Cafe Buenos Aires in Lewisham

We had a lovely dinner at this small and friendly restaurant. A great place for steaks, but also interesting starters and home-made desserts. Our waiter Louis was very friendly, attentive and helpful. We will definitely return.

Decent food and a great kids many beyond the usual nuggets and chips. Not very child friendly otherwise. Staff rolling eyes and everything feels like too much from push chair to additional plate requests

Here for a farewell Sunday lunch to our parents flying back to NZ, booked by my father in law. After a couple of bottles of not so cheap wine , starters and mains , we thought we’d get desserts , more wine and coffee , but oh NO!! Told we’d only got 10 minutes left until we had to vacate the table, after my father in law questioned this he was firmly told that he should of been told this at the time of booking.. well because of the abruptness we encountered and being told that if we wanted desserts etc we’d have to move to a table downstairs .. Thanks but no thanks we won’t be back! Your loss not ours..

Really good food and a real focus on gluten free. Eva, our waitress, was a joy!

Service is lovely, as is the atmosphere. The food is nice but didn't overwhelm me so I didn't find it outstanding personally, having said that I wouldn't mind coming back.

This was my second time visiting this restaurant.the first time we were placed downstairs ans this time the same. Unfortunately most of the staff stay upstairs so the same standard of service that you recieve upstairs isnt the same as the basement. The food was ok, the steaks and chicken were dry, vegetables ok, the wine was lovely but there was no cocktail menu. Our atmosphere was disturbed by several little black flies everywhere. On the walls, the table was stick (i had to ask the waitress for a piece of tissue sprayed with cleaning solution so i could wipe it clean). I did mention the flies again and pointed it out to a male waiter who agreed with me but didnt come back to me at all after this point. I took pictures but i will not upload them here. There were four of us in my party and it was a dinner booked to celebrate getting married but i trully didnt enjoy myself at all. Towards the end of our meal we felt slightly rushed as if they needed the table back as a large group came in so we paid the bill and left. I did mention to the waitress upstairs that it was not a favourable visit at all and that they needed to do something to get rid of the small flies and she was the only person to apologise out of the three people i advised. Very disappointing.

Had a very juicy perfectly cooked steak! Very very nice, couldn't finish was so full. Will go again to try other things. Lots of choices but probably best if you like Argentine food. Birthday treat with my brother. Such a nice way to spend a rare day off.

The meat wasn’t cooked well. Unfortunately the quality of the meat wasn’t up to par with the prices at all. The customer service is good but the food and the prices do not match. Definitely better restaurants out there for cheaper the price.

My re-view of the Argentinian in Blackheath: Last Friday night, my friends and I decided to try an Argentinian restaurant in Blackheath that came highly recommended by one of our Argentinian friends. We arrived around 9 PM, eager to enjoy a meal, but noticed a perfect outdoor table with a "reserved" sign, which led us to wander the streets in search of another outdoor spot. Eventually, we opted to go inside and approached the door, where a sign instructed us to "please wait here." We stood quietly, making eye contact with the waitstaff, who acknowledged us but didn’t greet us as we waited for someone to assist us. After about five minutes, we were finally seated at the last available table inside. Our server, a young lady, seemed friendly enough. The restaurant was well-kept, adorned with photos of celebrities like Madonna, Mick Jagger, and even Queen Elizabeth II, who had all dined there before. However, the noise level was overwhelming, making it difficult to discuss the menu and choose a dish or a nice bottle of wine. When our waiter finally came to take our order, my friends still had questions about the menu, but he responded with short, dismissive answers before walking away. As she returned with our appetiser plates moments later another waiter approaches with cutlery. This waiter does not greet us and bashes the cutlery against the dinner table. The next interaction isn’t much greater, whilst we were still chewing, the “nice” waiter comes back to remove all the plates off the table even though the mains did not arrive for another 10 minutes. The atmosphere shifted a bit when one particularly boisterous table left, allowing us to appreciate the restaurant's fantastic music. Unfortunately, the food fell short of our expectations, with the Altaviva Malbec being the highlight of the meal, despite being warmer than ideal. After finishing our meal, we asked for the bill and rolled a cigarette while we waited. Leaving the restaurant, we felt disappointed with our experience. Shortly after we left, my friend realized he had left his black tobacco pouch on the table, which was concerning since the napkins were also black, making it possible it had been mistaken for trash. We returned to the restaurant about ten minutes later to inquire about the pouch. When we asked the uninterested "not-so-nice" waiter to check for it, she informed us they hadn’t found anything. My friend requested she check the rubbish in the back, but after a brief absence, she returned to say it wasn't there. Needing to use the restroom, my friend asked if she could go, but after exchanging some dirty looks among the staff, they told her it had already been cleaned and was off-limits. As we stepped outside, frustrated, I offered my friend a cigarette, only to realize I was also missing my cigarette pouch. After paying a hefty £115 for three people, with mediocre food and a lukewarm bottle of wine, this was not the experience we had hoped for. We left feeling let down and unlikely to return. Do not recommend and will not be coming there again, despite the celebrities who farted, probably as much as I did, after this experience.

