Cummin Up in Lewisham

I ordered a red pea soup and a fish fritter the lady told me that the 10 pound I have wasn't going to cover an extra quarter jerk chicken so I gave her my 10 pounds and she gave me back 1.50 even though my food only came to 7 pounds and she had charged me 8.50 for some reason and then when I asked her she Said she also charged me for the jerk chicken that she told me I didn't have enough for so she didn't give to me.. which I found very confusing but anyway I then tried my fish fritter which had no fish in it at all... was extremely oily to the point that that she had to wrap it in afew paper bags and when I questioned her why I only got 1.50 back as my food came to 7 she told me that she charged me for the jerk chicken too so she asked me if I wanted it and I said yes but you said I can't afford it.... I was soo confused but anyway I said I still wanted it so she gave me one that was just laying randomly on the chopping board already which was sooooo burnt I clsnt believe what she was giving me but I by that time felt so uncomfortable with the situation that I just wanted to leave so I took this very burnt chicken which nobody wld really want to eat, my colleagues laughed at how cremated it was and I just left it although I am upset at the waste of money and the bad experience. I wld never in my life go to this shop again.. I'd rather stay hungry... really disappointed.

After booking and arriving on time, they were closed. Not just once. They did not contact us, no apologies. There seem some common sense issues with them.

I had a wonderful meal at Cumming up on weekend the curried vegetarian option of chick peas cabbage etc was scrumptious. The plantains salad range etc soooo healthy. I had a piece of jerk chicken...yum yum yum. Highly recommend...Keep cooking up a storm G Nia

Overall, it was nice and affordable but sadly the Jerk fried rice was too salty! Other than that, you can get drinks for 30p!

I was feeling pickish and wanted to eat something to eat so I went to Cummingup in Lewisham center the food was rubbish and the chicken was day before and could hardly see the chicken in the rice .I would have rather give the money to a bigger than to buy food from them .

Food was horrible sure it was 2 days old. Chicken wings disgusting over cooked. Red peas soup flavourless, oxtail in soup was under cooked. The whole meal was terrible Nasty. Will never get take away from Coming up again.

These people are actually selling stale food, I’ ve never tasted rice and peas so bad in all my life, and what was that, that they call oxtail.....No flavour at all and slimy like wth! The veggie stew peas come like defecation water to rass. Never again I’m even scared to eat the rum cake I ordered, and jerk wings? More like burnt hairy drying wings. Waste of money Kmt should be some kind law in place for shops like this cahhh I want my money back Kmt literally everything in the dam bin!!!!

I just bought an oxtail and rice and peas. My god!!! It tasted like it was cooked 3 weeks ago and preserved in salt. I got a 'large' for which I was charged £9. The container was not even full but what little rice and peas that was there was dry as well but the 'meat'... I am not joking. DO NOT buy food from these people. If the Corona crisis was not on I would have reported them. Terrible!!

Health and hygiene absolutely vile. If you look at back of restaurant they just dump food and rubbish where ever they like and not caring about people who live there. There excuse was the bin was broken but still hasn’t bothered fixing or getting a new one and that was 4 weeks ago! They are rude and don’t have any human compassion or consideration. They constantly have mice and rats at the back where they dump there rubbish. They blocked my entrance with food waste and rubbish and I’m a young disabled girl! If you think that’s bad look in there so call kitchen on the side black door it will put you off for life.

This place should get closed down there is no way you should be selling food at this standards it’s horrible , the rice was burnt and stick together the curry goat was salty and was like a soup all mushy I can’t believe what your selling to People , and the customer service was rude as well I don’t think anybody should eat there ... if I had a dog I wouldn’t even feed that what your giving to people to eat 🤢🤢🤢🤢

My daughters engagement was approaching and cumming up was recommended to do the catering. We ordered curry goat, Ox tail, chicken, rice& peas & plain rice. To my disappointment we only received 2 trays of chicken & the rice, half the food we was expecting. This wasn't picked up until later as the day was full on busy, and a lot was happening around the same time, also the food was covered by foil and the driver who delivered the food, said he had no idea what was there as he was only a driver. Three hundred pounds was paid for the food & we ended up having food to the value of one hundred pounds (if that). When we complained the owner offered a refund of £80, again an insult to a customer, he wanted to charge £280 for 1tray of plain rice, 1 tray of rice & peas and 2 trays of stew chicken. He justified this by mentioning the time to prepare the food. This totally in my opinion disregards the customers experience and disappointment in a service. After much debate and justification he offered £100 refund, knowing very well that it was a mix up in his service and organisation. Also that what we received came no where near the price of £200. These excuses were given; The driver was not a regular and picked up the wrong trays, half my order went to another venue, and nobody checked what was going out ( which he said usually happens) I said it's not good enough when conducting a service, and recommended ensuring anyone working for his service should be properly briefed on what to do, also that there should be a system of knowing exactly what should be going to what address and labelled so there is no mix up. I would never use this service again and would never recommend them to anyone I was left feeling disappointed & totally let down in the service I received.

