I can really recomend both the food and the accomodation at The Craigs Hotel in Callander. We had a lovely stay with a genuine indian dinner, dinner was excellent! friendly staff, in a well looked after hotell. Thankyou from us Lena Hadal and Tim Carter

The food was excellent, from the Indian menu my selection was tasty and piping hot. Even with drinks the price was right. The service was attentive without being intrusive and food was served in good time; that said when I was there there were only 6 other covers. Free WiFi is available. The restaurant isn't large so booking may be needed in peak season and the largest table would do 4 diners. My only reservation is that the restaurant area is also the way to/from the back exit of the hotel so there are people walking through - it's also the way to the ladies loo from the bar.

We stayed at the Abbotsford Lodge and ate here. The food was absolutely excellent, we ate from both the Indian and the Traditional menus and they were able to accommodate food allergies, too. Service was friendly, efficient and excellent. We would definitely come back and recommend to friends and family Thanks so much to everyone.

We stayed in the Abbotsford Lodge for 2 nights and came here for our evening meals on the 2 nights. We found the food simply outstanding and the service from the staff from both the restaurant and the bar extremely attentive, cheerful and happy to serve. They had the Valentines Menu on which was a simple but effective and straightforward menu without being over complicated. It was just right to cater for all dietary needs. The food was delicious and great value. We would most definitely come back again and would highly recommend this place for anyone driving by for a bit to eat or wanting to even stop over. We had a few drinks in their bar area too, which has a live fire which extremely cosy to sit by on a cold winters day. I would definitely recommend this place for drinks in the bar, to dine in the restaurant area and even staying in the hotel too.

The bar in the Crags Hotel is small and relatively plain. It is also cosy and is clearly a pub of choice for the Callander locals. On a couple of previous holiday visits we used this bar regularly and it was nice to find that it has retained its simple charm. Our plan this evening was to have a pint in three or four other pubs, and the fact that we changed our minds and just stayed here, enjoying some chat and banter with the local clientele says it all. Great service, good beer, lovely company and even a farting dog. What more could you possibly want? Top pub.

My husband and myself had drinks in the bar for a couple of days on the second day we booked to have a curry in the restaurant I had chicken tikka masala which was really nice my husband ordered the balti lamb which was far too hot it was more like a vindaloo when we asked to speak to the waiter about this he just put the menu in front of us and said it did say it was hot. My husband said there are degrees of hot and was definately far too hot. In my husbands opinion this was the worst curry ever tasted by him and only ate a few bites. We won’t be back. Plus when we were speaking to the waiter Frazer he was raising his voice and we were getting embarrassed by this so we paid the Bill not happy with this service at all

Call on the Crags for a drink and was lucky enough to get food on a Wednesday night. Fraser who was doing the bar and serving food was so efficient and managed to squeeze us in for food. The only options were curries but that suited us just fine. There was a good selection of starters and main courses! All the food was outstanding. We really enjoyed. The chicken in the chicken tikka starter and the curries was so succulent and were huge. Can’t fault the food or the service! Reasonably priced too! Big shout out to Fraser too!!

Stayed for a single night. Nice room even if it was not the largest we have stayed in. A friendly welcome and a comfortable stay. Sensibly for a small hotel they ask you to pre-order breakfast which was beautifully cooked to order. Unfortunately can’t say anything about their evening food as the restaurant is closed in a Monday and Tuesday. Very good value for money.

We stayed a week in Callander, and Crags was recommended by both the Inn we stayed in and the tour guide we used. However, we tried to go there for dinner twice during the week (both on weeknights) and even though they had tables, they turned us down, saying they were booked. The first time, they had reserved signs on the empty tables so we understood. The second time they had many empty tables and told us they could not serve us. This was really a disappointment, and we are not sure if they perhaps do not serve American’s there. This is a pub, we were dressed cleanly, and appropriately.

