The restaurant was pleasant with a nice atmosphere. The waiting staff were polite and helpful. We chose the fillet and ribeye steaks, both medium rare, both should be of a high standard but unfortunately both steaks were dry and tough. The dauphinoise potatoes in my opinion should have been soft and creamy but instead was a solid square lump of grey potato. We reported this to the waitress and were given a small discount. I would not choose to visit this restaurant again.

I have been a regular customer since Cosy Tapas opened buy felt compelled to write a review after last night's meal. We were a group of four ladies and ordered main meals. One lady ordered the duck, which arrived, over cooked by the way but she ate it, and was later served with chips. I did not notice until later, that the duck did not come with any vegetables, as described. When challenged it appears the chef "didn't know it was served with vegetables"! On inspection of the menu, some dishes are served with vegetables and some are not...and potatoes or fries are an additional cost. This is all very confusing for customers, and it appears also the chef! Wouldn't it make more sense to serve meats with vegetables and fries/potatoes as standard, but with some flexibility if requested. Again the cooking of the meat products continues to be overcooked. Steaks previously overlooked and tonight chicken dry and difficult to swallow and duck served well donex when should be pink. Second disappointing meal leaves us feeling very sad as have always sung the praises of this restaurant.

Beautiful spotless restaurant with outside seating plus large brollies if needed. So, they have a special menu board inside along with the main menu. Our friends opted for a tapas starter with Sunday roast (lamb or beef) dinner. A couple had dessert and roast. I had r tapas. Scallops, mussels, crispy pork belly, and little fried potatoes with a fried egg. And Spanish sauce. The food from the open kitchen was fantastic, really good and to be fair, a lot of it. The only criticism from a couple was that the Yorkshire puddings were more like a cake. The bar had a nice selection of wine and a few continental beers. All very nice. Service was immaculate, efficient, and very friendly. A great group of staff. Well put together and run. What a brilliant venue. With carriages (train as that's the theme here) for rent with self-catering facilities. Highly recommend this restaurant if you visit Barry.

Low quality food (think wetherspoons etc, actually think Wetherspoons might be better), small portions, not very good value. Me and my wife went there for lunch on a Thursday. Ordered 6 items from the 3 for £15 menu. Gambas we ordered were tiny shrimp, not even king prawns, one small slice of belly pork that was precooked and a bit dry l. The rest we had was also small portions and not great. We had to go somewhere else to get pizza after as was like we just had a very overpriced starter.

Visited Saturday 11th May in a party of 7, we were seated at a table with 3 down each side and 1 person on the end, we immediately noted the volume of the music. It was so loud that even in our small group we were unable to hear each other which sadly meant we really were like 2 separate groups. We all ordered starters and mains and my partner requested mussels from the tapas menu for her main. When the starters were brought out my partners mussels were also brought even though she had scallops to start. They were returned to the kitchen. The scallops were very good and we all were happy with the food. The mains were a bit of a different story sadly, two of us ordered t bone steak and my fellow diner requested not to have the onions and mushroom and just the tomato. When served neither steak had any garnish at all and it was just on bare plate, they were returned to the kitchen and what came back can only be described as burnt offerings thrown on top of the steaks. I did not get the vine ripened tomato, I had maybe three slices of mushroom and the carrot and onion were charred and indistinguishable from each other. We did not risk challenging the chef again but what we had was clearly not freshly cooked. With my steak I ordered dauphinois potato as did another guest, they arrived at the same time but whereas one looked fresh, moist and creamy, mine looked like it had been sat on the pass under heat lamps. It was totally dry with shards of burnt potato rendering it inedible. No staff came and asked us how the food was as I would have definitely sent mine back. When the table was cleared I asked the server to show the chef as it was inedible, when he returned I asked what the chef had said and was told “we don’t tell the chef as he’s not very good at dealing with feedback…” not impressed at all with the response.my partners mussels also appeared to have been sat at the pass as the sauce had formed a skin and mussels were over cooked and rubbery. Overall not very impressed by the kitchen and other diners in my party agreed it unlikely we would return. On the flip side one of our party was drinking craft beer and as he got the bottom of his glass there was dried debris stuck to the glass, the server took it over to the bar and with a couple of minutes the bar manager came over and apologised for the dirty glass, he replaced it with a beer on the house and also removed the other from the bill. It shows the disparity between the bar and the kitchen and proves that good service is appreciated and when done well, really makes an occasion.