I recently dined with friends and it was an exceptional experience. We all opted for various meat dishes, and each one was superbly prepared. The flavors were rich and the quality of the meat was outstanding. The service was attentive and friendly.Highly recommended!

I have to be honest on this matter. Being a resident of blackheath and recently decided to take venture in having our family dinners locally, I was so disappointed with this restaurant. We booked a table for4 arrived settled and ordered for the food. It took a long time but still since we all love steak we know it takes atleast half an hour to get a nice steak done. First forward this particular restaurant only has one steak sauce on the full Menu The menu which has over 4 types of steaks and the restaurant only serves 1 steak sauce one red flag. Secondly the drink menu has no cocktails options and I am like ok only beer and some kind of wines. What happens or what do ladies drink from menu. Tried to order simple drink on the menu but all came out tasting horrible. Sorry. Lastly when the steaks arrived on the table. Extremely dry, hard as a rock. My twins boys were complaining asking all kinds of questions. I felt terrible. My husband was like wish we had jumped on the train to Canary Wharf or chairing Cross. Something we do often whenever we want to enjoy our family steak dinner date. Terrible steak made so horribly. Plus they need to add some more things on the menu in terms of steak sauces and some ladies cocktails. If a restaurant is to consider itself as a steak restaurant kindly make up or match up on your steak sauces. Make nice steaks As for me not recommending this restaurant for steak dinner meal. Totally disappointed. Over all the restaurant is simply elegant and tidy with nice setting for the guests.

Bonne viande, que ce soit brochette ou steak, mais accompagnement limité, frites surgelées (nous avons vu les sacs remontés du congel du sous sol!) même pas un peu de salade ,ni tomate, sauces mayonnaise et ketchup pas faites maison. Bon vin chilien, prix raisonnable. Nous attendions un peu plus, dommage.

First date with my wife for 7 months due to her not feeling well. We had a great meal. I had the T-bone steak, and she had the squid ink pasta followed with a lemon cheesecake to share.

Been coming to this steak restaurant a few times now, the closest to good steak we can get coming from Kent! Great selection of cuts and wines. Even got some Argentinian groceries on offer!

Have passed this place numerous times when walking the dogs on the heath and finally took the plunge yesterday! Booked a table but were disappointed to be shown downstairs (didn’t know there was a downstairs!) The waiter saw our disappointment and went out of his way to find a space for us upstairs. Big thumbs up for him! We had the mixed grill to share and a variety of starters, all well cooked and generous portions of sweetbreads. Burger and garlic fries went down well with the 12 year old. The only disappointment was the chocolate fudge cake which was very dry only saved by the ice cream however, it was consumed regardless by said 12 year old so everyone was happy. Had a very nice, reasonably priced Malbec too.

An impromptu visit on my birthday and we were very pleasantly surprised. The steak was amazing, as good as Hawksmoor in my view, sides were delicious as was the wine. Quite confined spacing which makes it very noisy on a busy evening, to the point we could not hear each other talk! Appeared no consistency in who was serving our table, think four different staff attended us. Steak was good however, wine also but pricy at £32 for minimum house wine. Ordered salad, never arrived, did remind but ended meal, still not on table. Pudding description very different to one that arrived, so cancelled.Overall disappointed, had better expectations.

We’ve had the most amazing meal today. Their mixed starter has the best black pudding I’ve ever had. Great wine, yummy burger and steaks, definitely recommend

Went with a friend for lunch and both left super impressed. I am from that part of the world and the quality of the starter chorizo and bife the lomo (fillet) was up there. Reasonably priced , well located and the place is full of photos to check out. Fully recommend.

This is usually a 5* place for us, however, our experience last night (Sat 16th March) was disappointing and embarrassing in front of guests we had taken. The food was excellent as usual. The service from our waitress, however, was very poor. She just seemed annoyed to be there all night and was quite rude at points. She brought our bill as we were finishing desserts saying “we need the table back now” in a very abrupt tone, as though we were inconveniencing the staff. While we ran a little past our two-hour allotment, it was mainly due to the slow pace at which the food was served. Given this and the fact that we were spending nearly £300 for a table of four, I would not expect to be treated this way. Really disappointed.