Crags hotel was lovely, room was furnished well and spotlessly clean, also has parking facilities which others didn’t have, staff all very helpful and friendly, only downside for us personally was the evening meal, the nouvelle cuisine style food just isn’t for us, cannot fault the food itself, but nearly £19 for 4 small slices of lamb and some veg displayed fancy on plate isn’t what we personally like, we prefer the traditional good pub grub food and value for money. Couldn’t fault the place otherwise, just wasn’t for us due to the meal.

Came across as we were walking up and down choosing somewhere to eat. It was the banana bread for dessert that did it for me. We went in, but were too early by an hour (had we read the very large sign outside we would have noticed this!). Could have chosen anywhere else but I was determined to have this pudding, so we walked to encourage the appetite. Don't be put off by the outside - it is deceiving. We had a lovely table at the back with low level jazz as background music (you can easily talk or just listen) in a sort of rustic setting. The food was delicious. I had fish cake with chilli dip and hubby had black pudding and egg. Mains was sea bass with pearl barley (very yum) and venison tagine which I am told was delicious. And onto the big event - the banana bread. It was two wee slices and some homemade ice cream. I wished it had been bigger (like a slice of dumpling size) and the ice cream was too "Icey" and not enough "creamy" - I was crunching on the Icey bits although both bread and ice cream were very tasty. The bill was a very reasonable £50 for two 3 courses, a pint, 2 gins and a tea and a coffee. Would definitely recommend.

We stayed in the Hotel for 2 nights recently and although the room was a bit tired looking the food was not too shabby. Our deal gave us breakfast in the morning and 3 course dinner one night. I started with the tapas which had it not been included I wouldn't have paid for - 7/8 slices of cold meat, some olives and a slice of bread - not a good start. However the 'chicken gumbo' was not bad at all (less spicy than I like but still tasty); and I had the cheese and homemade oatcakes to finish - again okay, nice oakcakes, strong cheddar and some relish. This would have cost me around £20 and if not for the deal we were on and I think I would have been a little disappointed on value. Scottish breakfast was also good, however menu said if we ordered the day before we could have smoked haddock or kippers - when we asked for these for the following day we were told there was no fish so it was going to full Scottish again or cereal and toast - full Scottish won out again!

Alex, the proprietor chef took the trouble to discuss our requirements, particularly my daughters gluten free needs, prior to ordering and again checked afterwards for our comments

The food was really good but at the same time it was just a tiny bit away from being amazing. Silly things like the haggis starter coming with the smallest pooched egg we've ever seen, almost no white at all it needing something else. Also I had a smoked haddock hot curry which was amazing and something I normally wouldn't order but the rice had been microed to death. At first I was thinking I wish there was more rice once I tasted it I was glad There wasn't. The sticky toffee puddin also comes alone. Needs cream or custard or something with it but again the puddin was really good. I know this sounds like it wasn't good but it was the things they did right where really really good it's just silly wee thing that let them down, it was kinda frustrating as I totally think this place could be amazing. Also there where no other people in the rest and it was very echoey with no background music at all. All we could do was talk over the extractor fan that was really loud in the sinning area. A bit of music would totally give the place some much needed atmosphere to go with there amazing decor.I would defo come back here for the food and wine though as it was lovely and reasonably priced.

During a week in Callander we tried most of the pubs and the front bar in the Crags was one of our favourites. Unlike many hotel bars this one feels like a pub and is obviously used by several locals as their "local".Service was good and the staff and local customers were engaging and friendly. We didn't eat here but the food looked to be very good.

We ate at this restaurant when we visited Callendar, it was one of the best meals we have had, the food was full of flavour and the lamb hotpot was fantastic. The home made ice cream was some of the best we have ever had

We called in to this restaurant as it was very close to where we were staying. So pleased we did. We had a fabulous meal. I had the soup really tasty but they used bog standard sliced bread. Crusty bread would have been so much better. My husband had haggis and boiled egg he said this lovely. Main course I had veins I mince and tatties my husband had beef stew and tatties. It was so tasty. We were too full for pudding which was a real shame as the sticky toffee pudding and apricot crumble looked fab. Would definitely go back.