The waitresses were nice and polite. The atmosphere was okay. The wine and food was not great. I ordered a bottle of merlot that was £28 and I've had nicer bottles from Tesco for a fiver. I ordered the deep fried goats cheese to start ,which was really nice. For my main I ordered the duck which was honestly the worst duck I've ever had. It was almost dry and quite chewy where I was really looking forward to some tender nice meat. Also there was absolutely no seasoning on the meat so it tasted extremely bland. Several of my group tried the duck and agreed that it was extremely chewy and not nice and so I decided when I had finished that I would let staff know so they can inform the chef. However when I told the staff I got the overwhelming impression that none of them actually cared at all that I had had a poor meal. In fact all she said was "but you have eaten it though?" To which I obviously said that yes I have as I was hungry and my friends had also tried it as well. I don't expect anything major, but in a place like that where I have spent £70 on just my food and drink , you would like to think that there would be an apology and maybe some money off the meal or a free drink or just any small token. Highly disappointed in the end and would suggest you look elsewhere for somewhere nice to eat.

Came here for my wife's birthday and couldn't have chosen a better place. The serving staff were friendly, funny and couldn't have been more accommodating. The food was outstanding. Scallops were perfectly cooked and the squid had a bit of bite without being rubbery. We did the usual thing of ordering too much, but managed to squeeze in a dessert, which was excellent. Whilst the food was brilliant, what made the evening particularly special was the atmosphere created by the staff, who are amongst the best we've ever encountered. Definitely making the 1h40m trip to come back in the future.

Really looking forward to this visit and booked well in advance, paid the £20 deposit (bit steep for a table of 2) and stated it was my husband's birthday. Not that we expected any special treatment but, on arrival we could see the only table free was right by the front door basically where one of us would have been sat with coats practically on our head!! We were told that was indeed our table so we asked if there was anywhere else. It was sub zero temperature outside and the thought of being sat by the door was not a great one! We were told there was one table but it was by the toilets and kitchen door... it wasn't even laid up but...we said we'd take it compared to the "door" table. Our drinks order was taken but red wine was delivered and opened when we ordered white. The starters were good especially my mussels but the mains (duck and lamb) were very average and my husband's dish had no potatoes at all despite him ordering dauphinoise to go with it. When we did complain we were told they would take the wine from the bill which they did BUT they didn't remove my already paid deposit so we were technically no better off!! We will not return here as a couple as it seems like big groups get priority and everyone's attention whilst couples (still spending potentially well over £100) are neglected. My opinion is that the food is over priced and not worth it, the staff were lovely but several poorly trained and unknowledgeable, there are too many tables squeezed into the area and the atmosphere from our "toilet" table was non existent.

Me and my partner visited this restaurant, due to good reviews and for our stay in Barry. However as we entered we asked for a table of two, the waiter who greeted us acted as if there was no availability, even though we could see only half of the tables were occupied. Once seated we had already experienced another couple complaining about the food and arguing with staff. The food presentation appeared to be great however the quality and taste was not up to standard. When asked how our main was due to hardly touching our meals we expressed it did not taste right. We had been given a complimentary glass of wine in the meantime which was a nice gesture. However when paying I was not happy that the full amount was charged on the bill, considering me and my partner had both stated we did not enjoy or eat our meal. For near enough a £100 meal I would expect something of a good quality.

Went to Beaujolais night, set menu £65 per head. Glass of wine on arrival very disappointing. Red wine was very brown not what you would expect from a beaujolais nouveau when the wine should be fresh and ‘new’. Menu was very ‘not French’ which was a surprise when it was advertised as a beaujolais event. That said it was a nice menu and staff were very attentive and helpful. Sadly things went rather downhill from there. Starters were delicious but main courses went very wrong. My husband and I both ordered sautéed potatoes but new potatoes arrived. We sent them back but were then told that the head chef said they were sautéed. They were obvious not and we were later told by the lovely waiter that another chef said that we had been given the wrong potatoes but that the head chef had basically told him to shut up. Unfortunately the potatoes we had were not only cooked in a way we had not ordered, they had also been cooked so well in advance they had that horrible taste that boiled potatoes have when this happens. My husband had ordered steak au poivre and I have to say they were both cooked to perfection. I like a’bleu’ steak and not any chefs are able to do this but my steak was perfect. The pepper sauce was also very good and was amongst the best I have ever had. Again unfortunately, the seasonal vegetables that were included with the meal never materialised and we had to insist they were served which caused quite a delay while the rest of our food was going cold. Unfortunately the desserts were a disaster. We were asked to order them at the start of the meal. When they came to serve them we were then told they had sold out. There was nothing else that we liked so had to go without. After much deliberation we were offered a 20% reduction but that did little to compensate for the night we had been looking forward to. Another negative was that live music had been advertised.Yes it was there and was very good. But it ended so early. We booked for 7pm and admittedly were 5 minutes late. But the music ended long before we had finished our main course.