My husband and I ate there last week. We had curried Goat, jerk chicken both with rice and peas. It was the best we have ever had. We ate inside the takeaway. We will definately be going back

It is actually good. We stop by the chance for a quick meal on Sunday. Nice staff and tasty food. I suggest the Goat curry and the jerk chicken. Simply lovely.

Working in Burgess Hill food choices were limited so decided to drop into Brighton for something different, Used the Just Eat App to locate a Jamaican Restaurant / takeaway and found Cummin Up.

Contrariamente a la concepción, hay muchos tipos y estilos de cocina en el Caribe, y este lugar es representante de grapas clásico arroz y guisantes jamaicana, Jerk Chicken, comida dura empanadas, sopa de rabo de buey.

My best friend and I felt for some good home cooking, so we stopped in Cummin up. Brown stewed chicken Rice and Pease plantain and coleslaw. YAYS!!

My boyfriend and I order curried goat with spicy rice. It was amazing. Very friendly staff and great music. They jad many differeny drinks from the caribbean like Solo my favoirite drink im trinidad. Will defo order again!!

No llego a Catford y que a menudo no tengo que a menudo tampoco tome siempre, pero cuando lo hago, acabo de tener un trocito de perfección culinaria del caribe.

Pedí en festivo el lunes. Comprensiblemente estaban ocupados, sin embargo me dieron un plazo de entrega de 1 hora. La comida tardó más de dos horas en llegar y tuve que llamar 3 veces para comprobar dónde estaba. La comida llegó finalmente y faltaba el curry. Por lo tanto toda la comida estaba seca. Les llamé, el personal era muy cortés, pero sólo me ofrecen un curry gratis la próxima vez. Realmente decepcionado y hambre. No regresaré incluso para mi curry de cortesía.

ロンドンで安い宿を求めてCatfordまで来た。英国のSimを買うためにVodafoneに行って、ここはカリブ系の人たちが多いのかい？ときいたら、そうだと答える。じゃあ、きっとカリブ料理の美味い店があるんだよねというと、ここを教えてくれた。俺の名前をオーナーに言えばきっとサービスしてくれるよ、と。残念ながらオーナーは田舎ったら、Jurk Chikenは最高にうまかった。ロンドン中心部からはかなり遠いが機会があれば再度食べてみたい。

Food was really good and had a good time out with my family. Cocktails wer amazing and food was very nice. We had all you can eat £12.95 on a Sunday. Service was very good to. Changes from how it use to be alot!!! Well done cummin up

The prices are so reasonable considering a) the amount of food you get and b) how mind-blowing it is. My boyfriend and I both ordered the curry goat and the apple crumble. The curry was beautifully flavoured and the meat came clean off the bone. As for the crumble- let's just say we've both been dreaming about it since. Praying it either becomes a permanent addition to the menu or you guys sell me the recipe.

the foods good but the ladies that work there are the reason people keep going back so nice and friendly the fact they give out free food to the homeless on Christmas and new years is amazing you wouldn't get Waitrose or Tesco doing that.the punches and free from drinks are top shelf good for your mind and body.2 types of jerk as well. try it

We visited the Lewisham branch for dinner tonight and the food was absolutely delicious. The service was excellent. We were served by the owners daughter, Melissa, who was down to earth and friendly. The food portions were large and the prices are reasonable. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely return.

I got the Ackee and Saltfish with Rice and peas. It was amazing food, quick service and decent price! I wanted to go again but had to cut my trip short and come back up north, i was gutted!Its the kind of food that you think about all day :)

Went for a 23rd birthday loved it. The service was suprisingly very good. The food and cocktails was good. Took abit long for drinks but food came quickly after. Lovely place to chill out!

Food was ok but the women serving was quite rude. Also do not get a large potion unless u want to pay £2 for a little more rice!