Fantastic local restaurant, with an interesting menu and good wine selection. There is an upstairs and small downstairs area for seating. Casual vibe, and can be noisy if there’s a big group sharing the downstairs space. The starters were a highlight, we loved the black pudding sausage and sweetbreads. Fillet steak was excellent. Partner ordered sirloin but a ribeye was brought by accident, service was very good and quickly rectified.

We love it here. The steaks are amazing, as are the sides and kids menu! Wine is great too and cheesecake is always delicious. Fab, friendly service and the chefs are excellent (steaks cooked perfectly to order). Thank you!

This is a wonderful place for dinner. The food is exceptional - we tried some dishes we’ve never tried and they were so good. I regret not getting steak! Wine was lovely and the service was attentive. I would definitely go back. Call for reservations!

I went for lunch today for the first time for a long time. Sadly, the quality of the steaks, while perfectly acceptable, was nothing like the quality I recall from before.

Have had better stakes else where. Really disappointed with the Ribeye. It was practically leather. And Not one person came to check on how was our food...

My parents love this restaurant especially for the steaks. They have been unable to get out to enjoy a nice meal since my dad became ill. The restaurant manager was able to do a special dinner to celebrate my dad’s 93rd birthday if I was able to collect. They thoroughly enjoyed the food and wish to express their gratitude.

Top notch experience all round. Fantastic and unique food, tasty and lots of character. The staff were friendly and swift, and the wine was nice!

Good quality of meats and food. Somehow they always have the ability to make you feel like they’re doing you a favour for letting you pay for average service. Still much better than their site in Greenwich. I suppose that one eventually closing down was not a big surprise.

4 stars for the food because the parsley & garlic fries was ever so slightly overlooked; the rib eye was cooked to perfection but the trimming of the steak left something to be desired. The negroni had the wrong ice so the drink diluted in record time. The empanadas and black pudding were faultless. Laura, our Italian waitress, was her usual charming self. The service was attentive but not overbearing. 3 stars for atmosphère because original sitting downstairs was almost morbid. Subsequent outdoor sitting was not well covered by the heaters. Of course, we will be back.

The steak was good (although I was served my friends which was cooked differently) so we swapped back after 1/4. The wine was nice, and the food was good, but the prices for done things were ridiculous. £10 for a sliced salad tomato and red onion. The service from the lady downstairs was terrible. She doesn't most of her time behind the bar on her phone. Didn't let us check the wine, dumped it on the table and left, no attempt to make us feel like anything other than an inconvenience to her. The bill stated 12.5% added for parties of 6 or over, ours was 5 but also did. Didn't argue it as the birthday person we were there for hates any confrontation but it was the first place I didn't think deserved a tip at all. It's a shame, the steak was good, the place is nice but they have service issues which really need sorting out.

Food was good, except that we ordered the steak to be medium rare but it turned out medium. Everything tasted good though. Service, however, was poor. We got a table without reservation but were not told the table had to be returned for the next reservation until the last 5 minutes! So basically, we suddenly had to finish our meal within 5 minutes with the waitress kept asking if she could clear any plates🤦🏻‍♀️

Lovely little restaurant, the quality of the food is outstanding and presentation very good. They have a great selection of Argentinian beef and fresh fish. The only criticism I can put to this romantic setting is the level of services - they w SB DGere a little slow but it was a Wednesday night at six o'clock so I guess they may have been getting ready.

Ordered pasta. They had no pasta. Asked why, the waiter said they are mainly a steak restaurant. Asked waiter if he knew that the restaurant website eulogises the Italian cultural history of Argentina. He hadn’t read the website. Asked why the table was stained with oil, balsamic vinegar and other foodstuffs, he said maybe it’s the wooden table. He added he cleans the tables. Other identical tables totally unstained. He said they only clean tables once a year. Added they wipe tables with sanitiser after every customer. Table also wobbly. No offer to move us even though there were 6 empty tables between 1pm and 3pm. Needless to say will not be going back. Caveat emptor.

I’ve been here 3 times now. Once with my wife and mum and twice with just my wife (I think these are the only 2 people I ever eat out with come to think). Each time has been very nice. It’s an Argentinian place so I’ve had the steak as my main each time: * Ribeye 200g * Ribeye 400g * Sirloin 200g Each time asked for medium rare and each time it was bang on. Service is good and the location probably couldn’t be better. Slap bang on the edge of Blackheath Common. My 3 visits were in the summer twice and in the winter once. If the evening is nice, they open the big windows so all tables upstairs get that alfresco feel. My advice would be to book well in advance. It gets booked up incredibly quickly!