I'll keep it brief.. THE GOOD Staff were friendly Environment was clean and decor was good Food arrived quickly Bread and butter were delicious Prawns were nice Toilets were clean THE BAD Price - sone items far, far too expensive and therefore overall value for money was poor Most of food was under seasoned (my wife pointed this out who rarely ever adds salt to meals) The sangria was watered right down and barely alcoholic. We rarely drink or treat ourselves to a night out so if anyone should find this alcoholic, it would be us. It was also £23 for a jug worth four glasses, but given it was basically squash, we felt massively ripped off 😥 Pork belly was well seasoned and nicely cooked but not crispy on the edges and the 'crackling' was not crunchy Dauphinoise potato was seasoned well but not cooked from fresh so a bit dry What would have made it a 4 out of 5? Sadly none of the positives made up for receiving an almost £100 bill, but to get from 3 to 4 out of 5 rating I'd suggest 25% cheaper pricing and sangria that actually has alcohol in. Would we go back? Sadly not.

Hoping for a new addition to restaurant choice in Barry - setting and decor is lovely. Unfortunately there is no separate vegetarian menu and very little other choice - had to have a starter and dessert. Service was ok and very inexperienced staff who could all have done with ironing their white shirts., and didn’t know what what was on the specials board. Portions are tiny and not sure we would return sadly.

We have tried this venue twice. The first time was an ad-hoc visit on their opening week. The 2nd time was a few weeks later for a family lunch. I had really high hopes as the venue has been refurbished really well. Staff were friendly, although some seemed not overly knowledgeable on the menu. We really wanted to love this place, and tapas is a great favourite of ours. I would say it is not really a tapas venue. There are none of the classics like Spanish tortilla or chorizo poached in wine. The potatoes and chorizo was a bowl of potatoes with the tiniest sprinkling of finely chopped chorizo. The vegetarian options are sparse. All in all we felt everything was a bit beige and a bit deep fried. We probably wold not visit again. It would be great if the owners could find an experienced tapas chef, and then amend the menu to reflect that.

I really wanted to love this place and was excited to potentially have a good tapas restaurant in Barry. On arrival the restaurant is lovely with a nice outdoor seating area and lovely hard working waiting staff. My partner and I love tapas and went for a selection of the dishes from this menu and a bottle of red. The food took a while to arrive at around 35 minutes and we were pretty hungry by that point. The dishes looked OK, though some portions were very small for the cost. As we dug in though it became clear that the food, though edible, was in no way what we were hoping for. It was all fairly....bland. Its hard to imagine that the chef specialises in tapas, which is a real shame as it is selling itself as a tapas restaurant. When I went to the toilet inside it became obvious there were a few people in the restaurant that were not happy with either the food or the service. We were deciding whether to go here or to Bar 44 for dinner as we were really fancying some tapas and I can say that I'd you're after really tasty authentic food, go to the latter.

Husbands 50th birthday basically ruined. The food was so bad we left during the serving of our main meal - we called the manager over and told him this is the worst meal we’ve ever had. We are prepared to pay for the wine we have consumed - but not the food, then we left rather hungry. Luckily as a 50th birthday gift my husband received a hamper of 6 Pong cheeses, crackers and a bottle of finest red wine, which went down perfectly well instead.

Booked in advance for my husband’s birthday, on arrival there were multiple items missing off the menu and not a single vegetarian mains options. However, we ordered and the waiting staff were fabulous. After nearly an hours wait we received our starters. Nearly two hours in and no sign of our mains. At this point we were told that they were a chef down. Unfortunately by then the birthday meal was ruined and we were told the chef didn’t know how long the food would be. I know these things happen but I don’t think we’ll be back.

Very disappointed with the service we have received this evening. We booked a table of 11 for a joint birthday meal, and to start with everything was fine. However, things went downhill from there. Our starters arrived at 19:58 and our mains arrived at 20:51. Having booked a table at 7pm. My rare fillet steak was meant to be served with a garlic & mushroom sauce, 3 of us tried it and thought it tasted like peppercorn. We asked the waitress and she said it was definitely garlic and mushroom. I cut into my steak and it had over cooked and dried out from where it had been under the pass and lights for too long. We sent the steak back and it arrived after everyone else had finished. My partner had ordered the duck breast which she really enjoyed, however she had to ask twice for her greens to come with it, to be told by the same waitress that it doesnt come with any. My partner then asked for the menu to double check, when the waitress came back (after reading the menu), she said she doesnt believe it did come with any. My partner then opened the menu and showed her where it states that it comes with deep fried brussels sprouts. She then had to ask for a THIRD time where they were. By this time, she had finished all of her food. The toilet floor was really wet, and my mother in law (who is an amputee) did slip. Our plates were cleared and we were offered dessert menus. 15 minutes went by and not one member of staff came to take our order, when more than half of us wanted desserts and coffee. My partner quietly mentioned to the manager about how disappointed we all were. There was no apology all he did was offer us 10% discount. My partner mentioned that she is a manager in a restaurant as well to he replied "well I'm actually the owner". How condesending. When talking to him a bit more the "owner" then said to her "the thing with pubs is, all of their food is cooked frozen, whereas ours is fresh". This is an extremely offensive thing to say to another restaurant manager when they have quietly tried to speak to you. We then got our bill, to realise we had an extra bottle of wine on the bill, which took a while to be taken off. Bearing in mind, our bill with the 10% discount was £373.60. Now is this really a way to treat customers? We weren't the only customers to complain tonight. Please take some advice Mr owner when I say when a customer has a complaint don't reply with sarcastic and degrading comments when your own restaurant isn't perfect, on a whole the restaurant vibe and food was excellent, however, extremely rude owner.