Me and a friend regularly visit the Cummin Up branch next to New Cross train station. We drive up from Kent twice a week especially to eat here. We have tried many different places for West Indian food and this is our favorite. Food and service is always spot on.

I I couldn't believe how amazing the food was from Cummin Up in Lewisham. I actually felt as though I was in the Caribbean. All the flavours and textures were just perfect. I can't wait for the next visit. Get yourself there and eat in. Excellent customer services too.

Despite the numerous negative reviews about this restaurant, which stated, rude service, long delays and waiting time for service. I personally loved this little restaurant, pleasantly situated on Lewisham High Street, in South London. During my booking for a table, the lady who answered the telephone, was surprised I wanted to "book" a table, which surprised me. It seems as though, people usually just walked in off of the street and were just seated. But me, always preferring to follow the etiquette for restaurants, regardless of what type they are, booked a table for 6pm. Upon arrival we were greeted by the same lady who took the booking, and were told that we could choose any table as they were empty. Which suited me fine. The venue was majestic and colourful with soulful and relaxing music low in the back ground. Our waitress arrived promptly to take our drinks order and then our food order. Despite waiting, nearly twenty minuets for a glass of wine and mojito to arrive.I didn't find the service no where near as bad as stated in past reviews. They were courteous enough to keep coming over to apologies for the delay with the drinks. As they had no long opened for table bookings (5:30pm).And the surrounds were visually enjoyable. Our food arrived thirty minutes later and my curry goat and rice, with fried plantain was delicious. It had a lot more bone than meat, but what was there, was delicious. So that's a tick for curiosity and a tick on taste! The only downside, was the glitch with trying to make a card payment using their iPad, a blue number pad device and the wifi they had. The wifi didn't connect. Which delayed payment dramatically. Another member of the restaurant stated to our waitress that the wifi payment hasn't been working lately, which I felt would have been good to know before we sat down to order.In the end we had to walk to the nearest cash point to withdrawn money. Which in total delayed our prior engagement at a the Poetic Unity poetry event in Brixton by 30 minuets. I felt, that the restaurant allowing two complete strangers to walk out of their restaurant without paying or leaving any leverage for a return, was oddly entrusting.Overall, I would give this establishment, a reluctant 3.5 out of 5 star rating. Visited Cummin up On Saturday,and first impression was not good.The lady serving gave the impression that our custom was a bit of a nuisance. When asked for a certain item her retort was "you can't " meaning nor available. Once we got home with our food I have to say it was really tasty.What a shame the demeanor of the staff would maybe not worth the journey to get it.We only went to pick it up because delivery was very poor.My 4 stars is purely for the food and definitely not the service.

It was the worst take away experience in my life. We waited over two hours and half, then when the delivery man arrived he didn't even apologise. The food was luke warm, the chicken and the rice were really dry, it was not tasting nice at all, I ate some a little bit then I threw everything in the bin ! Maybe we've been really unlucky that day but I'll never try it again!

Absolutely deplorable service. First of all they rejected my order via Justeat, resulting in me making an order by telephone. I rang up two and a half hours later to enquire about its whereabouts and they state that it's 'on it's way'. Complete and utter shambles for what I've heard is a lovely takeaway.

More of a takeaway place than a sit-down restaurant, but within its terms absolutely fab. The jerk chicken is to-die-for. Definitely ask for gravy with the rice - it's super tasty. Plus the people who run this legendary establishment are wonderful. I left my laptop there and they kept it safely for me …. gems!

Best Carribean food around. Try the brown stewed chicken and rice and peas they're amazing. We get takeout from here regularly.

I can't say I am an expert on jeep chicken as this is the only place I have ever gotten it from but I like it and the patties are very good the rice is a little dry but tasty the service can be slow and the place good do with a really good clean and a bit of a paint job but all in all its well worth a visit the jerk chicken is very tasty I don't know how authentic it tastes but it is good

First time coming here and I was a little worried because of the reviews I read about this place. But it didnt stop me from going. The customer service was excellent and the food was superb. I was really pleased with my food im definitely coming back! I highly recommend this place

As a Jamaican I felt I'd been served fools food ... The so called goat was disgusting the rice& peas was like bullets.... Hard like rock... Come on you charged me £7.00 ...... I'd rather I was mugged.....

