed at all. As a person in a wheelchair it's a little difficult to get in but once inside it was very pleasant. The staff were very polite and welcoming and the menu was just what we wanted and we settled for toasties and coffee which were both very good indeed. So on our next trip to the Borders we would certainly return to the Drum. Dave

My chilli came with bread, cheese and salad on the side, it was a huge bowlful of tasty(but not too hot-spice wise) chilli, packed with veg and beans. I could not in fact finish the bowl and took the remaining old home with me. The burger was declared very good too. We left stuffed full, but with two pieces of cake(a slice of Chocolate and Stout, and a Pistachio one too) for when we did feel able to eat again!Service as usual was great.

It is fair to say that not many people would mistake Hawick for a Mediterranean town. Step inside the Damascus Drum, however, and you enter a different world. The menu is really interesting, based around Middle Eastern or Mediterranean dishes, which are varied and generous in size. These are light lunches, but for coffee and tea the place would be a great find too. The atmosphere is quite unique, as it is described as a bookshop, but it's hard to see how you could browse to buy while people are sitting up against the stacks of books - I like to think of it as a converted library. Maybe at less busy times the shop bit works well. For the purposes of this review I'm just concentrating on the food, which was delicious and a real culture shock given the location.

Damascus Drum is the only place my brother(who has a local business) will recommend to people looking for a cuppa, or quick bite to eat. The interior is quirky, and intimate and always seems to have a nice atmosphere, whether it's rammed with customers or not. Definitely worth seeking out this hidden gem* I go whenever I am visiting the Borders.*The coffee shop is relatively hard to find as it's not on the main stretch of the High St. Don't be put off by this, ask a local if necessary, you will not regret it!

Today's soup choices were delicious. Chinese chicken and Lebanese chick pea, served with tasty brown bread and butter. Good portions lovely chunky homemade soup. Relaxed comfortable surroundings. A super café tucked away but certainly worth discovering. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

Firstly i would have given it the usual five star rating but on this occasion its four stars simply because the soup i ordered was forgotten about and when i asked i could clearly see she had forgot, then 1 minute after it came my hot main meal came and it sat getting cold. Both the soup and the main were delicious though.

Visit every time we visit Hawick and we are never, ever disappointed. Food is always tasty, fresh and brilliant value. Could easily have had more lattes, some of the best I've ever had Please visit this little gem.

Popped in with some colleagues for a light lunch and was really happy with results. Staff are welcoming, interesting and varied menu - the pastrami bagel was excellent - and a really nice atmosphere. It was obvious locals just popped in to chill out for a bit too. Inexpensive for the good quality.Good location in the centre of town too.

Initially a little disappointed when we walked down the Main Street here (sorry, Hawick devotees) looking for a lunch stop. Then we found this quirky cafe cum bookstore and all was sunshine! There's an interesting menu with lots of tasty sounding bagels. We had:Spicy sweet potato soup with bread and a feta and roasted tomato bagel with a generous portion of very fresh salad. All was delicious. Service was friendly and efficient. There's lots to look at and extracts from their 'writer in residence' works on each table.Definitely worth looking out for their sign board.

Didn't eat here. Just had a quick rest and a conforting cuppa tea. But the owner was super friendly and I think kindness deserves an award nowadays, so, On this notice a very positive review from me.

My partner and I were visiting Hawick for a little break and my parents came to surprise me. The 4 of us enjoyed all our mains, we had all together, the haddock and chips, lasagne, steak and ale pie. Portion sizes were great, everything was fresh and tasted great. I had haggis bon bons to start along with my dad and we both thought the haggis was bland and the mystery sauce in which they are served on top of was very unexpected and I’d definitely swap that out with a sweet chilli chutney or something. I’d have a different starter next time but that aside I very much enjoyed the rest of the food and so did everyone else. Service was fantastic, the restaurant itself is very homely, rustic/country esq. I felt very comfortable and it was a great dining experience. Sticky toffee pudding was great too.

The staff, the atmosphere and the food were all lovely. The pumpkin gnocchi were one of the best things I've ever eaten. Their focaccia was amazing too.

Popped in while visiting Hawick. Ordered over the phone for collection, lady on the phone took every detail regarding sauces, salt etc and made sure it was adhered to when packing it once I arrived. Food was good, pepperoni didn’t seem the same kind I’d get at my local but didn’t stop me eating it.