Went to the Cosy Tapas and Grill on Friday for lunch with my Daughter and as the weather was gorgeous we were able to sit outside and benefit from some September sunshine. I was unable to fault the food or atmosphere and staff were attentive and helpful when it came to choosing from the menu... I would highly recommend and will be returning with friends in October.

Sadly, not my idea of Tapas, poor quality Calamari (this was chewy 4 little pieces, chicken wings stewed, patatas were bland/anemiac overpriced for what you get. The best bit was the Belly pork. Lovely young staff & attentive, good atmosphere. If you're going to do Tapas, you need to just do Tapas. I cant comment on grill menu. Hopefully you'll have a better experience & food.

A lovely new stylish and smart restaurant for Barry. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent but I was disappointed that there were no vegetarian or vegan choices on the "mains menu", and just one on the "specials board". I had to choose from the tapas menu which is limited for vegetarians and vegans, however, it was excellent.

I just visited this restaurant and had a very mixed experience. I started with two dishes from the starter menu, and I must say they were absolutely lovely—both were well-prepared and thoroughly enjoyable. The service throughout the evening was also commendable. The staff, especially our waiter, was polite and attentive, which made the initial part of the meal quite pleasant. However, the experience took a sharp downturn when my main course arrived—a penne carbonara. When it was served, I was genuinely shocked at the portion size. It looked like no more than four spoonfuls of pasta with a tiny amount of ham and no sign of cheese or cream, as you’d expect in a proper carbonara. I even asked the waiter if this was really the full portion, to which he kindly apologized. Upon taking my first bite, I realized the pasta was severely undercooked—practically raw. I politely asked the waiter to return it to the kitchen and requested a fresh plate with properly cooked pasta, a more generous amount of ham, and some cheese to make it look more presentable. Surprisingly, the chef came out personally to ask for clarification on what I meant by "undercooked" pasta and my other requests. I explained the situation to her, hoping for an improvement. Ten minutes later, the same dish was brought back, but unfortunately, it was worse than before. It was clear the chef had simply refried the entire dish. The pasta was now overcooked and rubbery, and the ham was unpleasantly refried. Still no cheese or cream. After just two bites, I couldn't continue and decided to politely ask for the bill. It’s unfortunate to say this was the worst pasta I’ve ever had, especially at a restaurant that claims to serve Italian cuisine. Despite the dreadful main course, I want to highlight that the service from the floor and bar staff was excellent. The waiter apologized numerous times and even offered to charge only half the price of the pasta, which I appreciated and accepted. I also left a tip, as the poor food quality was certainly not the fault of the staff. I will not be returning for food at this establishment ever again. They urgently need a more competent chef and better portion sizes to match the prices they’re charging.

So, I booked a table online earlier in the day, turned up to be told that they couldn't find my booking because he had done all the online bookings the night before so hadn't updated the list, but he could "squeeze us in". Just 2 of us. By the time we left, I counted 31 empty seats so less than half full. Given menus and told to order at the bar and cutlery was "over there" if we wanted any! Being sat next to the bar, I ordered some drinks while deciding which steak to have, not a hard decision seeing as there's a choice of sirloin or ribeye.... Went with the sirloin. Asked me to pay when I was at the bar which I thought very unusual for a restaurant. Went to the table to get our knives/forks, surely the least they can do is set a table??? Took in the surroundings while waiting for the food, pink flowers all over the feature wall which looked out of place, terrible music which sounded even worse playing though what ever device they were using behind the bar. Food didn't take long to come and wasn't bad to be fair, alough it was served on a cold plate. Sauce didn't resemble any peppercorn sauce I'd ever had before and reminded me of baby puke. Ate and left without any sort of service such as being asked if the food was ok. Don't think I'll be returning