Simply the best steak in London. Absolutely love this place. Excellent wine choice and steaks to suit all - or if you can't choose have 4 cuts cooked to your taste to share!! Book to avoid disappointment.

There was one vegan option, which I wasn't expentant of but appreciated. My friends thoroughly enjoyed their steaks. The vegan pizza had a great base to it.

We've come to rely on Buenos Aires over the years for great steak and tasty wine. Unfortunately, the steak was not up to scratch on the last visit. When my companion expressed her disappointment, she was spoken to as though she had never eaten sirloin before. Slightly strange. Wine and other items delicious, as ever, especially the sweetbreads. Outrageous £200+ bill for 3 people, including a terrifying 12.5% service charge thrown on top. That's unfair on customers. Eye-watering price, disappointing steak.

By far the nicest restaurant in blackheath!! We were going to eat at the Ivy or Cote but thought we would try an independent restaurant and therefore hoped for better quality food. We were not disappointed. We had the meat sharing platter which was soo much food and honestly the nicest meat I have ever had. One of the steaks was literally like butter!! And the dessert was gorgeous. But what made this experience even better was the great service and warm welcome. All the staff were great, especially Laura- our waitress for the evening- who was soo accommodating and welcoming. We wanted to sit outside but it was a little chilly. She made sure we had the heater and blankets to make our experience enjoyable. She was soo friendly. I don’t usually do reviews but we had to get her name and write this as it was such a lovely night. Great restaurant and great service. Would 100% go back as soon as possible. Such a cute little find!!

I have often go to steakhouses and I love a good fillet. Coming to Buenos Aires cafe I had the fillet with creamy mash potato followed by the cheesecake and it was divine! The server Vasile was so attentive and a dream when questioned on the menu. Thanks for making my first trip to Blackheath memorable I will be 100% be coming back!

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Buenos Ayres, not just because the food and atmosphere was incredible. But our waitress, Lara (the Italian waitress working) was a delight! Would recommend - and get the rump!

Been several times to this restaurant and I’m never disappointed, always a lovely experience. The fillet steak is to recommend and all the sides order for the table was loved by my family. The waitress that served us is brilliant and she even remember the red wine I liked from last time, Tapiz Syrah- so good!

Probably some of the best steak in London, very attentive and knowledgable staff (recommended an amazing red wine called Tapiz Syrah to go with the steak). Recommend booking in advance as it always seems pretty busy, not the cheapest, but very reasonably priced for the quality of the food served.

Obviously the Argentinean meat has no comparison to any other, and this place knows how to make a good parrilla. Try the dulce de leche crepes, you won't be disappointed.

Just been here again and as always it was excellent. Lovely sirloin steak and a beautifully smooth Malbec to wash it down with. The staff were lovely and the kids enjoyed their gnocchi and steak. Thanks once again Buenos Aires Cafe.

Bit somber, not a great team of staff, the lady who appears to either be the owner is very unhelpful and very rude, dosen't let you order what you want, constantly repeats herself. Not a great experience, ruined the meal.

First time since before lockdown. Just as good as we remembered. The steaks were superb, the lamb sweetbreads were delicious and the crepes were excellent. A very reasonably priced wine list. All told a really excellent meal. We will definitely be back!

Came at 530 to an empty restaurant, was told that if I didn't booked I couldn't get a table. Waited outside for 10 or 20 min while choosing where else to go, still empty... Very rude staff, better to avoid

Steak as requested for my child's birthday lunch, asked for medium ribeye and filet, came out well done however, we were hungry so didn't debate over it. Chips were not homemade, they're frozen. We decided against desserts judging by the quality of food, and shocking prices of desserts. We visited close to lunch break closing time and waitresses disappeared, had to go hunting for someone to settle our bill, could have walked out but we are honest people. Any other customer wouldn't have been so polite about the overall service and dry steak. The toilets needs a good clean too.

We dined here Saturday lunchtime and from start to finish it was brilliant! The food here is second to none. Home made, flavoursome and delicious. My burger and chips were fantastic and husband's spatchcock chicken and mash was superb. We like to dine here once a month and everytime we do they exceed expectations.

I promised my son a steak dinner for our weekend in London. The waitress said they were fully booked. Oh no, I didn't want to go for pizza, I wanted steak. I asked if we could sit outside and the waitress turned on the heaters, wiped the raindrops off the table and chairs and gave us blankets. We would have happily sat outside but a group inside left early which meant we could sit inside. Thank you! We had 75 mins to eat a three course meal. Our steaks were yummy (maybe a little too bloody for my son) and we finished our cheesecake a minute before the next group arrived for the table. Thank you for fitting us in.