Let's cut to the chase, you won't be bringing your other half here for fine dining. The decor IS tired, from the outside you may not even think it's open...but none of this matters when you want some great Caribbean food.The patties are sooo tasty, I often order 2 and sometimes 3 (chicken is the best but saltfish and lamb are also delicious). O have ordered other food in the past and also enjoyed the flavours of the Jerk chicken rice n peas. The lady behind the counter always remembers me and is friendly to all customers.I can't give this place anything but 5 stars. My last visit was in July 2015, but I live in the north these days so only get to go when I visit London...but have taken many a detour to ensure I pass Cummin Up ony way.

Actually I went to the branch on Lewisham High St nearer to the Catford than Lewisham. The food was great, jerk chicken and peas and beans with a side of delicious plantain. We also ordered the calaloo and saltfish which was incredibly tasty but off the scale for saltiness, I should have had it as a starter rather than with the meal. On a separate occasion I've also had the Escoveitch fish dish which again was really good. Portions are large, prices are good, the home made ginger beer is terrific, really packs a punch. The range of unusual drinks both premixed and homemade is impressive and I'll be back for more of these. The interior feels a disjointed mess and is the only let down to an otherwise good experience, that said on my two visits everyone else seemed to order takeaways rather then my sit-down.

This place is located in Brighton not London. It also does deliveries within the Brighton area. As we were in Brighton for the first of this years visits decided to have a takeaway for the first night. Excellent choice. The menu was extensive. Ordered up our food was told it would be 40 minutes. Blow me down it was exactly 40 minutes never happened before.Portion wise it was more than enough for one and in comparsion to my local area very cheap. £5 for goat curry cannot be bad and tasty than other goat curries I have tasted. Authentic bones and all. My ex partner was Jamaican. In fact all the dishes were very good. Ordered for dessert Jamaican Spice bun & cheese no cheese but was delivered a whole spice bun. Was not expecting that all for the value of £1.50. What more can I say.My only disappoint was that there was no ackee & saltfish(my favourite dish) but as ackee is expensive was not very surprisedI would highly recommend this purely on takeaway basis as I have not yet visited the restaurant itself (will sometime) but I will use again for a takeaway (next visit June)If you like Caribbean food spicy but tasty try this place

This is one of the many West Indian hole-in-the-wall experiences dotted around London (why can't Caribbean food elevate itself??)and not one of the better ones for that matter. With a décor straight out of the third world, it was probably aiming for authenticity. And being West Indian myself, I suppose they got that right given the SLOW service and slight attitude when taking your order (the slightly bored expression whilst not looking you straight in the eye thing). Now goat is a bony meat but this was ALL bone! The meat:bone ratio was 1:3! The rice and peas was choke-and-die dry. Everything needed salt. Disappointing.

OK, maybe the other reviewers on here are bing put off by the poor delivery, but the food here is Amazing! Realistically I have only had the Jerk chicken and the goat curry, but the jerk chicken is insane, and their Cummin UP Jerk BBQ sauce that you can buy in a bottle is also amazing.The sauce with the jerk chicken does have some bones in, but they are there for the bone marrow (i.e TASTE), and who wouldn't want tasty food???Highly recommend. I might make the trip to New Cross from Camberwell.....mmmmmmmmmm

Had so many bones to the point of not being able to fully enjoy your food. Be very careful if feeding small children. The tables are often always greasy including the counter. The chicken particularly tasted some what stale. I have tasted else where in London to be a lot better

Cheap & yummy Caribbean food! Try the jerk chicken fried rice, just the right portion but be careful of the bones ! And try the dumplings too, really filling in winter

Waited two and a half hours for our food to arrive, from ordering to arrival on our doorstep. When it did arrive an hour late, it was not worth the wait, at all. In addition, some of the food was missing from our order and everything was luke warm. I had jerk chicken and rice, the rice had small bits of bone in it which I can only assume came from the chicken/jerk gravy so was highly unpleasant to eat. The chicken wasn't so fresh, seemed like it had been made in the morning and simply warmed up in a microwave ready for delivery. My partner ordered some fish patty thing that was totally in edible and went straight in the bin. They couldn't even get the plantain right! My mother ordered a quarter chicken breast but instead got chicken legs, which again mostly went in the bin again. The only good thing to be said is that the jerk gravy and curry sauce were relatively tasty (apart from the bits of bone I kept finding in each). In regards to the customer service, just full of excuses as to why our food was late. After being told it was on it's way the first time, it still took half an hour to appear, which would explain the cold food. A very unpleasant experience all round, I had such high hopes for this place, I don't understand why it always seems to have customers! Worst Caribbean I've ever had.