Sadly, we arrived too late to enjoy the town, due to travel delays. However, our room was very nice and the beds were very comfortable. We ate a delicious supper in the hotel restaurant, including some very tasty local beer. The people are friendly and helpful, and will do whatever you need done to ensure your comfort. I only wish we could stay longer. Woke up to beautiful autumn forest views this morning, and had a nice included breakfast. Parking is challenging, but only because of temporary street repairs, and easily managed.

Great reviews on here and from the locals but we were disappointed, Sorry. Our Steaks were way over cooked, I ordered Rare and my partner Medium Rare both were cooked the same and at least medium, still edible but not what we ordered. Not cheap either, I think with the extra for the mushroom sauce they were about £25.00 each My starter of black pudding and poached egg was over cooked too, no runny egg so all a bit dry. We weren't going to complain but when the chef/owner asked if we had enjoyed our meal we were honest and he did discount 20% off. overall the experience wasn't awful just average and a bit disappoint because we had high expectations.

My other half and I decided to have an impromptu meal out as a wee treat after a challenging week!Into the Crags we went, great craic in the bar as usual and after a quick perusal of the me and u we decided to have dinner. My not easy to please (foodwise) other half decide on a starter of prawn sesame toast with sweet chilli sauce . . .the ecstasy on his face after the first bite persuaded me to sample his starter DEEEELICIOUS! Alex the chef and owner was kind enough to agree to combining both haggis and black pudding with poached egg to make make my starter a delight of Scottishness on my palate. After our starters we had a medium rare steak and beefburger both of which were cooked exactly to our liking and beautifully presented, mine with lush homemade coleslaw and fresh side salad as well as crispy fries, the steak had tasty mushrooms, onions and tomatoes! The staff were friendly and attentive and the added entertainment of Alex singing his unique version of Sweet Child of Mine albeit at a low level ( we were just very close to the kitchen) just made this fabulous meal!A taste experience not to miss . . Get yersels tae the Crags!

Came up for Ryder Cup and this was the best place we ate in, sea bass was excellent (and good value) so was the haggis starter. Good service and friendly too, small front bar had a good atmosphere and some well kept beer.

We visited for a drink and meal on subsequent Ryder Cup nights. The meal we had was first class and the two of us were accommodated late at short notice. The sea bass and risotto and fish curry followed by sweet and cheese and biscuits were extremely good and reasonably priced. The front bar was so friendly with cheap beers and drinks. Two superb nights

This is a well priced pub/restaurant that serves very tasty food. The service was prompt and there were several nice dishes to choose from for starter through to pudding. I thoroughly enjoyed fishcake, followed by sea bass and my partner haggis followed by venison. We both cleaned our plates! Will go back and would recommend. It is is very unprotentious and relaxed.

Having had a second visit to the Crags Hotel tonight to confirm the food, beer and atmosphere really were as good as our first visit; it is pleasurable to say that on a less busy evening in both restaurant and bar they were even better. Both meals (Mutton Curry and Sea Bass) and courses experienced by myself and my wife were excellent, with this supplemented by really good service, and fine beers. This really is fine restaurant food and service at pub prices; please make an effort to go there and experience the same.....you won't regret it.

We really enjoyed an evening meal at Crags in Callander. Delicious food which was presented beautifully, great service without being too over-bearing and not too heavy on the pocket either. The restaurant part is behind the bar area at the front of the pub. We would definitely go back...

We had dinner here the other night it was great. The Chef Alex has a dry wit and is a very good chef. There are some interesting meals on the menu. Almost with a fusion influence. Each of our party really enjoyed ther meals and the deserts were also really good. Definitely recommend this.

Excel·lent Hotel, small, friendly keepers, in a pedestrian street. The parking is a bit away but free during the night. Good breakfast, but no dinner, with plenty of options not far away. Double room (it was set at twins, but they modified it to please us) with a reasonable bathroom.

For the price it's pretty good, but it's true that the service was a bit rushed and inside the place they have two wasted and obstructed bars.
