Cuckfish in Mid Sussex

Over a third of the fish was dry with overcooked batter, so I couldn't eat it. In addition, there was more batter than fish in that portion. Very disappointed.

The food is good but a bit over priced. However, the guy (pretty sure he is the owner/joint owner) has got a serious attitude problem. He is rude and wholly unpleasant to deal with. I will not go back, there are other chippies nearby with just as good food and you get welcomed with a smile.

We have used this chippy a number of times and always come back to the same conclusion. The food is great but the staff are rude and have an attitude problem.

Extremely rude service from the gentleman server, if only the food could have made up for it.. yet the dry and overpriced burger and chips didn’t 1/5.

Some of the best fish and chips in Sussex! Fresh to order and not too greasy. Crispy batter and chips. Amazing Hardworking Friendly staff. Definitely recommend a visit. Also Delivery available via Deliveroo!

Absolutely wonderful chippy, these guys are so friendly and welcoming we felt like we had already known them years! The food was top class, perfect crispy chips just how they should be and excellent service and prices. Could not recommend enough!

This has been our go to fish and chips shop for years but today they were of a very poor standard sadly. Chips were rubbery...think it maybe the potatoes used possibly. The fish not it's usual standard either. Sad as expensive but usually worth the cost.

Writing this after walking out of the chip shop receiving my order. We waited 10 mins for food and the entire time a member of staff was shouting, swearing and abusing a member of his staff in front of my 2 year old child. Never before have I seen such rude abusive work environment and in front of customers.and to top it off when I spoke up I was called a Tw*t. I can hope the young boy working there can get out of the toxic work environment. Please don't support a company run like this and shop elsewhere.

Amazing fish and chips shop. Can’t fault the food whatsoever. Very polite girl on don’t desk, however, the main chef cooking the fish would not stop having a go at a young lad who also worked there, for a small mistake. Started off bt saying he was a sh*t head, and an idiot. Then started going on about family traits and personality. This older male staff member needs to respect his employees and defiantly not treat them so badly, especially in front of customers!

The shop itself appears well kept and sits nicely on the high street, however I found the vibe of the shop to be manic. Names were being hollered across the shop floor with the manager snapping at staff. I was asked several times whether I wanted salt or vinegar even though all staff members were bunched together at the till and had heard my reply each time. Everyone seemed quite flustered and unsure on what they were doing. The fish & chips were average and not worth the price. Reading previous reviews I can see that this is not an uncommon experience. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go there again.

Amazing food would highly recommend and the staff are all incredibly friendly and speedy with their service. Definitely the best chip shop i've ever been to!

I went Into the shop and was ignored by the man. he proceded to stand up and do "zest-ups" on the counter before shaking his head and shaked dandruff into my food and sang the ali a theme tune

The owner works hard to please all, including some demanding customers. Fish and chips are difficult to get right. There are few fish bars that can do this well nowadays. The Plaice is nice here, chips.. mmm...? The portions are enormous with price to match. Some meals are definitely not healthy, but the manager knows that and must offer what people want, its their choice. It's not like McDonalds advertising where they are pushing their heart attack offerings down peoples throats. The manager shouts because he is hard of hearing. It is very hard work and stressful running this. These days there are so many considerations, health and safety, allergies, late deliveries, staffing problems, Covid, unfair reviews, rudeness etc. People should be more understanding, if they don't like it, then don't come back. The takings here probably average out the same every week.

New to the area, i arrived at 8.20pm Saturday night to try fish and chips for my family, only to be greated by the rudest little man shouting across at me as i entered that he could only do me a regular cod and chips. I was so taken aback and felt that i was totally putting him out, despite the closing time being 9pm. Regrettably, in my state of shock, I ordered it and decided to get my family's food from elsewhere. I felt so sorry for the polite young members of staff working there, the way he was shouting at and bullying them was just awful. To top it off the chips were hard and the fish well overcooked, bordering on burnt. Quite honestly the worst fish and chip shop experience i have had In 40 years. And the box it came in said how friendly the service was! Never again.

A good quality fish and chip takeaway. Friendly service, gets busy but can call or order ahead. Reasonable price - better than many chippies.

We had a long journey ahead and a friend in the area recommended Cuckfish. What a treat, beautiful high quality fish as fresh as can be and chips to dream about. We live miles away but I’ll definitely look for an excuse to come back. It was just delicious and the staff including owner OJ were so friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth a detour after a day at the coast!

Firstly, the man at the counter was really nice, he offered us some extra, free juice and an extra tartar sauce packet for my fish. He gave my friend extra chips with his chicken nuggets and my food arrived in about 4 minutes

Strange experience and was half expecting to see a camera crew appear Visited last night, driving through after watching Brighton take apart Liverpool at the Amex Food - from what we got, excellent quality and portion size proportionate to cost. Sadly items missing (onion rings and kids drink) and we live 20 mins north so not going to go back Now I am almost certain the missing food was a by product of the managers approach to his staff (who were excellent in their own right) For some reason he needs to constantly berate them for no reason at all, loud enough for the customers to hear. He was also rude to customers who had the “cheek” to turn up at a chippy on a Saturday night without pre booking, mate it’s a chip shop it’s not a starred restaurant. Little word of advise, encourage your staff and be nice then mistakes won’t happen, they were clearly treading on egg shells and I bet you have a high turn over. Don’t be rude to paying customers who have simply turned up to pay you for a takeaway meal. If you can’t handle running a modest village chip shop I suggest you get a new career Shocking behaviour, maybe worth it if you want some comedy before you eat

Clearly stated it was open online but when I arrived the door was open, guy turned me away and said come back at 4. I'm not from the area so travelled out my way to be disappointed. Need to update the online information!

Just had a great meal from cuckfish great chips and and nice sized portions of fish plenty of flavour of all cooked fresh to order

First Time to Cuckfish and it didn’t disappoint. We ordered 2 regular cod and chips, mushy peas and a jumbo sausage in batter. All tasted fantastic, batter was light and fish white and fresh. Portion size was big and I would normally eat a large anywhere else, so maybe next time order a large chips and share. We ordered online and it was ready to collect when we got there, friendly staff too. Sam’s Fish Bar now has competition!!

Rare, I find, to come across a fish and chip shop that consistently serves top quality produce. Cuckfish does - I have had takeaways from them at least half a dozen times. The only slight blemish was some mediocre squid rings on one occasion.
