Lived in gainsborough 16 month and didn't know about this lovely fish shop Absolutely bang on fish cod great tasting chips and scraps positive Staff lovely and welcoming. Cant understand they were only spotted by me on Facebook Tried tonight it was scrumptious It is an heart to cook fish and chips properly that's why so many fail To the taste buds. Will definitely make this my new restraunt For quality food A lot of restraunts have a problem even cooking food got nice places but food is crappie. Visited Saturday for the first time in a long time after being recommended by a colleague Definitely won’t be leaving it long till our next visit. The staff we’re friendly and we all really enjoyed our meals. I had haddock and Chips I can honestly say it’s nicest fish and chips I’ve ever had. The offer meals have a fair bit of choice and good value to. Our son was made up with a large sausage in his kids meal. Would definitely recommend this little gem

Great chip shop, ran very very well. Went in and everything ready, the price was fantastic. Chip size not to my taste, however they're done well and some prefer a chunkier chip. Gravey was fantastic also. Fish was beautifully cooked and the battered sausage was perfect lovely light coat of batter breaks away.

Wayyyyy too many chips on our regular, but I guess you can't really complain about that. Cooked fresh and tasted great 👍

After moving to Gainsborough, in Sept’ 18 we started using this chip shop from then on recommendation from our Son. We always ask for a large cod , either fish cake or sausage with regular portion chips. The fish is huge on large & the batter is lovely & crispy . The staff are friendly, helpful & very chatty. At Xmas ‘18 due to bad weather Cox’s was closed so, tried another chippy on high st,& ended up waiting over 1/2 hr just for our order due to a customer placing s very large order & when we got it home it wasn’t very good , just not in the same class as Cox’s . There opening time for tea time is 4:00 till 7:30 & they get very busy & if you want large fish you must order as you go in . Enjoy 😋😋😋😋

Always friendly and polite staff who can 'batter' through a queue so you never have to wait long to be served or get your food. It's also very good food with no complaints to be made Highly recommended

Good prices for their very basic menu, not bad food, they offer scraps which is always a positive, but it is just sooooo greasy, so much so that I could of drank it alone & been full up before eating anything, but the dish inside of the grease was brilliant, if only the chips were as good as Adams bay. It was just VERY AVERAGE INDEED! #average #notsatisfied #goodcustomerservice

Went to Cox's yesterday, was turned away at half 7 despite the opening times advertised as 8. Have been going to Cox's for a few years, they can be good, but they're inconsistent, won't try them again after been sent away yesterday.

After I had my shopping at M & S today, I said to my husband, "I fancy fish and chips". Therefore, when I finished work tonight, I head to Cox Traditional Fish and Chips shop in Gainsborough, Lincs. I've only been to this shop 3 times. The first time I went, I went with a neighbour who introduced me to it and did the ordering for me. The second time I went, I was served by the owner and the service was not bad and the food was OK so I thought I would go back. Today, I had a completely different experience. The chips I got was in VERY poor quality. Two thirds of it were residue, something that I won't even want to put on my plate let alone serve to anybody. The staff who is serving as well as receiving payments from customers is using her bare hands holding the food. I found this very unhygienic. I'm glad she did not do that to my own food otherwise I could have said something. I ordered two fish with chips. When I asked for a smaller portion for my other chips, she prawned as if she was not happy doing it then slammed my chips on the counter after finished wrapping it. The staff talked very abrupt and when I responded to the way she talked to me, after I've gone, I over heard her saying to other customers that I was rude which means she recognised how to behave rude but does not matter if she does it. When I went home after 5mins journey from the shop, my husband unwrapped the fish and chips whilst they were still hot. I was VERY disappointed to see the state of the fish that were saggy and even more disappointed seeing the chips that look like cramps. I was very hungry so I had no choice but to eat it buy boy, I wish I did not, because it only spoiled my appetite with the feeling that I was cheated and treated horribly by the staff. What I called my treat turned to be a nightmare! Next time, I don't mind travelling 20 miles to Lincoln to get a decent fish and chips and good customer service but I would NEVER go back to this shop again. Also, as a new customer, staff expect you to know their culture asking you the question, "what would you like putting in?" rather than asking you, what would you like to order tonight.

Still as good as ever since my last review and Dave has had his Fish Shop refurbished recently which looks great .Thought i'd try a large cod this time as i was quite peckish , by heck it was good with it's tasty crispy batter and big chunky white cod , The chips were very tasty too , all cooked to perfection .I'll be having some more soon .You should try some too .Thanks a Lot Dave.

A last minute decision for tea and what a good decision it was as well.Fish and chips from here is a real treat and full of mouth watering goodness.If you love fish and chips you have to give this place a go as I can assure you you will not be disappointed.Service with a smile makes you happy from the minute you walk in the shop, hows that for confidence!.

This place is bad! If you want guts ache then this is the place to go. The chips are soggy and drowned in dirty oil and the fish was undercooked and slimey. Service was average but the staff need to smile more

Cox's have been going for years and they do a great fish & chips. People might think they are a little costly but I always think pay the extra when its worth it and Cox's are.They have meal deals what are great for family or just for kids. You ask for cod and you get cod .

We always go to cox's and choose that over any other chip shop in gains. However, we went yesterday and it was disgusting. There was that much grease coming off the food that by the time we drove home (5 mins) the grease had saturated the paper the fish and chips were wrapped in and picking the packets up they just disintegrated. Couldn't get them out the bag. They were just dripping in grease. Ended up having to use a spoon to get them out. Think we will be finding a new fish and chip shop in future. Had to throw them in the end. They were disgusting.

Thought I would try after reading reviews, having visited Burton rd chippy Lincoln ,Elite Lincoln and Sleaford ,Pappas Gainsborough who all claim to be the best".The Fish is so fresh and the Chips to die for and the cost top value for money, they did not think just because you had entered there shop they had won the Lottery.Keep up the good work.

Used to use Johnson's a lot (and reviewed them highly) but lately the quality of the fish there is a bit hit or miss!Cox's however is consistently good. The large cod is superb and cooked fresh to order and the chips delicious too.Well worth a visit!

As a farming family, a trip to the chippy is never a common thing, but whenever we get the chance we always go here. The quality of food - be it a spam fritter, sausage or fish is always top notch. We've been coming to this chippy for years and its always guaranteed good grub. Don't ever change! We love it!

Our local chippy - Cox's is without a doubt the best in town, chips are perfect, fishcakes are to die for and service with a smile, wouldn't go anywhere else in town! Only need one portion of chips between two as they are very generous!

I only go to Cox's chippy because the fish and chips aren't just the best i have tasted they are consistent every time i go, i know that what im getting is value for money and i am never disappointed. I haven't found a fish shop yet that delivers taste, quality and price, like Cox's, thats why i rate them 10 out of 10!

Our favourite chippy was closed for a week, so we thought that as this one was at number 1 in Gainsborough, and our usual one was at number 2, we would be able to expect at least the same quality, if not better. Sadly not so. While the chips were excellent, the fish was overcooked and dry, while the batter was soggy and very greasy. We are used to snow white, juicy, flaky fish encased in explosively crunchy batter and this wasn't even close. Sorry Cox's, not for us.

We visited ‘Cox's Traditional Fish And Chips’ after a recommendation and were not disappointed. You order the food when you go in and everything is freshly cooked. We both had fish, chips and peas. They were served in a tray. They were excellent fish and chips, just a shame they don’t have a restaurant and we have to eat them in the car as we don’t live in Gainsborough.
